The Other Side

Chapter I (Part II)

'You can try…' It wasn't necessary to say to each other what they meant. Jennifer calmly went up and without indicating where she was going. When she climb down the stairs, carefully went search in the kitchen for her mother, Elizabeth, but she wasn't there like usually. Jennifer sighed, she was a little nervous about asking these things at her mother since she was very restrict with some rules, Jennifer had difficulty in her childhood when her school friends wanted her to participate in a sleepover, her mother kindly called to the other mothers and refused the inviting.

She went to the garden, hoping to see her treating the tulips or daisies, but once more she wasn't there so she went to the little storage hoping to find Mrs. Bell put the gloves with her usual smile or humming but instead she found the light off and some spider's web in the once cleaning and perfect gardening objects.

Jennifer stood there for a while, leaning in the wooden door, she remembered since Victoria was gone her mother lost the will to garden or to go outside and doing the thing for herself, now she just limited to do some magic over the gardening utensils and they made the work. It was easier and spared time but the brunette was accustomed to see her there with her hands full of earth and when she was little, Jennifer liked to help her mother planting new flowers, but now those happy memories were gone.

Without looking back she just closed the door and went to the next spot, her mother's room. She wasn't the only one who isolated herself in her room, her mother, after hearing about the news and cry for some time she liked to be alone in her room, trying to find her other daughter with her tarot cards.

Jennifer went to the hall and from there; she went straight only turning to her right after some steps. The door in front of her was closed and no sound was heard behind it so she concluded her mother was doing a reading to herself. She calmly knocked the door and it passed a few minutes until a voice was heard saying for her to enter, and she did what was told, opening the door she saw her mother seat in the end of the bed with a little and old wooden table, some tarot cards scattered on, Jennifer didn't even looked but her eyes caught "The tower". In a beautiful green and golden cage her mother's owl was inside sleeping peacefully.

'I'm sorry to interrupt you.' Jennifer told her eyes trying not to look at the little table with a bit of white coral on it. Mrs. Bell smiled kindly, patting the empty right seat next to her for her to seat and Jennifer did that, her eyes averting from her mother to the Jamaican owl in the cage sleeping.

'It's ok I was just seeing something.' Jennifer seat there and sighed knowing that her mother would explain what was in the cards and what she had asked. Of course the teenager didn't want to hear for different reasons. It wasn't necessary to Jennifer say a word for her mother understand what she was seeing, and with a smile she shook her head. 'This time it wasn't about her, but about you.'

'Me? I thought you only saw the card when I asked.' Jennifer told, feeling a shiver in her body when her brain made a deduction about "The Tower".

'Sorry but since your sister accident I had to see the cards at least once in a week.' Mrs. Bell told her, retraining the cards from the table and saving them in one of the many boxes she had, putting one coin together and putting the box away in her dresser. 'Your sister is doing alright but she is facing things she didn't expect to happen…' Jennifer didn't say a word when she heard that, at least Victoria was alright, and when she was about to open her mouth, ready to ask about Patricia, her mother interrupt her with a serious face on. 'Say to Alexis that her sister is doing alright. And if it wasn't both of them together, maybe they couldn't endure those terrible things.'

'Can I ask you something?' Jennifer told. Deep in her heart a question was making her somewhat strange. She knew that her sister and Patricia were ok and kind of 'lost' in there but with the time, she was afraid, they would change with the time, and something was telling her that even though her heart never wanted to touch in the subject. Mrs. Bell looked at her, her dark brown eyes looking right at her daughter one's seeing behind the glinting and life, she could notice a little of sadness in them. Hearing the silence between them, Jennifer continued. 'Had you seen some…change in her behavior? I mean not now obviously but in the future…'

Mrs. Bell eyes went wide, sometimes she were surprised by her own daughter. She smiled, ready to tell a lie because earlier she saw something that made her heart stop for some seconds and almost made her cry once again, but this time she could handle it. Victoria in the future was about to change, she didn't knew if for worst or for good but she was going to change and Patricia would suffer the same as her.

'I didn't see anything in that topic.' Mrs. Bell told trying to seem reliable and truthful, since her daughter used to sometimes distinguish when someone was lying or if something was out of order. When she looked at Jennifer she could see both sadness and anger in her eyes but didn't say a word. 'As for you I want you to be careful this year at Hogwarts.' She said, remembering what she saw in her cards, nothing too dangerous yet something bad was to come and she wanted to prevent something like that to her daughter.

Jennifer smiled and looked at her mother, showing her teeth while her hand covered the paled one of her mother. 'C'mon you know me for years and you know I can't do that…' She said playfully, and her mother raised an eyebrow not pleased with that answer.

'Jennifer as your mother I don't want you to be in trouble, you know how tired I am of receiving letters from Hogwarts saying what you had done.' She said but her daughter only laughed, remembering one of those precious moments. Let's just say that her summer wasn't definitely the best she had.

'If you tell me what kind of trouble I'll be facing this year I'll try to avoid it, promise it.' She said showing her hands and being serious, or at least trying to but deep down she knew that couldn't avoided it since she was Alexis and the Weasley twins friend.

'I can't tell you what is exactly but it's something bad and it's connected with other person. Besides this, something you do not expect will happen and I'm not giving you more information about this.' Mrs. Bell said smiling widely and getting up from the bed while Jennifer made a curious face about this last statement.

'What do you mean by that?' She aid but her mother just hummed and went outside leaving the door open and Jennifer, being the curious girl she was and a little noisy went to the door jamb and showed her head to the hall, her brown hair falling gracefully to one side. 'What do you mean by that?' She tried to yell but nothing happened her mother just continued humming and she just sighed, seeing Alexis climbing down the stairs with something in her hand and a very large smile in her face.

Both friends exchanged a look before Jennifer, with her eyes, gave the direction where her mother went and Alexis winked signaling she understood. So she slowly walked in the living room and saw her friend's mother seat in the sofa like she was already waiting for her there, with the TV on in some animal documentary. Alexis entered shyly with the bag in her hand and smiled when Mrs. Bell decided to peek who was there.
