Mount Justice Medical Bay
"It's insane Batman," The voice of a concerned Superman states as the two heroes stare at the unconscious form of William Grayson.
"Just tell me what you see Clark. We need to know how much of his body is still broken," Replies the dark voice of Gotham's Knight.
Letting out a sigh, the extra-terrestrial Super Hero uses his x-ray vision to study the unconscious form lying on the medical bed.
"Hmmm, I see a lot Bruce. This kid's gone through Hell and back. When I look at him, I see you. The broken bones that have healed on their own, the small fractures that are still healing, and scarred tissue everywhere."
Nodding his head, Batman stares at the boys face. It looks so much Dick. But he couldn't be related, could he? Wasn't Dick the last Grayson? Turning around, the Dark Knight begins to head towards the door.
"Hey, where are you going?" Superman calls out to his friend.
"Too find out who he is. Someone in Gotham knows something, I'm sure of it."
Superman sighs as he is left alone with the young teen. He awkwardly stands around before deciding he should leave. As he walks through the door the hero stops as Robin is standing before him.
"Oh, hey Supes! I was just coming to check up on our sleeping friend. How is he?" The young vigilante asks eagerly.
The older hero smiles kindly at the young boy and gives him a nod before replying.
"Well, he's stable and still out. I'm not sure when he'll wake up, but it might be best if someone is here to make sure he doesn't freak out ok?"
Flashing a grin, the young bird slips past the Boy Scout and sits beside the sleeping teen.
In the Bowery of Gotham, Batman has found the trail he's been searching for. Club Indigo is supposedly the local hang out for teens, and also where one, William Grayson has said to be living. Slipping into the dark club, a disguised Bruce Wayne makes his way to the bar and orders water. The atmosphere of the club is tense as the heavy music resounds from large speakers. The people grind and press one another on the dance floor, but none of that matters to the Batman.
"So, you knew or something mister?" The bar tender asks as he passes a glass of water to the man.
"Yeah, I heard this place was a cool hang. I'm actually looking for an old buddy of mine, we used to run together back in New York. Someone said he'd be here," The disguised Batman states.
"Oh? Well what's his name? Maybe I can help you."
With a casual smile Bruce nods his head.
"Yeah sure, his name's Will. William Grayson. You know him?"
The bartender's eyebrows perk up at the recognition of the name and just nods.
"Yeah, he has a band that plays a few days every week here. Call themselves The Black Birds or something. He's been staying upstairs and helps me work the bar too. He's a good kid, and a good friend too. Though he likes to keep to himself."
Nodding his head Bruce holds out his hand for a shake.
"Thanks, if you see him, tell him Rob stopped by looking for him ok?"
"Yeah, sure thing," The bar tender replies and shakes he disguised vigilantes hand.
As the Batman walks out of the club he frowns to himself. So he is a Grayson, but how I he related to Dick. And furthermore, what happened to him. Maybe I need to have a chat with Richard.
Back at the Med Bay, William stirs from his sleep. He feels something soft against him. Is he laying on a bed? Where is he? Emerald eyes shoot open wide as he leaps off of the bed and onto the cold tiled floor. A surprised yelp follows as a young female garbed in green pulls an arrow from her quiver and points it straight at him. Moving on instinct, William flings himself at the masked girl and pins her underneath him, gripping her hands he holds them above her head, straddling her hips he growls and stares at her.
"You have 10 seconds to tell me where I am, and who the hell you are before I break fingers," he angrily speaks.
The girl pinned beneath him smirks as she lifts her legs up and wraps them around his neck, then pulling him to the ground switches their positions so that she's straddling his waist and points an arrow to his throat.
"First all, its rude to jump a girl like that without any introductions, secondly and not that I don't mind, you need clothes. And as for who I am, the names Artemis, and you're in Mount Justice, H.Q. of Young Justice."
The archress' replies then quickly jumps to her feet, leaving the teen male speechless. With a blink and cautiousness about him, William slowly gets up and finally realizes he's only wearing his boxers. Trying to control his urge to blush he growls and turns his head away.
"Batman brought me here?" He questions the girl.
"Uhhh Duh. But only thanks t-"
"It was my idea," a voice cuts in from behind Artemis.
Turning his head, William finds himself staring into a pair of black shades, hiding the face of his younger cousin, Dick Grayson. Breathing a small sigh of relief inwardly, William proceeds to look around the medical room closer.
"Where are my clothes?" he asked.
"Why? I think you look better like this, personally," Artemis says with a sly grin on her face.
William stares at her then decides to play along.
'Well, it wouldn't be fair for me to not see what you look like under that costume of yours then would it?"
"Mmmm, maybe you will see what's under it sometime, but only if you're a good boy," With a wink, the sultry Archer slips past Robin and out the door.
Robin stands abit dumbfounded at how easily this guy could casualy flirt with someone as deadly as his friend and not have gotten an arrow through him. Then again, she was flirting back.
"Oooookay.. Anyways, your clothes are being washed, no offense dude, but they smelled bad and had a few holes in them. So in the meantime," The Boy Wonder tosses a small duffle bag to the bed.
"You can wear these."
With a frown, William opens the duffle and pulls out a pair of black loose fitting jeans and nods to himself as he slips them on. Then he pulls out the long sleeved purple shirt and slips it over his head. Then he put on the clean pair of socks and a pair of black and white classic chucks. After he was dressed he looked over to his cousin and gave him a nod.
"Look, thanks… You know, for helping me and taking me in like this, but…"
"Look, you don't have to explain yourself to me. I can tell you've had it pretty rough, but what's important is that you keep on. You told Batman and I that you keep fighting. You keep helping people, and I may not know the reason, but it drives you. We're similar you know? Me, you and Batman, we all fight to help people because of what drives us."
