Chapter 16
We all stood there in shock for a while, before Gwen began to run. "What is that?"
Jack didn't answer her instead he said, "Come on!"
"Jack," an aggitated Welsh voice came.
"Mm?"
"Do you truly plan on endangering the lives of two children? We don't know what's up there." Ianto was standing up, and tapping his finger against his pants pocket in a nervous and anticipatory way.
"Right. Caleb, Jess, you guys stay here. Uh, Owen, stay with them." He was staring intently at the hovering box.
"Pfft." The noise came out of me, sounding like sarcastic laughter. "You really think I'm going to stay here?"
"Jessica, you are NOT coming with us."
"Well I'm not just gonna sit here while you guys go up there. You seem to forget I'm immortal." I saw the look on Jack's face, and instantly regretted it.
"Jessica! You are not going up there. You're going to stay here with Caleb and Owen. I don't want to see you come near that ship!" He was angry, and understandably so.
I nodded, and walked over beside Caleb, taking his hand. "Let's go Caleb." He looked at me as he stood up, then turned to Jack.
"Be careful," he said. Then he did something strange. He left my side and wrapped the captain in a very unexpected hug.
Jack awkwardly wrapped his arms around his younger self. He patted his back, and looked at me for some kind of answer. I just shrugged.
I turned to Owen, and began to walk towards the hub. Something didn't feel right, but I couldn't quite place it.
TWTWTWTWTW
The three of us were sitting in the main centre of the hub. Owen had finally hooked up the connection, so we got cable. Caleb and I were intently staring at the screen as we watched 'Dancing With The Stars'. We had watched all of the episodes from this season, and were on the live finale.
I heard Owen snicker slightly every time one of us had gotten angry about an elimination, or get excited about a dance. He was cleaning something down stairs in the med bay, while we were on the edge of our seats, and biting our nails to find out who would win. Caleb and my number one choice did win, and we both started to jump up and down, before feeling embarrassed and sitting back down. What can I say? We got emotionally invested.
He went to bed a while later, claiming to be practically dead after a whole season's worth of DWTS, and I sprawled out across the couch, turning on reruns of Supernatural. Something started to not feel right again, but I thought it was just anxiety about not knowing where the team was, even though Jack had texted, saying everthing was resolved.
I tried to relax, when all of a sudden, it felt like I was stabbed in the heart. I tried to sit up, but I couldn't. I tried to calm down and look at the spot, and there was nothing there. I could only scream.
Owen came flying up the stairs, and practically jumped the couch. He took one look at me, before grabbing me, and carrying me down to the med bay. I was writhing in pain on the ice-cold table. I couldn't even comprehend what was happening around me, as it was too painful.
Finally, everything went dark. I didn't know how long it had been, until I was awoken with a sharp shock to the chest. I was hooked up to a defibrillator. Tubes sprang out of my arms in every which way, and there was an oxygen tube in my nose. Owen stood above me, looking shocked and tired.
I had woken up in my bed, and I didn't know what was wrong with me. I wanted someone to explain everything to me. My chest pain was the only sensation I felt.
