'Mary Poppins? He actually called me Mary Poppins can you believe it?' Sam paced up and down the kitchen, gesturing wildly with the glass of wine she was hold veering wildly with it.
'Sam.'
'I like Cam, I do, but sometimes he's just a-'
'Pain in the ass, flyboy?' She turned and glared down at Jack who was lolling in one of the chairs, watching as she ranted, trying not to laugh at her. She pouted at him and giggled slightly, sitting down next to him.
'Yeah... I know he's not usually like that, but it's not like I'm brand new to the team, I was team leader before him, 9 years Jack, 9 years.'
'I was there for quite a bit of it.' Sam narrowed her eyes at the quip, and poked him in the stomach. He winced, mock glaring at her as some of his beer sloshed onto the table as a result of his wince.
'Besides, beats worrying about Daniel quite so much.' She shrugged taking a swig of wine and drawing doodles on the table with the beer. Jack, in the middle of getting the paper towels, paused and looked at her quizzically, leaning on the counter.
'He still weird?'
'Well, I think so, he's gotten very guarded. I think he was surprised by how much Vala's disappearance affected him.'
'I've never heard him complain so much about one person before in my life.' He rolled his eyes pulling a very irritated face and shook his head. Sam watched him clean up the mess, not helping, pulling one leg up under her and thinking. He even had to lift her hand to stop her from playing with the liquid, possibly having to bite down on a weary sigh.
'Kinda reminds of how he is when you're annoying him. It was nice to see him so... engaged with someone.'
'A woman?' He glanced up with one of the filthiest looks Sam had ever seen, wiggling his eyebrows at a pace her father would've been envious of.
'Yes.'
The look was followed by a dirty chuckle that had Sam blushing and ruing getting involved with a man who would get stuck in teenage mode after his childish mode.
'Just give him loads of coffee, Mitchell will probably get him hammered.'
'Must tell him to bring a camera if he does, I need his enlightenment bit on tape.'
'Get T to do it. Look Daniel will be fine, if Vala is half as determined and tenacious as he made her out to be, she'll be back for him.'
Sam had to agree, in the short time that she had known the vibrant alien thief, one of the strongest characteristics that had emanated from her was her stubborn nature.
'Sooooo, Mary Poppins? Does that beat Dorothy?'
'It means you're both idiots. Though Mary Poppins has a TARDIS bag, I'd like one.'
'No Doctor Who.' He held out one finger at her, eyes open wide, his right one twitching slightly.
'Ja-ack.'
'Nope.' He shot her a seriously look, which only deepened as she mock pouted at him, and then stuck her tongue out.
'You suck.'
'Yup, but you like me anyway.'
'That's debatable.'
'Now that's debatable.' They stared at one another, Sam's eyes narrowed, and Jack's back to his usual level of mischievous. Sam stood up, and started looking around Jack's new house curiously.
'This place is huge. I mean huge, Dad didn't get one of these when he got promoted to Major General.'
'I guess Hayes really likes me. It's weird. I miss my old place.' She barely heard him speak as she went exploring in the large house he'd recently acquired. Padding into the living room, toes stretching into the plush carpet, she continued to peer at the house.
'It's HUGE. Damn, even the TV is supersized.'
'One question, Daniel may have mentioned this is passing... Agent Barrett tried to ask you out?' Sam turned and looked at him, wincing slightly as she absorbed the question.
'Well he'd didn't actually try. He hedged.' She actually shut her eyes, head turning to the side as she winced. One eye cracked open and all that was to be seen was Jack leaning against the door frame face passive.
'Hedged?'
'Asked if I was seeing anyone.'
'Oh. You hate hedging.'
They both sat down on the couch, side by side and Sam felt safe in saying that this was one of the top three most awkward moments of her life. She looked up at the ceiling, face contorting into all sorts of embarrassed and uncomfortable expressions. After a while of tense silence she huffed, sitting straight up, scowling deeply.
'Daniel is such a blabbermouth. How he manages to keep his clearance I'll never know.'
'You should have told me! Also it's Daniel, what else are you expecting?'
'I- I was going to, but there was never the right time, and with work and trying to figure all of this out, I just didn't know how!' She tried to defend herself, gesturing wildly and bouncing irritably in her seat as Jack began to cackle at her. He was in fact bent over double, tears of laughter streaming down his face.
'You ass!' Sam smacked him round the back of the head jokingly, making to move away, but Jack's hands pulled her back down so she fell back onto her back as he continued to laugh at her. She sat back up and kicked his calf as he got up, wiggling his beer at her. She nodded in reply and started laughing as he swooped in and laid a kiss on the tip of her nose.
'Not exactly.' Jack continued to laugh as she flopped back onto the couch, groaning at her misfortune of have Daniel "Can't keep a thing to himself" Jackson as a friend.
