When Danny opened his eyes, he was unsurprised to see that he had in fact appeared in the Realm of the Far Frozen. He felt an icy shiver go down his spine, and instantly crossed his bare arms to try to warm himself up.
Wait, bare arms…
He was still in his human form! No wonder the cold air was affecting him so. Without hesitation, he immediately transformed into his easier to get around ghostly state. It wasn't until the belt of energy appeared and he saw two wide sage eyes staring at him from his peripheral that he remembered Kim was still with him. He wasn't one hundred percent sure how she would react to him being so comfortable in his ghost form, but it was too late now. The beam had already transformed his knees to his neck.
When the transformation was complete, Danny locked green eyes with Kim, unsure of what to say; if there were even words for it.
"I, er–" he began.
"That's so cool," Kim breathed, not even realizing she had interrupted him.
Danny just stared. That had not been the reaction he had been expecting. But here she was gazing at the place where the phasing belt always appeared with intrigue.
Danny suddenly felt shy, and although he was no longer cold in his ghostly hazmat suit, he felt another shiver of embarrassment crawl up his vertebrae, and he was confused by how to handle it. For now, however, he felt comfortable with his arms safely crossed in front of his chest.
Danny cleared his throat, and rolled up the Infi-Map. "Come on," he began, trying to ignore her awe at his ghostly form. She had seen it many times, and had tried to kill him in it every time. "We have to go return this to –"
A gigantic yeti suddenly stepped in the way of the two mortals. His white, hairy being obstructed their path, and Kim felt her eyes pop out of her head. Where had this ghost boy taken her?
"Frostbite!" Danny greeted with a smile.
"Chosen One, I see you have returned the Infi-Map, as promised. We are, as always, indebted to you." He said this, and offered Danny a deep bow. Danny smiled and did feel flattered, but the worship that he usually received from the ghost yettis felt weird in front of Kim.
"We can call it even if you put it back in that tower," Danny joked, but the giant replied, "Deal." And Danny couldn't help but laugh at the creature. He would certainly have a great time in that room of fire.
"Did it work well for you? Take you where you need to be?" Frostbite confirmed with Danny.
And that was when it hit him. The map must've somehow known that Kim was trouble. That was why he landed behind her. If he had landed in front of her, he wouldn't have received the element of surprise – which he didn't really have anyway, but that was his own fault; the map had done a spectacular job with warning him of Kim's true identity, but Danny was too blind to see it. Luckily, he wasn't anymore.
"Yes, precisely," Danny replied, and smiled at Kim. "Frostbite, this is my friend, Kim Possible," Danny introduced. "She's the one I needed to find with the map's help."
"Yes, it is indeed an honor to meet you, Kim. Any friend of the Great One's is a friend of ours," Frostbite replied.
"The honor's mine, really," Kim smiled, still quite shocked at the conversation she was holding.
"Will you go take down the Enemy with pink powers, now?" Frostbite asked Danny. He nodded, and promised that he would do exactly that. He noticed Frostbite's face ignite more when he did.
They said their farewells, and Danny and Kim exited the tundra by means of going up. Once he had flown the two of them to the mouth of the cavern, Danny set Kim down, and took out the GPS again. Maybe Kim could help him with cracking the code.
"What's that?" she asked. Danny gave it to her.
"It's a GPS: Ghost Portal Sensor. It's a map of all the leaking Ecto-Energy into the human world. My parents invented it, though they didn't realize that you needed to be in the Ghost Zone for it to work. Basically, it tells you how to escape the Ghost Zone from the inside. Very useful for us; very dangerous if in the wrong hands."
"You just happened to have that with you? What if you dropped it and another ghost found it?"
"Well, I didn't have it with me. Jazz sent it to me –"
"Wait, how did she get that to you? Is she in here, too?"
"No. It's sorta a long story, but I'll try my best to explain it quickly," Danny began. "My parents invented this device that tracks my ecto-energy and Jazz told this machine to find me, and because it is connected to me, it did just that."
