"How is she Bianchi?" I asked, checking up on Chrome after Reborn had patched up my head and explained to me what the hell was going on. I was worried for her safety, since I found it strange that she collapsed that easily, just because of a couple of little illusions that should have been easy as pie.
"She's stabilized." She told me, feeling relieved. In contrast with her past self, this Bianchi shared more empathy. I mean, sure, she tried to help me, but I never saw her like this to anybody else except Reborn, Hayato and I. Bianchi's feelings stretched as much as her arms could go, meaning that she kept to herself a lot back in my timeline.
But just because she had become nicer, or that I'd had a concussion without noticing, none of that meant that I wasn't blind. That didn't mean that I couldn't notice the ways they the others glanced. Her eyes softened as she looked my way, and I craned my head to the side.
Funny.
She'd learned how to control her thoughts.
"Thank goodness…..I was really worried that she gone and did something…"
"She's not out of the woods yet." Bianchi said and I followed her out of the infirmary, one which looked like the one back home at the base. "I'm still concerned about her health in the future."
So she's not okay at all… I frowned. Al nudged my arm, the one that was closest to his head and looked up, his tongue dangling out slightly. He did that whenever his tummy was rumbling.
Cheer up He thought. Not all hope is lost. We ended up alive, didn't we?
"Alive isn't enough." I whispered. "I want everyone to be safe."
"Outta the way! Move it move it!"
I barely had time to jump to the side, almost being run down by Lambo and I-pin. On their heads they carried baskets filled with fresh produce. Tomatoes, carrots. Coming from a place like this, I wondered if the place had been introduced to a cultivating system. It wouldn't be much of a surprise if it did, but instead, it would make life much easier. You wouldn't have to go out to get food and with the food sources here already, there was a reduced threat of being attacked by enemies.
The Millefiore was a family that had stuck itself into my brain like a post-it note. Ever since Reborn had explained the situation, I had been on constant alert. Of course, that lovely man had given us such a good first impression that I'd never forget. I'm sure Chrome won't either, if she woke up or even remembered.
We followed the children to what turned out to be a kitchen. I didn't realise how hungry I was till the automated doors opened, letting the smell of a beefy stew waft out. The girls, Kyoko and Haru were here as well, much to my surprise.
"I've brought a lot over!" I-pin called.
"Woah! That's great!" Haru yelled, turning around. Her eyes widened. "Phillipa!"
Haru jumped over to hug me and Al wriggled out of my arms before she did. Kyoko joined in, everyone here apparently extremely happy to see me.
"What are you doing here?" Kyoko asked.
Um…
"Holiday."
"Holiday?" She repeated.
I nodded. "Yeah. My boss told me I was working too hard, so he sent me on a holiday! So I thought I'd come and see you guys since I had so much fun here last time!"
They smiled brightly and I asked them if they were ready yet.
"Not for a while." Kyoko said waringly, holding a knife along it a daikon, one of my lesser favourite vegetables. Kyoko was a fairly mellow teenager, but whenever she was troubled - undoubtedly due to Ryohei's extreme actions - or thinking hard, her eyes would crinkle at the sides. She'd hold her breath and puff her cheeks up, much like how Dino would whenever he didn't get his way. "The stock's being cooked at the moment. It'll be another hour till we start cooking the meat!"
I patted her shoulder as the children ran around and around the kitchen more before settling onto the table, setting aside the vegetables into separate groups. We said our goodbyes as the girls hugged us once more and set off down the hallway once again.
We came to the meeting room, as I'd been quickly informed, and waited inside for the others. When Bianchi and I had been to visit Chrome, a meeting had been called by the order of Ryohei. Yet again, his loudness still astounded me, however with age, his loudness has mellowed soundly, and the man spoke in reasonable tones.
My back arched backwards as I was attacked with a headlock, trying to slip out of his/her grip. The attacker was slightly taller than me. Judging that it would be nearly impossible for me to slip away, I tried bending over, hands gripped on the arms tightly.
Massive fail.
When that didn't work either, I gave up and resorted to something that Al would go for, and pretty much be okay with for doing it for the rest of his life.
