Epilogue: What's To Come
After the worlds had been restored and everything returned to the way it was, Sora, Donald and Goofy were still journeying. Currently they were walking along a single dire road surrounded on either side by endless fields of grass, and azure skies with clouds overhead. Donald and Goofy were back in the classical attire and walked on either side of Sora. "Well, now what do we do?" Donald asked. Hands behind his head, Sora said "We've got to look for Riku and King Mickey. And those three friends of Dexal's- Terra, Aqua and Ventus." "But, uh, where do we start looking for them or that there door to the light?" Goofy wondered aloud. Coming to s stop, the three of them sighed and bent over, having no idea. If Dexal were there he could have given them some words of confidence, the exact answer to that question, or even just a dose of common sense.
But what they got was nothing, another reminder in itself that their ally and friend was gone. Sora heard footsteps ahead of them and looked up, half-expecting it to be Dexal himself. But instead it was... "Pluto?" Donald asked, seeing him as well. They all stood and looked at the dog, who was currently wagging his tail at them. "Hey, Pluto. Where have you been?" Goofy asked. But then Donald took a closer look at the object Pluto was holding in his mouth, and shouted. It was a letter. "Gawrsh, that's the King's seal!" Goofy stated. "Hey, have you seen King Mickey?" Sora asked, reaching out for Pluto. But then he spun around and began running off. Sora, Donald and Goofy all smiled at each, and Sora said "Guy, let's go!" All three of them began chasing after Pluto. "Yaa-hoo!" Goofy called, while Donald said "Oh, boy!" Sora laughed, and as they ran the voice he had heard in the beginning spoke one more.
Remember, Sora. You are the one who will open the door to the light.
While Sora and his friend began a new journey though, more was at work in the worlds. In another world, one that wasn't and shouldn't have been, two figures stood at an altar and looked up. Both of them possessed silver hair, although one was tall and his hair was longer. The shorter one had his head tilted back and eyes closed, breathing deeply. Eventually he exhaled, and looked forward. "Well?" the taller one asked. "It's done. Dexal has faded into the darkness along with Ansem. There is no trace of his Heartless left, meaning that Sora and his are on their own," the other man said. "I see. Perfect. Now, we may begin our plan. Which of our numbers do you believe we should end to Castle Oblivion?" the taller man asked. The other one was quiet, thinking. "In all honesty, the ones I believe we should send would rather be better kept here," he said.
The first man frowned, asking "What do you mean?" "I have spoken with a few of our comrades, and there is reason to believe that some of them will attempt to revolt. Particularly Marluxia and Larxene. If we were to send them to Castle Oblivion along with a few of our more faithful, this could be the perfect chance to eliminate them," the other man explained. The first was quiet, taking this in. He knew that the two of them, particularly Larxene, were not as... committed... as the rest of them were. "Very well then. Who do you suggest we send?" he asked. "Along with those two, I suggest we send Vexen, to oversee the project, along with Zexion, Lexeaus, and Axel," the other man told him. That last one caused him to raise an eyebrow. "Axel? You know as well as I do how volatile he can be," he said.
The other man nodded, smiling. "Exactly. So who would be better to play the role of double-agent?" he asked. That surprised the taller man, and he thought about that. "Hmm... You may be right. But that is on the assumption that he isn't also one of the turncoats," he said. "Right again. Which is why I request that I also be sent to Castle Oblivion," the second man said. That surprised him even more, and he turned to look down at him. "You? You know very well what will happen if you and Sora meet," he said. "I do, and I don't care. If Axel is one of the turncoats, I'll be able to eliminate him as well. And if not, then he will have some assistance," the other man explained. Seeing no fault in this logic, the first man agreed. "As you wish. Pass the orders for Axel along to Saïx, and prepare," he said.
Dexal nodded. "I shall. Until we meet again, Xemnas," he said. Xemnas nodded back, and Dexal left the Altar of Naught. As he walked down the steps he smiled to himself. He had more reason than just that to go to Castle Oblivion. He could feel Riku drifting into the twilight between light and dark, and when he looked into the darkness he saw his former teacher ready to assist the youth. Dexal smiled even wider. All the players and pieces were coming together at a single place, the place he was now assigned to go.
Castle Oblivion.
And now, Redemption has truly met its end. But if this last part is anything to go by, it's not the end of everything! But I have a very important announcement to make: Just as before, I am offering all you, yes you, the chance to vote on a poll on my bio, and choose the title of this story's sequel! I hope you vote, and read the sequel when it appears!
As always, please review! If you flame me Liam Neeson will look for you, he will find you, and he will kill you. (I'm just kidding... or am ?)
