I lie on my bed watching little taco waddle around cheeping softly in an attempt to find me.
"Taco."
He spins around frantically, and I laugh.
"Taco."
He waddles around the bed trying to find a way up to me. I lean down and scoop him up in my hand, "Hello there little one." He chirps and waddles around the bed when I put him down, "Granted you are no kitten, but you're still cute."
He finally settles down next to me, and I pick up the book I was reading.
"Elizabeth!"
I throw one of my pillows on top of Taco as Inuyasha bursts in. "I'm glad I have such a thoughtful younger brother who knocks before entering a lady's room."
He shuts the door and glares at me, "Did you go out with Bankotsu?"
I groan inwardly at how fast word travels in this large city.
"That depends on how you define 'going out' "
"I'm not joking with you, Lizzy. Did you or didn't you?"
"Well since you're asking, I'm assuming you already know the answer to your own question."
Inuyasha growls, "What part of stay away from him didn't you understand?"
"It was a one-time thing. And since when did I have to report to you of my daily doings? Last time I checked, I was older."
A muffled cheep sounds and Inuyasha's ear perk up.
"What was that?"
"Nothing."
Taco chirps again, and I try to grab Inuyasha, but he dodges me and knocks the pillow off my bed. Taco flutters his little wings in surprise and waddles towards me. I catch him as he slips off the bed.
"Where'd you get that?"
"The fair"
"You mean the one where you had your date with Bankotsu?"
"Since when is it illegal to go to a fair and win a duck?"
Inuyasha's fist clench, and he bares a fang, "It's not, but going to the fair with bankotsu is illegal in my book."
"What so you're anti-human now?"
"No, just anti-Banktosu."
"He's not a bad guy, Inuyahsa."
He stares at me for a moment and his eyes go wide, "What was that?"
"What?"
He closes the space between us. His amber eyes carefully scrutinizing my face, "What did you just say?"
"I said bankotsu wasn't a bad-"
"THERE! Right there!"
His face was only inches away from mine now, "You like him."
"W-what?! I do not."
"Yes, you do."
He backs away shaking his head, "No, see this can't happen. I have to tell Sesshomaru."
"What! Why?!"
"Because you like Bankotsu. If it was anyone else, I wouldn't care, but it's Bankotsu."
I set Taco in his box.
"You wouldn't dare." I say slowly glaring
"Or what?"
"Or I'll tell Sesshomaru you were the one who broke the vase in the hallway."
Inuyasha chuckles while holding up his right hand, "Let's see, broken stupid vase or-" He hold up his left hand, "precious younger sister dating a human."
He takes a moment to weigh the two with deep consideration, "Yeah, I'll risk it. SESSHO-"
I body tackle him to the ground.
"Get off me you hippo! Sesshomaru! Sessho-"
I slap my hand over his mouth, and he licks my palm.
"UGH!"
He crawls out from under me and manages to make it to the hallway before I grab his ankles and pull him towards me.
"Sesshomaru! Lizzy is-"
I stuff a sock in his mouth and cover it with one of my scarves. I then take two more and tie his hands and feet together.
"What are you doing?"
I look up to see Sesshomaru looking down at us over his glasses.
"Uh…we…we're just playing rodeo…hehe….and Inuyasha had the misfortune of being the pig."
I stand.
"Come along little doggie."
I drag the wiggling muffled screaming Inuyasha back into my room, flash a smile, and shut the door.
I knock a little louder on the door.
"I heard you, just give me a second, geez! Sit down you little bastard or so help me I'll throw you out with the trash!"
The door yanks open and an exhausted Iggy stands before me.
"Well, I see you're feeling better."
She chuckles half heartedly, "Yeah it was either get better quick, or baby sit that little bastard with a 104 degree fever."
"Why on earth would your parents have you baby sit you brother with a fever?"
"Because a sick Iggy, means free babysitting."
She shuts the door behind me, and I set her homework down on.
"That's just sick."
"Preaching to the choir."
A shrill scream sounds as a little boy around the age of two slides in from the hall way a blue and bright yellow gun in his hands. A mischievous smile spreads across his lips, but he freezes once he sees me.
"Lizbet!"
The gun falls from his hands, and he runs towards me.
"Well, hello my darling."
I pick him up, and he hugs me tightly.
"Are you giving your poor sister a hard time?"
"No"
"Little liar."
I chuckle as I spin around with him in my arms. He giggles.
"Why don't you be a dear and leave us alone for a little while, ok?"
"Otay."
I set him down and he picks up his gun, firing a few shots at the back of Iggy's head, before running in to his room. Iggy growls as she glares down the hall.
"That's fine! I'll just tell mom, and she'll drop you back off at the orphanage on her way to work!"
