That day was horrifying. It was dead silent between all of them. Everyone refused to talk, and they couldn't believe that they lost two..Two soldiers. They were so strong. And yet, even though they may seem the best, they may also perish to their deaths if they were not careful. Three. There were three gone, now. Forever. Marco rested next to Jean after Reiner wrapped the bandages carefully around his head. He was comforted by the fact of Jean being safe.
Eren cried on his bed while Mikasa and Armin were comforting him. He seemed to be the most affected. Large amounts of snot blew out of Eren's nose as he cried into his sheets. His face and eyes were red, and his whole face was wet from tears and snot.
"Dammit...Already three are gone!" More tears poured out of his eyes.
"Eren, like I said, we will stay alive. I'll protect you no matter what the cause..." Mikasa said calmly to him.
"You don't understand, Mikasa. You don't know how many that I have seen die in front of my eyes." He pushed her slightly away from him. All those that fell before him; the Special Operations Squad, the squad he had to be in with Armin when they were trainees, and all the other soldiers in the Scouting Legion...Eren's heart broke apart each time he saw one of them die.
"I understand you, Eren." She made him look straight into her eyes. "And you're going to be okay, got that?"
Eren sighed and nodded his head to her. Armin tried to smile, and to lighten up the mood of the place.
"Yeah, I'm sure that we'll get out of here...! No matter what!" He put his arm around Eren's shoulders to comfort him. It was hard trying to smile in a time like this. But, it was like this in the Scouting Legion expeditions...Having so many soldiers die. They should've been used to this kind of thing already.
All the others were pretty worn out, and were resting in the chairs near the table. Annie covered her face with her hair. Levi did the same and let out a slightly irritated sigh.
'If my intuition is right, one of us will die next...' He thought to himself. 'I can't really guess who it is, and hopefully it will only be one that will die. Who really is going to get out of this damn mansion?'
"Let's take a rest," Reiner suggested to the cadets. "You know...to get at least a little more energy for the next time we explore this...horrid place." He took a deep sigh.
"Yeah, Eren. Let's just take a rest for now." Mikasa laid him down on his bed and went to hers. "It's been a rough day..."
Armin tucked him in and layed in his own bed, face up. He wasn't feeling comfortable, so he sat up and grabbed a book that was leaning on his bed. With an interested expression, he read the book. It was rather thick, about five hundred pages long. It's cover was a red color with gold letters. Eren couldn't really read the words, since he was become drowsy. He let out one final yawn and snuggled inside his blanket, leading to sleep.
"Arlert, what's that you're reading?" Levi stood next to his bed. His facial expression was a bit softer than usual.
"Oh, nothing special. It's just a story." Armin replied to the captain. He smiled. "Resting now?"
Levi nodded in reply with a small grunt. He took his jacket off and slowly laid on his bed, trying to get comfortable.
"Well then...Have good dreams!"
"I highly doubt that I will."
It was about twilight when everybody woke up; it was only the afternoon when they took a nap. Jean let out a large yawn while rubbing his eyes. Marco was next to get up, and soon everybody else did.
Eren had some trouble getting out of bed. His eyes looked uneven and were still a bit poofy from the crying. He had bedhead, and stumbled trying to walk over to the table, where some of the soldiers were sitting. Mikasa raised her scarf to cover her mouth, and was sitting next to Armin, who widened his eyes and smiled a bit when he saw Eren wake up.
"...You're not crying this time. Did you have a good dream?" Armin's hands rested on Eren's shoulder as he helped him sit down. Mikasa stood up and helped Eren pat his hair down.
"Well, not exactly. It's almost like I had no dream at all." Eren furrowed his eyebrows, trying to concentrate on whether he had a dream or not. It hurt his head, so he decided to put that thought to the side and concentrate on the mansion and survival.
"Marco and Jean, you guys are hurt, so leave the cooking and food to us." Reiner stood up from his chair to cook food for them. Annie also stood up and joined him. They were able to make curry instead of the soup that Marco usually made. The vegetables were perfectly cut, and it smelled delicious to the trainees. If Sasha or Connie were there, they would've said how good it smelled, but they weren't there, anymore..
Marco let Jean lean on him to support his walking and helped with his breathing. There were still some slight spots of blood on Marco's face from the bleeding, and Jean was doing okay overall. They were relieved to see eachother safe and sound.
"Jean, I'm sorry for making you get hurt instead of me," Marco said as he sat down next to Jean at the dining table. He really did feel guilty.
"I-it's not your fault, Marco. It's that stupid monster..." Jean got slightly angry as he pictured it in his head, and looked away from Marco. "Well, at least we're both okay..."
Reiner called over to them. "They curry is done!" He walked over to them to serve it; Annie followed him shortly.
All of them were eating while discussing what would happen next. They were more cautious, even more than before. Coming to this mansion was supposed to be a fun event for them, so they could relax. This "fun event" was now horrifying.
"Maybe some should stay here, you know, like Marco and Jean. They don't seem in the right shape to be going out of this room and exploring the mansion. Plus, if that monster appears again..." Armin said with a concerned look on his face. "I volunteer to stay with these two until you guys come back, to support them. I think the strongest of us should go, like Captain Levi."
