To say things were getting messy were an understatement. She put her guard up and Troy felt like he was walking on eggshells around her. After work she would come home and just go to bed. Most nights she stayed working late to avoid him. He was going to go with her to her appt today but she wanted to go alone, starting a fight. He was in a mess of emotions.
She walked in the door after her first chemo session. She found him sitting on the couch reading the paper.
"How was it?" He asked sitting there tight jawed.
"Fine." She said walking past the mirror and looking at the bandage over her chest. She choked back a sob staring at that ugly scar being reopened.
"Gabriella." He said standing up. She looked away, throwing her purse on the counter.
"What?" She said throwing her hands on her hips.
"You have to talk to me." He said. "I'm sorry about the fight this morning."
"You don't understand!" She screamed at him. He stood there accepting her fight. "I put up my bitch guard so that people don't like me, so when I die they won't feel sorry for me." She said standing there yelling at him with all her might.
"Stop saying you're going to die." He shouted back at her. "Stop it!" He said closing in on her.
"This is why we should have never happened. I don't want you to suffer with me." She said turning around.
"You are not giving up on us, this." He said grabbing her arm. She looked at him clenching her teeth.
"Let me go." She said eyes filling with tears. He looked down in her eyes, letting go realising she gets bruises easily. Then things in his head began to add up making his suspicions increase.
"Gabriella..." He started. "Have you had cancer when you were younger?" He asked her. He thought about how she told him she was infertile, how she bruised easily, the scar under her clavicle. It made sense to him that she had the huge attitude so people would have to hate her so when she died they wouldn't be sad. He looked at her as tears poured down her face.
"Yeah." She said. "I was in remission for twelve years." She sobbed throwing herself at him holding him. He kissed the top of her head feeling all the pressure of the world on her.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked her. She frowned snuggling against his chest closer.
"I didn't want anyone else to know." She said. He sighed closing his eyes.
Sharpay was in the hospital next to her best friend as she was lying in the chair during her chemo treatment. Sharpay bought her a million magazines, sitting next to her and even eating some cupcakes. Gabriella finally spoke up.
"Remember the first time we met?" Gabriella said looking down at the cupcakes. They were pink frosted making Sharpay smiled and laugh to herself.
"How could I forget that?"
She barged into the bakery crying. Gabriella looked up from the cash register seeing the blonde sob infront of her. Gabriella looked afraid.
"Can I have a dozen cupcakes. Pink frosted." She cried. Gabriella scrambled running over and getting a box, filling it with 12 pink cupcakes. The blonde was still crying, as she dug through her purse. Gabriella gave her the box as the blonde threw 40 dollars at her sitting down. Gabriella looked confused seeing her sit down at the table shoving a cupcake in her mouth. Gabriella looked at a worker as she walked out from behind the counter, walking over to the blonde sobbing. She looked up, mascara running down her face.
"Uh..." Gabriella said looking down at her.
"I'll never fall in love again!" She screamed eating another cupcake. Gabriella hesitated.
"Uh... Word of the wise. You'll be able to fall in love again." She said sitting down at the table with her. The blonde softened. "He just doesn't realize what he missed out on." She offered with a smile.
"You're cupcakes are really good." She said said giggling.
"Thank you." Gabriella said.
"I'm Sharpay."
"Gabriella."
"He was such a dick." Sharpay said looking at Gabriella who was staring at the mirror.
"I'm gonna lose my hair soon." She said with tears in her eyes. Sharpay bit her lip grabbing her hand.
"You're going to look beautiful." She said with a smile. Gabriella ran her hands through her hair beginning to cry.
"I never thought I'd look like that again." She said feeling Sharpay hug her immediately. Gabriella sobbed into her shoulder.
"Don't talk like that." She said pulling back and wiping her tears away. Gabriella looked at her bestfriend.
"Thank you for being my best friend." She said hugging her.
Gabriella was trying on dresses to go to Sharpay's gala with her and her family. Gabriella was beyond excited but had no idea what to wear. The brunette stepped out in a strapless red dress accompanied with a frown. Sharpay's smile fell when she saw her frown.
"You don't like it?" She asked. Gabriella clenched her jaw to keep from crying.
"No I do. I just have a scar I don't like." She said staring at it from the mirror. Sharpay let out a soft laugh.
"It's not like you had cancer or something." She said smiling. Gabriella let a tear slip running back into the changing room. Sharpay followed knocking on the door. "Ella." She said softly. "I didn't mean to." She said knocking on the door. Gabriella looked at her scar wiping her tears.
"Sharpay?" She asked taking it off.
"Yes honey?" She asked her.
"Don't tell anyone please?" She said opening the door and handing her the dress. Sharpay nodded giving her a hug.
Things started to get worse for her when she found herself in front of the mirror. She stood in the bathroom looking at her naked body. Her weight just dropped 15 pounds in the matter of two weeks. Gabriella frowned looking at every aspect of her body. A tear rolled down her face as she stared at the body that she never wanted to see again. She slowly put her clothes on, walking into the bedroom and lying in bed. She frowned looking outside and seeing how nice the May weather was. She could remember how nice it was to just go outside and to enjoy the warm sun hit her body. There was a knock on the door and Mackenzie ran in. Gabriella smiled seeing her little bestfriend get in bed with her.
Gabriella was lying in bed with Mackenzie talking about things when Troy walked in. He smiled at Gabriella's brother.
"Can we go play?" She asked grabbing her hand. Gabriella just simply smiled.
"Can we play tomorrow?" She asked. Tears begin to form in Gabriella's eyes as Mackenzie was searching for answers. She looked at Mark. He frowned as well.
"I can't play with you for a while." She started. "I'm really sick, my insides don't agree with me." She said crying. Mackenzie frowned.
"Auntie El, why are you crying?" She asked wiping away her tears.
"Because I love you and I'm sorry." She said kissing her cheek. Troy had to turn away and leave while the three remained in the bedroom. Mark sat on the bed with her too.
