Chapter 16.
The following morning, Naruto woke up to find himself in Sasuke's arms. The comfort and security he felt went far beyond he could comprehend. He sighed and snuggled closer in the warmth of his partner.
"Morning, dobe." Sasuke held him tighter, resting his head atop Naruto's.
The blonde grunted in response. He waited for Sasuke to make the first moves.
"Today is one of my rare days off. What do you suppose we do together?"
Naruto thought about it. It had been a very long time since he got a shot of sake, or any other liqueur. "How about the bar?"
"No more drowning in sorrows, Naru, remember?" The Uchiha reminded him.
"People drink for other reasons as well you know."
"Ok, so the bar it is. But that has to be later tonight. Do you have anything else in mind?"
"Not really. I am really tired of being locked inside though."
"Ah, I have an idea." Sasuke nodded.
"What is it?"
"It'll be fun. Actually, it's something that has been on my mind for some now."
The Uchiha sat up; leaving the blonde sprawled on his stomach.
"At the Uchiha Manor… there is a private indoor hot spring and a natural swimming pond."
Naruto's eyes widened. He had been to the manor, but only at times when Sasuke invited him, and it was when he collected a few items from his family house. He had been ordered to stay put, and not to touch anything.
"Really?" His cerulean blue eyes rested on Sasuke's obsidian ones.
"Yes. Its due time I let my boyfriend get a tour of the old place."
"Sasuke!" Naruto launched at him, then wrapped still strong arms around his neck, "That's amazing!" he bounced off the bed, a new aura of excitement radiating off him. "I can't believe I'll finally see it!"
Some pink hair blond half way across the street on her way to work looked up when she heard a familiar voice shouting in excitement. She smiled then continued on. A new vigor in her steps as she felt hope.
Sasuke almost regretted it as soon as the blonde dashed from the room and he heard the bathroom door slam. He swore there was now a visible crack on the wall. He got up slowly, then started to make necessary arrangements he knew the blonde was not insightful enough to think of.
An hour and half later, Naruto was stomping impatiently at the door while Sasuke filled a large igloo with ice.
"Let's go!" he stressed the words as he growled. "I am growing gray hairs on my balls waiting for you to put ice cubes in a fucking enormous igloo!"
The raven sighed for the millionth time that morning, a vein near popping at his temple. "Contain yourself, the manor isn't simply going to disappear you know."
The blonde seemed to calm down a little after being scolded. Then he rebutted, "Ya never know Sasuke, there are weird shinobi running around the place learning weird jutsu all the time. Ya never know if they might accidentally turn the place invisible… or, or sink it!"
Sasuke could almost hear the gods laughing at him now.
"Just a few more minutes won't hurt." He said softly. "I know you're excited to go outside again, but at this rate, your brain will die from over active imagination." He could not help but smile though, as Naruto gave him a disgusted look.
"Just hurry up or I'm going back to bed."
"No need to threaten me." He said dismissively, his Uchiha arrogance further pissing off the blonde. "It's only fifteen minutes away if we rush."
And finally, Sasuke reached out his hand and Naruto snatched the igloo away.
Twenty minutes later, Naruto watched Sasuke use large keys to open the chains keeping the Uchiha District closed down. He allowed Naruto to enter, and then he slipped inside as well, closing it as Naruto waited patiently. Somewhere along the journey, the blonde's excitement had become subtle. Sasuke imagined he knew the reason, but he kept his thoughts to himself.
"Ok, where to start?" He began. He took hold of Naruto's hand and squeezed it gently. "The Uchiha were very skilled shinobi. Some were not ninja though, can you imagine that?" He snorted. "Anyways," He stared to lead the blonde away, walking towards the largest building, the Uchiha Manor. "My family was the main one, the most important, so to speak. My father, Fugaku, was very strict. He did thing however he saw fit. It was very hard to please him. However, my mother was very loving, Mikoto Uchiha. My father was the heir of the previous leader. And then my older brother would have been the leader." He paused. He shook his head then continued. "My aunts, uncles, and cousin lived all over. Very rarely, an outsider would come and live among us. Most times, those outsiders were wives and husbands." He looked down at the blond suggestively. Naruto had a far away gleam in his eyes, "However, the Uchiha, were forbidden to live outside the district. Even I have not been in all the houses." Upon reaching the manor, he simply dragged the silent blonde to walk around it. "So this is where the kids would play with their mothers if they had spare time or there was a celebration." There was a large pool, and surrounding it were dried bush that used to be a flower garden.
"Father did not approve of me playing in it."
