Ch.58 The Last Battle
Sora and I flew forward at Ansem, and he raised his halberd. "Turn to darkness!" he called, and swung. I dodged to the side while Sora did the same, but then the other end of Ansem's weapon came around, and I just barely blocked it. Sora cast Aeroga around both of us, and then fired a Blizzaga spell at Ansem. He blocked it and responded with Triple Blizzaga, shooting three ice chunks at Sora. The wind shield knocked away one and Sora parried another, but the third one hit him in the stomach and sent him back. I cast Thundaga Shot and Ansem ducked, avoiding the spell and cast the same back at one. I dodged and swung upwards, and Ansem blocked me, our blades locking against each other. I glared at Ansem, who smirked. "Just give up, Dexal. You can't even let go of what happened the last time we fought. How will you manage to win this time?" he said.
I gritted my teeth and pushed, shoving Ansem away while I moved back. "I'll win this time, because I have more than just a friend on the line now. I'm fighting to save the worlds!" I called, and charged. Ansem blocked my strike and twisted the blade so that he could block Sora as well, and then channeled a Thundaga spell through the metal our weapons. My muscles locked up from the voltage before I cried out, catapulting back. Sora suffered the same fate, although he was able to recover much faster than I was. I could feel my hatred for this man begin to resurface, and it was made stronger by the fact we were in the realm of darkness. I could feel my Heartless instincts try to rise, but I mentally shoved them back down. I would not lose control now. I came back in and used Ars Solum, swinging in a deadly fury of blows.
Ansem blocked each strike and cast Dark Firaga at Sora, who hit the spell with Thundaga. The two spells collided and exploded in a large cloud of smoke, which Sora flew through. Before he could cast any more magic the Guardian suddenly roared, waving one of its arms. Sora shouted as a blue orb of energy appeared from his body and flew at the Heartless, which absorbed it. When Sora tried to hit it with Firaga he failed, and I realized what had happened. The Guardian had drained Sora of all his magic reserves. With no magic to use Sora used physical attacks, attacking Ansem right along with me. He spun his halberd in a circle and deflected our moves, also casting Firaga Burst at me.
I blocked and cast Triple Firaga, hitting Ansem three times. He frowned and called "Turn to darkness!" and swung at me. I moved out of range while Sora came in from the side, striking and dealing a blow to Ansem's stomach. He clutched it and glared at Sora, a dark aura appearing around him. Sora flew away out of caution, and Ansem called "Come forth!" The dark aura faded and a trio of Bit Snipers appeared, flapping their wings as they flew at us. All three of them opened their mouths and fired tiny lasers at us, which we both ducked to avoid. Ansem swung at Sora and he blocked, but then Ansem moved his blade so as to attack with the lower end, and hit Sora with a long cut across his chest. "Sora!" I called, and cast Curaga. The wound itself healed for the most part, and Sora took out an Ether and drank it, replenishing his magic.
With that done he cast Cura on himself and healed the wound the rest of the way. The Bit Snipers fired at him and he blocked, causing the lasers to bounce back and kill two of them. I took out the last one with Zantetsuken and we turned to Ansem. He cast Deep Freeze and nearly froze us solid, but then I cast Raging Storm and created a whirlwind of fire, which canceled Ansem's spell. I focused and the whirlwind moved to surround him, hitting Ansem with a twister of burning wind. He gritted his teeth in pain as he was burned, and cast Glacier. The two spells canceled each other out and Ansem swung at us, spinning his halberd. I blocked and so did Sora, and Sora actually countered with Strike Raid. He threw his Keyblade and it hit Ansem in the chest before flying back, and Sore called "Take this! Ragnorak!"
He pointed Keyblade at Ansem and I could see energy gather in a sphere around the tip before firing, releasing a salvo of sixteen shots of light. Ansem grunted as was about to spin his halberd and block them when I came from the side, ready to use Brutal Blast. Ansem blocked me but was left open, and all of the hits from Sora's Ragnorak hit him at once. Ansem yelled in pain and swung wildly, but to no avail. The attack created a cloud of smoke around him, and when it faded it showed that he was covered in burns. Ansem grunted and held up his halberd, which vanished. He crossed his arms over his chest and fell back, entering a hallow in the Guardian's body. There was a flash of light and a Heartless crest appeared over him, sealing him inside. At the same time a portal of darkness appeared just like the ones Donald and Goofy had been sucked into.
