The Forgotten 25
A/N: Sorry for the delay peoples.
hope you enjoy!
Kimberly growled softly as she landed gracefully on the roof of her apartment building. She stood there trying to get herself under control. The power was pulsing around her like a steady heartbeat. Then she tensed feeling that she wasn't alone. The moon was rising high behind her, and she felt it like Zen-Aku would've. It was fighting her so much she hadn't felt him till he was a couple steps away from her. A growl escaped her in warning before she spoke. She didn't want him seeing her like this, barely in control of all this power that she had.
"Take one more step closer to me and I will throw you off this building."
"Kimberly…"
A heavy sigh escaped her as he called her name.
"How is it that you guys can always find me when I don't want to be found?"
"Is there a reason you don't want to be found?"
"I'm not completely in control of this. Besides, you called me…"
"Kimberly I…"
Something in his voice made her freeze. She turned and tried to powered down even though the wolf was fighting it underneath the full moon's light. She realized that she probably shouldn't power down just yet. She shot forward as his knees gave out. Barely she managed to catch him and transport him into her apartment. She sat him down on the couch and moved towards her medical bag. The scent of his blood hit her nose and it sent something through her that she'd never felt before. It was white hot and fast and it coursed through her like lighting. Shaking off the primal feelings washing through her she focused on getting the stuff needed to patch him up.
"Sit up."
He grunted as he sat up. Carefully she helped him get his shirt off. Digging out what she needed and turned and felt a rumble start in her throat. Shaking the reaction off to his hurt she moved forward and started dressing the wounds. Once she was done, he reached up and touched her face gently making her eyes clench shut.
"Are you hurt?"
"No, just been a long exhausting journey."
"I know you weren't ready to talk before Kimberly."
"I'm calmer now. Unwittingly found a monster called Mirage and he had the Phantom Ranger imprisoned. We fought and I won. I'm still edgy with the rising of the moon. Mind telling me what happened?"
"I was caught off guard."
"Tommy…"
"I know."
She finished bandaging him up and moved to stand up. He caught her wrist softly but he let go when she jerked in a manner that told him she was going to lay him out if he didn't unhand her. "Kimberly, Beautiful."
"I can't break right now Tommy and if I talk about it or let it out I might just do that."
"I understand. I'd ask you to stay out of this but I know you won't."
She put away her paramedic gear and turned and drew the sword at her lower back and placed it and the Dragon Dagger back on their stands.
"Can you not power down?"
"Not yet. With the moons pull right now I'm not sure if I should or not."
"The moon?"
"Zen-Aku was affected by the phases of the moon when he and Merrick were one. It was on a full moon night that Zen-Aku threw me a beating a month before the mission to the moon. I still felt it even then."
"Kimberly…"
She shook her head as a dizzy spell washed over her. He shot forward and kept her steady. Closing her eyes she leaned against him for a moment. She'd missed being able to lean on him when she needed to. "Are you alright?"
"I've been trying to knock this absurd amount of power that Zen-Aku gave me down. So I've been running since I woke up to the power transfer."
"Then sleep," he suggested softly.
"You look like you could use some shut eye yourself."
"It's been a long day."
"Story of our lives."
He laughed softly at her. She pulled away from him and went into a closet and pulled out a pillow and throw and laid it on the edge of the couch.
"Goodnight Handsome," she murmured softly as she went to her room.
"Goodnight Beautiful."
She shut the door behind her and leaned against it. Her heart was pounding so hard in her chest. Shaking her head, she moved forward and flopped down on her bed face first. She felt like a teenager again when she'd first saw him and then when he smiled at her. It didn't take her long to fall asleep.
She woke up a couple hours later and she opened her door and saw him sleeping on her couch. Shaking her head, she grabbed her laptop a sketch pad and pencils and teleported to the roof. Knowing Analyse like she did she'd be up and in a tizzy. Setting her laptop up so she could get some work done while Tommy was snoozing on her couch. Getting her phone out she made the call to her. She got her sketch book out and started drawing the Phantom Ranger now that she knew what he completely looked like in person. She hoped that Cassie and the Phantom Ranger got to talk.
"I'm going to murder you!" Analyse growled when she answered.
"That would be counterproductive."
"You could've told me that you were alive."
"I'm sorry. I wasn't myself for the longest time."