I licked the arm of my attacker - now a woman, I realised, judging by the smell of her skin and long hair - and she released her hold; desperately wiping away the slobberfest I gave to her as a welcome gift. Welcome to the world of Phillipa Marsh, whoever you are. I hope you get out less sane than you came in.
Oh wait, it was just Lal.
She's already crazy.
"Really Phillipa, licking?!" She howled, drying off her arm. I found it grossly unfair that she had grown to be taller than me, in the short amount of time it was. (Like everyone else.) Ten measly years seemed to go so slowly when I didn't think about it. "You're worse than Reborn!"
"In what way, annoyingness? Because I can tell you now that I'll win hands down every time. I was born that way baby."
She grumbled out a reply. With hands curled and eyebrows pressing down harder than an elevator button, I couldn't help but laugh at her as she thought that I hadn't changed one bit. I laughed even harder because I was thinking the exact same thing.
A tall male - one that was probably only just passing into the adult stage of his life - smiled widely behind her, protected from being attacked by her for doing so. He wore a scarf and his brown eyes thinned with happiness. The way his hair parted was almost adorable.
That was something that made my skin crawl.
Did I know this fellow?
"It's good to see you're still the same Sister." He spoke, smiling through his teeth with closed eyes. He pointed to himself as Lal barged past he and sat herself down on the sofa. "Do you remember me?"
"What are you, a salesman? Get outta here."
I shook my head bashfully. "Sorry, I don't…...but you look sort of familiar…"
His smiled dropped and he blinked. "That's sad…...I'm Fuuta."
"FUUTA!" I repeated, not believing it. No way! Fuuta back in my time was like, what, ten? So he would be, what, twenty? There's no way t - no actually, there's a great chance that the dude is who he says he is.
"Well, the last time you saw me, I was still small."
"No fair…" I said, pouting. I put my hand on the top of his head and moved it to mine, only causing the proof that I already needed to be so so sad."You're not allowed to grow taller than me."
He chuckled at my silliness, and I went to sit down on the arm of the couch adjacent to Lal as everyone else who had been in the control room swept in. From what I could tell right then, Tsuna, Hayato, Reborn, Yamamoto, The kids, Chrome, Hibari and I were right now the only ones to have been transported. Giannini, Bianchi, Ryohei, Lal and whoever that funny haired guy was were the ones in this timeline.
I felt rather concerned for Al's safety. I was, of course, protective over him since he was practically another brother to me, and always will be. But he doesn't like the future. For one thing, it's rare for cats to live extremely long lives in these conditions, but I got the idea. He liked what he liked. A sour taste filled my mouth whenever I tried to picture myself in the future.
What am I like, I pondered.
Why hadn't I seen Fuuta for a while?
Was I meaner?
Was, was Dino still alive?
Shit.
"Kyoko and the rest went to cook for us, right?" Tsuna asked Ryohei, as the grey haired man crossed his arms across his chest, wondering how to speak about this. Tsuna didn't want the girls to overhear us, as well as the children.
"We ran into them on the way here." I said, resting my chin on the palm of my hand. It felt weird to talk and feel my jaw at the same time. "So you're free to say what you can Ryohei and not be overheard."
He nodded. "Right. I'll talk now while I can. Regarding a certain issue….I was sent towards the Varia by the Tenth's orders. At that moment, the hunt for the Vongola had already started."
Brief flashes of Manhunt tainted my vision, and I blinked them away, sitting back on the sofa arm.
"M-My orders?" Tsuna asked.
"The you, ten years later." Ryohei explained. "The information that you guys were coming over from ten years ago was received by the Varia from a certain information source. I knew about it from there. Those who know about it are some of the surviving members of the Vongola…..and the top level Alliance families."
"Alliance families?" I asked. "That's Dino, right? Is he okay?"
Ryohei smiled after a second of pausing. "Yes! He's fine, of course!"
I smiled in relief along with Tsuna as Ryohei kept talking.
"Then, assuming that you guys really are here," - What? We're not already? - ", the family has planned for a large scale attack. The instructions to us down here is this; Five days later, destroy the Millefiore's branch facility in Japan."
So they're planning a base attack...I thought, scratching Al's stomach as he rolled around in my lap. Planning one of those is a hefty task. You have to keep careful to watch of your own men as well as the opponents….Did things get that dire?
