I ran into the night, blinking back tears. I pressed my hands to my chest to ward off the pain in my heart. I heard a snap and suddenly my left shoe didn't have its high heel anymore. I tumbled and landed on my side, ripping my new dress.
I lay there sobbing for a few minutes and then as I quieted down I could hear heavy breathing from a few steps behind me. I knew who it was without looking, for we had exhausted each other many times over the past few nights. I took a moment to calm myself then turned to him. "You laughed at me. My prince, why did you laugh at me?"
Finn's gaze dropped down from my pathetic state to his own shoes. "I wasn't laughing at you Lumikki. It's just Lumpy Space Princess, she's got her own ideas. The makeup she put on you made you look like a clown nurse. It's just my own nervous reaction." He looked back towards me. I'm sorry I hurt your feelings."
I could see the honest hurt in his eyes and I dropped my own gaze down to the ground. "It wasn't just you, but I could see all the candy people making fun of me also."
"Let's go back. We'll get you fixed up and they'll all apologize. I swear they will."
"No." I tried to stand, but my uneven shoes threw off my balance and I fell backwards.
Finn rushed up and grabbed me in his arms. "No?"
"I want to go home."
"If that's what you want, I'll take you back to your village. I really am sorry."
"No, that's not home anymore. The treehouse is our home."
"So you forgive me?"
"Always, my prince." I put my arms around him and buried my face in his chest, smearing my makeup over his shirt.
Finn's wolf, Jake, spoke out. "Are you sure about that, your Highness? It really is a nice party."
"Yes, I've had enough of this Candy Kingdom. You can stay if you like, but I'm leaving now."
"You heard her, Jake. Please give us a ride home." Finn then turned with me in his arms. "Sorry about this, Peebles."
I heard the voice of that princess of the Candy Kingdom speak out, "I apologize for the inconvenience, your Highness. It was entirely my fault for not looking after the preparations myself. We will make it right for you."
"No, I don't care. I'm going home now."
"As you wish. Feel free to visit anytime."
I could hear the disappointment in her voice. Finn even had a nickname for her. What was the nature of the friendship they shared?
It didn't matter, Finn was mine. "Let's go, my prince."
Jake stretched under Finn and expanded to carry us on his back. During the ride home I listened with one ear to the sounds of the night and with the other to Finn's heartbeat.
When we got back to the treehouse Finn stepped off of Jake's back onto the second story balcony. He then carried me into the bathroom and started to remove my clothes.
I reached for his belt buckle.
"Lumikki?"
"Let's shower together, Finn."
"If that's what you want."
He took off his shirt and I stared at his chest for a moment, blushing. Then I hurriedly threw off my clothes.
In the shower he at first focused his efforts on washing my face. When I had enough of that I grabbed his wrists and moved his hands to where I needed them, then reached back and guided his member to where I needed it. When he moved his hands down my waist I reached forwards and turned the water off. His release triggered mine and when his member dropped limply away from me, I turned the water back on. We washed and dried off each other, then went to our bed without bothering to put on any clothes. I drifted off to sleep with his arms wrapped around me.
In the morning I woke with his member pressing against my back. I turned him over onto his back, raised myself and guided it towards me.
Finn's eyes flashed open. "What? Oh, Lumikki."
"As per your promise, my prince. Once each morning and once each night."
"And if I can do better than that?"
"The more the better."
After I rode him once, he turned me over and rode me. Then we rose and washed each other again.
I followed Finn around the treehouse that morning as he did his chores. Then at noon Jake showed me how to cook with the fresh ingredients from their, no our, garden. It was a new experience from all those years I had cooked quite simple dishes from the dried or canned foods father had brought me.
That night Finn said he could make love to me once, but wanted to warm me up first. His warm hands and tongue certainly did that. After he rode me, he collapsed on his back and I crawled over to clean him up with my tongue. Then I snuggled up in his arms.
