Hello darlings! I saw that there have been some of you that didn't like the idea of rewriting this story and changing things up a bit and that's why I decided that for those of you that love this version so much...I shall continue it, too. I don't want to abandon the story in this stage. The other one will be closer to the plotline of the movie (which I loved and that's the reason why I wanted to rewrite it) I am well aware that I cannot please all of you...so I'll simply write about what inspires me. Enjoy!

Caroline's heart pounded harshly against her ribcage, the sound loud to her own ears. She had no idea what to do now that Katherine had called her out on her pregnancy. It was so terrifying to not know what was about to happen to you, to know that you were in danger, held against your will. Adding into play the fact that she was pregnant and that the woman that was holding her captive knew about it, it was bound to make her crazy.

She didn't know what to do, how to react because she had no idea of what Katherine planned to do to her. The mere fact that she had been kidnapped and used as bait to lure Nik and Stefan out was enough to make her doubt that these people had any compassion left. She couldn't trust Katherine not to harm her and her baby. Maybe if she admitted she was pregnant, then they would simply call Nik and Stefan again and made them do even more terrible stuff under the threat of harming her and the baby.

She had to do anything that was in her power to keep this child safe, to not let her kidnappers have another thing to threaten the guys with. It was too risky to trust that they had a heart.

There was a small part of Caroline's brain that argued that Katherine was a woman, maybe even a mother, and that she wouldn't harm her knowing that she was carrying a child. But she didn't want to risk relying on the thought that Katherine might even help her and treat her nicely or even change her mind...

Even if she did see a bit of concern into Katherine's eyes, Caroline knew well that she wasn't the mastermind behind all this and she didn't know what could happen if Katherine told her boss about her baby. These people were cruel, savage and had shown no mercy when they had tied her up and threatened her family like that. The only thing they wanted was to reach their purpose, no matter what the consequences.

As she was still standing there contemplating, Katherine had snapped out of her frozen stance, slowly approaching the blonde girl that was evidently more than shaken to her bones. The brunette had no idea what to say to Caroline, but the fear that she could clearly see in her blue eyes was making it hard for her to not say anything. She knew exactly what it was like to be frightened and to have to fight for the small life that was growing inside of her.

The story of Katherine Pierce was rather tragic and she had never truly gotten over the loss of her little girl, which had been taken from her arms at birth. She had cried and fought, but she had been weak and they had overpowered her, taking her baby away. She never stopped looking, but it eventually led her to even more pain when she found out that her little girl had not survived. Since that moment, Katherine had become ruthless, a killer, crude and had found every single one of the animals that had been involved in the taking of her daughter and had tortured them one by one and killed them in cold blood for taking away the one good thing about her.

She had had many years to get through the pain, to learn to live with the emptiness inside of her because that kind of thing never really leaves. Now, witnessing Caroline's reaction, all those tragic memories came rushing back and hit her with such force that she needed to hold onto something. She knew what it felt like to not know what might happen to your baby and she wanted to tell Caroline that she understood.

Caroline watched as Katherine leaned onto the doorframe, her eyes closing and her brows furrowing. It was not like the blonde could keep her emotions at bay anymore and the tears started flowing over her cheeks again. The brunette looked down at her again, taking in her broken look and she could practically see herself and she knew that she couldn't remain impassive at seeing the young girl so afraid for her baby's life.

"Caroline...calm down, ok? I'm not going to hurt you." Katherine finally broke the silence, making the girl gaze up at her. Caroline was taken aback by the soft tone in the woman's voice. She wasn't expecting that and she saw it in the brunette's eyes that she was affected by the situation and actually trying to calm her down, to make her see that she wasn't a threat to her, not anymore.

It was weird to see the sudden emotion etched on Katherine's face because just minutes before the woman was completely composed, unfazed by all the situation and with a mask of indifference. Now, Katherine seemed to struggle with her thoughts and Caroline could only hope that it was a good thing and that she could actually get out of this whole mess unharmed and with a healthy pregnancy.

The blonde slowly stoop up from the bathroom floor, making her way hesitatingly towards the bed, surprised to see Katherine come over to help her. The action was both unexpected and slightly comforting and Caroline was grateful for the small sliver of hope that she had since being taken away.

