It was dark inside. Only a little bit of light from outside and the moon above came in through the windows or skylights. Most of the light came from the cars headlights and the flash lights the heavy hitters had.
Kate debated what to do first. If she just walked out there Rick might kill her if those goons didn't do it first.
And if she did the first thing they would do was take her weapon away from her. And if they searched her they would find the Glocks tucked away behind her.
Kate finally made her choice. "Rick take out the two standing with Bracken and then I'm going to step out and get this started." Kate talks into her headset.
It took Rick only a heartbeat to put a round in the first guy just below the left ear. From his position it went down into his neck and lodged itself somewhere around his liver on the right side. He silently dropped to the floor taking his weapon and flash light with him.
This got the attention of the other one as well as Bracken. However Rick was quick, he had planned on putting the next round in this guy's forehead, however he moved just at the last fraction of a second and the round went in the side of his head instead. It then exited out the other side and then into his shoulder where it stopped after breaking his collar bone.
He followed the guy before him and dropped to the ground taking his weapon with him as well as his flash light.
"Clear." Rick tells her.
And Kate steps out and starts walking towards Bracken.
Rick meanwhile quickly adjusts himself on the same skylight so he can see further into the building. He wanted to find those two that had gone into the office area.
"Well, Senator Bracken, fancy meeting you here." Kate is about 20 feet out from him now.
Bracken jerks up from looking at his dead men lying on the ground.
"YOU! Somehow I should have known you would be involved. Are you here to rescue me detective? After all I was being detained against my will."
"Detained? Really? And without cuffls, zip ties or even rope to bind your hands with. Let alone duct tape over your mouth. Is that why you went to the clubhouse of the "Royal Javelins"? A local street gang, because you were detained?" Kate questions.
"You must be mistaken detective, I'm in no way involved with a street gang."
"So all those kids outside are from the local elementary school. Perhaps they are from Greenway Elementary?" Kate asks him. Getting Bracken to flinch just a touch at the mention of that schools name.
"I see you know that school. The school that my daughter goes to. The one you sent your men to pick up and detain." Kate is still mad he went after her baby.
"I heard of a credible threat to that little girl and sent a pair of FBI men to protect her."
"Protect her? As in how you protected your kidneys I presume?" Kate tries another dig.
Bracken's face tightens considerably. "There is some sick bastard out there targeting Senators. I don't suppose you would know anything about that?"
"I'm a homicide detective Senator, not an FBI investigator. My condolences over your kidneys. No doubt you will buy new ones, or perhaps just take them from someone."
Bracken's face gains a few more wrinkles. "Organ theft is illegal detective."
"So is bribery to leap frog over others who have been on the donor list a lot longer than you have." Kate sticks with the kidney assault.
"Rank has its privileges detective."
"So you should get a kidney before the 12 year old little girl that you shoved down the list 3 places behind you and your Senator friends. She'll die all because of your supposed rank." Kate counters having researched who was on the list.
"A Senator/President actions are more important than some 12 year old girl."
Kate smiled inside, Bracken losing his kidneys really was a soft spot. "General Wichita's little girl was a lot younger than that. You seem to like little girls Senator."
"Jack audio and visual of her in arm's length of Bracken, NOW!" Rick tells him. "I think we are just within range."
Jack instantly projects a disguise of the little girl. "Why did I die? I was a good girl."
Bracken jerks around at the sound and backs up against the car looking at her with a shocked face.
"Why did you kill me? I didn't do anything wrong." The little girl asks him.
"NO, You're dead." And Bracken reaches out and his hand goes thru her with only a little resistance. He felt that, Kate could tell by the look on his face.
Jack was quick to adjust the display to prevent Bracken from feeling the membrane of the little girl by very much. Just enough to give a hint of her existence contrary to what he knows. His face betrays him. He felt something when he passed his hand right thru her. It wasn't just a trick using light or mirrors.
"You had my daddy kill me. Just like that lady in the alley." The girls words convict him.
"You both had to die. I can do great things when I'm President. I'm destined to do great things. They were nothing." As Bracken sweeps his arm tossing aside her words.
"She was a nice lady. She fought for justice." The little girl comments.
"JUSTICE?" Bracken spits out the word like it was poison. "That bitch had no understanding of justice or how things work in DC. POWER is all that is important. As President I will wield that power for everyone.
And her bitch of a daughter will not stop me." Bracken screams out.
Espo hears the meaning of that and shoots the lone guy out front square in the throat and out the back. He then moved to pick one of the automatic weapon wielding men near Ryan and Roy.
He had his back to Espo and took the round to the back of his neck and exited out the other side and struck the car.
Roy and Ryan immediately opened up on the group and dropped one of the gang members.
The two that were left were caught in a crossfire with Espo at their backs. They scrambled around the side of the cars to get away from the fire from Roy and Ryan only to have Espo hit one of them in the leg since he moved at the last moment.
"Kill the bitch!" Bracken screams out and runs for the other side of the car.
Rick sees the two behind Bracken come out with hand weapons firing at Kate wildly as fast as they could.