That night I dreamed of the flames again and woke screaming. I felt Finn's strong arms holding me down and looked up into his eyes. "Finn! Just promise me. Promise me you won't go away, you won't die."
He wrapped his arms around me and cradled me tightly. "Don't worry, my love. I've taken all the dangers of Ooo so far, and it hasn't killed me yet. I swear I won't leave you."
I turned away from him, the image of his face vanishing in the flames too sharp in my memory. I disentangled myself from his arms and rose from our bed, but then I reached back with my hand and waited for him to place his hand in it. I led him to the shower, then without turning on the water I bent forwards away from him and guided his hands to my hips. "Please Finn, I need to feel your touch, to feel you inside me, to know that you are there."
"Sure thing, Lumikki."
I reached back and guided his member into me. He did not disappoint. Later as we showered I closed my eyes tightly as I turned towards him and pulled him close to me.
"Are you alright, Lumikki?"
"Just give me a minute more, my prince." I counted off 60 of his heartbeats before I spoke again. "You can go now."
"Are you sure you'll be okay?"
"Yes." I willed my arms to drop away from him and took a tiny step away from him that felt like it was farther than the distance between the snow village of my childhood and this treehouse that was our new home.
It was only after he walked away that I found the courage to open my eyes, get out of the shower and dry myself off.
As I dressed I noticed that our dirty laundry was piling up. I had never had so many clothes to get dirty before, not to mention Finn's. I gathered them up along with the bed sheets and washed them in the tub. As I carried the basket out of our room I saw that device of Finn's. "BMO, please start a fire so I can dry these clothes."
"Finn and Jake use the wind and the sun to dry clothes."
"Oh? Show me then."
The device led me to a balcony in the treehouse where a line looped around two spindles attached to distant branches. I quickly got the hang of pinning one item of clothing to the line then pulling the line around to make space for the next. After I had finished hanging them all, I picked up the basket and looked down at the ground in front of the tree.
Finn was there, practicing swinging his sword in midair. I blushed at his grace, speed and strength, and then winced as I remembered the flames. I shut my eyes until I had turned away from him and looked out on the opposite horizon. I saw something there I had only seen pictures of in books. I screamed and dropped the basket to the balcony at my feet.
"Lumikki?" Finn looked up at me. "What is it?"
"It's a goblin!"
"What?" Finn followed the line of my gaze. "Oh, hi Fred."
"You know this creature?" I glanced at Finn, then turned back towards the monster.
"Yeah, he's a friend. So Fred, can you stay for lunch?"
The short semi-human creature spoke. "Yes Finn, but only just."
"So you've got a quest for me?"
"I'm afraid so. The goblin princess has been abducted."
"Okay, you can tell me all about it over lunch." Finn looked up at me. "Lumikki, tell Jake we've got a guest for lunch."
We gathered at the table and Fred ate quickly, then having filled his tiny stomach he began to relate the events that had led to the abduction.
I found myself staring at him and dropped my gaze down to my plate.
"Lumikki."
I turned towards Finn, then dropped my gaze again.
"If you're not up to the adventure I can turn it down, but the goblins really are friends."
I put my hand on Finn's. "Go, she needs you. Rescue her as you have me. No, I don't mean in the same way. Return this other princess to her home, then return here to me."
"As you wish, my love." Finn raised my hand and kissed it.
I watched Finn and the goblin ride off on Jake for as long as I could, then turned back to gather up the laundry. I placed everything much more neatly into the closets and drawers than Finn had kept things, then turned back towards the empty bed. Without Finn how could I sleep there? I also had no appetite for food. I paced the living room for a while then looked up as that device spoke.
"Lumikki?"
"Yes, BMO?"
"I'm sure Finn will be okay. He's a great hero."
"Yes, I know."
"Is there anything I can do for you?"
I stopped and stared at the device for several heartbeats. "Yes, show me the tapes from my father, please."
