Daniel slapped his thighs in exasperation and let out a loud huff. The tv was portraying the scene where Dumbledore died. "Dammit, Snape! I know Dumbledore told you, but damn!"
He looked up from the tv when he heard the front door open. Seeing that Henry was at school, it could only be Regina.
"Daniel, come help!" Regina yelled from the foyer.
Daniel's eyes were still trained on the screen. "What?, yeah... hey, darling!"
The sigh was loud and clear and it meant that the hormones were kicking in again. He heard the front door being slammed shut with a loud bang.
"Regina, dammit. You almost broke my foot!" He heard Emma scream.
"Oh, don't overreact, Emma!"
"I'm not overreacting! My goddamn foot was still between the goddamn door! Dammit!"
"Well, I can't help it that your feet are as large as boats!"
Oh boy... Daniel grabbed the remote and paused the movie. He could already guess where this was going. And Emma -of course- had been so stupid as to point out that Regina was in fact wrong. Which was probably right, but that didn't matter. You don't mess with a pregnant Regina. Espesially when you're a guest and you can leave this house. And he couldn't.
He got up from the couch and walked into the foyer. The scene that was playing before his eyes could actually be really friendly like, if it wasn't for Emma's frowned face and Regina's death glare.
"Hello ladies, has it been fun?"
He knew he had asked the wrong question when both heads snapped up and stared at him with matching death glares. He visibly swallowed and wiped the cold sweat from his forehead with the sleeve of his black and grey striped sweater.
"Are you kidding me?!" Regina snapped and dropped the bags containing the new maternity clothes on the ground, next to her feet. Which were killing her by the way, seeing that she was six months pregnant and still stubbornly wearing her four inch heels. Curse those heels that made her legs look pretty. Curse... that's ironic.
"Why don't you ask how the toilets looked, seeing that we've spent most of the time there!" Emma snapped just as vicious as Regina had just done.
Regina's mouth dropped open almost comically wide. "Oh, well I'm sorry that I have a tiny human being pressing on my blather!"
"Oh come on Regina, I can understand that. But ten times?! We've been gone for three hours!"
"I will go the the bathroom whenever I goddamn please, as many times as I goddamn please!"
To be honest, Regina was quite terrifying. Emma seemed to notice that too because she held up her hands in surrender. "Fine, fine."
"Well, I'm glad that that's cleared up." Daniel quickly said before Regina could say something that would definitely lead to another fight. "What've you bought, darling?" He asked with a smile.
"Clothes."
Daniel's smile faltered at the dry reply. "Great!" He said enthusiastically and he turned to Emma. "Thank you, Emma."
Emma took that as a cue to finally leave this tense atmosphere. "Sure." She said with a small smile. "But I must be going. See you later."
The couple didn't even get the chance to say goodbye before the front door closed again. Leaving behind a seething pregnant woman and a terrified fiancée.
Well, damn.
...
Turnes out that his punishment for telling Emma that Regina was too pregnant to fit in her clothes wasn't even that bad... At least, that was what Daniel was telling himself. It all depends on what your definition of bad is and standing in the store wearing his pyjama pants at 3 am to buy some weird kind of craving Regina had, tops spending a night on an uncomfortable and hard couch.
He had been fast asleep when Regina had turned around and bumped him on the shoulder telling him to get to the store and buy her pickles and strawberry ice cream. And Daniel, of course had groaned some weird response, telling her that he didn't want to because dementors were roaming around the streets at night. Which resulted in Regina forbidding him to watch Harry Potter for a whole month. A month!
He opened the zipper of his coat pocket and reached inside for his wallet, only to find out that it wasn't there. Well, shit! He switched the ice cream and pickles to his other hand and felt in his other pocket. Again, nothing. He groaned at the prospect of returning the supplies to the shelves and then go back home to get his wallet, only to walk back to the store, seeing that Regina still hadn't taught him how to drive.
"Nice pyjama pants."
A voice said from behind him. He turned around and then smiled sheepishly. It was David, or charming, or whatever. "What are you doing here, David?"