Finally reaching the bed, Caroline sat down, slowly stretching her legs, feeling all of her muscles sore, her body clearly exhausted from all that it had undergone in the last few hours. She was absolutely spent, physically and mentally from the whole ordeal. Her eyes were heavy, but she didn't want to sleep. She was still afraid, her hands protectively resting on her still flat belly.

"You need to rest, Caroline. I promise you that nothing is going to happen. You need to sleep and gain some strength." Katherine told her, still hovering at the side of her bed before sitting back into the chair she had occupied earlier. She saw the physical evidence of Caroline's distress and she had to admit that she worried for her because she was pale and she hadn't gotten any food into her.

Caroline didn't know what to say or how to react, her mind still too fogged up to function properly. She missed feeling safe, she missed the comfort of feeling Nik's strong arms embracing her and she missed the two men that had been her family. Most of all, she craved to be somewhere far away, with both Nik and Stefan, walking around the beach and laughing at their constant bickering. She wanted to see the looks on their faces when she'd tell them that she was pregnant.

A tear slid down her cheek as she imagined that moment. It would surely be unnerving to both of them to hear something like that, but she liked to think that both of them would be more than thrilled. She knew that with their business and all that, it was difficult to even think about something like that and that having a baby was something really important, but it wasn't something that would fit into their lives here in California. So, as they had already decided to leave, Caroline wanted to believe that the news of a baby wouldn't have a negative effect over either Nik or Stefan.

She imagined that, in the best case scenario, Stefan wouldn't have been able to mask his shocked look and he surely would've been thrilled at the idea of being an uncle. He did fit into the cool uncle pattern quite well. Nik, on the other had would conceal his emotions at first and then his eyes would soften, then she would probably ask him to say something and he would take her into his arms and kiss her and all would be wonderful.

It was nice to imagine the good things that could happen – she hoped that it was still possible for that to happen. Caroline's mind had come up with the worst case scenario in which her kidnappers would find out and tell Nik and Stefan and they would go crazy over that, doing anything that they would ask.

She had had a small doubt about what Nik's reaction could be. She had wondered if this could all be maybe too much for him, too big of a jump into emotional territory for him to handle. After all the time spent together, she knew perfectly well that Klaus was broken, he was not one to show emotions and for him to act on them even less likely.

Still, it was because she knew Nik so well that she knew that he was in love with her, he loved her with every ounce of his being and even though he didn't want to show what he was feeling, to her he was always protective, he took care of her and he loved her.

"You're going to see them again. I promise you, but you need to rest and get better. Think of the baby, ok?" Katherine's voice startled Caroline from her wandering thoughts, her words comforting and having a calming effect over her. She really had needed to hear that and oddly enough, she was beginning to have some hope that what Katherine had said was true. She didn't even know why, but she believed Katherine, she needed to believe her, she needed to cling to the slightest of hopes that she'd make it out of this alive and well. Both her and her baby.

This sudden one hundred and eighty degrees shift in Katherine's behaviour was surprising, but Caroline didn't comment on it, knowing that she wouldn't tell her the reason of the change.

The smallest of smiles graced her features – the gesture almost foreign to her by now – as she thought about how this little baby that was growing inside of her was so important and had changed her for the better already. She couldn't explain how much she loved the small being that was slowly growing in her womb. She just hoped she'd get the chance to give birth and enjoy the rest of the growth process.

"Thank you." Caroline whispered, wanting to tell Katherine how grateful she was for the way that she treated her, for not telling her boss about the baby and for making her feel even the slightest bit better.

As soon as she closed her eyes, though, everything collapsed on her, the exhaustion taking over her, sleep finally coming peacefully or at least as peaceful as it could get under the circumstances. Caroline fell asleep with the image of a little blonde curly child running on the beach ahead of her, calling out to Nik and Stefan as they both laughed whilst she watched them from the porch of their beach house...

So I think I'm gonna end this chapter here. I don't feel like going into more drama right now so this dream of Caroline's is the best way that I can finish up the chapter.

I wanted to have Katherine's character a bit more connected to the whole thing that Caroline's going through because deep down, Katherine had been evil and all that, but the one thing that she couldn't control her feelings over was a pregnancy. So, Caroline needed a bit of hope and I think it's quite a nice change.

Anyhow...you tell me what your thoughts are about this and if you like this chapter. The next one will probably be more about what Nik and Stefan are doing and how they are dealing with the situation...

I hope you like this chapter even if it is a bit shorter. Review and let me know what are your thoughts and suggestions.
