Before you read id like to warn you that some characters may be OOC if you don't like that then I recommend not reading this book cause it happens a lot. But other than that. Enjoy
Liza and I had made it to the wall with the bag and determination, along with some fear. I had no idea what was beyond these borders.
I tossed the rope onto the hook. Well it took a few tries but I got it. I then turned towards her and sighed. "Are you sure you don't wanna come with?"
"Espio, I'm sure. You go! But once I see you again you got to tell me everything!" She grinned, I felt myself tearing up. I wanted to leave but I was gonna have to leave my best friend behind.
"I promise." She grabbed my hand and gave me a hug.
I turned towards the wall and and got a grip on the rope. I pulled my myself up. The fibers were pricking my hand but I had gotten used to it. I made it to the top and I climbed onto the thick edge. My plan was to jump on the tree that was nearest but before the I turned back around one last time.
"I'll see you again one day!" I yelled down to Liza, she had tears streaming down her cheek. "I'll miss you!" We both grinned at each other. I looked at the nearest tree and took a deep breath before jumping And trying to grab a branch in time. I did it.
I shimmied over to the trunk of the tree and slid down.
I was out. I made it.
I pumped my arms into the air and celebrated. But a slab of realization hit me. Where was I gonna go after this. I didn't have any idea of where my destination was gonna be. I started to walk straight.
Might as well start trying to find somewhere to stay. It felt like the forest never ended. There were trees and bushes surrounding me. After awhile I felt myself becoming tired. I took the bag off my back and used it like a pillow, it wasn't comfortable but it was something.
When I woke up I wasn't feel so good. My back hurt and I was still tired. But I had enough energy to keep walking.
After hours I finally seen something. There were buildings. They were clusters. I seen grey and black pavement running through buildings. Was this where I needed to be? I started to walk faster until I was out of the dark wooded area.
I made it to the black pavement but I noticed a light was shining coming closer and closer. I had stopped and heard a high pitch screeching.
The lights went out and this.. device sort of thing revealed to have a man inside. He seemed similar to me but I've never met him.
He got out and said "What are you doing in the road kid?! It's late."
"I-"
"Jeez, imagine if I hit you.. You could've ended up in the hospital.. and I could've lost my job.. You gotta be more careful!"
"Job?" I looked at him, I was confused by almost everything he's saying.
"I'm a social worker."
I just gave him a confused gaze. "Yknow, people who work with kids to help them get out of bad situations for their home life?"
I still didn't know what a "Social Worker" was.
He looked me up and down, "You're not from here are you?" He asked, I nodded.
"We should get out the road. Come on." He walked to the.. thing and pulled it open. I watched him and did the same. I sat down and it started to rumble making me flinch.
"Never been in a car before?" He seemed shocked. "Never." I replied.
"So where are you from?" The car started to move and I answered, "Dragon Kingdom."
"Really?! No wonder! You must be from the four clans." I got excited knowing that he knew of the clans.
"Yes! I'm apart of the Shinobi clan! My mother was the leader!" I felt a flood of sadness hit me. I wasn't gonna be there anymore.
"Why are you here then?"
I took a deep breath, "I ran away.. I had a future set up for me that I didn't want."
"There was this girl from another clan, her name was Nicole and I was arranged to marry her very soon." I explained.
"That's wild.."
"I came here for a fresh start and a better life. I wanna know what's out here."
He let out sigh and the car stopped. He turned towards me.
"Why don't I help you?" He said, I tilt my head and thought about it.
"I work with kids to start new life. That's my job. I can't just leave you all alone with no help. What do you think?"
He had a good idea. "Yes! You can help me start a new life!" I nodded.
"It's easier said than done but I'll help. But there is one thing.." He huffed and stared at the green light that was above in front of us.
"What is it?"
He explained to me that he didn't live in this place and he was on a vacation. I felt guilty for taking away his time but he said he didn't mind.
He warned me that it was gonna be awhile until our destination but I was fine with it. Anything to get as far away as possible from here.
"Well kid, we got about a 19 hour drive so imma teach you somethings. Let's see.."
He went on to show me little things in his car like this little device called a phone.. he explained that it was used to contact people and take photos and many other things. For such a small thing I was surprised of all the things it was able to use.
He let me use it, well I tried to at least I pressed something and I seen a bunch of rectangles with words in them.
"That is how we message people! If you click on one of the little boxes it will open your conversation."
"So this is how you talk to people through these.. messages?.." It didn't make any sense but I still tried to.
"Yes it is!" I proceeded to use his phone being distracted by some sort of game.
We made some stops and there was this place called a gas station, there was drinks and food and weird little knickknacks.
"Alright kid, imma get a few drinks I wanna see if you'll like them but just in case I'll get you a water." He handed me a few bottles with colorful liquid.
"Come on." I followed him to this counter with a machine, "This is a register, we give the lady our drinks to scan them I must pay her."
He gave the lady something and she put it in the machine.
She put the drinks in a bag and we went back into the car. "Alright 10 more hours..."
We continued our conversations I had explained to him my whole life so far.
After a long time which felt like forever he said we made it to our destination. I got out the car and he had stopped right in front of a small house. But something caught my eye, a rainbow flag hanging.
"What's that?" I asked him and grinned and came next to me. "That's a pride flag, a pride flag is a way to present that you support or apart lgbtq+ community,"
"Huh?.." I didn't exactly understand what he was saying but he continued to try and explain.
"The lgbtq+ is a community of people who feel same sex or same gender attraction. lgbtq stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer. Those are just a few what we call sexualities. I myself am Pansexual which means I'm attracted to everyone regardless of their gender."
"So the community is just people who like the same gender they are?.."
"Basically. Some people like one gender, some people like other genders, some people change their genders and some people feel like they're no gender. I'm happy to explain more but we should most likely go inside first."
I nodded and he opened the door to his home and I looked around. I followed him down a hall and he opened another door and there was a click and suddenly the room he had entered was illuminated.
"This is where you'll be staying alright, that's your bed." He pointed at the bed and I sat down on it. It was quite comfortable and soft. Better than the ones I've had before.
"Now tell me more!" I said excitedly, it was quite interesting to learn about a new community.
Apparently Gay was the sexuality for a male who likes another male and Lesbian for females who like other females. And he taught me what it was to be transgender and non binary. I didn't know that there was more than two genders.
Considering how isolated I was I doubt I would've ever known any of this.
Later that night I had thanked him for his kindness and allowing me to stay. I finally found out his name was Valdez.
I must give him back something someday. Only what could go up against what he was giving me.