He shrugged. "Oh, you know. Patrol." He looked at the ice cream and pickles in Daniel's hand and grinned. "Late night craving."
"Yeah. Be glad that you had maids to do this kind of stuff when Snow was pregnant." He smiled back.
"Oh, believe me." The prince said. "I am."
"But, I have to get home again to grab my wallet. I sort off forgot, turns out my brains aren't really working at three in the morning." Daniel said while he put the jar of pickles back on the shelf.
"Well, I've got my wallet. I could pay." David said with a shrug and he pulled his wallet from the pocket of his jeans.
"Really?" Daniel asked in wonder. "Why? You don't even like Regina."
"That may be. But from man to man. Pregnant women can be really scary, especially pregnant Queens."
Daniel grinned and and nodded a thanks as he reached for the money David was handing him. "Amen to that."
...
"I've got your food, Regina." Daniel said softly while he stepped into the bedroom. He stopped, however when he saw that Regina was already fast asleep again. She was lying on her side and her face looked happy and serene in the ray of light that shone from behind Daniel. She was so gorgeous. Her left arm was draped over her duvet covered stomach.
He couldn't wait to hold his little baby girl and he hoped that she looked exactly like Regina. The same beautiful tanned and smooth skin. The same soft dark locks and the same brown eyes that were so beautiful that you could drown in them. He pulled of his coat and hung it over the chair. His feet padded against the floor as he rounded the bed and laid down behind Regina. Careful not to wake up the exhausted woman. His arms circled her expanding waist and he hugged her softly.
Regina grumbled in her sleep and sighed happily. She grabbed his hand and held it tight.
And together they fell in a peaceful sleep.
...
Daniel switched channel as he grabbed a handful of potatoe chips and stuffed them in his mouth. He wiped the greasy hand clean on his dark blue jeans. If Regina would have been home, she would've yelled at him, for sure. But he loved her though and understood that she was just very hormonal so he could take the yelling and the throwing of clothing items at his face whenever he had forgotten pick it up.
He stopped pushing the button when he saw Ellen was on. That woman was truly hilarious. He was so enthralled that he didn't even notice Henry walking in. The boy was wearing his Spider-man pyjamas, seeing that his mother was at work so she couldn't scold him for wearing it so late in the afternoon and he was free from school.
"What are you watching?" Henry asked as he plopped down on the couch next to him and grabbed a handful of chips also.
"Ellen." The short reply came.
"Why aren't you watching Harry Potter?"
"Because your mother has hidden all the movies, she thinks I have a problem."
"Well, she's kind off right, dad. You're going around, randomly saying Harry Potter quotes."
Daniel's head snapped to the side to look at the boy. "Oh, the betrayal. We need to stick together Henry! We're men, we only function in groups, otherwise we need a woman to function for us! And we don't want that, do we?"
Henry let out a loud laugh. "You're so weird!"
Daniel couldn't stop the smile when he heard the boy laugh. "I know."
...
"How are my favorite boys?" Regina asked while she walked into the living room, seeing Henry and Daniel sitting on the couch, looking at some sort of superhero show.
Henry turned around and jumped off the couch. "Mom!" He hugged her tightly and Regina hugged him back happily.
"What is it, dear?" She asked with surprise.
"Nothing, I just missed you."
Regina smiled down at the little boy that was hugging her tightly. "Well I'm back now."
Regina looked up at Daniel with confusion but Daniel just smiled back at her, silently telling her to just enjoy it.
So that was exactly what Regina was doing.
...
Across town, Cora was still sitting in the cell in the sheriff's station. She was beginning to feel desperate. The last time she had seen Regina, her daughter told her that she needed time. And that had been over three weeks ago.
The old woman desperately wanted to see her beautiful daughter and tell her everything. But it was no use. She should've expected this really. Of course Regina didn't want to have anything to do with her. She had hurt her so much.
The thought of that caused a lonely tear made its way down her rimpled cheek.
