Oh sweet Jesus an update! Go me, it's my birthday. Go me, it's my birthday. (It's not my birthday)

Bonnibel sat cross-legged on her bed scrolling through pages and pages of music paraphernalia looking for the perfect gift for Marcy. She was screwed, having left all her shopping until after she finished school for the holidays. Her desperation had led her to some random sights she'd never even heard of but they offered stuff she knew Marceline would love. The only problem was the items were either ridiculously overpriced or would take weeks to arrive.

She had three days. She was royally screwed.

Shopping for the others was simple. It was only her mother and Simon and she had picked up their gifts earlier that, deciding to devote the rest of the afternoon to searching for Marcy's present and wallowing in self pity when she came up short.

She visibly jumped when her bedroom door swung open and quickly tried to close the infinite number tabs open on her laptop when none other than Marceline belted into the room. Satisfied that the only thing now on her screen was a video of cats falling asleep in different things, she finally looked up, smiling at her friend. Her girlfriend. Her friend who was also kind of her girlfriend. What were they now anyway?

"Hey Bonnie. What were you doing? You look a little shifty."

She was about to explain before she took in Marcy's appearance. "I could say the same to you." She told her, referring to the way Marcy was rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet, arms held behind her back.

"Uh yeah. Well," she took a seat next to Bonnie before continuing. "You know how we're, uh, together… like a couple… kinda."

Apparently Marcy didn't know what exactly their relationship was either. Strangely Bonnie found comfort in this. "Um, yeah… your point being?"

"Right, so I was wondering…" Marcy wasn't meeting Bonnie's eyes, a sign that she was about to ask her for something.

This may not seem like a huge deal and for Bonnie it really wasn't. But Marcy, for as long or as short as Bonnie had known her, was extremely independent and tremendously stubborn. Which was an awful combination in Bonnibel's eyes.

"-I need you to come with me."

Bonnie raised one eyebrow. She hadn't been expecting that. "Uh… Yeah sure. Where?"

"Oh right. By come with me I mean come with me on a trip. A road trip. To the city." Marcy grinned at her.

"The city! Marceline why on earth would we go there? It's like three days 'til Christmas." She inwardly cringed as she yet again reminded herself of the small amount of time she had. She didn't have time to go off gallivanting to Aaa.

"I have to find something… for your present, you know, for Christmas."

"You left it until three days before Christmas to get me my present?" She didn't dare admit that she did the exact same thing. "Also why would I go? Wouldn't you not want me to be there, so you can surprise me and whatnot?"

"Right… But I…" Marcy scratched the back of her neck nervously. "I also need to get, uh, something for… your Mom."

"What are you really going for, Marcy?" Bonnie questioned, seeing right through her lie.

"Ugh. Fine. I'm going to get Hambo back. And congratulations! You're coming with me." She grabbed Bonnie's arm and started to pull her up off the bed.

"You've got to be kidding me." She exclaimed as she steadied herself on her bedroom floor. She pulled her arm from Marcy's grasp. "Marceline listen to me. Hambo is gone. You need to move on."

Marceline took a deep breath before looking into her eyes, conveying a level of sincerity Bonnie had never seen from her before. Her voice was small, as though she maybe didn't want her to hear. "Bonnie, please. This is really, really, really, really important to me. I need you to do this with me."

She was shocked. Right now Marcy was helpless and Bonnie could tell that nobody had ever seen this side of the dark haired girl before. This was something that only they would share. She pulled her into a tight hug, catching Marceline by surprise.

"Fine. I'm in." She felt Marceline relax before she let go. "When do we leave?"

"Whenever you're ready. It shouldn't take long to get there, rescue Hambo and get back."

"Okay. Just let me grab a thing or two and I'll meet you downstairs."

Marceline nodded, smiling brightly. She went to leave the room before turning back to Bonnie, giving her a quick yet tender kiss on her lips and finally headed downstairs. Bonnie smiled broadly at the uncharacteristic actions from her kinda-girlfriend.

She strode over to her drawer and swapped her current blue shirt for her favourite one, Marcy's band shirt, and threw on a purple jumper over it. Having a quick look in the mirror to make sure the shirt was concealed; she grabbed the rest of her stuff before going to meet Marceline.

"Mom we're going on a rescue mission. Home late. Don't wait up." She announced as the two of them walk out to the car Marcy had borrowed from Simon.

"Wait what?" Her mother was confused. "Do you want dinner?"

"I'm good. See ya later!" She hopped in the passenger side and waved to her mother before Marcy turned the key and drove off towards the city.

The drive was pleasant, both girls not feeling the need to speak. Music played out from the radio at a low volume persistently for about an hour. Bonnie smiled every time she caught Marceline singing along and blushing when she saw she was watching.

"So if we are just going to look for Hambo, does that mean you already have my present?"

Marceline turned her head and smirked. "Why of course I do Bonnibel. Do you really thing I'd leave getting your present until the last minute."

"No. No of course not. Only an idiot would do something like that." She told her, laughing awkwardly. An idiot like me.

"One of those idiots wouldn't be sitting in this very car would they?" Her smirk grew wider as Bonnie shrunk into herself. "Oh my god Bonnibel. I am shocked." Marceline laughed when she felt her kinda-girlfriend smack her arm.

"Stop laughing. I know I was stupid. I messed up." She shook her head. "I'm such an idiot."

Marcy stifled her laughter when she saw how sad Bonnie had become. "Aw don't feel bad Bonnie. You're like, the smartest idiot I know."

"Gee, thanks."

"No but really, it's no big deal. In fact, if we get Hambo back then you won't even need to get me a present."

"Of course I'd still need to get you something Marcy, you're my girlfriend." She insisted before clapping a hand across her mouth. She had let the word slip out before she could stop herself. They hadn't used that word to describe their relationship and she was afraid that saying it prematurely would ruin it.

Slowly she turned to look at Marcy, waiting for her to show some kind of reaction. She exhaled when she saw a coy smile spread across her face.

"You said girlfriend." She sang slowly. Bonnie rolled her eyes. "You have a girlfriend." She sang again, taunting her.

"Yeah, so? You know you have one too, yes?"

"Oh I do, do I?"

"Yes you do. And she's fun, and smart, and just generally awesome to be around." She listed, smiling triumphantly.

"You really don't think highly of yourself or anything do you?"

"Are you saying you disagree?"

"What? No way. It's almost like you took the words right out of my head. But you did forget one."

Bonnie looked at her expectantly. "And what would that be?"

She stiffened slightly and Marceline leaned in a lot closer to her, the raven haired girl's lips just barely brushing her ear as she whispered. "Incredibly sexy."

Bonnie cheeks flared red as Marceline moved back to her side of the car, laughing at the reaction she got from her girlfriend. Bonnie rolled down the window slightly, suddenly feeling very flustered. As she looked anywhere but in Marceline's direction she saw a sign that told them they were less than fifteen minutes away from Aaa.

Glancing towards Marcy she saw that she too had noticed the sign. All hint of laughter had disappeared from her face replaced with something Bonnie wasn't used to seeing the other display; worry. She reached over and took her hand, giving it a gentle squeeze.

"We'll find him Marcy. I promise."