Rick places a round to his left shoulder that spins him around, and since he was left handed he loses control of his weapon which slides across the ground. While he drops to the ground moaning in pain.
Kate has dropped to the ground and starts putting short bursts into the car Bracken has decided to hide behind.
On the third burst from Kate, Bracken screams out in pain. One of the rounds had made it under the car and had struck him in the ankle, forcing him to fall to the ground.
Espo has left the two that are left to Roy and Ryan for the moment and swings around and hits one of the gang members that had burst from the bushes in his hip on the right side. This caused him to accidentally discharge his weapon breaking the glass near were Kate had been hiding earlier.
The other gang member bursting from the bushes has made it to the glass that his buddy had just accidentally broken and jumped.
Just as he half cleared the window Espo's next round caught him in the lower right leg. He screamed in pain as he hit the floor inside the building.
Roy and Ryan had just finished emptying their third clip into the sides of the two cars and were slapping in their final clip for their HP5's, when Espo's next round in their direction struck one of the cars first before lightly wounding one of them.
"Kate there is one behind you on the ground with a weapon." Jill warns her.
Kate lifts up a little and spins and ends up sitting on the floor and empties her clip in his direction. Kate ejects the spent clip and slaps in a new one hearing the gang member on the other side of the car Bracken is hiding behind, still firing in her direction.
Rick however has re-adjusted on him and places a round in his left hip causing him to scream in pain and tumble to the ground. Twisting around on the ground he manages to sit up and point his weapon in Kate's direction.
Rick's next round hits him in his right shoulder causing him to lose control of his weapon and it goes flying a few feet away from him. He ends up on the ground screaming in pain.
Kate begins to empty her next clip in controlled short bursts at the gang member that had entered behind her just as he was shot by Espo.
Roy and Ryan have emptied their last clip of their HP5's and dropped the weapon and pulled out their service weapons and started firing. The two men left were also down to their last clip and were soon empty, while Roy and Ryan still had one clip left plus their backup weapon.
The guy Kate has been shooting at is crawling for the space Kate had recently come from. Her hidey hole.
Rick started putting rounds into the upper level of the car Bracken was hiding behind to keep his head down while Kate dealt with her own problem.
"Espo, he has made it to my hidey hole." Kate talks into the head set.
"On it." Espo starts putting rounds through the outer wall into the space she had been hiding in.
Three rounds later Kate hears a satisfying scream of pain from that area.
"Keep it up Espo. ….. Throw your weapon out." Kate yells at him followed by putting another short burst in his direction to give him some incentive.
Rick meanwhile has kept up putting rounds into the car to keep Bracken's attention while also trying to keep his eyes on the two he just shot.
Roy and Ryan's two have run out of ammunition and have raised their hands. As Roy and Ryan move in covering them with their weapons the mercenary reaches just past deeper behind his back and pulls out a knife.
However Roy has been expecting it and puts a round in that shoulder, forcing him to drop the knife and scream in pain.
"You sure you want to die?" Roy asks them both, in case the other one has ideas.
Two rounds later from Espo. "Alright, alright." Kate hears from her new friend.
"Throw out your weapon." Kate yells at him.
Soon a hand gun comes sliding out across the floor. "Espo you can stop." Kate tells him over the headset. So Espo turns to the two Roy and Ryan are playing with.
"Stand up and get out here." Kate tells him.
"I can't, I've been shot twice in the same leg." He counters.
"Then crawl out I don't care how, just do it. Out here where I can see you." Kate answers back.
Soon Kate can see him crawling on his stomach trailing one of his legs. Kate can still hear Rick pumping rounds into the car.
Kate gets up and staying bent way over to stay low moves over to him and zip ties his arms behind his back.
"What about my leg?" He moans.
"Shut up or I'll shoot the other one." Kate answers back.
"I'm out Kate so I'm coming down." Rick tells her.
Leaving his DSR 1 behind Rick attaches the rope he placed earlier to his harness and slowly eases out into the open skylight for the jump down to the floor below.
Once down he unhooks himself and pulls out his Steyr and goes around the car Bracken has been hiding behind from one end while Kate does the same from the other end.
Together they find Bracken lying on the ground trying to apply pressure to his wounded leg. There is blood on the ground around him.
"It seems we meet again Senator Bracken." Kate greets him.
"You shot me bitch!" Bracken yells at her.
"Then I guess you shouldn't have killed people to get to the top." Kate counters.
"I haven't killed anyone bitch." Bracken is still yelling.
"No you just have people kill for you since you're too big a coward to do it yourself." Kate tells him.
Kate bends down and rolls him over and zip ties his hands behind his back. After she is done they both move over to the two Rick had shot and zip tie their arms too.
"Espo how are we doing?" Rick asks him.
"Roy and Ryan have two in custody. Sounds like you have three plus Bracken. All the others are down. Probably permanently." Espo tell him.
Soon Roy and Ryan with their two show up to add to all the others they have. "Would you like the honors of calling in the cavalry?" Rick asks looking at Roy.
Roy looks down smiling at Bracken lying on the floor all tied up bleeding and hurt, and pulls out his cell phone.