Kim stared at him blankly. It was clear that what Danny had just said had gone over her head. Danny sighed, and tried a little harder.
"See, my parents are really smart. I mean, they're total idiot ghost hunters, but they are genius when it comes to ghost technology. The only problem is, they can never get anything to work properly because they don't even understand what they've built. The whole portal situation that changed me? They were super bummed it hadn't worked because they didn't know about the whole switch situation inside the portal. This GPS thing? They think it's broken because you need to be inside the Ghost Zone. Anyways, they invented this thing called the Boo-merang," – Danny pulled it out of his suit here – "and it's a really neat device. The point is for it to latch on to a ghost's ecto-DNA and be able to track it. The flaw is that the memory can't be overridden. So, when my parents first showed me it, it somehow latched on to my DNA. Now, my sister uses it to find me whenever I go missing – which surprisingly happens a lot. That's how she got this to me," he ended.
"But what if some other ghost had gotten the GPS, and learned how to get out of here?" Kim reasonably questioned.
"Well that would be REALLY bad. Luckily, Jazz was smart enough to think of that and password protected it. Not so lucky, I don't know what the password is…"
"How do you not know?"
"She attached a letter, and underlined this one part: the day this all began," he told her.
"So, obviously, the day you got your powers. That was the start of it all, right?"
"No, Jazz wasn't there…"
"I'm sure Sam and Tucker are looking for you, too. And they were there. They're probably working together."
Danny realized she was right. They would never let Jazz do all of the searching. With a deep breath, Danny punched eight digits into the GPS, and immediately the blue box that demanded the password disappeared, and a blinking green dot appeared on the black screen. Around that dot on the black screen, a rough sketch of the world appeared. Danny zoomed in on Amity Park, and suddenly remembered something about his portal and why they couldn't exit through there.
"My portal's locked," he whispered. He had put a lock on the exterior of the portal so that ghosts couldn't come through it, but that also meant he couldn't either, and that meant that they'd have to find a different portal. Vlad's was WAY too risky, and those are the only two secure ones in Amity Park. He would have to look in a different location until he was able to call his friends and get them to unlock it. Right now, he had no cell service and no means of getting it except for this small handheld device.
"Can we exit in Middleton?" Kim asked. Danny stared at her. "What?"
"Well, I'm assuming the solid green dots are the portals, and there's one exactly where Middleton is. Please? I haven't seen my family in two months. I'll be very quick," Kim begged. She didn't want to resort to her puppy dog face, but she would under pressing circumstance.
An idea suddenly dawned on Danny. He turned to face his ginger friend. "Kim, you're a genius!"
…
Kim smiled at her ghostly friend. She would never deny the fact that she was a genius. Any daughter who was the child of a brain surgeon and a rocket scientist ought to be; especially if that daughter was a Possible. Only, she didn't know why she was a genius – this time anyway. She asked a Danny what it was about her that was genius-like at the moment.
"Why am I a genius?"
"Because there is a portal… in Middleton! You have connections there!"
Kim shrugged. Of course she had connections there. That was her hometown with her family and friends, but she had no idea where this was going.
"What if we raised an army in Middleton?"
Kim didn't respond. She didn't know how. Raise an army? What, like zombies? She opened her mouth to reply, but Danny's voice filled the air.
"Wait! Just hear me out," he pleaded. Kim nodded in response. She had to give him a shot. Maybe whatever idea she had just helped with would be awesome.
"Okay, so we get to Middleton, and recruit your friends – only the trained ones of course – to fight against Vlad."
The minute the sentence rolled off Danny's tongue, he immediately regretted it. Who was he to ask Kim's friends and family to fight in his battle? How much of an ass hole was he? He would never ask his own friends and family to risk their lives, so why was he so quick to do it to hers. Could it get any worse than this?
He was so busy patronizing himself that he didn't notice Kim's eyes light up at the idea. She was definitely excited for it. The same could not be said for Danny. Kim, again, opened her mouth to say something, but instead Danny's voice rang out.
