Anonymous: Kensi and Deeks are carpooling and their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere.
"You've got to be kidding me."
He leans around the hood of the car, his face stuck in a permanent grimace.
"Definitely not kidding."
"We're stuck?"
"Yeah. We're stuck."
She remains leaned up against the car, her back glued to the passenger side door because that's exactly where he wanted her to be. Deeks insisted on 'fixing' their car troubles himself, even though they both know that Kensi is easily the most qualified between the two of them. But rather than arguing, she just rolled her eyes and obeyed in an effort to keep his ego from getting too bruised.
"Do you actually know what you're doing over there?"
He looks back down to the engine- or whatever the hell it is that he's looking at. There are a lot of wires and cords and he's terrified. But she doesn't need to know that.
"I know what I'm doing, Kens."
"You sure?"
"I'm sure."
"Alright."
She stares ahead at the evening sky in front of her with folded arms and starts tapping her foot against the pavement. They stand in silence for a long moment, until- "Kens."
Her foot stills and she looks at his face, which has two oil smears on it. "Please. For the love of god."
"What?"
He points to her foot. "I'm trying to concentrate. You're not helping."
Under her breath, she mutters, "Yeah, and you need all the help you can get."
"What was that?"
"Nothing," she says. Deeks shakes his head and ignores her. Kensi looks down to her hands and starts playing with a hangnail. "…But if you mess up my car, I'll bengay your shorts."
He chuckles. She smirks. It's equal parts adorable and devious.
"That's a horrible threat, just so you know."
She shrugs, Deeks smiles. Without another word he pulls his shirt over his head and starts wiping the oil from his face. Kensi's eyes widen and she tries so hard not to stare.
"What the hell are you doing?"
He holds out the now grayed tee between two fingers. "I don't have a rag. This will have to suffice."
She peels her eyes off of him and tries to hide her rosy cheeks. "You're an animal."
"Just an animal who's trying to get us home."
Her eyebrows lift. "Last time I checked, we don't live together."
"You know what I mean."
She looks back over towards the front of the car. He's staring right at her. "Do you know what you mean?"
Deeks holds her gaze for a moment before sucking his lips back into his mouth and disappearing behind the hood.
"I'm gonna shut up now."
She smiles toothlessly. "Probably a good idea."
