A/N: I do not own Kim Possible, Danny Phantom, or Gatsby

She glanced for a second back down at her watch, and saw she still had ten minutes to get to class. When she looked back up to continue her race, she noticed something taped to the door that grabbed her attention.

A sheet of white copy paper, bonded to the glass door with invisible tape, with a picture of a cartoon soccer ball printed on the front. She ripped it off the door, and looked at it more closely. It read:

Interested in Girls' Soccer? Come to the gym to try out this Thursday after school!

Kim smiled. It would appear her week of indecisiveness were about to come to an end. She would have to make up her mind by Thursday on whether she would try to be part of the soccer team or not.

She stuck the flyer back on to the glass door, and ran inside, trying to have time to get to her locker before the bell rings.

She dodged between students, who seemed to hardly notice that she was trying to get by, and finally gave up with the ground level, not having the time or patience to say any more "excuse me" s or "pardons me" s, and slung her small back pack over her shoulder. Taking one giant leap, she jumped atop the lockers, and hopped back and forth between the two sides of the hallway, remaining above the crowd.

She finally noticed her locker on the distance and did a finale-like somersault, landing smoothly in front of her locker. Thank you, cheerleading, she thought to herself, and reached into her locker to remove her English book, The Great Gatsby.

She broke out into yet another sprint, racing to get to English. When she finally made it to the door, the first thing she noticed was the desks were oddly arranged in pods, about 4 per group.

"Ms. Wate," she heard from the front of the room, and turned to the speaker.

"Please find your seat," Ms. Greene smiled, and Kim turned to look around at the tables. Some read Star, one read Qwan, and it suddenly dawned on Kim that it was assigned seating within the pods. She looked around at every pod, and finally came across the one that read Kim Wate.

She sat down, and, being the first one at her group, felt a curiosity towards her partners. Sitting across from her was a boy named Mikey, and next to him was someone named Valerie. Kim paused. That name sure sounded familiar. Sitting beside Kim was none other than a Danny Fenton. She let out a sigh of relief. At least her only friend in the class would be beside her. Maybe the two new students would be nice, too.

She twiddled her thumbs for a while before looking towards the doorway, and seeing a small, pale and freckled boy with glasses that seemed to consume his face walk towards her. He sat down at the desk opposite her, so Kim glanced at the name tag. Mikey, she reread. She turned her large green eyes towards the young boy sitting opposite her, and smiled. "Hi there. I'm not sure we've met. I'm Kim."

The boy pushed his glasses further up his nose, causing Kim to do the same to her fake ones. "Mikey," his nasal voice answered. She was about to ask the boy something when "Valerie" came to sit down. The instant Kim took in her appearance, she recognized her from the other day at lunch. So she was part of the A-list kids, and probably thought Kim was dirt. Of course, she seemed to be the most genuine out of them all. Maybe she'd be alright, too.

She waited and waited for Danny to come, but finally the bell rang, and he turned out to be a no show. Kim only guessed that he wasn't feeling well still, and turned her attention towards Ms. Greene, who looked ready to give them her assignment.

"To continue your study of American Literature, we will read Gatsby. Now, you all read the first five chapters last night, correct?" she waited for a response, which she received a few muffled yeses and head nods. "Perfect. So today, you will be summarizing at least one of the chapters while one person in your group will write everything down." She assigned everyone one chapter, and told them to write up a one-paragraph summary of the events that took place. Kim's group got Chapter 4.

"So who wants to be the scribe?" she asked the table. Valerie looked at the two, and sighed, "I'll do it." Kim nodded, and smiled, flipping through her book to the fourth chapter.

"Okay, so the first thing that happens is Nick writes a list of all the people who go to Gatsby's parties. He names people like Chester Beckers, Clarence Endive, Cecil Roebuck, and many more," she said as Valerie wrote it down.

"Then says that at 9 o-clock one July morning, Gatsby came to his house, and told him they would have lunch together that day. Nick then describes Gatsby's car, saying 'it was a rich cream color, bright with nickel, swollen here and there in its monstrous length with triumphant hat-boxes and supper-boxes and tool-boxes, and terraced…' on second thought, do you just to copy that out of the book? You know, for textual evidence?" Kim asked the young black girl.

Valerie shrugged, her raspy voice coming to light, saying, "Yea that sounds good." Kim handed her the book as she wrote down the quote.

Mikey then spoke up, too. "Then Gatsby asks Nick what his opinion of him is. He doesn't get the chance to answer before Gatsby interrupts, and starts to begin talking about his past."

Kim, noticing where Mikey was, continued, "Yes, he says that he was from a wealthy family in the Midwest and that he was educated at Oxford. Only Nick believes he is lying about being educated there as he said it a little too quickly. He then describes how he fought in the first World War. After that, he tells Nick that he will join him and Jordon Baker for tea."

Valerie finished writing that, and opened her mouth to speak, but all attention was suddenly drawn to the front of the room where a panting Danny Fenton suddenly ran through the door.

"Late as usual," Kim thought she heard Valerie snicker under her breath.

Danny tried to keep his panting to a minimum, and hoped that to the rest of the class it looked like he was out of breath from running to school, not from fighting Technus, who finally turned up on an electric billboard early that morning. And when Danny said early, he meant very early. His ghost sense was set off at 4:00, which was only four hours ago, but seemed like four years.

