Title: A Thousand Years

Chapter 15

(Caroline looks between the two men again before giving Tyler her full attention. What could Tyler have to say that she hasn't already heard? She sighs as she speaks)

Caroline: "What is it this time, Tyler? You've been away all this time. On the rare occasion that you call me, it's to say that Klaus has done something wrong." (shrugs) "Do you have proof to back up your claims?"

Tyler: "Don't you get it, Caroline? Your boy toy tried to have me killed."

Klaus: (shakes his head) "The only reason I tried to have you killed is because you tried to do the exact same thing. I was merely defending myself, Lockwood."

Caroline: (sighs in defeat) "Why are you here, Tyler? You've been gone all of this time to get revenge against Klaus."

(Tyler briefly looks down as if to admit rejection before facing the blonde woman he adored)

Tyler: "I made a terrible mistake, Caroline. I never should have left in the first place. I missed you like crazy."

(Caroline scoffs incredulously! What kind of fool did he think she was? That she'd take him back just like that? He had to be fucking kidding)

Caroline: (shakes her head) "Too late."

(Caroline can't take it anymore and goes back to her room. Klaus decides to say his piece and tells Tyler what he thinks of the situation)

Klaus: (spits) "You've hurt her enough times, you jackass. I won't let you do it again. Now, leave."

(Klaus attempts to shut the door and walks to his girl. Klaus groans when Tyler stops the door and follows them into the bedroom. Tyler chuckles dryly and begins to speak again, causing Klaus and Caroline to face him)

Tyler: (narrows his eyes) "How about the time you had someone follow Caroline awhile back? What do you call that, Mikaelson? I'm sure Caroline would love to hear about that."

(Caroline looks at Tyler in confusion before facing Klaus)

Caroline: "What is he talking about, Klaus?"

Klaus: "I thought you were in danger, so I admit I had someone follow you. If I couldn't be there to protect you, I hired someone to do the job."

(Tyler rolls his eyes in annoyance before speaking)

Tyler: "Oh, please. Tell the truth, for once in your life. You're just using Caroline to get to me."

Klaus: (scoffs) "Unlike you, Lockwood, I don't use other people to get what I want. I love Caroline unconditionally and would never intentionally hurt her just to get to you. I would never use her like you have."

(Klaus couldn't help the smirk from forming at his enemy's expense. He has wanted to hurt Lockwood for a long time. However, he would never use Caroline to do it. He wanted his hands to be clear of any wrongdoing. Tyler looked shocked and he didn't know how to respond to Klaus' statement)

(Tyler looked around without moving his head as he tried to think of what to say. How the hell was he supposed to respond to Klaus' comment or accusation? He looked between his ex and his enemy as he tried to speak. Shit! He was drawing a blank! Whatever he said next needed to be good. Tyler sighs deeply as he wipes his face with his hands before speaking)

Tyler: "Do you have anything else that you would like to accuse me of, asshole?"

Klaus: (scoffs) "You had your chance with Caroline, but you chose to abandon her. Why would you do that to someone you supposedly love?" (points at Tyler) "For the record, I would never abandon her. I love her and would cherish her like the queen she is. You? Wow! You chose revenge over her. No one does that. You're not even a man, you prick. You're a boy. A boy who does what he wants and to hell with the consequences." (tilts his head) "I'll bet that hasn't gotten you very far."

(Tyler looks between Klaus and Caroline before focusing on Caroline)

Tyler: "Can we talk in private, please? Somewhere he can't influence you? I want to tell you my side of the story…where Klaus can't twist things around. Can we go for a walk?"

(Caroline glances between the two men and sighs in confusion. She honestly didn't know what to do. She loved Klaus with all of her heart. Tyler still had that pull over her, though. She told Elena that she was over Tyler. Was she, though? Tyler was her first love. She truly thought they'd be together forever when he left her to go chase ghosts)

(She shakes her head and moves the strands of hair out of her face as she walks away. Ugh! What the hell was she supposed to do? She goes to sit on Elena's bed that was across from hers. She leans her head down and rests her hands on her thighs. Tyler walks to her and bends down to her level. He rests his hands on hers and talks in a soft voice)

Tyler: "I love you, Care. I never stopped. You're my whole world. Did I make a big mistake in not choosing you in the end over revenge?" (nods) "Yes, I royally fucked up. Please know I want to correct my errors and make it up to you. Please say that you'll forgive me, baby. I'm lost without you. I don't care about the revenge anymore. I want you more than that. It's not worth it to lose you again."

Klaus: (mumbles under his breath) "Yeah, right. You're just telling tales, you jackass."

(Caroline can't stop the tears from forming in her eyes. What the hell was she supposed to do? She has never been this torn before. She loved both men. Her and Klaus finally admitted their true feelings, only to be interrupted by Tyler)

(Caroline is caught off-guard by Elena's voice in the room)

Elena: "Listen to what your heart is telling you, Care."

(Caroline quickly glances up to see her best friend. The two women face each other)

Caroline: (sniffles) "I think I need time to decide." (to Klaus & Tyler) "Can you both give me space right now? I'm-I'm so confused."

(Klaus walks to the object of his affection and bends down to her level. He smiles a bit and gently wipes the tears from her face)

Klaus: "I'll give you as much time as you need, love. Please know that you hold my heart in your hands. I love you and am always here for you."

(Klaus gets up, kissing Caroline on the forehead and walks out with Elijah behind him. Elena sees Tyler still there and gets mad)

Elena: "She says she needs time to think. That means you need to leave, too. Honor her request, Tyler."

(Tyler sighs as he folds his arms over his chest and he leaves. Elena and Caroline look at each other as Elena rests her arm over Caroline's shoulder to comfort her)

Elena: "Talk to me, Care. What are you thinking?"

(Caroline scoffs lightly as she gets up from the bed, placing her hands on her hips)

Caroline: "I-I wish I knew what to do." (faces Elena) "I think I've loved Klaus since our first encounter. He keeps me on my toes and tells it like it is. Tyler left me, Elena. He left me and didn't look back. I didn't know if I was ever going to see him again. The whole revenge thing? It's full of shit. Tyler made the choice to chase after his demons. The only thing that Klaus is really guilty of is not admitting his feelings until today. Then again, I've done that, too. It took me this long to admit mine."

Elena: (nods) "You did in the end, though. That's what matters. In my honest opinion, Tyler doesn't deserve your love or your forgiveness. It is YOU that has to make that choice, though. You need to do what's right for you and block everyone else out." (smiles) "You need to take as much time as you need."

Caroline: (shrugs sadly) "Will it be the right choice, though?"

Elena: "Only you can decide that, honey. Just know that I'll be there for you, no matter what."

Caroline: (smiles) "Best friends for life?"

Elena: (nods & smiles) "You know it."

(The two friends share a hug)