Naruto nodded then, and then he smiled, "That must have sucked. Is this where we will stay?"
"No. I said a pond earlier. It's a distance away from the training field. It was my favorite spot; I used to go there all the time." Carefully avoiding the subject of his brother, Sasuke walked faster, he got excited to be near the familiar body of water again.
Naruto held his breath as they walked through a maze of trees, following fading pathways. It would have been the silence would have been eerie, if not for the birds chirping crazily above them, almost like welcoming them home.
A smile formed on its own as a sudden gush of fresh air fanned his face. There before him, was the clear water pond, lilies lining the circumference beautifully. He gulped as an army of small frogs jumped in the water. A picture of his onetime mentor flashed in his mind. It had been a while since he last saw the man after all. And he remembered turning down the offer to train as he had been too focused on Sasuke's decision to stay all those years ago.
"This place is amazing." He said softly. Any evidence of human contact had been long ago diminished by rain and autumn leaves that coated the earth in a dewy natural mess.
"It is." Sasuke got about to opening a scroll that was in his other hand as a large thick blanket and some clothes as well as a picnic basket were revealed. "What are you waiting for to jump in?" And then Naruto watched him yank off his plain black t-shirt and stepped out of pants, leaving him in close fitting boxers.
He admired Sasuke's lithe but firmly muscled body for a while before reciprocating his actions.
"You're the best Sasuke. Thank you!" he yelled, as he kicked off his sandals then jumped in the water, splashing a great deal on the Uchiha and disrupting the balance the animals had created. His loud and yes, obnoxious laughter filled the silence in the air, as Sasuke joined him.
Hours passed with them just lounging and swimming around. Then they sparred, something that both of them thoroughly enjoyed, and with no one there to stop them, they both beat each other to near unconsciousness.
"I don't think I can feel my feet." Naruto laughed, he was lying on the leafy ground, his arms behind his head and a canopy of trees shading him from the sun. "I had a great day Sasu."
"Hn." The Uchiha would not have believed the blonde had not been on missions if he had not witnesses it himself. If the blonde had lost some skill, it was very subtle, and he could not take advantage of it. His mind wondered what his life would be like if he had taken up on Orochimaru's offer. He shuddered; he did not want to lose Naruto. Not after he had been so close to feeling alive and loved. It reminded him of days when he had a family, and they used to laugh and play around all the time. It made him yearn for a future where he could have children and a wife, like his mother, to spoil him. He turned his head to look at Naruto. He was a rare beauty. And he would not lose him. He was worth more than all that now. If not for the blonde, he would not even be right here, enjoying the heat of a summer day on the district that he had once vowed never to set foot upon.
"Hey, Sasuke?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry about before. Yesterday, I mean." Naruto sighed. "It was never your fault, it's just that I always wanted a family, I always wondered what it felt like to have a mom, or dad. Or even a cousin…" he sighed, his brows drawn together in a frown, "When I finally had that chance, I thought it was a miracle. Even though it wasn't our baby together, I wanted to have a family and then maybe you would love it too." The blonde had no idea why he was saying this to Sasuke, but he had an urgent need to, "So please, I'm sorry I upset you, it's just that I never had living blood ties before, and to lose that, was very painful. It's nothing compared to how you have felt when you lost but your family, but I am weaker than you-" he froze when a pair of lips met his from above him. He could not see Sasuke's eyes because of the position, but he wished he could. A second later, the Uchiha pulled away, he sat down and somewhat dragged Naruto to rest his head in his lap. He hunched over the blonde. And Naruto was confused before he felt droplets hit his forehead and ran across his face. Sasuke shuddered. His face crunched in misery Naruto did not understand.
"I'm the one who's sorry." He shook his head. "How could I have been so wrong?"
"It's ok, I was the wrong one."
"No. I'm the weak one. I still hate him. I still want revenge; I still want my mother to hug me, and my father to praise me." He let Naruto sit up then hug him. "I miss them so much. I should have understood what you were going through. To lose your blood family, is something painful, and it's hard to accept. It's only been a month, and yet you're up and ready to let it go, while I lost them a million years ago, and I still can't face this district alone."
Naruto was shocked, he just held Sasuke tighter, his own tears building up then spilling over. "I'm sorry it was Kiba's." He blurted.
Sasuke pushed away so he could look in Naruto's face, "What?"
