But being on the run with a demon of royal blood (aka spoiled) made Inuyasha consider turning his ass in on many, many occasions.
The hanyou sighed when he looked at the sky. It was close to midday but the thick clouds made it seem much later. It was going to rain which meant he had to go gather wood or go look for a secluded area for them to sleep for the night (anywhere in town was too risky, even stables even though Sesshomaru wouldn't have allowed that anyway).
Sesshomaru, grouchy from sleeping uncomfortably, glared at the hanyou. "Fetch me breakfast"
Inuyasha looked him up & down slowly, one eyebrow raised. "Fetch your own, your ex-majesty"
The inuyoukai's eyes narrowed dangerously. From time to time he forgot he'd run away from his title, his duties. He liked not having the responsibilities that came with being a prince but every once in a while...
The hanyou stretched. "I'm going to hunt but only for myself. If you want something you'd better catch it on your own"
"How dare you talk to me that way"
"Lookit, we ain't in the palace no more, sweetheart. Out here, if you wait for someone to feed you, you will starve. You might as well start working for what you want"
That wasn't something the demon liked hearing but he admitted (only to himself, of course) that his...beau was right. There weren't servants out here & Inuyasha had fought for his own survival so he had too much pride to take care of someone. He stood slowly, forcing his face to remain emotionless as his back popped & his joints ached. He hoped they found somewhere comfortable to sleep tonight.
Sesshomaru mimicked the slow, careful footsteps Inuyasha took & watched those cute furry ears swivel back & forth constantly. It was amazing after all this time the inuyoukai never really had the urge to touch them until now...matter of fact he hadn't even really pay attention to them at all-
The demon's train of thought was derailed when the hanyou stopped suddenly & nodded in the direction of a grazing elk. It was a hefty animal; Sesshomaru could already feel his mouth watering.
Inuyasha touched his arm to get his attention. "When dealing with an animal this big" he whispered so softly it was almost like he wasn't even speaking, "Just go for the throat. Even if you know you can take them if they start fighting back. The goal is to just get dinner ready as soon as poss-"
The half breed narrowed his eyes & slid his glare over to his partner who was rubbing his ears, a look of curiosity etched into his beautiful features. While he did enjoy the attention the fact that Sesshomaru was doing it was kinda unnerving...not to mention this was definitely not the time.
"Sessh, can you not...?"
Sesshomaru paused before rubbing the furry appendages a few more times then dropped his hands. "You were saying?"
Inuyasha exhaled. "Just keep in mind to go for the throat. Make it a quick kill so we can be out of her-"
"If one were to scratch behind your ears would your leg twitch as if possessed?" the inuyoukai asked calmly.
"I-what? The hell? Sessh, focus, would you?! Jesus..."
"It is only a question"
The half breed clenched his hands into fists & took a few deep breaths. "Do you wanna eat or not?"
"Of course I do
"Then shut up!"
It was then they both noticed the elk's head raised. They tensed, hoping & praying it did not run away. It's been slim pickings as of late; the rabbits were slender & the squirrels looked a little sick & they needed a good meal. After a few moments then elk went back to grazing & they relaxed, exhaling slowly.
Inuyasha felt his ears being fondled again & he waved the hands away, annoyed. "Seriously, cut it out"
Sesshomaru looked very innocent as he laced his fingers back together. "When was the last time you checked for ticks in your ears?"
.
...
Sesshomaru sighed inaudibly as he watched the rabbits roast on their spits. He'd taken a liking to cooked meat now especially since there weren't any seasonings out here. He slowly glanced over at Inuyasha who hadn't said a word since they got back from their hunt. His lips & hands were still balled up though & his eyes were hard which pretty much said this wasn't the time but...
"Maybe if you hadn't yelled we would've been able to get that elk-"
"No, no, no. You sit over there in silence & enjoy the consequences of your talking! This is what happens when you don't listen! We eat puny little rabbits for dinner when we could've had a hunky piece of elk ass!"
Sesshomaru grimaced. "You eat that part of the elk?"
The half breed threw his hands in the air & stood before stomping into the cave he discovered for them to sleep tonight.
The demon smirked to himself, liking that he was able to get such a reaction then he noticed the extra rabbit on the spit. Ah yes. He was most certainly going to enjoy the consequences of his talking.