"I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have asked that. Forget it. How could I ask your family to fight my war?"
Kim blinked. She was so surprised at his response. Here, she was about to say that she loved the idea. And she had a few select people in mind towards who she could ask…
"Are you crazy? I think that's awesome," Kim smiled.
"Kim, they could get seriously injured. I would never forgive myself if I was responsible behind that. Never."
Kim rolled her eyes. Danny had no idea who lived in her small town. They could handle their own. In fact, that's exactly what she told him, but he wasn't buying it.
"NO, Kim," he ordered firmly.
Kim glared at him, "Believe me, these guys are good."
They held a stare for a long time when Danny finally shook his head, and sighed, "You are insane," half under his breath and half outloud. Kim still heard him, but she only smiled and kissed him lightly on the head.
"You won't regret this."
Kim smiled at the cute rosy hue that Danny turned, and giggled to herself. Again, they stared at one another for a very long time, but Kim finally turned around, and looked at the GPS in her hand. "Come on. Let's figure out how to get out of here."
Danny agreed that that was by far the best idea.
…
When Danny and Kim reached the top of the cave to the Realm of the Far Frozen, Kim gasped. She had never seen such a bottomless abyss before. The green fog seemed to go on for hundreds of thousands of millions of kilometers, and there was nothing she had to protect herself from it.
"Can you fly?" danny asked, drawing Kim from her thoughts.
"What?"
"Your suit. Can it fly?"
Kim nodded, and immediately willed her suit to crawl over her body by rapidly starting her heart rate. She made sure that the white did not grow all across her face, but rather stopped at her chin and hairline.
"Good. I don't know how far this portal is," Danny resoonded, and took off. Kim slowly followed. She had never flown with nothing below her to cushion her fall. Nothing at all.
"Just watch where you're going, and you won't fall," Danny promised, and took Kim by the hand.
They flew like that for quite some time. Hand entwined with hand; glow to glove. Kim felt so much safer with Danny there to keep her grounded. They had both lost track of the time. It seemed to not pass at all around here. The greenness all blended in together, and it wasn't until Danny saw a weird oasis that he remembered where they were trying to fly towards.
"Hang on," he said and stopped flying. Hovering, he had to slip his hand out of the ginger's grasp to search his pockets for the GPS. He quickly typed the password now that he knew it, and saw that the solid, larger green dot that indicated Middleton was almost directly on top of blinking one.
"I think this is it," Danny said, and reattached their locked hands in order to fly towards the garden.
They landed on the patchy greens, and Kim immediately felt her heart rate return to normal now that she was grounded. Her suit slowly receded, and she was now free to observe her surroundings.
The Girl in White gazed up and down, east and west, and all around her. The fertile soil was covered in the greenest grass she had ever seen; of course, the green hue might have had something to do with the green swirling around them. The soil was soft and squishy, and Kim felt herself sinking into it. All she wanted to do was lay down in the soft plant and lie in the sun, and sleep, but there was no sun in this hell.
But that was the thing about the oasis Danny had spotted. It was like a mini Elysian Fields inside the darkness of Tartarus; the spot of land that Kim was on was utterly beautiful. To her left stood a field of poppies. They seemed to go on and on forever in different shades of red: vermillion, burgundy, cardinal, scarlet, crimson, rust, and even a dark raspberry. The vibrant flowers were boundless.
At the beginning of the field, tall trees stood swaying in no breeze. The pine foliage tickled the air, and the it reminded Kim of the spawn of fall.
Directly where Kim was standing was a path that led into the expanse of a forest. The trees were few and spread out here, but up ahead, Kim knew they would thicken.
To her left another row of spread out trees swung; oak this time with beautiful gray moss hanging down its sides and branches. The boughs were thick and covered with large oak leaves.
Behind the elegant, old trees, Kim noticed a field of dandelions. The endless strings of fluffy whiteness clouded Kim's vision and she could not see beyond the expanse of flowers, if anything existed there. The flowers looked soft and welcoming like Kim's old comforter. What she would give to just have a night in her own home! If only.