A heavy sigh escaped Analyse.
"I know you Kimberly and I know you're probably not ready to tell me what happened."
"Not really."
"There's something I need to tell you."
She cocked her head to the side. "He went crazy after you died. Like reckless crazy."
"That's not like him."
"Then he came back and found that Zen-Aku had hurt Justin and took you. The others had to stop him from trying to find you."
"Where Zen-Aku went wasn't a hard place to find."
"What do you mean?"
"He has a forest that he claimed. He took me there."
"Probably for the best he hadn't found you then."
"Merrick did but I only let him see me for a moment before I booked it out of there."
"Kimberly…"
She was about ready to say something back to her friend and a feeling washed down her back making her tense. It wasn't Tommy she was completely sure of that.
"Analyse. I have to go…"
"Kimberly…"
In a rush she grabbed her stuff and vanished and landed in her room and put everything down and froze wondering if she should wake Tommy but decided against it. She went back to face off against the threat she clearly felt. Standing on the roof she waited for them to show themselves. The creature flashed close by sending her senses going wild. Clenching her hand at her side her crescent blade appeared in her hand and she heaved it up to rest on her shoulder. Her eyes were golden and they were searching for movement that would give them away. They moved out into the open and were waiting for her. Taking a deep breath, she leapt over the side of the building and landed gracefully in front of these creatures that she'd never seen before. Kimberly moved through them in a fight and as she moved her Ninjetti gear was changing colors.
Tommy woke in a rush. Something wasn't right. Grunting softly, he held his side and went to her room but she was gone. Panic rushed through him for a minute before he figured she might've gone to the roof. Getting up there he looked over to see someone leaning over the ledge watching something going on below. He realized it was Merrick.
"What are you doing here?"
"Watching."
Tommy moved forward and saw Kimberly fighting against these creatures that they'd never seen before. One creature got a hit on her and he was about ready to morph to go down and help her but Merrick stopped him.
"Don't, you going in and playing protector all the time will undermine all the hard work she went through to get where she is. Besides the chameleon looks like she can handle it herself."
"Chameleon?"
"She's changing color as a skill set is needed."
Merrick watched her fight and knew that Tommy was fighting a loosing battle. He wanted to go down there and help her but as he'd said it would undermine her.
"But your part of her Core Four," Tommy murmured.
"I maybe part of that group for her but we didn't become that with the sole intent of protecting her. Our purpose was to keep an eye on her and be prepared to stop her if we had to. There were others but they stepped away because they didn't know if it came down to it if they could take the steps necessary to stop her."
Tommy looked at the Lunar Wolf Ranger. "We didn't want to be the ones to be responsible for having to stop her but it was better us than others like you."
"Me?"
"Do you think you could stop her if it came to do that?"
"I would do what was necessary even if I didn't want to."
Merrick snorted at his words. They both knew that he'd have a hard time stopping her if it came down to it. Tommy glared at the Lunar Wolf. "Even if we weren't emotionally invested in her like you are and we had trouble fighting her at times. In our world Rangers are supposed to help others when they need it but she's something entirely different."
"She's not possessed anymore."
"Maybe not, but right now she's stronger than she's ever been and trying to find the balance she needs again."
The sound of the rushing wind and soft feet landing behind them had them turning to see her standing there. The power was rushing through her as her uniform kept changing colors. Tommy could see she was trembling as the moon was setting. He watched her do the power down gesture and the uniform melted away and she sank to her knees. He moved forward and carefully picked her up. Her head rested against his neck. Merrick dipped his head at him before heading down the stairs. She reached up and grabbed a fist full of his shirt and they vanished and landed softly in her room. Tommy shook his head. He couldn't get used to her doing that. It was different from when they were teenagers. He moved forward and laid her down on the bed. She reached out and placed her phone on the night stand. She looked up at him sleepily.
"Stay," she murmured.
When she looked at him like that he couldn't deny her. He kicked off his shoes and moved to lay down beside her. She moved so her back was against his chest and her head resting on his shoulder. He curled around her and laid his arm over her waist. Her arm laid over his. He rested his head on top of hers.
"I've missed you," she said softly.
"I missed you too."
She snuggled closer to him and in moments she was asleep. He smiled softly and before closing his own eyes. It didn't take long for him to fall asleep beside her with the feeling of being right where he belonged.
