A/N: In honor of Valentine's Day...
Kim sighed. Her heart had long since slowed, and her suit had already retreated to underneath her clothes. She'd been sitting there now for almost an hour. She wasn't sure what stuff Phantom had inside that ice – which had to be more than frozen water – but no matter which laser or punch she threw at it, the most the ice ever did was drip a few drops, agonizingly slow. She positioned her feet on the base of the stump, and pushed against the tree, trying to break free. For the tenth time, the ice hadn't so much as cracked. It was like super ice or something. She pulled out her kimmunicator and looked at the time.
4:57 it read, showing Kim what she already knew. Her time frame was running out, and she knew he had to break free with the next 2 hours in order for her not to miss the basketball game where Danny would be.
Danny. And Sam. And Tucker.
All three of them would be there, whereas Kim would rather just stop her thinking at that first name.
Danny, she breathed, loving how the name came off her lips. She closed her eyes, and pictured what the young boy would look like tonight.
There was no doubt his unruly black hair would be all over the place, giving him that adorable look of just waking up – no matter the time of day. A few wispy strands would fall into his eyes. His gentle, affectionate, baby blue eyes that she could lose herself forever in. He'd obviously be wearing that thin shirt of his, which gave off the appearance of a flabby and thin Danny underneath. But now Kim was all the wiser. She had witnessed first-hand the delicate grooves that highlighted his ever-soft chest. She even felt the feeling of his separated and protruding peck muscles against her sensitive cheek.
She sighed in happiness, but abruptly stopped herself.
What was that? she questioned. She had just spent the past five minutes fantasizing about Danny Fenton. DANNY FENTON of all people! Danny – her young friend who had blindly accepted and trusted her against all odds. She couldn't allow herself to get sidetracked from her important mission with foolish crushes. She had a ghost to take down. Romantic interests would just have to wait until she got back home to Middleton, and was allowed to completely surround herself in the simple and easy tasks of saving the world that usually didn't take Kim long; so short, in fact, she was able to make it home for dinner almost every night. Gosh, how she missed those days.
Now she was stuck with an annoying pest of a ghost boy that she couldn't squander and an attractive boy she couldn't let herself have. For not the first time in her life, Kim felt like a twist on a cliché teenager, and she desperately wanted her life to be normal and boring.
But when you live by the motto "I can do anything" and you had a helplessly high moral code, you could only do so much with "boring".
…
Danny had finally sacked his second ghost that night. He figured that in life, the ghost must've done track or something because he was faster than even Danny was. It took the completion of the fifth hour just to ensnare him. Finally, that is what he managed to do, and the speedy ghost was locked away in the snug thermos.
He had just closed the cap when yet another breath of cold air made its way past his lips, and left behind a tingling at the nape of his neck. He quickly turned around, and stifled a forced smile when he saw what ghost had set off his warning.
Cujo. The adorable little fellow had made his way towards Danny, in his greatly smaller, puppy state, and wagged its tail violently as he panted for his ghost friend. Danny petted the ghost dog, and smiled, happy that this wasn't going to be a fighting scene. He just had to help the poor thing back to the ghost zone. Which, now that Danny was thinking about it, looked easily doable.
He reached out to circle the dog with his arms, when the green head of the dog whipped to the right where an innocent, helpless cat pawed at a trash can, wanting the contents that it appeared to hold.
Danny wasn't quick enough in getting Cujo for when his eyes returned to the puppy, he was now in his more ferocious, vast state that would terrify Danny if he knew that he was really harmless. Unfortunately, this fact was not spread around the city when a gigantic, ghost canine ran down the streets, leaving a chain of ruckus and distress in its fleet.
The cat stupidly sped off, which made Cujo do the same. "Wait!" Danny called, but it was too late. He was off into the night air, leaving Danny the only one responsible for controlling his storm.
He kicked off the ground, and immediately sped off into the night, albeit slower than he would've liked because he was still tired from fighting the ghost runner. Nonetheless, there ain't no rest for a vigilante-ghost boy, so he had to push through his exhaustion, and follow the destructive ghost.
He was close on his tail, too. Quite literally, in fact. If his arms were just a bit longer, he'd be able to snag the end of its tail. Though this, Danny knew, would only further upset the dog, so he decided against doing that. Instead, he flew up onto the high back of the canine and tried to speak into his ear.
