The Other Side

Chapter I (Part III)

Both friends exchanged a look before Jennifer, with her eyes, gave the direction where her mother went and Alexis winked signaling she understood. So she slowly walked in the living room and saw her friend's mother seat in the sofa like she was already waiting for her there, with the TV on in some animal documentary. Alexis entered shyly with the bag in her hand and smiled when Mrs. Bell decided to peek who was there.

'Hello Alexis, do you need something? I made some brownies earlier, so you want me to give you?' She asked already standing up from the sofa but Alexis, after snapping out about the brownies, refused the offer and went to Mrs. Bell side, landing the bag between her feet. Mrs. Bell was surprise for Alexis refusing the brownies.

'Well I'd like to talk with you, if you don't mind of course.' She said a bit nervous, her hands folded in her lap. Alexis knew too well this was about to be difficult, even if she said it was easy and Mrs. Bell was a sweet woman, it was difficult since Jennifer's mother was a very protective woman and when she had something in her head it was difficult to remove it or change it.

'Of course I don't mind, I'm just a little surprised for you being so serious, I never saw you like this before.' Mrs. Bell told looking at her with a warm smile and bright brown eyes filled with curiosity.

'Well…it's because it's a serious matter.' She said trying to seem relax and smiling goofily at the woman in front of her. It was incredible how Mrs. Bell could be so sweet yet so imposing and respectful, said woman eyebrow rose lightly, all her attention was in Alexis, who carefully was choosing the better way to convince her. 'Well as you might know sometimes Jennifer and I receive letters from the Weasley twins and sometimes from Dumbledore himself.' She started trying to associate in her head a good explanation.

Mrs. Bell, didn't said a word, she knew too well about those letters firstly because Jennifer asked her years before if she could spend the summer in other place but all the times Mrs. Bell refused. So putting one and one together she thought this tie it was Alexis who would do the request, though she didn't dared to interrupt.

'And I know it's useless to say what I'm going to ask but this time it's a really serious matter.' Alexis told, looking with her serious gray eyes to Mrs. Bell who was expressionless but hearing carefully. ' This time Dumbledore asked Jennifer, me and many others if we could spend the Summer in other house.'

'Which house?' Mrs. Bell finally spoke, catching Alexis out of guard. Because like in Jennifer's letter, Dumbledore, wrote that someone would lead her to the house until then the girls wouldn't know where it be situated.

'Well…' Alexis told a little nervous and making Mrs. Bell raise, once more, raised her eyebrow in suspicion and crossed her legs. 'It's confidential but people will came for us and take us there.' The poor brunette swore seeing one corner of Mrs. Bell mouth turn down signaling how hard she was biting all her words.

'Alexis, I don't have anything against you but I always said to you and I'll repeat once more my words. Jennifer won't go anywhere this summer and even if the minister wrote the letter.' Alexis was about to interrupt her but before she could even say the first word, Mrs. Bell hold a finger in front of her and sighed. 'If the times were others maybe I could think twice about the matter but after all that happened to us I won't reconsider another choice.'

'Please have an exception. I know you are afraid that something happens to Jennifer and then you lose her but please don't forget I'll be there and the others to.' Alexis told, now her body turned to face Mrs. Bell completely. In her eyes a serious and protective layer could be seen and he gray eyes seemed to turn even grayer resembling one beautiful storm in the sea. This only happened when she was taking the things seriously and the only person witnessing this was Jennifer, and right after seeing her determination, Mrs. Bell smiled and relaxed a bit.

'I know that…and that's why I'm going to talk with your mother and have a serious talk with her because knowing as I know her she don't see the danger she's putting you.' Mrs. Bell said seriously and ready to get up but Alexis was faster than her and jumped from the sofa and grabbed the woman's arm carefully making her seat again and look at her.

'Please don't, Mrs. Bell.' Alexis told and Mrs. Bell knew too well why the girl wanted to stop her from talking with her mother. A serious look went to her face while she got up, this time when the teenager looked at the woman in front of she felt a shiver travelling from up to down her body.

Before disappearing, Mrs. Bell looked at Alexis with serious brown eyes.

'I won't say a word to your mother but you and Jennifer went go anywhere. And I'm sorry if I'm being the bad one here but you have to see the thing from my eyes. I won't risk Jennifer's health and yours to, even if it's just to go pass the Summer away. We have to be careful.' She told in a serious, yet, caring tone making Alexis understand the situation.

'Can I ask you something?' She asked, without noticing. Unconsciously, the brunette's eyes turned to a pleading glare like a little puppy that needed help yet it held so much determination and curiosity that made Mrs. Bell stop walking and look once more at her. 'Please reconsider your answer. I think Jennifer needs to go at another place…I'm not saying to where they want us but like some other place. And you know too well why I'm saying this.' She told before smile a little.

Mrs. Bell didn't said a word, instead she went to the garden, closing the door behind her with a little more violently than necessary making the little owls from the wind chime move dangerously. Alexis didn't said a word or moved, her lips were in a thin line while mentally she thought in ways to convince Jennifer's mother to accept the request.

She looked once more at the living room, mentally facing palming herself for forget to give Mrs. Bell the present and thinking in how it would be a little easier if she had remembered to give it, still she went to the couch and grabbed the bag from the flour, ready to go upstairs and tell "news".

Without knocking Alexis entered in her friend's room and seeing her glued at the book she was reading much earlier. With an upset face she propped down the bag and sat in the bed, crossing her arms in her chest and looking at the wall.

Jennifer, who succeed in go to her room right before the talk, didn't needed to look from the book to see how much frustrated Alexis was she just smirked and put down the book, her arms circled her knees and she rested her head in them.

'I finally understand where you find you stubbornness.' Alexis said before plop in the bed, her arms stretched while she faced the ceiling a long sigh came from her chest while Jennifer couldn't help but smile at her.

'I told you so. But it was a good effort and, for that, you deserve a reward.' She said before extending her arm to her desk and grab the golden can with a picture of a woman with the body of a butterfly, the label saying Madame Borboleta. She cautiously threw it at Alexis, who was able to catch without an effort, and opened the lid and started to eat the butterflies sugar winds quickly.

'She's not going to change her mind easily.' Alexis told and Jennifer was about to say the same old comment «I told you so. » but thought twice before, only nodding while she opened once more her book. 'She even prohibited me from going.'

'You're at my home, what did you expect? She always saw you like a third daughter and always comments with me how reckless your mother is.' Jennifer told while trying to find her page. Her friend only raised an arm in agreement.

'Yeah I know…but my moral isn't down yet!' She said straighten herself and looking with a cheerful look at her friend who just smiled while turning to the next page. Like always the candies seemed to have some kind of an awakening effect on her. 'I think we can persuade her and if we can't then I have a feeling the ones who'll come to take us will do our job.'

'Well I have something that tells me you are right.' She said after closing once more the book. Strangely she found the reading quiet monotone and bored, and a strange wave of fatigue rising in her. She looked at Alexis for moments and tried to follow what she was saying but after three minute, and Alexis still talking non-stop about all the type of things, she just nodded and put herself comfortable under the blankets being drafted to sleep after a few minutes being her friends voice the lullaby.

And it was incredible. For the first day she could remember being at home and after the disappearance of her sister she found herself calm and sleeping peacefully, nothing came to her mind and that made her sleep well the dreams being afraid of appear but she didn't even cared about it.
