Two Weeks Later…

Nicole woke up and rolled over to find Charlie still fast asleep. Today was the day the rest of the troops came home so the couple would be at the airfield for most of the day; Charlie was taking it as an opportunity to show off the twins. Charlie began to stir, "Morning honey."

"Morning Niki," Charlie answered.

"How'd you sleep?" Nicole asked.

Charlie groaned, "Fine in the two hour shifts we both sleep in. But I have to do most of the feedings."

"Maybe we could try pumping your milk into bottles. Then I could take over some of them," said Nicole.

The couple heard crying coming from the baby monitor. They both slowly made their way into the nursery and were welcomed by the screams of the twins, "Hey how's Mommy's little angels?" cooed Nicole.

Charlie observed as her wife continued to coo at Hannah and lift her into her arms. Charlie didn't quite know why Nicole had been so doubtful at her abilities to be a good mother. By the way she handled the twins, one might think Nicole had been a mother for years, "Do you need me to do anything babe?"

"No I've got this Charlie," said Nicole as she changed Hannah into a fresh diaper and put her in a pink onesie with little whiter hearts on it, "Do you need me to handle Alyssa?"

Charlie chuckled but shook her head, "For someone who was so afraid of having kids, you seem to be a world class expert at taking care of them."

Nicole sighed and nodded, "It just seems like it should be…harder than it is. I mean all they need is to be fed, to be changed, and to be rocked to sleep. It's like there should be more to the job."

"Honey, it's only as hard as you make it. And maybe this is the universe's way of saying you were born to be someone's Mommy," said Charlie kissing Nicole on her temple.

"I guess so," said Nicole, "But I really think this is too easy."

"Believe me, so do I," said Charlie.

"So what time are you're parents and siblings getting in from St. Louis?" asked Nicole.

"Around one," said Charlie, "And believe me, Mikey will make her presence known."

"You know it," laughed Nicole. Her sister-in-law, just like Charlie, was very upbeat and outgoing.

"You girls ready to meet Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Alex, and Aunt Mikey?" asked Charlie to her babies. They both just yawned in response.

A Couple Hours Later…

The doorbell rang and Charlie quickly ran to answer the door, "How's our new Mommy!" shouted Mikey excitedly.

"Just fine Mikey," said Charlie.

"How are you feeling?" asked Mikey.

"Pretty good," said Charlie, "Tired."

"Oh my, I've never heard a new Mom say that. You're the first," said Alex sarcastically.

Charlie glared at her brother, "Glad to see you've changed."

Nicole came over to where the others were, "Hello Mikey, Alex."

"Hey Niki," said Mikey happily embracing Nicole, "So how's being a Mommy treating you?"

"Pretty good," said Nicole, "Um, where's Zack and Anna?"
"Getting Mikey's plethora of suitcases," said Alex. Nicole rolled her eyes. Of the two Mayfield girls, she had actually married the least girly one.

"Okay, so where are our granddaughters?" asked Anna excitedly.

"In their playpen Mom," said Charlie.

"So how's my baby?" asked Anna and Zack entered behind her with the suitcases.

"Just fine Mom," said Charlie.

"Honey, are you sure we have enough room for everyone. We have one guest bedroom," said Nicole.

"Oh no worries, Nicole. We're staying at a hotel. The suitcases have presents for the girls," said Anna. Nicole nodded her understanding.

"So enough about us what's new with you guys?" asked Charlie as she handed Alyssa off to Anna. Nicole handed Hannah to Zack.

"Well, Mikey has some big news," said Zack, "My other girl is leaving me."

"I'll still talk to you Dad," said Mikey, "Anyway, you know that guy I've been dating for a couple of years now?"

"Mason, right?" asked Nicole.

"Yep," Mikey nodded, "Anyway on Valentine's Day, he asked me a certain question," said Mikey showing of the piece of jewelry that resided on her left ring finger.

"He proposed?!" asked Charlie excitedly.

"No sis, not at all," smirked Alex.

"Smart ass," said Charlie to her brother, "Oh my gosh congratulations Mikey!" Charlie hugged her sister.

"Congrats," said Nicole embracing her as well. Zack and Anna handed Hannah and Alyssa to their other two children.

"Aw, Charlie, Niki they're adorable," said Mikey.

"Hey before you know it you'll have some of your own," said Nicole.

"Um, no not right now," chuckled Mikey, "I think Mason and I might wait awhile before having kids. Right now spoiling my nieces is enough."

When the day was over, the Mayfields headed to their hotel while Nicole and Charlie got the girls ready for bed. The couple sat down to watch the news after Hannah and Alyssa were settled in their cribs. Nicole leaned against Charlie who wrapped her arm around her. They stayed that way for a long time before Charlie kissed Nicole on the top of her head, "I love you Niki."

Nicole looked up and kissed Charlie and said, "I love you too Charlie."