"Cujo," he began screaming but was not able to say another word because he was knocked to the ground with a heavy object. It hit his head pretty hard, and he fell even harder to the ground. Surely the white girl wouldn't have been able to break free yet, so who was it? Who had just attacked him? Vlad? Skulker?
He opened his eyes from the ground and noticed Cujo stopped running when he notice Danny hurt. He saw a quick flash of red, and another blindingly painful hit to his spine.
When he focused his eyes better and through the pain, he was able to notice a certain girl he hadn't seen in at least a month.
The Red Huntress.
Or, as Danny preferred, his ex-girlfriend, Valerie.
"Bet you thought you'd seen the last of me," she assumed, and began approaching his weakened state. Danny was able to get up, and he faced his attacker head on.
"Well I'm back. And I think today's my lucky day. I don't only get you, but I get your crummy ghost bitch, too."
Danny didn't feel like dealing with the girl. He inhaled sharply, and shouted at the top of his lungs, "GO AWAY–AY–AY–AY–AY–AY–AY–AYYY!"
His shout had inflicted his ghostly wail unwillingly, but once it was released, Danny didn't stop it from coming. He watched through half-lidded eyes as the red girl was flung backward.
Once she was out of sight, he turned himself – along with his ghost companion at his side – intangible and flew the both of them back to his house to put the gentle, but deadly, dog back into the ghost zone. He knew she'd be back, and he didn't want to wait around for that to happen.
…
Valerie was flying through the sky. She sailed passed buildings and homes she'd rather not land on. She clapped her feet together to get the board at her feet to appear. It did come out at the base of her feet, but she wasn't able to flip around in time, and she hit the ground. Hard. She immediately sat up, and cursed the damned ghost boy who loved torturing her. She scratched her head.
She hadn't realized how far she had flown through the air, but she realized she'd somehow landed in the park. She stood up, and allowed the black screen of her red helmet to emerge back into the red metal, so she could see better. Amity Park's famous park. She remembered this place as where she broke Danny Fenton's heart. Poor kid.
A muffled noise interrupted her nostalgic thoughts, and she turned to find the source of the whimper. There against a lofty tree was a girl with her right arm encased in ice. Valerie paused. She immediately recognized the girl as Kimberly Wate, the ginger who was friends with Danny Fenton and his trio. Her large green eyes were full of shock and fear; this caused Valerie to remember she no longer had her face blocked, and it was currently in full view to her fellow classmate.
Shit. There goes secret identity. She began to walk over to her. Maybe they could agree on keeping it between them? The last thing she needed was Danny Phantom knowing she was just a high school student. How embarrassing! …and dangerous…
As soon as Valerie began walking towards her, she noticed Kim's eyes grow larger with more fear. She could only assume it was because she was an intimidating person. Have you seen her? She looked so badass inside in her Red Huntress uniform.
When she was at a closer distance, Valerie now saw that the girl's arm was literally inside the tree and it was encased in ice. This had to be Phantom's doing. He was the only ghost in Amity Park who had that ability.
"Don't move," Valerie instructed. "I don't wanna miss." She ended the sentence in a smirk, still loving the fact that people were scared of her, and fired a hot laser at the ice. It instantly melted around Kim's bare arm, and she was able to escape her prison at last. She yanked her arm free, and smiled at the black girl.
"Thank you so much, but –"
"Uh uh. No questions asked," Valerie said firmly.
"But–"
"No. Questions. Asked." She annunciated every word. "Just don't tell anyone okay. And I won't let word get out that Danny Phantom attacked you."
Kim shrugged, impartially, "I don't care if people at school know that I was attacked." In any scenario, she could just pull the sympathy card. It didn't sound too bad.
"Don't you?" Valerie asked, as if testing her. "This entire dumbass city is fooled by Phantom's persona. They think he's a hero, a true vigilante trying to help save the world. But they're wrong. He's just helping himself – making sure no other ghosts can hurt us so he can have his final act of revenge for himself. There are four people in this town that are smart enough to see through it: the Fentons', the mayor, and myself. The rest of them are just ticking time bombs."
"I don't understand…" Kim tried. She'd always thought that the entire city knew Phantom's true colors.
"No, I guess you wouldn't. You're too new, too fresh. He hasn't tainted your mind yet. Give it time; you'll be just as ignorant as the rest of them."
