Chapter 10

Sakura fluffed her hair outside the apartment door. It was her second visit since it happened, and she wanted be more supportive to her best friends. She knocked loudly, hoping she wasn't interrupting a moment. After a while the door creaked open slowly.

Naruto was wearing a shirt that she knew from first glance belonged to Sasuke.

"Hey!" she stretched a wrapped box towards his face, "Happy belated anniversary!"

He looked behind him then stepped aside so she could pass. "Umm, thanks." He laughed nervously.

"So… Um, how are you? Is Sasuke on a mission?"

"No, uh, he's taking a bath."

"Oh." She sat on the chair then smiled reassuringly. "So how are you this fine morning?"

"Fine." He toyed with the box, "What's this?"

"Oh that?" She giggled, "You two should open it together. It's from the girls. We thought you'd... Um, appreciate it."

The blonde was uncomfortable in her presence, but he knew she didn't notice.

"Umm… so h – how's the baby? Lady Tsunade wanted a report."

"Ok. I don't even remember it's there sometimes." He smiled sheepishly. On the inside, he was reminding himself Sakura was harmless. She' my girl best friend. And she would never hurt me in this condition. But despite what he thought, he had a tingly feeling that she was about to tear him apart.

"Oh, that's wonderful. I'll have to tell her that. Anyways, I'll have to -"

"Naru!"

Sakura looked around, "Was that a child?"

"Daichi – kun, I'm with someone, give me a minute!" he called out, the sound of the child's voice immediately made him feel better.

"Is it a pretty girl?" the little voice yelled out.

"Who is it?" Sakura got up and turned towards the hall, "Can I go see?"

"Umm, he's not really well…'

"Take me to him." It wasn't a question, and he didn't know why he thought it ever was.

Her tone of voice had him flinching and unconsciously getting defensive.

That she noticed, and she apologized right away.

He led her to his room, it wasn't the first time she'd been in his room, but it was the first time it had ever been so clean and nice smelling.

"Where is he?" she squinted her eyes. He turned o the switch, then brightened the dimmed lights, since the windows were sealed and the curtains drawn.

She stared in awe at a three or four year old toddler, sprawled on the bed a lollipop in his mouth.

He stared up at her in mock wonder, "Hello, you have a large forehead." He then giggled uncontrollably.

Her eye brow twitched. "NARUTO! What are you teaching him?"

Said blonde only backed out of the room as she shouted more.

"You're pwetty though." He had the largest eyes she had ever seen, and his boyish charm melted her heart and turned it to mush. She was already becoming a fan of the adorable rash child.

"Thanks. Where are you from?" she moved to sit next to him but noticed his thigh. "How did you get hurt?"

"It doesn't hurt unless I move." He rolled on his stomach, then a wince and groan marred his happy features, "See?"

"Don't do that. Naruto, where is he from?"

"We found him outside the apartment early yesterday."

"Do you have a family?"

"I can't remember." He looked away slowly.

"Are you from this village?"

"I think so. I've been searching for my family since I woke up. But I don't know where to find them."

"It's ok, do you want me to fix your leg?"

"My leg?" he had an annoyed look on his face, 'Why?"

"I'm a medic ninja."

"Oh." He looked at Naruto and the blonde nodded, he knew the child did not want his leg fixed. He would just harm himself more.

"Daichi, you need to go back to sleep."

"No. I have to sleep all the time –"

"Let's go back outside Sakura; Sausu- teme already patched it up fine."

"Bye Dai-chan." She waved happily.

"Later big head."

"I need to report to the hospital soon, so I'll just get to the point. I need to give you a check up. I'll leave the use of my chakra for last, to give you time to be ready for it. Ok?"

"Ok," he breathed deeply to stop the fear from overtaking him, "Just wait til' Sasuke is done. Do you want something to drink, or a snack?"

"That's fine. Thanks."

Stepping from the shower, Sasuke hurriedly got dried and dressed. He knew why Sakura was here but he wanted to give the dobe some personal space… well, that's what he convinced himself. He could hear the Kyubii child gasp from pain every few seconds, and he couldn't help but be disturbed by it. He knew that the boy was demon, but this was beyond the little details he had expected. The demon child thirsted for pain and blood. Even if it were his own.

He walked towards the hall from his bedroom.

"I know you're scared Naruto, but you have me, remember? I'm Sakura nee-chan, ok?"

The blonde forced a smile, it was so real to her, she smiled brightly as well.

"So how's your morning sickness?"

"It doesn't really bother me."

"Good, do you eat anything special for it?"

"If it happens, then yes."

"Well then, I'll start now." And light green chakra was around her fingers. Sakura was about to look at him when she felt a hard force drive her away. Naruto was looking at her like he was about to rip her in pieces.

Sasuke rushed over to them quickly. He wasn't surprised to see Naruto holding at his abdomen protectively while Sakura was across the room leaning against the wall and panting heavily.

"Should I even ask?" he knelt next to his blond then embraced him closely.

"I just told him I'd start the check up. And he threw me over here!"

"He doesn't like to be touched in his condition, Sakura; I thought we already established this."

She sighed then got up slowly, "We need to monitor his progress."

"Then use the machines." He snapped. The blonde was wrapped around his torso, his legs wrapped around his waist provocatively.

"They're not reliable enough." She stayed at a safe distance.

"P-please don't…"

"Shh, I'm here, like always." He didn't want Sakura or anyone else to see his vulnerability. "Look, he's not a woman; he's not even completely human. Consider his instincts when you come by; the Kyubii is overly confident in its abilities; Naruto doesn't trust anybody else to handle this right now. Give him some time. I'm sure it was just maternal, if I may so, instincts that made him push you away."

She nodded, "Naru-" he looked up slowly, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to… err… I'm sorry for not taking all this into consideration." She settled her eyes on Sasuke's, "You better learn all these jutsus or something. Tsunade- sama will not allow this any further if she cannot see the progress." She moved past them and towards the door, grateful that the Uchiha didn't have anything to say.

"See you at the exams tomorrow."

A/N

There wasn't much going on between them in this chapter.

I'll make it up a lemon in the next chapter. Give me your inputs on the story. Do you think I'm overdoing Naruto's vulnerability too much?

Please tell me in the reviews. And no flames. :)
