Oh my lord, I was in English today and I realise that James and Lily are like Romeo and Juliet, and I just about died! In the beginning it is all about courtly love and Romeo's unrequited love for Rosaline and I was like WAIT A MINUTE THIS IS JAMES AND LILY RIGHT HERE. And that is how Regina George died. No, I'm totally kidding! So yeah, mini english lesson for you there, and a mean girls reference too. This chapter is very romantic ish/a bit of Prongs+Padfoot banter! So hope you enjoy, R&R and you will be a sexy little person xx
"The look on his face was completely priceless!" Sirius laughed loudly.
It had been two week since 'Lily lost her pranking virginity', as Sirius had called it, and everyone was still talking about it. All the girls felt sorry for Lily, hated Liam for cheating on her and loved her for showing him for what he was; the boys just thought Liam had been insane to wreck his chances with the hottest girl in school. The Head Girl tasted the celebrity that the Marauders had enjoyed for years, and she had to admit…she loved. People copied how she wore her skirt, tried to copy her makeup and attempted to style their hair the same. She could finally appreciate why James used to be so bigheaded, when everyone wants to be like you, it does inflate your ego massively. Luckily Lily was too sensible to get carried away; she wasn't a big fan of the attention, but cherished her new friends.
I think plotting to get revenge on one's cheating ex-boyfriend creates an unbreakable bond between a goody-two-shoes and a bunch of troublemakers.
James chuckled, "Lils, I think this is going to go down in prank history!"
"Of course it will." Sirius yelled, "How often does the Head Girl call her ex out in front of everyone, then decorate the front of the school in a poster of him practically naked that's so big, you can still read the pink flashing 'Cheat' banner it from Hogsmeade? If that isn't legendary, nothing is!"
Lily blushed slightly, " Well you lot helped! It wasn't all me…"
"Yeah, but if it was us McGonagall would have murdered us, she took 20 points off for you." Remus replied, grinning darkly at the increasingly pink girl.
"That's just because she hates Liam and a pure feminist!"
"And she loves you."
"Shut up, Black."
"Minily is a lovely lesbian couple name."
"Sod off."
"I can just imagine it now."
"You have disturbing fantasies!"
"I'm sure you have them about me, my lovely little Ginger."
"Grrrrr."
"Growling, kinky. Just how Minnie likes it."
"You can shut it too, Potter."
"Aw, come on, Lils. That's never going happen!"
"A girl can dream, can't she?"
"Does that mean you dream of me then?"
James winked at an embarrassed Lily.
"Don't be so ridiculous. Why on earth would I dream of you?"
"Where do I begin? My dashing good looks? Devilish charm? Fabulous physique? General hotness? Take you pick, baby."
"Oh please!" Lily rolled her eyes at James' flirting, "You aren't that good looking! I mean you're pretty fit, but you're no Harry Styles!"
James froze. He went extremely pale.
"What did you say about me?" he spluttered.
"I said you were no Harry Styles. He's this guy from a boyband. I'm not a massive fan but he is just to die for!"
"No. Before that bit." He had turned deathly white and looking completely shell shocked.
"I said you were pretty fit." Lily replied, slightly worried by James' extremely odd behavior.
Bloody hell! That's the last time I compliment James! I think I've killed him. Oh my lord, the others look freaked out to. What the hell is wrong with everyone?
"What the hell is wrong with everyone? Jesus Christ!" Lily slammed her textbook shut, gathered up her stuff and went back to her room confused and irritated.
No one spoke for a while. They were in shock.
Lily Evans had just called James Potter fit. Cue the flying pigs.
Remus found his voice first, "Did she really just say that?"
"I think she did. Holy shit." Sirius shook his head in disbelief.
"Screw pranks, this is truly legendary." Peter added.
They looked at James, concerned how he'd took the comment.
"I think he's fainted."
"His eyes are open, Wormtail!"
"He's gone into shock."
"What do we do? Moony! You're supposed to be the clever one, help him."
"Just because I'm smart, doesn't mean I constantly know what to do, Wormtail!"
"For fuck's sake." Sirius muttered. He went and stood in front of the frozen Head Boy, and after a small moment of consideration, he slapped him across the face, really hard.
"What the fuck was that for?" James cupped his stinging face, groaning at the pain.
"Stop being such a little bitch."
"You've just slapped me!"
"As I said, stop being little bitch."
"I'm sorry, am I not allowed to be a tiny bit surprised that the girl of my dreams, who I've chased for years, and been rejected by countless time, has just called me fit? Me. Fit."