After that, Valerie jumped high into the air, clapped her feet together, making a shield appear at the bottom of her feet. She flew away from the park, leaving a bewildered Kim Possible.
What had she meant?
Immediately, she took out her kimmunicator with her no-longer trapped arm, and pressed the large green button. A small boy's face instantly appeared.
"Hey Kim, what's up?" Wade asked, sipping a to-go cup of coke.
"I just got a lead from another ghost hunter I think… Can you get me any information on what the public thinks of this ghost boy? Newspaper articles, television reports, anything at all helps."
"No problem. I'll get back to you by the end of the day," Wade promised, taking another slurp of coke.
"Please and thank you," she smiled in a singsong voice, and clicked off, stashing her device back into her pocket.
…
Danny glanced at his phone.
6:58
He'd been waiting outside of the gym for 5 minutes now, waiting for Kim to arrive. Sam and Tucker had unfortunately ditched, and he certainly didn't want to walk into the gym alone. After he told them he'd seen the White Girl again, they urged Danny to stay behind, and do research on her. But being the obstinate ghost boy that he is, Danny refused, and told them he was not going to ditch Kim. She seemed so excited about it after all, so he couldn't do that to her. He wouldn't do that to her. He just couldn't hurt her.
Finally, out of the corner of his eye, Danny saw a whoosh of ginger hair, and he saw Kim sprinting towards him. She looked ecstatic, and Danny realized at that point that he'd made the correct decision when coming to the game. Of course, he didn't know the rules of basketball, but if it made Kim happy, he'd have to suffer through.
"Hey, you waited for me. That's so sweet of you," she smiled at him. Did she not know what that smile did to him?!
"Not a problem. Sam and Tucker couldn't make it anyway, so I didn't want to sit by myself. I figured I would wait out here," he shrugged, trying to make sure she knew it wasn't from the better of his heart, and that the reason was actually kind of selfish. It would appear Kim didn't take it like that. Her already large eyes seemed to protrude from their respective sockets, and she asked him, "Wait, Sam and Tucker aren't coming?"
Danny shook his head no.
"Oh… too bad…" Kim trailed off. Danny opened his mouth, but she hadn't noticed, and went on. "Say, do you know the basic rules of basketball. Because I'm a bit iffy. Can you remind me?"
Danny stopped. "Well, I – uh – I don't really… uh… I'm not very –" he stammered, searching for the right words to say.
"Hey, it's okay. That makes two of us," Kim flashed him a reassuring smile, and suddenly looked down.
This was Danny's chance, and he knew he couldn't blow it with his frequent stutter. Get yourself together, Fenton! It's now or never.
"You know, we could go to the basketball game and be a group of two people, neither of which knows much about the game, or we could go somewhere else. Get some dinner. Ice cream. Maybe a movie. What do you say? Raincheck on the game?" he gave her a crooked smile, like he was trying to flatter her. The sad part? It completely worked.
"Actually, yes, I'd like that a lot. You're sure Sam and Tucker can't join us. I don't… well, I don't wanna exclude them or anything," Kim smiled, too.
Danny shrugged. "They had a lot of stuff to do. I'm sure it's not a problem."
Kim nodded her understanding, and looked up to meet his gaze. "In that case, what do you wanna do?"
"Wanna start with a quick bite to eat? Say, Nasty Burger?" Danny offered.
Kim couldn't have thought of anything better. Perfectly casual and not at all like date. Which this was not, just by the way. It seemed almost too good for the occasion actually. There couldn't really be a place more un-romantic.
The walk was brisk in the piercing air, and Kim had to stop herself from walking closer to Danny, just trying to snatch some of his insanely warm body heat. Instead she hugged herself around the waist, trying to contain all her body heat into her center. It worked well enough through her thin jacket, and they were soon at the burger joint.
Danny opened the door, but let her go first, and they stepped inside. He made his way to the counter with Kim following, and placed his order of a double hamburger. Kim just got a regular cheeseburger. They decided, in an effort to save money on their stingy allowances, to share a large coke and large fries.
Danny carried his respective meal and Kim hers on a tray. He let her pick the table, which she did willingly, right next to the window with a pretty view of the cold night.