Levi let out a low grunt, and stood up. "Alright then. Then who will come explore this mansion?"
"We will." Eren and Mikasa stood in unison. Eren seemed to be angry, and Mikasa was as calm as usual.
"We'll stay and help Marco and Jean recover more." Reiner put his hand on Annie's shoulder and faced the three. He grinned. "You'll find out more information about this damned place, right? I know you will."
"Wait...Don't you think we'll forgetting someone, or maybe two people?" Armin scratched his head trying to remember. "Who are we forgetting...? Ymir..and Christa!"
"No wonder it felt like some of us were missing." Levi put his gear on quickly and walked to the door in a fast pace. "We'll try to find them. We can't afford to lose anymore of us around here."
"They must've disappeared while we were taking Bertholdt's body to that room," Armmin
"I swear, I'll kill that monster..." Eren mumbled to himself while putting his gear on. "Ah!" His foot got stuck in a few of the belts.
Mikasa glanced at Eren, and helped him fix his gear. In the next few minutes she put her own 3DMG on. The three walked out the door into the wide mansion. It felt a bit colder than usual, and there was blood from Sasha's and Connie's body. The thing was, their bodies' weren't where they would have been. It was like they teleported because nobody else could've moved their bodies. Ymir and Christa were missing, so they could've done it. But, the trio highly doubted it.
"So, anything we need to check out?" Eren asked in a concerned way while walking over to the other side of the room.
"I wanna see where the brats' bodies are, and if I guessed right, they're in that little room like the corpse of Hoover." Levi furrowed his eyebrows slighty, thinking about if he was really going to die in this place. But really, who would die next? That thought kept going into Levi's mind.
"Yeah...Let's check it out."
The three walked alongside eachother, with Eren in the middle of them. They walked in silence to the hole in the wall, which led to the room with the corpses.
"Aha...So they are here.." Levi muttered to himself. The corpses were lying side by side on separate tables.
Eren stared in horror, Sasha was still in one piece, but Connie...he was decapitated. His head laid on the floor, and his eyes were dull. There was blood sort of oozing out of his neck, slowly; the clothes were stained heavily, too. Sasha's eyes were closed, and a single tear ran down her face, as if she was crying this whole time. There was no blood on her, so they guessed that she died a less painful death than Connie. Bertholdt was still there; just as lifeless as the other two.
Mikasa put her hand on Eren's shoulder, giving him a reassuring look that told him that he would be okay. He looked back with teary eyes, but soon wiped them off with his sleeve. A few sniffles were able to come out of his nose.
They stayed in there for about ten minutes. Eren felt like his chest was getting heavy, so Mikasa tried to help him feel better. Levi soon walked out of the room with a dark expression. Of course, beneath that neutral expression was a person full of sorrow for the ones that lost their lives. Even his own squad...
They walked around the hallways, trying to find keys that would open rooms that were locked. The walls of the hallways were pure white, and Levi slightly enjoyed how clean they were. It looked like nothing could ever stain it. The first floor was pretty spread out, and had more locked rooms than any of the other floors.
The three walked back into the kitchen and examined the door the Connie had tried to open. Eren opened it, expecting it to be locked, but it actually opened. Eren stumbled back a little, but was able to regain his balance quickly.
Inside the room, there was a crumpled piece of paper lying on the ground, and right next to it a key. Mikasa picked up the key and put it in her pocket, while Eren picked up the note. The note had scribbly letters written on it, and small drawing like what a little kid would draw. The letters were a bit hard to read, but it read, "Good luck." The drawing on it was outlined with blue and black colors, with a creepy smile on the face. It seemed to be a human or a monster of some sorts. Levi walked over to Eren and took a good look at it.
"Creepy..." Eren stared at it with widened eyes. Levi just shrugged and looked around the walls. While he was walking around, he saw a bit of the wall peel over.
"Ackerman, Yeager. I might've found something." He called them over to him. The other two stood behind him, cautious of what might pop up from behind the peeling.
Well, something awkward happened. Levi wasn't able to reach up on the peeling it seemed to be too tall even if he tiptoed. He stared at the peel in the wall with a look of anger and disgust. His eyebrows were furrowed as he stood in a sassy stance.
"Damn wall..." He muttered to himself.
"L-let me help you with that, Captain..." Eren smiled slightly as if to tease him for his height. Levi huffed and looked away in frustration. Mikasa, on the other hand, looked at Levi in amusement, which led to the two glaring at eachother. The short captain sighed in annoyance and stepped to the side.
Eren tip-toed to reach the peeling, and quickly ripped it off. It had a wooden door behind it. It was locked, which wasn't surprising.
"Well, this one's locked too." Eren turned around to look at Mikasa and Levi. They stood quietly in the room for a few minutes without talking to eachother. Mikasa narrowed her eyes as she looked over at the door handle. She walked over it it, and twisted it. Two, three, four times she twisted the knob, and the door opened.
"The door was jammed.." She said as she walked in. '...I also kind of wonder how the others are doing.'