It's no use...Reborn thought, muttering out loud as he did so. You getting this Phillipa?
Yes, it's quite sudden….
The last thing we needed was this.
Yes, I'm weeell aware of that. Not the best time to pop up, but ya know, these things happen.
Yes I know that. You did the exact same thing.
"Five days later…" Hayato muttered, looking at Ryohei with determination.
"That's the strategy of the Vongola Family and the Alliance Family. There's a need to gather all of our manpower to join the fight."
Tsuna was still loyal to who he was. He didn't want at all to believe that this was by his orders. Not yet, that is, but he's still a loving soul. Not one that has been whipped into shape by the mafia. "How can that be. Saying this all of a sudden."
Ryohei continued to speak. "But if we miss any chances, we wouldn't know when we'd be able to attack the Millefiore again."
"It makes sense Tsuna. When you're on your feet, you've gotta run with what you have."
"We don't even know when this hideout will be discovered by the enemy." Lal admitted. This was the child/woman/monster that trained Colonnello after all. "It's better to strike quickly."
"But somehow….participating in this Mafia fight is different from our objective."
Something in Lal's eyes changed. "Our objective is to defeat Irie Shouichi, isn't it? It's the same as our strategy."
"But!"
Reborn spoke up as Bianchi held him in her arms. "Not only that, since Ryohei brought Chrome here, the first condition I've mentioned has already been fulfilled."
"Conditions?"
"To gather all of the Tenth's Guardians, right!"
"Come to think of it, all of us are assembled!"
"Are you an idiot or something?" Yamamoto asked, rather hypocritically.
Hayato t'ched. "Idiot, don't say such brainless stuff! This is our destiny as the Vongola guardians! It has brought all seven of us together!"
Ryohei sighed. He must be tried. "Well, there's more stuff I'd like to say, but let's leave it at that. Listen Sawada. This strategy involves the survival of the Vongola and is very important. However, whether or not to execute it is up to you!"
"...and some have greatness thrust upon them…" Al recited, as we both studied the drama unfolding. "...Starfish doesn't have a chance….."
"Don't be so anal." I whispered, nobody hearing me.
"Me?" Tsuna repeated.
Ryohei, this Ryohei, was good at controlling his emotions now. But however, that didn't stop me from seeing the doubt in his eyes. I wanted to believe that Starfish would get through this with his head high, but I knew that no matter, he'd be brought down by his constant refusals of disbelief. "Now, the Vongola's upper echelon is in chaos, and they don't want to rely on you guys. The Varia emphasized that they only belong to the Ninth's team. They won't terminate the attack based on your opinion. However, I told them to the extreme that whatever the decision is made in this hideout, it would be from its master, the Tenth Vongola's decision."
"You've matured, Ryohei." Reborn smiled and I felt a compassion from Ryohei whenever he looked at Tsuna, who in this future, was dead. He missed his leader. That's sweet of him.
"The deadline is today." He said, as Tsuna squealed. "If you wish to terminate the attack, I'll convey the message." Ryohei gripped Tsuna's shoulder. "I'll be counting on you, Sawada!"
"W-Wait a minute!"
"We'll leave it to you, Tsuna." Yamamoto smiled.
"We'll follow Juudaime wherever he goes!"
Fuuta looked on. "Brace yourself, brother."
Lal's eyes had changed yet again, and as Ryohei left over the sound of Tsuna's panicking, I closed my eyes and heard what he said. What he directed to Lal and Lal alone - that nobody except Reborn, Lal and I heard - was this; Regarding what happened to my Master, I'll speak about that later.
Did something happen to Colonnello?
Or to all of the Archeballeno?
I hoped not.
"Well now!" He yelled. "I'll eat and sleep to the extreme!"
"S-Stop! How can you! I'm very frustrated! R-Ryohei!" Tsuna called, but it was too late. When Ryohei made up his mind - much like the way his sister did- he became irrefutably stubborn as hell. "What shall I do Reborn?! The responsibilities too great!"
"The boss shouldn't be speaking in such a shameful tone."
