Ch.57 The Endless Abyss
It took only seconds for us to reach the spot where Ansem was, but when Sora and I leaped over the edge of the pit we passed through easily. Donald and Goofy, on the other hand, were thrown back, repelled by a barrier. "Hey, we can't get down there!" Donald called to us. I looked up and frowned, but Sora said "It's okay! You two just hang tight!" They nodded, and Goofy said "Be careful!" We both nodded, but when he looked forward again Ansem had vanished. "Huh? What the-?" I began, before suddenly the ground began shaking. In front of me and Sora the ground turned black, a portal of darkness appearing. From it rose a giant Heartless, one that was very familiar to the two of us. A Darkside. Sora grunted and summoned his Oathkeeper, and I said "Here, let me see that."
He handed it to me, and I channeled the darkness in me into the blade. The Oathkeeper crackled with electricity before it began enveloped in darkness, resolving itself to be the Oblivion Keyblade. "There, that should help," I said, summoning Stormfell. Sora nodded his thanks, and the Darkside stood at its full height before us. Rather than be intimidated, I held my weapon high before charging, yelling in defiance. Sora did the same, and the Darkside curled into right hand into a fist before swinging. We dodged and the fist punched into the ground, creating a whirlpool of darkness. From that darkness emerged four Shadows, all of them turning to us. "I'll take the small fry. You get the big one!" I said. "Right!" Sora said, and ran at the Darkside. Meanwhile I cast Triple Firaga and destroyed two of the Shadows, hitting another Blizzaga.
Sora leaped up and slashed at the Darkside's hand, trying to deal some damage looked down at him and stared with its empty eyes, before pulling that hand away. Sora cast Thundaga and blasted the Heartless with several lightning bolts, but it didn't even so much as grunt. Instead, the Heartless dropped to its knees and held its arms over its chest cavity, which began glowing. I destroyed the fourth Shadow with Freeze Raid and turned to see it just as the Darkside unleashed a pair of glowing orbs of energy. One flew at either of us and I blocked, pushing against the orb and sending it into the wall next to the Darkside,. The orb exploded when it hit the wall, leaving a streak of soot. Sora swung and hit the orb flying at him like a baseball bat, hitting it back. The Darkside fired two more and the one Sora hit collided with a new one, both exploding.
I blocked mine with Barrier and used Counter Burst, shattering that barrier and sending shards of it in ever direction. Several pierced the Darkside's right arm before vanishing, and that did cause the monster to groan. It looked over at me and fired four orbs of energy, one aimed at Sora while three came for me. I spun in a circle and swung my Stormfell, sending them all away. Sora cast Graviga and it smashed into the ground, while one of the orbs I had deflected hit the Darkside straight in the face. It groaned again, this time louder, and stood. It swung a fist into the ground and sent out a shockwave of energy. I leaped over it but the Darkside grabbed me with its free hand, raising me into the air. "Hey! Let me go!" I yelled, struggling to break free. But the Darkside's grip was like iron, and I couldn't break free.
Sora cast Stopga and tried to freeze the Darkside, but to no avail. I managed to free my arm holding the Stormfell and stabbed into the Darkside's hide, getting a moan of pain as my response. But before it could crush me Sora used Sonic Blade and hit one of its legs, nearly breaking it in the process. The Darkside looked down and swung, creating both a shockwave and another whirlpool of darkness. Sora took the chance to jump onto its arm and run up, using Ars Arcanum and dealing a blistering flurry of blows straight to its face. The Darkside roared in pain and let go of me, standing and covering its face. I cast Ice Barrage and destroyed the Shadows, while Sora used Aeroga to propel himself into the air. The Darkside saw him and swung with a fist, but Sora used Aeroga again and moved above it. He began falling back down, and called "This is it!"
He landed right on the Darkside's face and pointed Oblivion downwards, yelling as he stabbed the Heartless in the face. The Darkside roared and reached up to throw Sora off, but he pulled his Keyblade out and hit the face with a quick Firaga spell before leaping off, landing on the ground and rolling to avoid breaking his legs. The Darkside let out one more moan before it fell to its knees, and then forward. Sora and I moved to either side and the Heartless fell to the ground, fading away into the darkness. I huffed a breath and turned to Sora, giving him thumbs-up. Nice work. Sora returned the gesture, but then we both looked up at seeing a hole of darkness appear. From it emerged Ansem and his Guardian, both of them smirking. Sora and I tightened our grips our weapons. The fight wasn't over yet.
Ansem cast Triple Firaga and sent a trio of fireballs at us while the Guardian threw several of the scything blades from before. I cast Magnega and drew all of the blades to me, which I in turn blocked with Barrier. Sora knocked away one of the fireballs before blocking another, and he extinguished the last one with Blizzaga. The Guardian flew at him and swung with a hammer fist, which Sora ducked to avoid. I came up behind the Guardian and used Blitz, dealing three large cuts to its back. It snarled and turned around, hitting me with a vicious uppercut. I stumbled back and Ansem cast Dark Firaga, hitting me with a ball of black flames. The ball exploded and I flew back a few feet, landing on my back. I groaned and stood, casting Thundaga Shot and sending an orb of electricity at him.