Without waiting we flew into the portal and everything turned black for a second. When we could see again we were in a room that was all black save for a glowing blue Heartless crest. From that surface rose a dozen Shadows, all of their eyes trained on us. Sora cast Thundaga and blasted them with bolts of lightning, while I smirked and ran into the middle of them. "Gather!" I called, and cast Magnega. All of the Heartless were drawn into the spell over my head. Sora aimed and shot a Firaga at that spell, hitting all of them all once. The Shadows fell back to the ground and I swung in a circle, dealing the last blow that killed five of them. Sora took out another three with Sonic Blade, then another with Strike Raid. That left just three more, and they all sank into the ground and moved across it at me.
I used the chance to cast Quake, forcing the ground to erupt and send the Shadows out it, one of them killed. Sora jumped and swung twice, killing the last two. When the last Shadow faded away there was suddenly a flash of light, and what looked like the room's core appeared in the center of the area. Quickly I struck it and sliced through the core, Sora doing the same until the core was torn in half. The pieces shuddered before exploding, and everything turned black again. After a few seconds Sora and I were forced out of the portal of darkness, which faded away. Another one, this time purple, appeared in front of the Guardian. I could sense that this one was closed and saw that the Artillery scattered all over the World of Chaos was shaking, brought to life to attack us.
"We have to destroy the Artillery to open that portal!" I called to Sora. He nodded and flew at one of the lines of Artillery, swinging. I targeted the three larger pieces around the portal, all of which fired lasers at me. I dodged the first two and used Barrier to block the third, casting Counter Blast and sending shards of the Barrier into the pieces of Artillery. They shuddered before readying to fire again, and I used Time Splicer. I teleported next to one piece and slashed four times before vanishing, the shot it fired missing. I reappeared next to the second piece and slashed another four times, repeating the process with the third piece. Looking behind me I could see that Sora had used Ars Arcanum and was slicing his way through the line of smaller Artillery. The sight prompted a smirk; despite this being an important battle it still felt like a race. And I wasn't going to lose.
I cast Meteor Crash and sent down a slew of tiny comets, battering the Heavy Artillery and destroying two pieces. The third one fired at me and I wasn't quick enough, the shot hitting me in the side. I spun around from the hit and focused to stop myself, turning back around and cleaving the Artillery in two with an overhead blow. I saw that Sora had finished destroying the first line of smaller artillery, and was now flying towards the others one. I flew down to help and started at the other end, both of us destroying one in a single swing before hitting the next one. I cast Blizzaga and chopped through my target, while Sora burnt it with Firaga. We both stabbed our Keyblades into the middle piece, destroying it. With the last piece of Artillery gone the purple portal turned green, now open.
Sora and I entered the portal and found ourselves in a room like before, only at the other end was a very familiar knight. "Goofy!" we both called. "Sora! Dexal! Gawrsh, am I glad to see the two of you!" Goofy said, running over to us. As he did though a dozen Darkballs appeared, blocking the path. I sighed; no rest for the weary. I ran forward and used Triple Firaga to destroy one of the Darkballs, while Sora stabbed another with his Oblivion. One tried to bite Goofy but he blocked with his shield. He charged and rammed the Darkball into another, hurting both before he turned his shield and buried the edge of it in one of Darkballs, ripping it back out. The Heartless faded away and their numbers were cut to nine, eight when Sora used Sonic Blade and hit one of the Darkballs at almost blinding speed.
Two Darkballs came at me from both side and I dropped, hitting the ground and letting the two collide into each other. I smirked and swung upwards from on the ground, cutting through one of them and dealing a slight blow to the other. It retreated but then Sora cast Graviga, flattening the Heartless to where Goofy could crush it with his shield. I cast Zero Graviga and robbed three of the remaining Heartless of their balance, causing them to tumble over in mid-air. Goofy used Rocket and placed his shield over his head, shooting off of the ground like a cork out of a bottle. He hit one of them and burst right through it, before suddenly veering off to the side, coming back and hitting the second, and then landing on the ground. Sora jumped up and stabbed his Keyblade downward, killing the third Darkball and leaving three left.
We each took one and I used Zantetsuken, killing mine with a single attack at such a speed it didn't even see it. Sora's target tried charging and biting at him but Sora cast a Stopga spell, freezing it with its mouth wide open. Sora stabbed it in and the point of the Oblivion came out the other side. The Heartless unfroze and burst into Shadows while Goofy held the edge of his shield with both hand and slammed it into the last Darkball's face. It flew back and landed on the ground, which is when Goofy used Tornado and spun on one foot. He hit the Darkball and killed it, and the core of this room appeared. I stepped aside and let Sora destroy it, which he did with pleasure. One he was finished that core also exploded, and the three of us were ejected outside the dark portal.
I looked around for another one and saw the face at the front of the World of Chaos move, opening its giant mouth and roaring. Well, that explained what we had to do now. Sora, Goofy and I flew at the Face and prepared to keep fighting. Once we defeated this enemy we could free Donald, and with the four of us as one we could take Ansem down.