"Oh, that's not nice, Iggy. Samuel is a sweetheart."
"Only when you're around; he's an absolute menace otherwise. Thank god for that kiddy crush he has on you, or we'd get no peace."
I make myself comfortable on the couch as Iggy sets the popcorn and drinks on the table, "So, how'd the date go?"
"You tell me because apparently no one in this city has anything else better to do than gossip about me."
Iggy chuckles, "Well, I heard from some people that you guys are already a couple, others say y'all are engaged, and I think word downtown is that you're pregnant."
"WHAT!?"
"Haha, yeah. So I take it that it was a REALLY good date."
I smack her with a throw pillow, and she laughs, "How did you even hear this stuff. You've been sick for a few days now."
"I got people."
"What kind of people?"
She waves off my question, "Don't worry about it? So?"
"So?"
"So…is there going to be a second date or what?"
"No."
"That bad huh?"
"No, it wasn't bad. I had fun….it's just….my brother won't like it."
"Who, Inuyasha? That hypocrite has no room to judge. Over there drooling over Kikyo every chance he gets."
"Kikyo? I thought Inuyasha was fond of Kagome?"
"Oh he is, but he also has a crush on Kikyo. The two are cousins who could pass off as sisters, so it's not like it's a stretch for him."
"Well, Inuyasha wasn't the brother I meant. I was referring to my older brother, Sesshomaru. He….he isn't too fond of humans."
"But he's okay with me, right?"
"Only because you're a girl, and that's more of a begrudging tolerance."
"I see, so if he ever finds out about Bankotsu…."
"I'll be in a private school by the end of the week."
"Geez, protective much."
She flicks on the T.V and begins flipping through the channels, "So, you're not going to see him anymore?"
"That's the plan."
"Hmm."
"Hmm? What's 'hmm'."
"Well, I'm just thinking about how terrible that plan is."
"Terrible? Why is it terrible? That's a good plan."
"Elizabeth, if you were to ask anyone at that school to describe Bankotsu in one word, do you know what the majority of them would say?"
"Arrogant"
"Exact-"
"Obnoxious, Sleazy, vexatious, obtuse, persistent to the point where it's almost stalkerish."
"Damn Elizabeth, tell me how you really feel."
We were quiet for a moment as I cooled off.
"….You know that last one wasn't one word, right?"
I glare at her.
"I'm just saying. Anyway, you clearly understand my point. So, that plan of yours won't work."
"It will work because he has to respect my wishes….I'm serious Iggy, stop laughing."
"I'm sorry. It's just…Banktosu has you in his crosshairs now. He's not going to give up without a fight."
"Oh, yes he will. I will go up to him tomorrow and say, 'Bankotsu, I did enjoy our date, but I can no longer entertain your company."
"So, you're going to break up with Bankotsu?"
"If that is what you want to call it."
"You do know that nobody breaks up with Banktosu, right?"
I turn to face her full on and held out my hand, "Hello, my name is nobody."
Bankotsu glares at the ceiling as he catches the foam ball and throws it back up again, "What kind of name is Taco for a duck. Duck Vador would have been awesome. Besides, I won the damn thing, I should have some say in naming it."
A scowl forms over his face as he tosses the ball back up again, "Maybe Vador Duck…..Taco duck Vador….Taco Vador?" His eyes go wide as he sits up, "DARTH TACO!"
"What?"
He looks over to see Jakotsu leaning against the door frame, "Nothing…just thinking."
"About food?"
"No it's….uh…never mind. What do you want?"
"Well-"
"Get out of the way, nancy boy." Jewel snatches Jakotsu back and stands in his place.
"You rude little bitch!"
She manages to dodge his smack and runs into the room a smug smile still on her face.
"You better be careful! Now that you aren't Bankotsu's whore anymore, I have full clearance to smack every last bit of red out-"
"Blah, blah, blah."
She slams the door in his face and locks it. A string of loud and violent profanities escape Jakotsu and fade away down the hall.
Bankotsu lies back down and begins to toss the ball once more.
"Are you done yet?"
"Excuse me?"
"I didn't stutter. Are you done with that whore of yours?"
"You really should take Jakotsu's advice and watch your mouth. Plus, even if I was "done" with Elizabeth, I wouldn't go back to you."
She sways over to him, "And if I don't?"
He finally looks over to her and forgets his response. She wore a dark blue off the shoulder crop top with matching dark denim jacket and short shirt. There were some intentional rips in her fish net stocking and her black combat boots were polished to perfection. The emerald jewel in her navel dangled and gleamed in the setting sun as she got closer.
"Come on Bankotsu, what does England have that I don't?"
He snaps out of the trance and begins to toss the ball again, "Self-respect." Jewel's hair seems to tremble with rage as she catches the ball before him.
