Chapter 11
Lucy slowly started to wake up, opening her eyes slowly, trying to adjust them to the bright whiteness of her room. She started to panic, where was she when she remembered the accident and being brought into the hospital. She painfully turned her head towards the chair by her bedside and noticed that Tim wasn't there with her like he was when she woke up after Caleb buried her alive and she began to worry.
Lucy: Where's Tim?
Tamara: Hey, Lucy, you're awake. Tim is right outside talking to Angela and Nyla. Let me go get him.
Lucy smiled at Tamara
Lucy: I told you he would be here.
Tamara: I'm sorry for doubting him. I just really want what's best for you.
Lucy: I know. And I appreciate you looking out for me.
Tamara: Always. I promised Tim, I would get him the minute you woke up.
Lucy: Thank you.
Tamara stood up, touched Lucy's good hand ever so lightly and then opened the door to let Tim know that Lucy was awake.
Tim: She's up?
Tamara: Yeah, and she's asking for you.
Tim: I should have been there as soon as she opened her eyes.
Lucy: It's okay, you're here now.
Tim walked past Tamara and stood beside Lucy's bed
Tim: Are you okay? I'm so sorry nobody told me sooner. I tried to come as soon as I found out no thanks to Angela and Tamara, but about 5 hours after the accident Bailey finally told me what happened.
Lucy: I'm good Tim, I'm really good. The doctor said that I'm going to make a full recovery and I knew that you would come be with me as soon as you found out. I didn't worry about it for a second.
Tim: Tamara and Angela refused to tell me where you were, they were so upset I wasn't here. I'm glad you didn't lose faith in me though. It means a lot Lucy.
Lucy: Thank you.
Tim: Now that I am here though I will not leave your side until you get discharged.
Lucy was about to say something back to Tim when they heard a knock on the door before the door was opened and both Angela and Nyla walked into Lucy's room.
Angela: Sorry to interrupt but we need Tim for a little.
Tim: What's going on?
Angela: Not here, can we talk in the hallway?
Tim: I just promised Lucy that I am not leaving her side until the doctor lets her leave the hospital and I am not breaking another promise tonight.
Angela: I really hate to ask you this then Tim, but we found Ashley 30 minutes ago. The officers brought her to the station, processed her and she is now in the interrogation room and we wanted to know if you wanted to be the officer to talk to her.
Lucy: Where did you find her?
Angela: Lucy, you work on getting better and let us put Ashley in jail where she belongs.
Lucy: Tim, what are you not telling me?
Tim: Babe. Look, Angela is right. You focus on you and
Lucy: No way. You promised me that you would talk to me, that we wouldn't hide things from each other again. Tim, you and I ended up in this mess because you refused to talk to me, to ask me my side of the story.
Tim: And I should have just asked you what happened. And then I would have been mad at Ashley and not you but
Lucy: But what?
Tim: I'm not trying to hide this from you babe, I just don't want to upset you and cause you any more stress than you need right now.
Lucy: Not knowing will stress me out more than if you tell me where you found Ashley.
Angela: We found Ashley hiding out in Chris Sanford's apartment.
Lucy: Chris?
Angela: Yeah
Lucy: So, Ashley and Chris are dating?
Angela: That's what it looks like as of now.
Lucy: When did it start?
Angela: When did what start?
Lucy: Ashley and Chris. When did they start dating?
Angela: Why do you care?
Lucy: I want to know if Ashley slept with Chris while we were still dating.
Tim: Why, would it really bother you if Chris cheated on you with Ashley?
Lucy: No
Tim: So then why does it matter?
Angela: I think Lucy is questioning who the father of Ashley's baby is.
Tim: Wait, you really think that after all this Chris was the biological father of Ashley's baby?
Angela: I don't know Tim, but why would she purposely kill the baby if she knew you and Lucy would raise the baby unless she didn't want you to find out that the baby wasn't yours.
Lucy: What are you talking about kill the baby? I thought it was an accident?
Tim: Turns out that the car that hit you tonight was the same car Ashley was driving when she lost the baby. Both accidents were not accidental. She caused them both.
Lucy: So, Ashley hit me on purpose? I just assumed it was a fluke accident.
Tim: Nope. Ashley was driving the car and Chris was in the passenger seat during the accident.
Lucy: This whole thing has gone from crazy to insane. Why would Ashley want to kill me if she didn't want you back because she is with Chris anyway?
Angela: I don't know Lucy, but that is why we wanted Tim to talk to her. To hopefully get some answers out of her.
Lucy: What about Chris?
Angela: Wesley is interrogating him because he works for the DA's office, they wanted to handle it in house before we officially arrested him.
Lucy: Do we even have anything to arrest him for?
Tim: Yup. For stealing our dinner reservations tonight.