As soon as they were both situated, Danny smiled, "I feel like I don't know anything about your life before this year. Tell me about it," he demanded sweetly. Kim shrugged, not even sure where to begin. "Well, you already knew I was a cheerleader," she laughed, and Danny nodded, acknowledging the memory.
"I had two best friends, Ron and Monique," she paused, trying to think of what else there was to say besides "I saved the world every night".
"Ooh, I had an 'arch-rival', Bonnie. She was constantly trying to take my spot as captain of the cheerleading squad, and just always challenging me with everything I've done, you know, EVER. Gosh, she was a riot," Kim rolled her eyes at old memories.
"Well tell me more about your friends. How did you meet them?" Danny asked. Kim was surprised by how intrigued he seemed to be.
"I met Ron first, back in preschool. Some kids were picking on him, and I took a liking to him after fighting the bullies off for him. He's always been a little… weird… but that makes him Ron, I guess," she smiled, reminiscent of her old friend.
"And the other one. Monique, right?" he gave her the license to keep going as he bit into his double burger.
"Yes, Monique. I met her back in freshman year when I saw her working at this adorable little store that I would go to every day. She was really… cool, to be honest. She always knew the latest trends, and was up to date on all the new gossip. After talking with her, you felt like you knew so much more than anyone around you because you'd learn things about so-and-so proposing to so-and-so, and this girl bitching about that one. Just crazy celeb-stuff," she smiled while thinking of her old friend.
Kim finally took a break from talking, and began eating her sandwich. She'd taken two bites when Danny started up the conversation again.
"And what about pastimes? What did you guys do together?"
Kim was slightly caught off guard, but didn't want him to realize that. Instead, she tried to answer as best as she could with a slightly stretched truth. "Well I hung out with Ron every night. We'd do homework together then sometimes drive around for a while, just observing the sites, and go home. Monique, we just hung out at school or her store and chat."
"So you were closer with Ron?"
Kim shrugged, "I guess I just knew him longer. But they're both so great. They really complemented each other and balanced out. One's crazy and random while the other is cool and collected. It's nice to have those two types of people around at the same time."
"I know exactly what you mean," Danny chuckled, and finished his burger and a few fries, taking a big gulp of coke.
"Okay I just have one more question," Danny promised. "Boyfriends?"
Kim felt her face fluster red, and tried to maintain her cool. "Haha, well… I had a huge crush on this boy guy, Josh Mankey. God, he was so cool! At least I thought so when I was a freshman. We went on one 'date', and I swore it was the last. He could talk about absolutely nothing but himself. So not attractive."
"So you and this Ron-guy?"
"Psh – please. Ron? It was a strictly platonic relationship." Except for those moodulators, but there was no sense in bringing that up.
Kim finished her burger at this point, and they both stared at each other, having both finished their respective portions. Finally, Kim broke the silence.
"Are you ready? It's only 15 till 8. We could still catch a movie or something," she offered. Danny immediately stood up, and smiled. "Yea, let's go."
They threw away their food, and headed to the cinema.
…
Danny had always had bad memories about this place since those murderous-ghosts came to life from the movie. But Kim really wanted to see The Monuments Men and Danny thought it looked neat, too. As long as the characters stayed inside the movie, and Desiree out of the way.
After a few explosions, a bit of drama, and a whole lot of shooting, the credits started to fly up the screen. Danny let out his held-in breath, and turned to Kim. "That was pretty good," he told her. She nodded, and Danny couldn't help but feel cool when she agreed. "It was. The whole Nazi-Germany subtheme? It kept me on my toes."
Danny smiled at the hilarious way she put the movie. He thought the plot was the Germans blowing up centuries of culture, but he had no doubt his beautiful friend in front of him was right. "What time is it?" Kim asked, withdrawing Danny from his thoughts. He turned on his phone, and looked back to her. "9:30. Does your aunt need you home?"
Kim had to catch herself before asking, "My aunt?" but thankfully she didn't slip up.
"No, she'll be find. I just have to be home by 10:30," she lied. She just didn't want him thinking her 'aunt' was out of it… or nonexistent.
"Wanna get some ice cream? There's a great parlor not far from your place," he offered.
Kim just shrugged her shoulders. Ice cream sounded fine. And it sure made Danny seem really excited.