But that's when the awe of her surroundings decreased, and she realized that was exactly what she was doing: going home. She turned back to Danny who seemed just as amazed at the beauty of the place as she was.
"It's beautiful," Kim smiled at him. Danny look at her, and smiled back, "It is." Kim couldn't help but think there was another meaning to what he had said. What was it? Her perhaps…
They stared at one another amidst the gorgeous nature for a long time. It wasn't until Kim noticed his bright green eyes blink that she remembered why they were here. She tore apart their gaze, and reminded him, "Let's go find that portal."
Danny nodded after her, and they started to walk into the forest that grew denser by the second. The light that emitted through the fields of flowers dissipated, and Kim immediately clutched Danny's hand to remind herself that he was still there. She loved the way his breath hitched at their contact, and smiled to herself.
"Hang on," Danny whispered to her, and illuminated a bit of ectoplasm in his hands. He was scared that Kim would reject his light source, but for the second time that day she had surprised him. Instead of utter disgust and distaste, she was amazed and intrigued. Maybe there was still hope for their friendship. …or more…
They walked – hand in hand – into the forest, and soon an image of an arch came into Danny's vision. His sensing ghost eyes spotted the shape first, and he squinted so as to get a better view. It appeared that the vines from the trees enveloped around each other and across the path to create an arch way.
When they came up on it, Danny immediately stopped walking and turned to Kim. "I think this is it," he said.
Kim nodded in concurrence, and turned to the archway. "On three. One…. Two…"
"Kim, wait," Danny pleaded. She stopped mid jump, and turned to Danny – her large eyes full of questions.
"What?" she asked.
"Before we go, I just… I just… I'm not sure when we'll be alone again, so I just want you to know that… I hope we're still friends," Danny struggled to get out.
"Of course we're friends," Kim smiled. She was about to turn back to the arch when he stopped her by grasping her arm.
"Well, I wonder if that means we can be more than friends…" he thought aloud.
"More than…"
"Yes, more than friends. Kim, I think you are the coolest person ever. I never want to imagine my life without you. You're funny and smart and c–"
Suddenly, Kim's ever-so-soft lips were fully on his.
She pressed softly against him, and Kim could tell the experience was making Danny nervous. With ease, she grasped his calloused hands and gently placed them on her waist as if to tell him it was okay. She slowly removed her hands from his and moved her hands to loop around his hot neck and tousle his hair lightly. The fact that she played with his white hair, and that Kim had already grown accustomed to it in less than 24 hours was one of the many things that Danny liked about her. He now realized that she accepted both sides of him, and with a burst of confidence. He pressed his lips back into hers. The sparks flew all over his body, and he was buzzing.
He moved his hands up to brush her hair out of the way, and cupped her beautiful face. Kim, meanwhile, lowered her hands to lay them on top Danny's chest. She allowed her forearms to rest there while she inhaled, and enjoyed the smell of Danny's aftershave near her.
Finally, they had to break apart for air, and Kim was the first who spoke between them.
"I really like you, too."
Danny laughed at how adorable her reaction was, and asked, sincerely, "Does this mean we're, like, dating?"
"Well, I'm not hearing a formal request…" Kim teased.
Danny chuckled, and took Kim's hand in his. "Kim Possible, will you be my girlfriend?"
Kim immediately lunged to seize his lips again – this time for a much shorter kiss. He broke apart first, and teased the ginger, "I'm not hearing a formal answer…"
Kim punched him lightly on the arm, and – formally – said, "Yes."
"Then let's go back to Middleton," he said, and Kim only grasped his hand in response, and yanked both of them through the portal.
A/N: Heyy! So... how'd you like it? Please review! I love reading all of them.
The next chapter is the one where all of your submissions for KP characters will come into play, but for now, I threw you this bone... if that made any sense what so ever... ;)
So, review!