Lucy: What are you talking about?
Tim: Well, after Ashley hit you, almost killing you they fled the scene and went straight to the restaurant and used up our reservations.
Lucy: That's not a crime. It's cruel that they did that but you can't charge them for that.
Tim: Your right. But they took the reservation of a cop which means they pretended to be me so.
Lucy: You are charging them for impersonating a cop.
Angela: Yup,
Lucy: Will that stick?
Angela: I don't know. But hopefully once we talk to both of them, we will be able to charge them for that and much more. But for now, it gives us enough time to at least keep them in holding for a little bit.
Nyla: Bradford, are you coming to interrogate her, or should I?
Tim: I really can't leave Lucy right now.
Lucy: Babe, go with them please. I need answers and you are the best person to question her right now.
Tim: Are you sure? I really hate the thought of leaving you here by yourself.
Lucy: I won't be alone. Tamara is here with me and once you are done. I know that you will come back here for me.
Tim: Only if you're sure.
Lucy: Yes Tim. I'm positive go talk to Ashley and don't come back until you have all my answers.
Tim: Lucy,
Angela: You heard the lady. Let's go.
Tim: Yes mam.
Tim, Angela and Nyla left Lucy's room as Tamara walked back inside to keep Lucy company until Tim was able to come back to be with her. Tim felt really bad leaving her there, but he knew that right now he was needed somewhere else. But he promised himself that the second he was no longer needed he was driving right back to the hospital as fast as he could with lights and sirens on.
When they walked into the station, they saw Wesley walking behind Chris who was escorted back to holding in handcuff.
Wesley: Hi, you don't need to talk to Ashley, Chris confessed to everything on tape. We have enough to charge them both and sentence them to the maximum
Tim: I still want to know why she did this to me.
Wesley: Chris explained it all in his confession, if you just want to watch the tape.
Angela: Thanks babe, but I think Tim wants to see if Ashley will tell it all to him first before watching the tape.
Wesley: Okay, whatever you want.
Tim: I'll take the tape though to use as leverage against Ashley if that's okay.
Wesley: Of course.
Tim took the tape from Wesley and then walked towards the interrogation room followed by Angela who came with him to make sure he didn't do or say anything to Ashley that he would later regret.
Ashley: I already told the detectives I'm not talking without my lawyer.
Tim: Even to me?
Ashley: What makes you think I would ever want to talk to you?
Tim: Then why are you doing this?
Ashley: You really don't get it, do you?
Tim: No, Ashley I really don't. This is not the girl I dated. That girl would never hurt anyone like this.
Ashley: And how exactly would you know that? You hardly knew the girl you dated
Tim: What is that supposed to mean?
Ashley: In all the time we were together you cared more about Lucy than you ever cared about me and you weren't exactly subtle about it either.
Tim: So you try to kill her so you could have me back?
Ashley: Back Tim? You think I want you back? Our time together was so terrible that I would never want you back
Tim: Then I'm really confused? Why would you tell me that Lucy had you kill my baby? Why would you do any of this?
Ashley: I said I don't want to talk to you.
Tim: You don't want to answer my questions that okay. Chris already confessed and we are charging you both with armed robbery, and attempted murder of a police officer along with several other minor charges, for property damage, impersonating a cop, domestic abuse and the biggest one for killing my baby they will also be charging you with vehicular manslaughter.
Ashley: Thats insane. It will never stick.
Tim: ADA Evers has assured us that it will stick. Now you can talk to me, explain why you did all of this and maybe he will be lenient as Chris is an ADA and your father was a cop. Or don't talk and you will get the maximum here which is life without parole.
Ashley: Fine, I just wanted you to know what it was like to date someone who really wanted to be with someone else.
Tim: And telling me that Lucy didn't want my baby was going to accomplish that how?
Ashley: I hoped that when you found out the baby was mine and yours that you would want to be with me and she would then know what it felt like to date you when you wanted to be with me.
Tim: And Chris? When did he enter the picture?
Ashley: Well, one night right after you and I broke up I had come to the station to get something from your desk that belonged to me and Chris was here waiting for Lucy. We started talking and he kept complaining about how he was in love with Lucy but she didn't know if she loved him back and he was upset that she was dating him and stringing him along if she really wanted to be with you.
Tim: Okay, and?
Ashley: So, we went home together that night and have been dating ever since.
Tim: So, he slept with you while he was still officially dating Lucy?
Ashley: Yup.
Tim: And the baby?
Ashley: Since neither of us actually wanted to be parents we figured it would be nice to dump the baby on both of you as payback.
Tim: So Chris really was the baby's father
Ashley: Yeah
Tim: And you thought I would never find that out?
Ashley: I hoped you would never question it?