"As you wish." BMO walked over and pulled a box of tapes from the shelf then inserted one of these into his backside. It sat down and its face vanished from its display to be replaced with the face of a man who introduced himself as Simon Petrikov. This strange fellow talked on and on. He mentioned a crown, but he just sat there talking.
This was a lot tamer than the content Finn had said he had watched. I turned away.
"Lumikki?" BMO's face replaced the projection.
"Who is this Simon Petrikov?"
"He's your father."
"Surely not. He looks nothing like my father."
"Watch and see." BMO smiled then resumed the playback.
I stifled a yawn then stopped myself as I saw this Petrikov fellow hold up my father's crown. Where had he gotten it?
When BMO reached the end of the first tape I demanded he show me the next. As I watched I saw this Simon become more and more like my own father. My head grew heavy so I lay down on the couch and pulled a blanket over myself, as I continued watching. By the time we reached the last tape this Simon was very nearly my own father. I was too tired to go up to our bed so I just turned over on the couch.
"Goodnight, Princess."
"Goodnight, BMO." I drifted off to sleep.
I dreamed of the flames again and woke myself up as I thrashed out of the couch and landed on the floor.
"Lumikki?" BMO was standing there.
"Yes, I'm fine. Has Finn returned?"
"No, I haven't seen him or Jake."
"I guess I'm making breakfast for one then." I found myself famished after skipping the previous dinner and made enough for two, but finished it all myself.
Satisfied for the moment I turned to the device. "BMO, those tapes you played last night."
"Yes, the ones about your father."
"Yes, clearly it was him. How long ago?"
"Around a thousand years."
I blinked. It was a number I could hardly grasp. My books had told of armies that big, but surely my father was not that old. I shook my head. "No, it's just that Finn said he learned how to make love from those tapes. I hardly see how that can be."
"Oh, you mean THOSE tapes!" BMO turned and climbed up the ladder to the bedroom then pulled another box of tapes out from under our bed. I didn't see any nearby table for BMO to perch on so I lifted him up onto the bed, then placed the box of tapes next to him.
"So, Lumikki, which tape do you want to watch?" BMO smirked at me with his projected face.
"One that shows how a man makes love to a woman, of course."
"Okay." BMO loaded a tape into itself then sat down to play the movie, which consisted of a short plot spaced around several episodes of lovemaking. If only my Finn had that kind of endurance.
After the tape ended, BMO ejected the tape, then walked over to me. "Does it really feel that good when somebody touches you here."
I brushed the device's hand away from my body. "Show me the next tape."
As the tapes played on I saw many men with many women, but I was intrigued by the sequences that had two women, either by themselves or in addition to a man. I wondered what that would be like, to make love to another woman. I reached down towards my body, but was stopped by the sound of thunder. I looked out at the window. It was already dark again. Had I wasted an entire day? Rain begin to pelt at the window. The rhythm of it was so unlike the snow I had known all my life.
I walked over to the window and looked out into the night. Finn, where were you? Hopefully someplace safe from this strange storm. I looked down and saw a light flickering near our front door. What could it be? I went down the ladder and opened the door. The source of the light was a figure hunched over in a corner, surrounded by small flames.
The flames! I felt the pain in my chest, then forced my gaze back to the figure, that looked so pitiful. "You're from the Fire Kingdom, aren't you?"
The figure nodded.
"Then come inside, before you catch your death."
The figure spoke with a girl's voice. "Is Finn here?"
"No, he's off on a quest."
"Then I guess it's okay."
I stood well out of her way as she entered the room.
She stood there for a moment and her flames seemed to brighten a bit. She turned to me. "You must be a friend of Finn's?"
"I'm Finn's wife."
"What? He played those games on me then married you!" Her flames roared around her.
The flames! I had to escape, but how? She was between me and the front door and I'd never make it up the ladder. As I frantically scanned the room for some snow, my eyes settled on a shelf with bottles of liquid on it. I grabbed the largest one, uncapped it and splashed the liquid on the flame creature.
