Tobias POV
"I can take one of the Erudite's jeeps," I suggest, "We can pretend we're Erudites, and they hopefully won't notice us." Andrew rejects the idea, fearing for my safety. Marcus gives a concerned look, but I know too well that it's fake.
"I've been going to Dauntless to train," I confess. Andrew's eyes widen in surprise, and Marcus follows, obviously for show. Andrew hesitates, but I remind him, "The entire faction's and Dauntless' safety is at stake right now. The Dauntless wouldn't be doing this willingly." He accepts, especially I bring up others' safety.
I wait until the sky becomes dark, and the shootings starts to stop. I open the door quietly and run behind a wall. I find a Dauntless laughing while getting out of his jeep, Eric. He must've forced the Dauntless to attack. He continues walking next to a house. I'm another house down, and my fingers curl into a fist. When he finally reaches to the house I'm hiding behind, I catch him by surprise and punch him right in the face. I punch him hard enough to satisfy my anger. He immediately passes out. I kick him, checking if he's out. He's unconscious.
I take his black jacket and pull it over my gray shirt. Just in case an Erudite sees me driving. I can't have him see me with a gray shirt. It'll be too suspicious. I should change pants with him just in case an Erudite actually stops me….I'll risk it.
I knock on the door with their exact combination. The door swings open, and Andrew gasps at the sight of Eric's jacket. Then he recollects himself.
I look around, making sure no one's watching, and motion the Abnegation into the jeep. Some of them have to squish into the jeep, hiding at the floor of the jeep.
I drive all of us to the Amity faction. Luckily no Erudite stops or suspects us. Survival really is all about luck. After we cross Amity's fences, I hear a collection of relieved sighs.
Past the fences, there are vegetables, and people of Amity are there picking the fruits. I find a former Abnegation member, Robert, picking apples and ask him to take us to Johana Reyes. Robert easily agrees after hearing that our lives are in danger, including his family.
We reach the lobby of the Amity Headquarters, and Robert tells us to wait. He goes to the woman at the front desk and talks to her. The woman makes a phone call. I look around and see plenty of red; everyone is wearing something red. The red reminds me of the murdered Abnegation's blood. Despite all the red, everyone is talking peacefully and is happy, almost as if they're drunk. It really is peaceful here. This is the only place where the war didn't reach. It's surprising that there's actually a place like this.
Johana walks into the lobby and bows, greeting Marcus and Andrew. She takes them to the side and says something inaudible. When she returns, she says, "Of course we'll let you stay in here, but when the Erudite comes, you will have to hide."
We murmur our thanks. She continues, "The Erudite is an extremely resourceful partner of ours, so we cannot destroy the peace in our faction to fight them. I'm sorry." Something in me deflates. Of course they wouldn't destroy their peace. Should I go to the Candor faction…? I immediately push the thought out. They completely rely on the Erudite.
After she leads us down a couple hallways, she reaches the Abnegation's temporary room. "Unfortunately you will have to share a room, but I hope it will do. Now if you will excuse me, I have work to complete."
She walks out, and I follow. Before we reach the lobby, she stops and turns to me. "Is there anything else I can help you with?"
I suck in a breath. "You need to help fight back."
"I've already told you my reasons for the Amity not fighting back-" I cut her off. "Is that reason really big enough to excuse the Erudite destroying an entire faction and killing off the Divergents?"
She's taken aback and tries to find something to say. "I'll see what I can do."
Tris POV
The Dauntless soldiers take me to the Erudite Headquarters. They bring me to the lady at the front desk under the giant portrait of Jeanine. She looks up and gives me a bored expression. Then she picks up the phone and calls someone over.
The person who comes over can possibly be the last person I want to be with right now. Peter. "Hey, Stiff."
The Dauntless soldiers set me down and grunt. Then they leave.
Peter has a gun in his hand. "Walk, Stiff."
Well, I was planning on updating twice, but I may have gotten a little distracted... Sorry! My break's almost over, so I'm even lazier. Anyways, thank you for all those nice reviews! They smacked a smile on my face. :)