I sighed and got up to rest my head on the top of Tsuna's, only realising then how soft his hair was. "You need to toughen up Tsu-na. I've said this to Dino when he was being a whimp and I'll say it to you. How do you think everyone would feel if you bailed out on them, hm? In their eyes, you're a leader that they love. You have to show them the way and it is what it is Starfish."
"Nobody asks to be in the Mafia, the greatness in thrust upon them in a way that they cannot conceive."
"Correct Al." I said, nodding. "Nobody really asks to be a part of the Mafia Tsuna. Some were born into it while others were brought along the way. You just have to make the most of what you've got."
Reborn nodded. "First, you must think up a strategy for fighting, for the next five days. "
"Fighting strategy?"
We have to make sure that Chrome has recovered and finished up the training for all of you within the five days. Phillipa will keep check of her, since she's the one who's trained the most in this area."
Even so, I wasn't a doctor or anything.
Such a short period of time.
How troublesome.
~o0o~
What seemed to be five hours later and how Lambo's troublesome chaos turned out - ie, the whole figgen base nearly blew up to his 'Takoyaki machine' - I was dead tired. There was literally hundreds of rooms here, and while I got my own one with an ensuite bathroom, I had a hard time sleeping. It seemed that for the first time, I had trouble adjusting.
I felt uneasy.
"You felt it too." I said to Al. "You saw how bad Lal's getting."
"Something big happened with the Archeballeo, is what I'm assuming is to be the cause. Everytime she thinks or hears about it, her nose twitches."
"And everyone who's from this timeline is reluctant to talk about it."
"Shit's hit the fan love."
I knew.
~o0o~
Shit really did fly everywhere the next morning, when I walked into the infirmary, yawning. I had to run back out to fetch Reborn after Bianchi yelled at me. He took one look at Chrome and I wanted to throw up whatever was left in my stomach. Her organs had either disappeared completely or become flatter than a pancake.
I phoned Reborn on the intercom.
"You should go tell Tsuna about his Mist Guardian. She's acting up." I said and Reborn agreed. He went off for about five minutes and then he came back with a very agitated.
"Chrome!" He shouted. His eyes widened when Bianchi rushed over to her as she screamed. I'd administered the safest amount of painkillers that I could without overdosing her, but she was still reacting to the fact that her entire internal system was basically kablooie.
"What's wrong Phillipa?" Reborn asked.
"There's nothing we can do to help her." I moaned. "Her organs have disappeared!"
Reborn jumped onto the bed to survey Chrome, as the linen blanket that covered her torso molded downwards into a dip. "So Chrome's organs were created from Mukuro's illusions. That's impossible to recreate now...With that being said…."
It means Mukuro's definitely hit some trouble.
~o0o~
I led Tsuna back to the control room as Hibari strode his way in, gesturing at me to move as I kept track of her pulse, looking at my watch. I realised that this wasn't the type of situation where I could easily say what I wanted to. Not with everybody acting out of character.
"Just take a seat." I whispered, and he sat down between Yamamoto and Hayato at the table.
"Tsuna!"
"Juudaime!" Hayato said. "We're talking about that tenacious Mukuro! He wouldn't be so easily defeated, right?!"
"No-one is undefeatable." I murmured. What I wanted to say was that it would take a very strong foe to defeat Mukuro, that being someone in the Millefiore and Reborn knew where I was getting at.
"That's right, Tsuna." Yamamoto implored. "There's nothing to worry about!"
"However, no matter how we look at it , it's impossible for Chrome to be ready for battle within five days."
"That'll be a big blow…" Al muttered.
Lal stood up abruptly. "I'll fill in for Chrome."
I blinked in confusion. "What, have you gone crazy Lal! No way jose!"
"She's right." Reborn said agreeing. "How could we make you do that when you're having the hardest of times sitting still?"
Lal's face turned to one of shock as her mind went blank. She was the type of person who persevered through heaven and hell, stopping for nobody. Her weakness wasn't showing it.
"Reborn! Phillipa!"
"What are you saying!?" She spat.
"You don't have to push yourself. One look at your face and we know that you're having trouble with your body. Your body's in tatters because of the Non-Trisette's exposure, isn't it?"