Tim: You really thought the baby would look enough like you that I would never know Chris was the father?
Ashley: I was hormonal
Tim: Then why did you kill the baby?
Ashley: When Chris found out the baby was his, he said I had to get rid of it completely and not just give it to you or he would break up with me.
Tim: So, you killed my baby to save your relationship?
Ashley: It was never your baby Tim.
Tim: Whatever. Moving on. Why did you take the hostages yesterday?
Ashley: That? I just wanted to talk to Lucy. There wasn't supposed to be anyone else in the building.
Tim: You have an excuse for everything. And the gunshots?
Ashley: That was Chris telling me it was time to run away.
Tim: And the restaurant?
Ashley: That was Chris's idea as payback for the double date where the two of you ignored us.
Tim: You could have said something, broken up with me sooner. You didn't have to ruin my life over this.
Ashley: This was way more fun.
Tim: I hope spending your life in jail is worth it.
Ashley: Knowing that you and Lucy were not talking for almost a year, made all of this worth it.
Tim: I'm done here.
Tim and Angela walked out of the interrogation room and let some other cops take her back down to her cell. Tim left the station as promised and went straight back to Lucy's room getting there as the doctor handed Tamara Lucy's discharge papers.
Doctor: She's free to go. Just make sure that Miss Chen gets lots of rest and doesn't over use her broken arm too much.
Tim: We will make sure she is well taken care of.
Tamara: Knowing him doc, he will treat her like a porcelain doll for the rest her life.
Doctor: Sounds like this man is a keeper
Lucy: He really is.
The doctor left the room leaving the door open behind him.
Tamara: I'm going to leave you two alone now, I'll see you back at the apartment.
Tim: Actually, I was hoping to take Lucy back to my place to recuperate, if that's okay?
Lucy: Tim, that is really not necessary. I can take care of myself
Tamara: No way, you heard the doctor. I'm okay with Tim helping to care for you, but why can't you both come to our place?
Tim: I'm more comfortable sleeping on my couch than your small one.
Tamara: Oh right, I forgot that you two haven't slept in the same bed in over a year. Okay if Lucy is good going to your place, I am good with it also.
Lucy: This is crazy. Both of you. I can go home and Tim you don't need to sleep on the couch. You can sleep in my bed with me where you belong.
Tim: Lucy, I really don't want to rush things. It's okay I'll sleep on your couch.
Lucy: How am I ever going to be able to fulfill the dream I thought that Ashley took from me if you will never sleep with me again?
Tamara: I'm going to go. You two figure this out, but I don't need to listen to this.
Tim: I'm sorry.
Ashley: Don't worry. It's all good. Lucy, feel better. Tim, don't screw it up. You will not get a third chance.
Tim: I wouldn't dream of it.
Tamara left and Tim helped Lucy get dressed and get her things all packed up. In the end Lucy decided that she didn't want to leave Tamara in their apartment by herself so Tim dropped her off at home then quickly ran back to his house to gather some of his stuff before unofficially moving in with Lucy.
It took Lucy almost 2 months before she was allowed back on the job and by that time her special assignment had already been handed off to a different detective so she no longer had a reason to stay at Mid-Wilshire. Lucy was offered her choice of stations and since she and Tim were doing so well in their relationship she decided to stay as Chief of detectives in Mid-Wilshire.
For 6 months things went really well. Tim had basically moved in with her, going home every couple of days to make sure Kojo was okay and to look around to make sure no one had broken in while he was gone. Every morning Lucy would wake up to the smell of Tim making her breakfast. When they would come home from work Tim would walk her to couch have her sit down in front of the TV and he would cook her dinner. Lucy looked back at where they had come from 2 years ago and was really happy. She knew the pain they went through would never go away. S
One day Lucy came home from work before Tim and decided to cook him dinner for a change. She set the table with flowers and candles. Made his favorite dinner remembering to skip out on the mushrooms and sat there waiting for him to come home. Lucy was waiting and waiting but Tim never came home. 3 hours after he was supposed to come home her phone rang and she saw it was Tim.
Tim: Lucy, I'm so sorry. I really am. Something came up and I just can't get away right now.
Lucy: It's okay. Do you want me to come back? Is there anything I can do to help?
Tim: No! I don't want you anywhere near this
Lucy: Tim, talk to me. You promised.
Tim: Lucy, Ashley and Chris escaped prison this afternoon. They are both somewhere in the city right now.
Lucy was silent, trying to process what Tim had just told her. Lucy had wanted a future and a family with Tim. But they would not be able to fulfil that dream if Ashley killed her first. Lucy was speechless. Tim was nervous, he didn't want to tell Lucy but he also couldn't keep it from her. He was about to call her name when he heard her scream.
Lucy: AHHHHHHH