"Dicky, you're the reason I fight. The reason I throw myself at criminals and crooks," William thought.
"Ok… I'll try this your way, Robin. Help me. Train me to help people like you and Batman do. I don't care about glory and recognition, I'm no hero, but I want to help."
With a smirk etched on his face, the young vigilante holds his hand out to the older teen. As the two grasped hands and shook, they could not imagine the bond they were creating.
"Ok, but I'm going to need a name to call you by. Unless you just want to be known as That Guy," Robin teases.
With a smirk, William nods his head, but inside he holds his composure, not wanting to tell his cousin the truth.
"Black Bird. You're a Robin, and I'm a Black Bird."
The Batcave
The dark clad Vigilante stares at the computer monitor and frowns. His eyes narrowing as at the results of the DNA test he's just completed. The elderly man gasps behind him and his wide eyes show signs of disbelief.
"Master Bruce, are you sure that computer of yours is accurate sir?" Alfred Pennyworth manages to say.
"One hundred percent Alfred, there's no doubt in my mind. The young man at Mount Justice is William Grayson, Dick's older cousin. He went missing that the night of they boys' parents deaths. The police assumed he had been taken by the mob, but a body was never found to confirm it. I couldn't even find a trail on the boy, but here he is. Five years later. Dick doesn't even know it's him Alfred. He doesn't know that his only living relative is with him again."
The Dark Knight presses a few buttons and the screen goes blank. He then turns his head to face the elderly man beside him, a small smile on his lips.
"We don't know what he's been through Master Bruce, and I dare say that it's not our place to inform Master Richard of the young man's true identity, but I must ask, what you exactly plan to do?"
"He's just like me Alfred. I think more so than Dick is. He's obsessed that he couldn't stop his or Dick's parent's death. So he blames himself. It's why he's been on the streets for five years, taking on criminals in back alley ways. But he doesn't have my resources Alfred; he doesn't have the tools to become something bigger. If he wants to, I'll give him those tools and help him. I'll show him that there's a better use for the anger inside. Like I've done for myself, and Dick."
Nodding his head, the faithful butler to Wayne Manor, turns heads back to the elevator to take him up, while whispering to himself.
"But will he be consumed by his other half, like you Master Bruce? Or is he more like his cousin Master Richard?"
Back at Mount Justice, William is being introduced to Robin's teammates one by one.
"Ok, so you've met Artemis," The young hero motions to the archer with a smirk.
William smirks and nods his head to the girl, who smiles back. Suddenly a red haired youth clad in yellow armor seems to appear from nowhere.
"Hey Rob! Who's your friend? Sup' I'm Kid Flash!" The speedster introduces himself enthusiastically.
"Oh Hey KF, This is Black Bird, Batman and I found him the other night beating down some Mob thugs, we got Falcone there too!"
"Oh? So you impressed Bats huh? Cool! Maybe we can hang sometime ok dude?"
"Yeah, I guess that'd be fine. Uhh KF," Will replies with a nod and small smile.
"Oh, Hello Megan! Did you miss me babe?" The speedster dashes to a young teen girl's side.
Said girl has auburn hair and green skin, and she smiles politely at Wally then, floats. Yes floats, over to Robin and Will.
"Hi! I'm M'gann M'orzz, But my Earth name is Megan. It's a pleasure to meet you," The Martian girl smiles kindly, and Black Bird smiles back.
"You too Megan."
Turning his head, William see's a tall male walking over to him, his dark skin catches the eye, as well as the blonde hair on his head. Holding out his hand, Black Bird quickly grasps it and shakes firmly.
"My name is Kadlurahm of Atlantis. Also known as Aqua Lad, but my friends call me Kaldur," the Atlantean speaks coolly.
"It's good to make your acquaintance Kaldur."
Robin then pulls his arm and motions over to the couch, where another teen is sitting there petting a large white wolf. His black hair and blue eyes would make most girls squeal.
"And over there's Super Boy. Oh and Wolf," Robin cackles and grins.
The Half Kryptonian peers over in their direction and nods his head to Will, who does the same back.
"So, these are my friends, and this is our Pad, pretty sweet yeah?"
Suddenly a door opens up and a woman strolls in, clad in a black leotard with fishnet stocking and a jacket. Her blonde curls cascading down her back. One look and William knows she's dangerous, but he can't help but stare a moment.
"Oh, that's Black Canary. She helps train us."
"Robin, is this the new recruit?" Canary asks nonchalantly.
"Yeah, this is Black Bird," The young hero replies with a smile.
Sighing inwardly, William moves to offer his hand to the skimpily clad heroine. She takes his hand then with no second thought, flips him over her shoulder. Surprised, Williams instincts take over, and as he's flipped, he turns his body to land on his feet behind the woman.
"Hmmm, not bad kid. Maybe Bats is right about that potential. But I'll see for myself," canary says.
"Umm, What the Hell was that for?" William asks a bit angrily.
"Your coming with me, we have a lot of work to do kid."
With that, the woman turns and starts walking off, William frowns and then moves to catch up with her.
"Have fun," Robin calls out knowing full well his new friend is about to have one Hell of a training session.
Ok, Chapter 2 is completed. Finally! Thank you firstly for reading this. Secondly please review. I love reading reviews, its fun and it helps us become better writers. I'll be working more on this Fan Fic soon, as well as a few other ones. If you have any questions, or requests, just ask. I'm a long term kind of guy, so most of my stories are going to span to around 10 to 20 chapters. Lucky me. Anyways, Love ya's!
