*whispers* I'm so sorry I love you all please forgive me.
"Marceline."
"…"
"Marcy?"
"…"
"Oh for floops sake Marceline pay attention to me!"
"Hmm? Stop distracting me Bonnie I'm looking." She said as she stopped walking and turned towards the other girl.
They stood on one of the many busy streets of the city. Business men and women brushed past them in their haste to return to their jobs, not paying any mind to two teens who stuck out like sore thumbs.
"That's just it Marcy, we've been looking for the past three hours. You sure you have no other information about this shop?"
Marcy sighed dejectedly. "Nope. Just that it's somewhere in this maze of a place." She moved to lean against the wall of one of the many giant office buildings. The whole thing seemed to be made of glass and was completely identical to the many other buildings they'd passed in their search. "Also either we've been here before or this whole city just looks the same."
"We definitely haven't been here before. This building is the head offices for Green Apple Ltd." Bonnie informed her, pointing to the building they were currently leaning on.
"Oh really? How'd you know that?"
"It's the company my Dad works for." She gave her an awkward smile.
"Oh… I see. Maybe we should mo-"
"Oh my glob Marcy look!" She interrupted, grabbing her girlfriend's shoulders and spinning around to look the other way.
"Wow hey Bonnie what the- oh hey look a Starbucks!"
"Not the Starbucks Marcy, look. Over there." She pointed across the street to one person in particular. It was a woman but that's not why she stood out. It was her clothes. She was wearing a brown cloak which, in this city was not what most people wore. It was enough to make her stick out to the two girls.
"What do you think Bonnie?"
"Well statistically speaking there's an extremely low chance that she can lead us to the store we're looking for but..."
"But?"
"It is literally the only lead we have and if the store is as weird as you described then she'd fit in there pretty well wouldn't you think?"
"I would. Let's go." Marceline set off towards the odd woman.
"Okay but keep your distance. We don't her to spot us and think we're creeps."
"We're following a strange woman through a strange city, Bonnie. We are creeps."
"That's… quite true."
They followed close, but not too close, behind the woman; turning when she turned, crossing when she crossed. They didn't need to follow her long however. Not five minutes after they'd started the woman turned up a smaller, dingier street and entered a store there. Marceline approached it slowly before reading the name. 'Maja's Magical Morsels' was written in wine coloured letters above the door. The store itself seemed quite old; the paint outside was peeling and a fine layer of dust be seen all around the window display.
"This is it Bonnie."
"I can't believe that worked."
"Me neither. Now all we need to do is get Hambo back. Come on." She grabbed Bonnie by the arm and walked into the store.
Inside was quite possibly the most peculiar store Bonnie had ever seen. It was bigger than it looked from outside, with piles of crap lying everywhere (well it looked like crap to her; broken toys, ripped paintings). She followed close behind Marcy, afraid she'd get lost in the rubbish. On every wall sat shelves filled to the brim with different objects, each one collecting an impressive amount of dust.
"Where'd she go?" Marcy whispered back to Bonnie.
"I'm not sure? Is there like a desk thing or something?"
"I can't see any-"
"Eh hem! Can I help you?!"
"HOLY SHI-"Marcy screeched before Bonnie's hand clasped over mouth. They both turned to the right to where the voice had come from.
There was indeed a desk, the only thing in the shop that was free from any dusty clutter. Behind it stood the woman they'd followed, presumably the owner of the voice. Getting a better look at her, Bonnie could see she wasn't as old as she's once thought maybe only a few years older than herself.
"Uh… Hello. Me and my friend here" she started, removing her hand from Marcy's mouth, "are looking for something. Something we think you have. And you might be?"
"Maja, and I have many things here, as you can see." She gestured around the shop. "You'll have to be specific."
"It's Hambo. My teddy bear." Marcy told her. "My douche of an ex stole him and I know he brought it here."
Maja looked up in thought leaving the two teens waiting with bated breath. "I do recall there being an Ash in my store some time ago. Bit of wenis?"
"You betcha." Bonnie answered, a little too quickly. She felt Marceline smirk beside her and couldn't refrain from giving her a small nudge in the ribs.
"Did he have Hambo?" Marcy pressed.