Naruto exhaled loudly then shook his head, hands wiping his tears, "I wish I hadn't tried to help him. I wish that we had sex before he did that to me. And more than anything, I wish that the baby would have been ours. It should have been yours and mine. So then we could have started a family together." The blonde stared to get louder as his words broke and his voice got strangled, "And I hate myself for thinking that, because I did love that baby. I loved it very much, more than myself. I wanted that baby, so I could love it, and then we could be a family together, even f you didn't want me anymore, it would want me. My baby would always have me." He didn't notice Sasuke holding him securely as spasms of sorrow shook him, he could hardly breathe and he choked on sobs. All his self control seemed to have vanished at the sight of Sasuke crying so miserably.
"It's ok, now. You can cry about it for as long as you like." Sasuke still had tears rolling down his cheeks, how could he have felt joy in knowing that Naruto's family had died? How could he have been relieved? It was a series of bad and misplaced emotions as he thought about them. it was his jealousy, knowing that Naruto was loving someone else's child. He did not understand that it had been Naruto's child as well.
He regretted what he had done last night, making the blonde chose. There should not have been a choice, he himself had been mourning for years, and he still would be for years to come.
As the sun began to sink behind the mountains, a soft and golden glow settled over the tangled bodies of Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha. The two were sleeping on the ground, and the now dirty blankets entwined around their limbs, sort of like their personal mist hiding them from ANBU who were searching for them for hours.
The said ANBU felt a strange aura of coldness as they walked across the campus. They had never been on the compound before, and it oddly felt like they were no longer in Konoha. The three of them, although very strong and highly esteemed, stuck close together as they passed abandoned houses and stepped on noisy twigs.
After an hour of walking around, they decided that the Uzumaki and Uchiha were in fact not here. Making their way off the compound, by threes, they were all immensely shocked to find the Uchiha waiting for them at the gates. He was only in a pair of pants, and his hair was wild about his face and neck.
"What purpose do you serve on my district?"
The three ANBU sighed in relief as they approached him. "Uchiha san, Lady Tsunade wishes to speak with you as soon as possible, also, with Uzumaki Sama. Do you know of his whereabouts?"
He growled and he looked away. "And why would I know of his whereabouts?"
The ANBU with the smallest frame, obviously a woman gave off a small snicker, "We were all under the impression that you two were a couple."
"Well, whatever. We'll be there within fifteen minutes."
"We were informed to escort you there."
The Uchiha glared at them through their masks, "Then do so in the shadows."
Before he could finish his command, they were out of his sight.
He shook his head at them he was their commanding officer, or captain and his team mates were always too nosey in his personal life."
He vanished and made his way back to the now wide awake blonde, who had his feet stuck in the water.
"We have orders from lady Tsunade."
"What does she want?" the blonde asked, getting up and puling on dry clothes. He ran his hands through his hair to get it spiky again.
"Hn." He shrugged.
Once finished, they cleaned up and made their way off the district, Sasuke bowed slightly in front of the manor, as if to say good bye.
They purposely ignored the watching ANBU as they walked hand in hand a towel across Naruto's shoulders to keep him warm.

Jiraiya was sitting on the window sill of his past love's office. The years had really started to catch up on him, and he finally understood why Tsunade did jutsus to make her look younger.
"I think he'll definitely go this time. I'll order him to if I have to."
"And what of his boyfriend?" The toad sage questioned. "Won't he disagree?"
"It's not his place to say. Naruto needs to disappear for a while, and I got contact from the Raikage and their jinchuriki is also being sent into hiding."
"I see."
A knock on the door had them looking up. Shizune opened the door and Naruto and Sasuke stepped inside.
Jiraiya cleared his throat as both young Ninja looked at him. Naruto smiled hesitantly. He didn't know what to expect, and he still felt bad for turning down his master and deciding that Sasuke was his priority back then. They were hardly thirteen, and he had wanted to ensure that the Uchiha would stay. If he had left to train to become stronger, he had no doubts that Sasuke would leave to get stronger as well.
"Hey there Pervy-sage," he raised a hand in greeting, and then looked towards his mentor, the Hokage.
"Naruto, how've you been?" he asked cautiously. He had been informed by Tsunade exactly how the blonde had been, but found it wise to act ignorant, at least for now.
The blonde was silent for a moment, then he mustered up a large Naruto like smile, "You know, I've had better days, but I'm fine. What about you old man?" he directed, "what brings you to Konoha this fine evening?"
The Hokage cleared her throat to get the attention. "Sasuke, Naruto, it's time for you guys both to head out to get stronger." She began, "I know that power is very touchy topic to you guys, but you aren't little kids anymore."
"And what do you suppose we do about it?" Sasuke asked warily.