"Come, Guardian!" he called, and the Guardian stopped trying to hit Sora and flew in front of its master, blocking the Thundaga Shot. I frowned and cast Zero Graviga, trying to knock them both off-balance. It worked slightly, but Ansem smirked. His body became enveloped in a blue-white aura and everything turned dark. "My strength returns!" he called, and Guardians vanished. A circle of black and purple appeared beneath me, and I had just enough time to roll out of the way before the Guardian burst from the ground, almost grabbing me. I stood and ran as one appeared where I was, just barely missing. "Sora, run!" I said. Sora nodded and dashed away from where he had been, avoiding the Guardian as well. "What do you hope to accomplish?" Ansem taunted. I said nothing and merely kept running, the Guardian at our heels.
"Do not deny it," Ansem said. "Oh, shut up!" I replied, before resuming my run. The Guardian stopped and returned to Ansem. "The final darkness is now," he said, and unleashed a wave of energy in four directions. I just so happened to be in one of them, and was hit in the center of the chest. I flew back until I crashed into a wall and fell to one knee, wincing in pain. "Dexal!" Sora called, before he could do anything Ansem called "Submit!" and the Guardian flew at him. Sora tried to move back but the Guardian grabbed him and held him in place, while Ansem cast Glacier. Sora was frozen in a block of ice which the Guardian picked up, before grunting and slamming it into the ground. The ice shattered and the shard cut every part of Sora's body they could get, leaving him with cuts all along him arms, legs and the sides of his face.
I cast Curaga on myself and stood, doing the same to Sora before I called "Hey, Ansem!" The Seeker of Darkness turned just as I cast another Thundaga Shot, and this time the Guardian didn't return quickly enough to protect Ansem from it. He shouted in pain from the voltage and fired a blot of black lightning at me, which I dodged. Sora came to his feet and swung at the Guardian, who blocked him and tried to sucker punch him in the gut. But Sora cast Aero and the wind pushed back the Heartless, allowing Sora to properly aim at it and cast Firaga, Blizzaga and Thundaga in rapid succession. I used Ars Solum and swung at Ansem, attacking from every angle in a combination of blows that left him staggered. He and the Guardian rejoined and Ansem said "Fools. Handle this!" The both of them become enveloped in a single purple-blue energy shield, and flew at Sora.
He managed to dodge, but they pursued him and tackled Sora to the ground. With that done they turned to me, and I used Sonic Blade to dodge when they flew at me. They kept going though, and there was only so many times I could use the move to propel myself out of harm's way. Eventually Ansem and his Guardian gained the upper hand, and knocked me into the dirt. With that done the shield around them vanished, and Guardian grabbed me by the shoulders. I kicked and struggled as he rose me into the air, and Ansem cast Glacier on me. I was frozen stiff and inside an ice block, which the Guardian smashed into the ground just like with Sora. The shards cut into me and I cried out, every single cut stinging. Sora stood and cast Curaga on me before running at Ansem, saying "It's time to put an end to you!"
"Not quite!" Ansem replied, turning and casting Triple Blizzaga. Sora cast just as many Firaga spells and canceled them out, but by the Guardian had come and was about grab Sora again. When I saw that I stood despite the pain, and said "Nice try!" I pointed my Keyblade at them and poured my strength into this attack, calling "Prism Rain!" A volley of sixteen orbs of light, each of a differing color, fired from the end of my Stormfell and hit the Guardian, pummeling it with shot after shot of power. Ansem frowned turned but was hit by four of them, falling back. Seeing that this was his chance, Sora ran around the Guardian and charged. "Here!" he said, and stabbed the end of Oblivion into Ansem's chest. He froze and gasped, as did the Guardian. I was still, waiting to see if that had finished him. But then suddenly the ground began shaking, and from around the Keyblade in Ansem's chest darkness suddenly burst out, enveloping us.
When the darkness finally began fading it showed that Donald and Goofy were back with us, although we were standing in the middle of nowhere. There truly was nothing but black all around us, with just a hint of gray smoke. We weren't even standing on any- just floating in the air. "Wha...?" Sora said. But then we heard Ansem's voice, and he said "Behold the endless abyss. Within it lies the heart of all worlds: Kingdom Hearts!" I gasped and looked, seeing a tiny floating area of rock in the distance. And at the end of that rock was a giant white door, with the dark mist forming a heart around the entire floating area. "Look as hard as you are able. You'll not find even the smallest glimmer of light. From those dark depths are all hearts born. Even yours," Ansem said. Then from below a massive shape began to emerge, and we all gasped.
"Darkness conquers all worlds!" Ansem proclaimed. Floating before us with a titanic Heartless battleship, one that I knew to be the World of Chaos. Attached to the top of it were Ansem's Guardian, now even larger, and the man himself. His cloak had been removed and now he was holding a weapon: a double-ended Soul Eater larger than I was tall. Suddenly whatever force had been holding us in the air vanished, and we all began falling. A dark green and black portal appeared and sucked in Donald and Goofy before closing. Sora and I fell down into the abyss, unable to do anything. But then, as we fell, I could hear the voice of Riku say "Giving up already? Come on, Sora, Dexal. I thought you were stronger than that." That taunting gave me the strength I needed, and I willed myself to stop falling. I did and hovered just like in the fight with the Chernabog, and Sora did the same.
We both rose back above the World of Chaos looked at Ansem in his ultimate form, drawing our weapons. The last part of the fight was here. Now it was time to finish it.
The World of Chaos has appeared, but can Sora and Dexal rescue Donald and Goofy and defeat the empowered Ansem? And at what cost?