"Mr. Fenton," Ms. Greene's attitude turned stern as she greeted the young boy. "And to think you've just recently been keeping your tardies in check. Back so soon to your old ways?" Danny decided best not to answer, knowing the only he could say was a snide, sarcastic comment that would only get him in more trouble.

"Please find your seat," Ms. Greene instructed before turning back to her desk work. Kim motioned for him to sit next to her, which was coincidentally his seat. Danny smiled at Kim, and began walking towards her.

Soon he felt a slight kick at his ankle, and suddenly found his face two inches from the ground. Thankfully he'd caught himself with his arms, but he was still angry that someone tried to trip him. He turned towards the nearest table – who happened to have all the A-list stars sitting at it, with Dash laughing the most. He got up quickly, and glared fervor green eyes at the table, who had their own eyes squeezed tightly shut with laughter and tears.

"Mr. Fenton!" he heard his name from the front of the room. "I think you've disturbed this class enough already." Danny rolled his eyes. Even when he was unjustly tripped, it was his fault. Figures, he sighed.

"Sorry Ms. Greene, it won't happen again," he said through gritted teeth, and finally found his way to his group. He sat down roughly, throwing himself into his chair, and groaning in exhaustion and annoyance.

"Are you okay?" Kim whispered.

"Huh?" Danny asked, not really paying attention.

"You just seem… tired," she shrugged, and Danny scowled.

"I'm fine," he snapped, and took out his book.

Kim was caught off guard by the tone and offended, but nonetheless told him, "Well, we're writing a summary for Chapter Four, if you wanna open your book." He sighed, and stayed silent for the rest of class, too tired and irritated to say a word about the book.

Kim raced to the lunch table in the back, the one that she and her friends sat at every day. She sat right next to Sam, as usual, and looked at the two people already occupying the table. Seeing a certain boy was missing, Kim asked the two friends, "Have you guys seen Danny, today?"

Sam and Tucker exchanged a weird glance, then went on to answer Kim's question.

"I saw him earlier this morning." Tucker said.

"I had Math with him two periods ago. Why do you ask?"

"Well he came in late for English, and he seemed really… moody? That's not the right word, but it was like he was tired and out of it, and just grumpy. Does he usually do this? I asked him if he was okay, and he snapped at me. Do you think he's okay?"

Another awkward glance was shared between the two, and Kim couldn't help but get suspicious. Now she knew what needed to be done. She squeezed her eyes shut, and when they reopened, they were stamped with the most worried expression ever seen on a human face.

Sam and Tucker watch Kim's face morph from confused to scared-sad-and-worried-all-at-the-same-time. Her already rather big green eyes seemed to bug out of their sockets, and even appeared to get teary. The plush and pink lips were turned upside down in a sort of pout. Instantly, Sam and Tucker softened their expressions in their own sadness at seeing the defeated face, and Tucker opened his mouth, "Sometimes he gets like that. Call it a coping mechanism, but it's just something that happens. Especially if he doesn't get a good rest the night before. Don't worry too much about him. I mean, he's in the court yard right now, but he's doing fine."

"He's in the courtyard?!" Kim shouted, and immediately flew out of her chair – or at least seemed to fly when she jumped five feet from her seated position. "I'll catch you guys later, okay?" she waved, and raced out of the cafeteria, determined to make sure Danny really was okay.

She found him lying on the grass underneath the tree, and made his way over to him.

"Hey," he heard a small voice call from seemingly nearby. He opened his eyes at once, and sat bolt upright when he saw the delicate ginger smiling at him.

"Can I sit?" she asked him, and Danny nodded, knowing he'd been very rude to her not four fours ago.

As soon as she sat right next to Danny, a honey-sweet smell began to fill his nostrils and tickle his nose. God, it smelled so good. It seemed to waft over to him; the sweet aroma almost being too much to bear.

"Listen, Danny, I'm gonna ask again. Are you okay?" he heard her voice come to light. He hated when people cared enough about him to worry. It just made him so angry at the world. He was about to snap at her again, but one quick glance at her delicate features, and his own face immediately softened.

"I'm fine," he lied to her. "I didn't get very much sleep last night is all," he added. Now it wasn't a complete lie. Only one that left out the part about ghost fighting from 4 to 7.

"So in other words, you don't want to talk about it," she laughed, obviously seeing through his walls. He laughed with her, and collapsed against the ground, staring up into the tree they were situated under.

"It's more like I don't want you to worry," he mumbled to her. He wasn't really sure why he said it. He didn't even admit that kind of thing to Sam and Tucker, even though he was sure they knew that about him. He really did hate when people worried about him, but he couldn't tell himself why he had just told Kim that. Strangely, however, it seemed so natural to admit that kind of thing that he almost didn't care. It was just her reaction he was scared of.

Thankfully, however, the bell rang, and Danny noticed Kim stand up. Phew, he sighed to himself, saved by the bell. Danny stood up himself, and locked eyes with Kim. In one last phrase, she told him, assuredly, "Sometimes people like worrying."

Danny stared after her as she raced back to the school.

A/N: Sorry this one took a while to get out. I had some major writers block with it, and didn't even know where to begin writing it.

I know that it's short and not very much occurred in it, but I really want to hear about how you think it came out, so please review :)

Every review makes me sit down an right a little more ;D