"Don't ask her when you already know the question Reborn, that's rude. Lal, there's no way I'm letting you out of that door in the state you're in."
"Shut up, both of you! How can someone from the past know anything from here!?"
"I've also felt the Non-Trisette radiation since I've arrived." He admitted. It felt like a pile of bricks being placed on your chest, one by one. "I can tell how reckless the stuff you're trying to do is."
"But the people behind the radiation is the Millefiore! If we don't defeat them, this world will never return to normal!"
Everyone stared at her with mixed emotions. Giannini was either very stupid or very brave, 'cause he spoke up first. He didn't try to put himself in harms way normally, but he didn't like it when people fought either.
"W-Well…..c-concerning this m-matter…..We haven't found the source of the Non-Trisette radiation. Although it m-most likely has a connection."
She glared at him, gritting her teeth.
"...o-or has something to do with the Millefiore…..We don't have solid evidence for it at this moment….'
Hibari's man nodded as he chewed on a toothpick. "It's the same for us according to our investigations."
"No! It's them!" She yelled, not wanting to hear that. "Colonnello…...Viper…..Skull…...THEY WERE ALL KILLED BY THEM!"
My breathing hitched.
Even Reborn?
"Definitely bad." Al said, and I was surprised that he was concerned. "What happened, I wonder…."
I managed to catch her when she collapsed, narrowly avoiding a concussion. What she said scared me, but what she said spoke truths. I've never heard Lal lie before, since she's such an upfront person. When she gets like this, it only makes me more nervous.
"Lal Mirch!" Tsuna called, surprised at her sudden actions.
I placed my hand on her forehead. She had a slight fever, and that's only assuming due to the unfortunate events that have made her stress so much. Lal batted away my hand as she tried to sit up out of her own stubborn will.
"Can you stand?" I asked. "We should get you to the infirmary."
"No, I can stand by myself! I don't need your fucking help!" Lal shrunk away from Bianchi's touch. "Don't touch me!"
"Listen to us!"
"It's better if you get treated properly." Bianchi told her as Lal closed her eyes willingly.
"I'll go get a stretcher!" Fuuta yelled, running off to the infirmary.
Giannini followed him. "A-And I'll set up the medical equipment!"
"Sawada." Ryohei said, in a serious tone. "With regards to the operation, seeing how bad the current situation of our battle force is, I know what you're going to say. I'll go tell the top brains."
"It's only anemia!" Lal pleaded. "Nothing major! Don't take it to heart!"
"Don't push yourself Lal."
I t'ched, standing up. I didn't like seeing Lal in the state she was. "If you're not going to let her go, then please allow me to cover her. Just don't stop the operation!"
I didn't want to see her more injured.
She was special to my father. She had his respect.
Therefore, she has mine.
She had mine before I even met him.
Tsuna sniffed out.
"Brother, let's do this." he said, with milky eyes. Tsuna was thinking hard. "If we go to the enemy's hideout, not only could we get some leads on how to return to the past, but we could also find some information on Mukuro. Phillipa, you've already guessed where he is, haven't you?"
I blinked in surprise. "Well Starfish, I wouldn't call it knowing but I'm more or less assuming he's gone after the head of the Millefiore already. Call it intuition 'cause I can hear everybody much clearly now. It's not so hard to concentrate now."
He nodded. "I thought so. You had that look."
That look huh?
"Chrome is mentally attached to Mukuro, so it's not hard to sense his presence. It's faint, but it's there. He's not a lost cause just yet."
"T-Then you'll come?" He asked.
"Of course! I ain't letting Lal hurt herself!"
"I'm coming too!" She gritted, managing to get back into the swivel chair.
I rolled my eyes, thinking that she'll never change. "I'll go with her then."
Tsuna smiled. "At the same time, we can also look into the Non-Trisette as well. Though I feel as if we might be too late."
"Yeah." Ryohei admitted, thinking.
"And, I really don't want us to stay in this condition any longer."
"Tenth…."
"Tsuna….."
Al sniffed, his tail flicking erratically. "Are you sure you want to go through with this you knob? What if you get hurt? What if you don't make it back to the past? That'll shit things up!"
I'll be fine, I told myself, almost saying it out loud. I know my limits. I'm not alone.