"I know big drama and all but you were scaring little Wormy by being all zombie like."
Peter threw his cushion at him.
James still couldn't understand it, "What the hell does this mean? I mean, she has always thought I was a dick."
"Maybe she just wants the D."
"Helpful, Padfoot."
"That's what I'm here for, Prongsie."
"You are such an idiot."
"I'm not the one who has just gone into shock over some girl calling him fit."
"Firstly, she isn't just some girl. This is Lily we're talking about. Lily Evans. LILY. EVANS. Secondly, sod off."
"Fabulous comeback, darling."
"Do you have a bloody death wish or something?"
"Ooooh! What are you gonna do to me, Jamesie? Go all creepy zombie again? I am so terrified."
"You're supposed to give me brotherly advice to do about this, not totally piss me off!"
"This isn't some girly support group. Go and shag if you want. But I would not mention it, then just wait for her to think you're properly fit."
"That is actually the most intelligent thing you've ever said, Pads."
"I've told you not to call me that. It sounds like that stuff girls use when they're…you know."
"Shut up, Pads."
James stared at the night sky. He had always loved the way the blue sky of the day had been covered in a beautiful inky blanket. The stars glowed like the fairies in kid's stories, dancing around the glowing orb of the moon. The moon, to James, was fascinating; he liked its different personalities, and how it wasn't afraid to display them. At the beginning it was shy, dark and mysterious; however throughout the month it became more confident, until it outshone the brightest star in sky. Every month, when he accompanied his werewolf best friend as an illegal animagus, he couldn't help but admire the moon's nobility, a true Gryffindor.
He smiled to himself, picturing the moon with a lion crest on it.
"James?"
He turned toward the voice. His heart began to beat faster. It was Lily.
"Hi." His voice sounded oddly mature, "What brings you to the Astronomy Tower?"
Lily walked over to where he sat, leaning against a pillar looking out at the tranquil night. She looked even more perfect as she sat across from him, her face illuminated with moonlight.
"It's nice and peaceful here. I like coming here sometimes, it clears my mind." she replied absentmindedly.
"Same. What's on your mind?" James replied, concerned incase she was hurting again.
"Nothing really."
"Lily, you are a terrible liar. What's wrong?"
"I was just thinking how destructive I am." Her beautiful face was etched with sadness as she continued, "I mean, whenever I have someone close, I usually mess it up somehow. Or force them away."
"What the hell are you on about? That's not you!"
"It is me! I did it with Petunia, Severus, Liam and of course, you. I can't let others be too close to me; I am emotionally retarded." She gave a small sad laugh, which nearly broke James' heart.
So he leant forward onto his knees so he could touch her face. "Lily. Your sister is just jealous of what she can never have; Snape called you something unspeakable and wrecked what was left of your friendship he was already destroying with his obsession with the Dark Arts; Liam was a dick and I… Well you can push me as much as you want, I'll always be there. I'll always there to make some stupid joke, tease the hell out of you, to catch you when you fall or just to hold you. I will always be there."
She leant forward on her knees too, her arms wrapping around his neck. Her emerald eyes shone with an expression James had never seen before.
Lily brought her mouth close to his ear and whispered "Thank you. For always being there. I-I don't know what I would do without you. Thank you."
James hugged like it was the last thing he would do. They remained locked in their embrace for what seemed like hours.
Then Lily slowly tilted her face so she could look at James. A strange sensation began in her chest as she gazed into his hazel eyes.
I can't believe I've never really noticed his eyes before. I always thought they were just brown, but they are so much more than just ordinary brown. They were a whirlpool of greens, ambers, golds and the most beautiful caramel mixed with deep coffee. Wow. How could I never notice how beautiful they are?
I've never notice his jawline either. Maybe it's the moonlight, but it seems to be the most beautiful jawline I've ever seen.
His hair. I used to hate the way it stuck up in random directions, but now I can see the wild beauty of it, like a beautiful jungle of ebony. Maybe I'm just tired, but since when did I feel so warm and safe in his arms?
What is happening to me? Why am I thinking of James like this? Why am I feeling so odd?
"Lils, do you want me to walk you back to the dorm?"
God, his voice.
"I'm alright, I'll leave you in peace. Goodnight, James." She fled before he could argue, her mind racing almost as fast as her heart.
Since when did she think of James like this? Since when did she think in such a soppy, romantic nonsensical way? Was she ill? Or insane?
As she lay in bed, she had a thought. A thought so wild, so ridiculous, so impossible, it couldn't be true.
Maybe she had fallen for him.
