Tobias POV
When the jeeps first touch the grounds of Erudite, we are met with some shooting. We open the windows halfway and shoot. I hear some popping sounds and cries of pain. We hit some Dauntless and cringe. I notice some running away; they must be Divergent.
We eventually reach the Erudite Headquarters and invade them. There are Dauntless standing in front of us, but we just aim and shoot their legs. They groan but fall. At that, we all get out of the jeeps and take their guns away. They can't exactly harm us now. Where's Tris?
Tris POV
I'm still breathing. Not deeply; not enough to satisfy, but breathing. Peter pushes my eyelids over my eyes. Does he know I'm not dead? Does Jeanine? Can she see me breathing?
"Take the body to the lab," Jeanine says, "The autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon."
"All right," Peter replies.
Peter pushes the table forward. I hear some quiet mutters from Erudite bystanders. My hand falls off the table and smacks the wall. I feel some pain, but I still can't move my fingers no matter how much I try.
When we turn, it's completely silent. I guess no one's here. Peter continues walking, then turns. He suddenly picks up his pace, almost sprinting down the next corridor, and stops abruptly. Why?
Peter sits me up, puts my arms around his neck, and carries me, piggyback style. My head falls on his shoulder.
"For someone small, you're heavy, Stiff," he quietly mutters. He knows I'm awake.
He kicks the table away. I hear a series of beeps, and a slideāa locked door, opening. Then he continues running.
I hear a couple of shouts in the hallway. "Hey, wait!" shouts a male voice.
Peter, probably, shoots him.
I hear screams, and Peter runs even faster.
Peter stops. Just as he opens another door, I open my eyes. He charges through the door. I tighten my grasp around him, telling him I'm awake. "Why did you save me?" I weakly ask.
He huffs a breath and says, "I still owe you from that 'incident.'" The chasm incident. The one Al helped with.
That's when I understand that Peter will only help if he "owes" you one.
He opens another door. The room is almost empty, except for a row of empty trash cans along one wall and a square metal door large enough for one of the cans to fit through it along the other wall.
"Where are we?" I ask. There is a row of trash cans along the wall and a square metal door large enough for one of the cans to fit through it along the other wall.
"This is the trash incinerator," says Peter, slapping the square door. "I turned it off. It'll take us to the alley."
"Not yet," I say, "There's something important here."
He groans and protests a little, but I ignore him. He gives a defeated sigh and says, "Hold on." For a moment, I think he's going to help me, but this is Peter. He gives me his jacket and shoes. Before he slides into the trash chute, he says, "If you want to die, be my guest."
I hear some stomping going down the hall and push some trash in front of the door, keeping them from entering. I stack up the remaining trash cans and climb up the air vents.
I hear them opening the doors, but I'm already long gone. They think I went down the trash chute with Peter.
It really is lucky the Erudites are clean freaks. It's not as dusty as I expected up here, making this trip easier than I expected.
Tobias POV
Inside the Erudite Headquarters, we're met with some shootings. Some of us go down, including Andrew. He groans. I stop to help him, but he motions me to continue with the mission. "Go!"
I focus on those with weapons and shoot their legs. Some of the others follow my lead, making the job go faster. Of course a lot of us fall at the same time. I'm hoping they're just injured.
Eventually the blank faced, black clothed soldiers all fall, and the others surrender. I head towards Andrew, but stop a few steps away. He's dead.
I head towards the woman at the reception. "Take me to the computers." I need to stop Jeanine's soldiers and the video may be there.