"To get to the point, I have missions for you both. Naruto, you will of course become Hokage onve I step down, but first, you have to leave to train with Jiraiya. It's not just about powerful Jutsu, its about life. Also, the Akatsuki have already infiltrated the sand village and Garaa paid a price. Luckily enough, you guys got to him in time. Last week, they tried to get to Kumogakure. The container of the eight tailes, Killer Bee was safe and now he is being hidden. I was given the location, but I cannot say so out loud. Jiraiya tells me that Pein, one of the Akatsuki, the leader perhaps, is out looking for you. He was spotted near Konoha boundaries three days ago. It is in my best interest, in your best interest, that you depart as soon as possible with Jiraiya. You will be gone for no less than two years, under which time, you will master rasengan, and have full control of the Nine Tails. Killer Bee has control of his Tailed Beast and as soon as you are through training with Jiraiya, you will join Bee and he will teach you. Do you understand?"
The blonde had a bitter smile on his lips, then with his head held down he nodded.
"Good. You depart first thing in the morning." She turned to face the Uchiha, who was scowling openly, "Now, you, you have a mission to infiltrate Orichimaru's lair and kill him, Kabuto, and whoever else is a threat to us. Do you understand? You will go to him, on your knees, and beg to be under his tutelage. You will become his pupil, and serve him well. Do what you must." To get her point across clearly she stood then repeated, "Do as you must. One such as you should know strength to face the worst enemy, to project the one you love, and the village you serve. Sasuke, I'm telling you to 'betray Konoha' under his orders. I'm telling you to give and take a few innocent lives. It will be worth it to save hundreds when he will strike." She tossed a scroll at him, "That is a list of all his hideouts. The one he is at is in the scroll. Please burn it after you have copied the information with your sharringan. You have three years. You leave tonight, and take nothing from here. Not even a picture. Do not speak of happiness and joy. This is not your first infiltration as a ninja, but this is S Class, beyond S Class Secret. Only the four in this room may speak of it. Only we must know."
"Hai, Hokage Sama." He looked at Naruto, and saw that the blonde was carefully blank. Throwing away his stoic mask, he reached out to him and hugged him. He saw that Jiraiya had a knowing smile on his face, but he ignored it. This was probably the last time he would hold Naruto. He held his tighter, aware that the smaller frame was not moving.
"What are you doing Sasuke?" He asked softly.
"Saying good bye." He said regrettably. "I knew that this day would come. I have been preparing since three years ago." He said solemnly. "But it's still sooner than I would have thought." He pulled away.
"I'm sorry that I have to leave so soon. And I won't even get to say happy birthday." Naruto said stiffly. "But it's ok; I'll see you on the other side, right, Sasuke?" He pushed him away to look him in the eyes. Intense blue met liquid black "This is only another mission, one of hundreds to come. Don't get too caught up, promise me. And even if you have to kill some innocent people, make up some lame Uchiha excuses, like your better than using your blade on filthy weaklings or something." Naruto tried for a low chuckle, refraining from scratching the back of his head.
"I Promise. I love you." He nuzzled the blonde's neck and then kissed his jaw line softly, reveling in the familiar warmth and the scent of pinewood and ramen that always clung to him. Naruto lifted his hand to embrace the Uchiha.
"And this is a completion, you better believe it!" He nodded, "When we meet again, we will fight like real warriors. Then we'll think about Uzumaki - Uchiha babies." He whispered the last part so only Sasuke could hear. "If you aren't alive, then it can't work."
"I accept your challenge, dobe."
"I love you too teme."
They kissed in pure reckless abandon as the Hokage and Great Toad Sage watched in interest and reminisced on old days. When the Hokage had seen that they had finished saying their good byes, she sent Sasuke ahead to go back to the apartment and prepare. He retuned only few minutes later, and he gave the blonde one last searing kiss before he jumped through the window past Jiraiya and disappeared from sight.
It was at that moment, that Naruto's emotions caved in and he cried.
A/N: I am so sorry for the long wait, and I apologize for the story being all over the place.
This is my first attempt at writing something that will openly be judged by the entire internet. Please, do not expect me to be like Maya Angelou.
So I hope you enjoyed this chapter, I only have one final exam left, so apart from that my summer is official, meaning longer and better chapters.
It was always in my intention for Naruto and Sasuke to separate for some time, that way, the reunion will be so much better.
And they will become stronger, like in the Original story line. But this time they are older.
Naruto: She made us separate *sobs*
Me: Please review and tell me how you liked it.
Naruto: I want to kill her.