"Don't you miss me?" She asks regaining her composure and pulling out a jet black flask from her boot, "Don't you miss us?" She shakes the mysterious liquid in the flask. He doesn't bother looking at her.
"Not really."
She laughs off his comment as she takes a seat next to him.
"Well, I miss you." She holds the jet black flask over his face, "One more time, and I'll leave you and England alone for good."
"You'll leave us alone regardless."
"Please, I don't like the way we ended before. Let's at least end on a good note." He finally looks over.
"What's in there?"
Jewel flashes a smile.
"Oh, just my special blend of booze. The good stuff. Straight from daddy's cabinet."
Despite himself, Bankotsu smiles.
She lightly kisses him on the lips as she pops the top off the flask.
He brings the flask up to his lips.
A bang sounds, and Jewel screams as Jakotsu snatches her by the hair and drags her out into the hallway. He presses his knee to her throat to pin her down. He twirls the knife expertly in his hands before sawing through her vibrant orange hair.
When finished his stands and holds the large quantity of hair in front of Jewel's shocked silent face.
"Slam a door in my face again, bitch."
He throws the hair at her and walks in to his room, slamming it shut.
A chill ran threw me as I paid the cabby and walked up the flight of steps to the front door. The cool night air calmed me as I searched my coat pocket for the keys. Fortunately, Rin opens the door.
"Good Evening Miss. Elizabeth, how was your afternoon with Iggy?"
I shut the door behind me, and Rin took my coat. I notice a thick layer of my brother scent on her, far heavier than what should be present on a simple servant.
"It was pleasant." I begin, eyeing her carefully, "We watched a crazed burn victim kill people in their sleep. Iggy called it a comedy, but I am beginning to think that she was just being facetious."
Rin laughs as she walks into the kitchen, and I follow silently behind her to tight her loose apron strings. I freeze at the sight of her tag. My eyes then travel to her sleeve where I notice the wrong side of the seam was exposed. I exhaled quietly before shaking way the absurd thoughts running through my head and continue my task of tying her apron.
Because of course that would CLEARLY make him a hypocrite.
She flashes me a bright smile, "Thank you. Are you hungry?"
"No, I ate with Iggy. Is Sesshomaru busy?"
"I believe he is discussing some business with Jaken. Why?"
"Oh, no reason. I suppose I could inquire some other time."
She raises an eyebrow at me before putting away the last of the dishes.
"Very, well."
Rin dries her hands on her apron as I turn to leave.
"Oh, wait, Elizabeth, before you go. Have you heard from Inuyasha. I don't remember seeing him leave, but his room has been empty all day. Normally, he tells me when he goes off somewhere.
My eyes widen slightly.
"Oh…uh…n-no, I haven't, but where ever he is….I'm sure he's perfectly safe."
"You are the worst sister ever."
"I know. I'm sorry….I love you."
"YOU FORGOT ME!"
I sit cross legged in front of my closet watching the still tied up Inuyasha struggle against his restraints.
"What the hell are these scarves made up of anyway!?"
"Look, I did, maybe-sort of-forget you-"
"SORT OF!? I'VE BEEN HERE ALL DAY! LET ME OUT!"
"Only if you promise not to tell Sessesshomaru."
"Like hell I won't! You keep me here-"
I shut the closet door, and immediately he begins to bang on it again.
"I'm not five anymore, Lizzy. The dark doesn't scare me…Lizzy?…..Lizzy?!...ELIZABETH!?"
I cross my arms and lean against the door.
"Calm down, Inuyasha. I haven't left."
We fall silent, and I rest my forehead on my knees.
"You promised me, Lizzy."
"What?"
"Promised me you won't go near Bankotsu again. You gave me your word."
"I did, but that was AFTER, I already gave Bankotsu my word that I would go on one date. ONE! So, technically, I didn't break my promise."
"So keeping you word to Bankotsu is more important than keeping your word to family?"
I close my eyes realizing the gravity of my betrayal in Inuyasha's eyes. I open the door and free him from his restraints.
"You're right, Inuyasha. Go ahead. I won't stop you."
Inuyasha eyes me wearily unsure of how to handle this victory. I step back, and he walks out stopping at the entrance to my room. Taco cheeps softly in his box, and I pull him out, stoking his soft feathers, and sit on the edge of my bed.
"Do you like him?"
"It was one date, Inuyasha."
"DO. YOU. LIKE. HIM?"
I sigh, "I….uh…I don't know. Maybe… a little. I can tolerate him, and I did have fun, but I made a promise to you, and I will keep that promise. I will try my hardest to stay away from him, but he is persistent."
A sneer bleeds over Inuyasha's face as he slams my door shut behind him.
