Chapter 19
A/N: Hey guys, so here's the thing. I am honestly so proud of this story, and its following. I am really just a teenager who loves to write. I am no one special. The fact that so many people have actually taken time out of their day to read this makes me happy. So here we are. The last chapter for now. I may make an epilogue, and maybe a sequel, but for now, our trip is coming to an end. Ok, I will stop being sappy now, and write. Love you all! ~Lexi~
(Oh hey it's future me :O Just kind of ignore this, keep reading, don't hate me, an yeah. There's more now. YAY!)
The next morning was the day when Jack made his U.N.I.T call. I could hear him in his office, angrily trying to remind them that he was the longest living member of Torchwood, and that he very well knew the rules as to the people, aliens, and technology that he needed to keep at the base, and that he believed I fit that description. He told them that I would serve as an additional member to the team. He danced around their obvious mention of my age, and instead turned the conversation toward my ability. The conversation ended with something along the lines of "Yes, I understand that. I will figure something out. Yes. Goodbye."
He stomped out of his office, made a point of closing the door quite abruptly, and then changed his mood as he walked down the steps. Ianto, seeing the mood the captain was in, finished his next batch of coffee in a quicker speed. He delivered it to Jack, who smiled happily at the Tea-boy. This was all followed by a long and eerie silence.
"Well?" I asked, breaking the silence.
"So many rules I had to stretch, so many things that need to change, but yes, they have agreed under some circumstances." He sipped thoughtfully at his drink.
"Well that's good," I smiled. "But what circumstances?"
"Well, your record exists under your name, Jessica Parker, and your parents could hire some "genius" to find you. It would lead them right to Torchwood. Before you say it, yes I retconned them, but if anything leads them to that idea… Anyway, I can't just eliminate your records either. You need an alias. Something unquestionable. You basically need a new identity, not that I want to take yours away from you." He sighed and looked to the ground.
"Ok, well that sucks. I need to reinvent myself. What is something unquestionable?"
"Well, something to give you an alibi." He paused. "You could…" he stopped.
"Could what?"
"You could change it to Harkness… If you want… It would provide an accurate excuse."
I grinned. "I'd love to." I looked at Ianto, and added, "Don't make anyone jealous, though."
The tea-boy's face turned a bright fuchsia, and he walked nonchalantly out of the room. Jack had not quite caught what I had meant. Upon his questioning me, I shrugged it off.
So within a few phone calls, paperwork updates, and working on perfecting a new signature, I became, officially, Jessica Alexandra Harkness. Jack seemed ecstatic with a new official addition to his family. It felt so strange to completely throw out my old name. I felt like I was disowning it and that hurt, but I realized that it was important that I move forward in my life.
I was practically forced to learn my new surname by the number of times that the team told me to recite it.
"And if you are asked your name?" Someone would say.
"Jessica Harkness."
"If someone asks?" Another.
"Jessica Harkness."
"Jess, what if…"
"Jessica Harkness."
I hadn't expected anything to change, but all of a sudden things felt different. I had thought I was part of the team before, but I was starting to feel as though maybe I had just been more of a guest at that point. Now I felt more like a family.
Some nights Jack would pop out to do something. Some nights, the two of us would go to Ianto's. We would eat dinner, and watch movies. It was our partial family. The three of us. I knew no matter what that I was with people who love me.
Weird things would happen, but of course, this is Torchwood. I had started having some dreams that were coming true. I turned out that I had been psychic due to the inhalation of some intergalactic smoke from some space junk. It did however prove to be useful, as we were able to predict and prevent an infestation of an alien species referred to as the 4, 5, 6. I didn't know what would happen if they came, but I had a feeling that I would be glad they didn't.
As for Caleb and I, we grew a lot closer. He wasn't able to stay forever, which broke my heart, as there was still a life in 51st century Boeshane Peninsula for him. The Doctor had to come and collect him one day, leaving my sad. (The Doctor helped me cope. He was also dealing with the loss of Rose. I didn't tell him that when I was psychic I had seen them being reunited.) We found ways to stay in touch, as we had fallen in love with each other, but as everyone says, everything ends. I have a lot of endings waiting for me. Every few months, Landon finds a way to slip himself back through time and visit me for a day.
` Jack has only now told me of his remembering me from when he was younger. He says that it is very confusing. It is also a hazy memory for him because it was so long ago. He told me that the young version of him is so in love with me, but that his current self loves me life family.
Gwen left Torchwood for a while about a year ago, because she had a baby. She visits weekly, and joins us on missions every once and a while, but Anwen, her daughter, and Rhys need her at home.
Tosh and Owen eventually moved in together out of convenience as friends, not necessarily romantically, but they were married three months later.

A MESSAGE TO ALL WEEVILS:
Watch out! I am ready to weevil hunt!
"Come on, JJ," Jack called. He has so many nicknames for me, and this one he chose to annoy me.
I scurried excitedly out of my room and through the hub to the Captain, who sat propped against a wall, holding two guns. He correctly handed one to me, and I traced the familiar handle with my thumb. We headed out to the SUV, hopped in, and headed out to our destination.
I knew the two of us would be family for a long time. Two immortals. I almost felt bad for him, always having to deal with me, but I guess I only hoped he enjoyed having someone who lived.
For now I only have my small family. Jack's own words ring in my head, giving me reassurance.
Being here, I've seen things I never dreamt I'd see.
Loved people I never would have met, had I just stayed where I was.
And I wouldn't change that for the world…
End of Chapter 19
And now I don't know what to say… I don't know what to do either. For the past two months or so, I have done a lot of thinking about this story, and now I have concluded it. I hope you all have enjoyed joining me on this crazy and messed up journey, and I hope you will stay with me. Well, you know the drill. Please review, because it makes my day, and now that this is done, I could use some reviews to read. I love you all so much, and am so thankful for your support. You are all my lovelies for life. Don't worry; this will not be the last of me… Mwahahaha! Alright then… Bye for now! 3 ~Lexi~
(Future me is saying that despite these words there is still more. Don't hate me once again )