"Same goes to my friends from Namimori and Italy. Chrome and Lal Mirch! This kind of place is totally unsuitable for them!"
I smiled, just as Fuuta and Giannini returned. Noting that Hibari had silently snuck into the room and was now leaning on a door panel, I helped Lal to the infirmary.
This fight was making me excited.
My stomach was unsettled.
~o0o~
It wasn't even five days. It was more like four and a half, to get everyone ready and up to speed. I took my time in these training sessions as well, but for the moment, I took a small break as Hibari asked me, too politely for my liking - ie, not biting my ass/ or to death - as he wanted to fight against Tsuna. This timeline's Tsuna was above par against my fluffy Starfish. I watched as they fought each other, endlessly bashing the walls and I wondered how much this costed. Wasn't a worry to the Vongola, probably.
Lal still wasn't up for standing. She refused to be bed bound and she wanted to oversee Tsuna's training, so I got out a chair for her to sit in. Kusakabe, who turned out to be a third or fourth cousin of Hibari's, stood with us, watching the battle unfold in front of us.
Kusakabe was thinking Hibari.
Lal was thinking recovery and battle plans.
~o0o~
"If these blueprints are real, that's pretty impressive."
The same day, after everybody had eaten and shared what probably felt like an awkward/ tension filled dinner, we sat back in the control room, looking at a rather peculiar image.
"However, who could've done such a thing?"
"It's just a possibility," Tsuna said, piping up after being quiet for quite a while of time. ",But do you think it was Mukuro?"
Ryohei breathed in. "Indeed, that way of not directly helping the mafia is just like the guy. But, the file transmission was cut off around two o'clock."
I sat back in the chair, hearing it squeak. The air conditioned room felt hot. "That's about the same time that Chrome's organs were disappearing."
Tsuna looked at me. "No way…."
These were blueprints. He must have leaked them to us on a continuous, almost non-traceable level until they stopped. My gut was telling me that somebody must have found out about it.
"What's this black room?" Lal asked, and I looked to the screen where she was gesturing at. They were just black boxes.
"Details on that are unknown." Ryohei said uncertainly.
"Was it possible that these flies are corrupt? That the cut off happened when they were transferring?" I asked.
Ryohei shook his head. "No, they're JPEG files. It's like faxing through a piece of paper that's been scanned. However, there were other files that we couldn't use as well, but they seem to contain some important information about the target."
A new file enlarged on the screen, of a circular device that looked eerily mechanical. I blinked and couldn't help but look over the monitor at Tsuna, who recalled a memory, or rather, a dream of his that happened this afternoon.
Strangely enough, he'd seen this before.
"This machine…" He muttered, staring into the picture, making me wonder if he thought that it would magically tell him it's secret answers. "I've seen it before."
"What!?" Lal exclaimed, leaning forward. "You've seen this before!"
He nodded nervously and I wondered how long we'd stay in this strange future.
It seemed too real for my liking.

~Omake-desu~
"Where are you going?" I asked Reborn, as he sat on the stool in Nana's house. Today was a saturday, meaning that the kids were out with Nana and Bianchi, Tsuna was sleeping in while I looked after the house. I hadn't had American food in a while, so I was making some homemade macaroni and cheese.
"Outside." He said plainly, and I took note of his usual morning attire. He was clad in an orange shirt, some shorts and had smears of sunblock across his cheeks. "It's a nice day today and it's my day off so all I want to do is lie in the paddling pool."
I smiled, shrugging. "Well, alright, but make sure you get your back, okay?"
He nodded and slipped out of the sliding door. The smell of cheese filled the house and I turned the stove plate down to a simmer, as Leon sat on the table, licking a cut orange.
"Hey little guy." I said, sitting in front of him.
I petted his head as he licked and Leon stopped, looking at me. His head bobbed up and down, before transforming into a fan.
I giggled. "It's okay Leon! We already have air conditioning!"
Then, he shaped into a green water pistol.
"Na-ah. No squirting, I don't want a mess when Nana gets back, okay?"
Finally, his tongue flickered and Leon emerged as a giant arrow that pointed to the stove and I finally realised where he was getting at, as black smoke rose from the pot.
"Oh…"