The crackle of her flames went out and the room filled with steam so dense I could barely see the bottle in my hands. I raised it to my face and read "Cyclops Tears" in Finn's crude handwriting.
I stood there quietly straining my ears, but heard nothing. Had I defeated the monster? Did this make me a hero? If so, was I to get some sort of treasure from my victory? I dismissed the tales from my books out of my mind.
As the steam thinned out I saw her. She had brilliant red hair, both on top of her head and between her legs. Her skin was a dusky hue, much redder and darker than Finn's, much less mine. As she stared hatred at me with eyes like rubies, I could see that she was very very lovely, and from her pose she was every bit a princess, except for not wearing any clothes of course.
"What? You dare!" She pointed the fingers of both hands towards me, then rotated them to look down at her palms. "What's wrong with me?" She collapsed sobbing to the floor.
I felt the pain in my chest as I watched her. I returned the bottle to the shelf and knelt down to gather her in my arms.
She continued to cry so I reached for her body and touched her in the ways Finn had comforted me.
She turned to me in shock and I kissed her, then I continued to touch her body. She looked down in surprise as I knelt between her legs and applied my tongue to her most sensitive spot. I soon found the proper rhythm and she gasped out.
I gathered her back in my arms and after a moment she recovered and turned to me. "What is this? What have you done to my body? I have never felt things like this. It is like a thousand times better than the feeling of burning things."
"It's making love. Would you like to try some more?" I smiled at her.
"What? Yes, but I thought you said you were married to Finn?"
I was taken aback for a moment. Had I betrayed Finn? Certainly not. Then what was this? "You are part of our marriage also."
"What?"
"Finn is a great prince. He has a wife..." I scanned the treasure on the floor until I found another ring that matched mine and Finn's. Then as a slipped this on her finger I continued. "And a concubine!"
"I, the princess of the Fire Kingdom, a mere concubine?"
"Where is this fire? Down here?"
She didn't resist as I reached down for her and even spread her legs a bit. "Yes, I am no longer a being of fire, so I am no longer a princess. Just call me Sholeh."
"A beautiful name, my love. It suits you." I kissed her. "And I am Lumikki." I stood and helped her to her feet. "So, Sholeh, princess of the grasslands, are you hungry?"
"Yes, I think? It's different than before. Also I feel, I don't know how to describe it, cold I think?"
"Ah, like Finn." I removed the bathrobe I had worn all day and wrapped it around her.
She stared at my nakedness for a moment and then blushed so cutely and turned away.
I kissed her cheek then led her upstairs to our dinning room and kitchen area. I had her sit while I prepared dinner for the two of us. As I cooked she told me of her on again, off again romance with Finn. Whenever she trailed off I'd glance back and catch her staring at my nakedness. Then she would blush, turn away and after a moment continue her story. I was only a little bit jealous. It was clear that it had only been the difference in their natures that had kept them apart. Now that this was no longer a problem, we three who loved each other could be happy together. It was after all the female parts that were the limiting factor. With Sholeh to help out we could have twice as many children.
Eating food was an entirely new process for her, so I sat next to her and fed her. Then after cleaning off her face I led her upstairs to our bed. It had been a bit cramped with just me and Finn, but we could surely get a bed big enough for three. I tried out some of the woman to woman techniques I had seen in the tapes. It wasn't as good as it had been with Finn, but it was satisfying in its own way. We drifted off to sleep in each other's arms, my treasure and I.
My sleep was undisturbed and I awoke refreshed. Well, why not? I had overcome the flames after all. I ran my hands along her lovely body then put my face to work on her private parts. She cried out as she awoke and wet herself over me.
She looked down and blushed. "Sorry about that."
"Here, let me show you how we take care of such things." I led her to the bathroom and coached her through the process of elimination. Then we showered together, our hands all over each other.