"Well if this-"she bend behind the wooden desk and retrieved an old, tattered, faded tedding bear, plopping it down on top of the counter. "-is a Hambo then yes this is what he came in with."
Marceline gasped, lunging forward to grab the bear. Maja was faster however and scooped it back up into her arms. "No touching the merchandise."
"That's what a Hambo is? That's what we came here for?" Bonnie questioned before she could stop herself. It seemed like a valid question to her though. "I'm sorry but Marcy is this really that important to you?"
"It is. It really really really really really really is." She pleaded, turning back to look at her girlfriend.
Bonnie nodded in understanding before turning her attention to the shop keep. "How much?" If it was important to Marcy, it was important to her.
"Excuse me?"
"For the bear-"
"Hambo." Marceline corrected.
"Yeah, Hambo. How much is he?"
"Ha. HA HA HA! This thing isn't for sale."
"What?! It wasn't even Ash's to sell. Technically it's still Marcy's."
"Yeah, technically he's still mine."
"Oh yeah? Prove it."
"What? Well I…"
"Exactly. You can't. I, on the other hand, have proof that this bear was brought into me by that wenis and that I gave said wenis a nice amount of cash for it. It is ridiculously rare after all." She held out a white piece of paper which Bonnie took.
It was all there. The name of the seller, the price, a description of the item and two signatures; one from Ash and one from Maja. "She's right Marcy. It's all here. Legally, she owns Hambo." She showed the paper to the other girl who gave it a quick read before turning back to Maja.
"Alright. So what'll it take to get Hambo back?"
"I told you he's not for sale."
"I know that. I wanna know what you want for him?" She pressed. Maja's face contorted into something resembling a smile giving Bonnie a bad feeling about the whole thing.
"Exactly how valuable is he to you?" She questioned.
"Ha. It seems you've figured it out then, Pinkie." She announced. Bonnie frowned.
"Figured what out? The price? What does she mean, Bonnie?"
She sighed. "It would appear… that the more desperate you are to get Hambo back… the more valuable he becomes to her."
"…So what you're saying is…"
"We can't get him back, Marce. She's not going to give in."
"Bingo! Double points for you Pinkie. You're clearly the more intelligent of the two of you."
"You shut your mouth!" Marceline screamed, rage clouding her judgement. She lunged at the woman behind the desk once again, only to be stopped by Bonnibel.
"Marceline there's nothing we can do. Hitting her isn't going to help."
"It might get Hambo back."
"We are not stealing. That's where I draw the line. You're not like that either."
She struggled for a little longer before giving in, her shoulders slumping in defeat. "Let's just go, Bonnie." She said dejectedly. It broke Bonnibel's heart to see her so upset. She shot Maja a dirty look before following close behind Marceline as she made her way out of the shop.
"I'm sorry, Marcy." Bonnie told her, taking her girlfriend's hand and giving it a light squeeze. They walked slowly back the way they'd come. Bonnie suggested they go get a Starbucks before heading home. Marceline hadn't actually agreed, but since she didn't decline either Bonnie decided to just guide the two of them towards the coffee shop.
It was pretty busy inside, mostly full of business people on break. There was actually platy of seats, most people getting their beverage to go. Marceline slumped off towards a table for two while Bonnie stood in line to order their drinks.
"Mocha with cream, four sugars for you." She placed it in front of the other girl who had decided that using the table as a head rest was a good idea. Slowly raising her head, she quietly thanked her before taking a sip of the drink.
"Come on Marcy, cheer up. Please?" She pouted.
"I'm sorry Bonnie. I'm just majorly bummed. We came all the way here and now we're gunna leave with nothing. It sucks."
"I know. What a bitch."
Marceline was kinda socked at her girlfriend's use of such language. But she agreed. Maja was a bitch.
The sat there for another little while, thinking; Marcy about Hambo and Bonnibel about getting him back. There has to be something, anything she'd want in exchange. But what? What could we-
"Hey I'm just going to the bathroom, I'll be back in sec." Bonnie nodded in recognition, watching absently as Marcy walked away from the table. What was I saying? Oh yeah! What would she want? Something valuable, really valuable. Something one of a kind. Something like-
"Oh my glob that's it!"