He opened the door for her when they entered, and she smiled, thanking him for being so polite. It'd been a long time since Kim had gone out with only a boy… she didn't exactly count Ron as a "boy". Not to offend him or anything, but there was absolutely no sexual tension between the two. She couldn't very well say the same for Danny…
She ordered a green pistachio flavor, and Danny stuck with his traditional vanilla. They got a cute white metal table right by the window and they sat overlooking the night street. Everything was so calm and peaceful out there. So unlike whatever Kim was feeling right now. But, alas, she buried those feelings deep down, and waited until she could get home to sort her emotions out.
They talked about minor things for a bit, not too sure what to say. The movie also came up, but both of the teens found more comfort staring out the window.
Finally, Kim had finished her cup of light green ice cream, and Danny his cone, and he offered to walk her home. It was dark after all, and, regardless of its name, Amity Park wasn't always the best place to be alone at night. Not because of human enemies, but the supernatural kind. He knew he could handle himself, but he hadn't made his mind up yet about Kim, so he made the executive decision to make sure she got into her apartment building safe.
The walk had been brisker than the first one now that the sun had been down for a short time, and the air prickling the hairs on his arms only made Danny feel more anxious.
"This was fun," Kim finally said, trying to break the ice. They had hardly said a word at the ice cream parlor, and she wanted to make sure Danny knew she had a really nice time.
"We should do it again sometime," she added when he didn't respond.
Danny suddenly smiled as bright as Kim had ever seen, and she couldn't help but feel giddy too when she saw it. "Yea, we should!"
Her apartment building was now in eyesight, so Kim turned to him. "Definitely. Are you sure you're gonna be okay getting home?" Regardless of that ridiculous body, she had never seen the evidence that he could put up much fight in a mugging.
But he just shrugged, and told her, "Yea. Don't worry about me. If you got home safe, my life's mission would be complete," he joked, causing Kim to laugh lightly.
"Well I hope so, because this is my building," she told him, and stopped walking and turned towards him. Danny grinned in the way the street lamp kissed her soft cheek. Something he wouldn't mind doing himself.
Suddenly that thought really came to him when she was standing there. Her lips were moving, but he was in a trance staring at them, not really listening to what she was saying.
"I really did have a lot of fun tonight."
"Me too," Danny muttered, unconsciously growing closer to Kim's face, drawn by the plush and full shaped, pink under toned, softly placed lips on the bottom half of her face.
Kim felt her heart rate spike. Could it be that Danny Fenton was trying to give her a good night kiss? She felt herself leaning in to him, expecting the feeling of his gentle touch, but that wasn't what she felt.
Suddenly the material of the suit was expanding and growing down her body, about to peep out from under her shirt. She immediately drew back, and put her hand on the doorknob of her apartment building. Her suit had almost escaped underneath her shirt. It must've been the raise in her heart rate.
"I, uh, I… My aunt… uh… see you Monday," she stammered to him, and then threw herself on the other side of the door. Sprinting towards the staircase, and feeling like shit for leaving Danny on the other side of the door probably very confused.
She finally made it up the five flights, and fumbled with the keys only a little bit before yanking open the door, and throwing herself onto her bed. She put her hands over her face in exasperation, and made a mental note to call her mom later for advice.
How did she really feel about Danny? Was it enough to tell him her secret?
A/N: Yea! Slight cliff hanger, lol
I'm sorry that I haven't been updating very much, but the truth is, I've taken a major liking to that show American Horror Story and I sorta had to go through this phase for a while after watching all three seasons. Do any of you watch it? If not and you like that kind of darkness in a show, I seriously recommend it. There is really one actor to watch out for (he is the reason I watch the show, lol): EVAN PETERS
He plays the psychotic and sweet Tate in Season 1: Murderhouse
The romantic and genuine Kit in Season 2: Asylum
And the protective and gentle Kyle in Season 3: Coven
Personally, Murderhouse is my fave :P
Anyways, I have really been obsessing over this for a while, and find it hard to think about anything else, lol. That's why I haven't been able to update. I only want American Horror Story to be on my mind.. BUT I hope I made up for it with this long chapter :) Speaking of which, how did you like it? Please leave all questions and concerns in comments :P
One last thing, if you do like American Horror Story: Murderhouse, please please go check out the FanFic: Violate by AmericanHorrorStory because I love it and think it deserves WAY MORE ATTENTION than it is currently receiving.
Have a beautiful rest-of Valentine's Day :3
