The morning after he got dropped off, he got a letter in the mail. The address read:

Mr. H. Potter

The Cupboard Under the Stairs

4 Privet Drive

Little Whinging

Surrey

The cupboard under the stairs, Harry though. But how could they know that that was where he slept? He didn't even get mail.

He wandered into the kitchen, handing everyone else their mail, still staring at the letter. Then he heard Dudley cry out. Of all the things that Dudley notices, of course it has to be the letter, of all things.

...

When Harry finally got his letter, it was on his birthday. A large man, (with an umbrella) gave it to him.
