I fail at life. I know it's been God knows how long since I updated… (2 months? 3?). I have had the hardest time with this chapter and have been so busy. Anyway, I really hope that some of you are still following the story, and if you are, thank you for sticking with me :-)
I don't own Blue Bloods and all mistakes are mine.
RECAP: Jamie found out Renzulli had responded to an assault against Angela. He confronts Renzulli. Renzulli goes straight to Angela, asking her if her ex-boyfriend, Dave, was the one that attacked her this time. Angela says yes, he always finds her. Renzulli convinces her to go to the Reagans and tell them the truth.
Chapter 8
"We're going to want to go somewhere to talk privately. The man that attacked me is a cop."
Danny and Jamie looked at each other and Danny led them to an interrogation room, away from prying eyes.
He closed the blinds and they sat down.
Angela started from the beginning, leaving nothing out.
When she got to the part about Joe and Renzulli responding to her assault, both men sat forward, shocked.
"They helped you get out?" Jamie asked.
Angela nodded. "They truly saved my life. If Sergeant Renzulli hadn't convinced me to leave, I would be dead right now…When I was packing my things I found a suicide letter, forged in my name. David was planning on killing me."
Both brothers were incensed by the end. They wanted David Thomas to pay.
"The problem is he's too careful. There's no evidence against him. He's too smart and he has friends on the force."
Danny grudgingly had to agree. "All we have right now is a he said/she said. It'd be your word against a cop."
"Exactly" Angela said, frowning.
"We have to do something! He's going to keep at it until he kills her."
Jamie got up and started pacing.
Danny thought for a minute and then looked up.
"We need to go up the chain of command."
"…but how far up? We don't know who else is involved. We don't even know if this guy is still a beat-cop or even which precinct he's out of!" Jamie exclaimed, still pacing.
"We go straight to the top" Danny said, looking at Jamie.
Jamie stopped pacing and nodded. "The Commissioner."
Angela looked at them, confused.
"Who's the Commissioner?"
"Our father" both men said at the same time.
Everyone agreed that meeting the Commissioner at his office would raise too many questions, so they were going to drop in later that evening.
Danny called Commissioner Reagan and asked if he and Jamie could come by after dinner and he agreed, albeit curiously.
Jamie picked Angela up from her apartment at 6pm and they headed over to the Reagan house.
As they pulled up, Angela stared in awe. "You grew up here?"
As Jamie got out of the car and walked around to open her door, Angela sat there, having second thoughts.
"I don't know about this Reagan."
Jamie offered his hand to help her out of the car. "C'mon. They won't bite."
"They?" Angela asked.
"I didn't tell you that my Grandpa lives with my Dad? He's a former Commissioner."
"What?" Angela cried. "No. That does it. I'm not doing this" she crossed her arms and leaned back in her seat.
Jamie crouched down next to the open car door. "Angela. Remember what's at stake here. Do you really want to be looking over your shoulder for the rest of your life? Never able to live the way you want to? Always being afraid?"
Angela sighed and shook her head. She took his hand and climbed out of the car just as Danny pulled up in his car.
He got out and walked over to them. "Let me guess, cold feet?" he asked.
Angela nodded. "He forgot to mention that your Grandad lives here and is a former Commissioner."
Danny looked over at Jamie. "I told you, you should have warned her."
Jamie shrugged. "I know, I forgot."
All three walked up to the front door and Jamie rang the doorbell.
The door opened almost immediately.
'What're ya ringin' the doorbell for, boys? You know you can come right in" their Grandad, said, waving them in.
He stopped short at the sight of Angela. "Well who is this pretty lady? Come right on in darlin'."
Angela smiled, thanking him as she walked past.
He took her coat and stuck out his hand, properly introducing himself. "Henry Reagan, patriarch of the house."
Angela laughed and shook his hand. "Angela Fitzgerald."
"Patriarch of the house? Pop, who are you talking to?" Commissioner Reagan asked, coming around the corner from the kitchen.
Angela looked up at the tall man in front of her and stuck out her hand. "Commissioner Reagan, I'm Angela Fitzgerald."
The Commissioner shook her hand warmly. "Nice to meet you Angela…and it's Frank around these parts. No need to be formal."
"Hey Dad. Hey Grandpa" both boys added, greeting the men.
"So I'm assuming that the reason you've come tonight has something to do with this lovely lady?"
They nodded and Frank led them into the living room.
"We have a problem" Danny started out with.
Frank held up a hand. "Since this whole problem seems revolve around Angela, why don't we let her tell us?"
Angela nodded and told Frank and Henry the entire story.
Both men's eyes looked a little watery when she mentioned Joe helping her, but they held it together, staying silent until she was finished.
"Looks like we have another Blue Templar situation" Henry said, breaking the silence.
Angela looked confused. "Blue Templar? What's that?"
Danny showed her his pin that he still wore and her eyes widened as big as saucers.
Shaking, she pointed at it. "D-Dave had the same pin."
All four men sat forward.
"Are you sure?" Henry asked.
"Positive. He had it, and his buddies did too."
"How many?" Frank asked.
"At least four men. I never met all of them; just the ones that would come by at least once a month to play poker…and…Dave used them to intimidate me into keeping my mouth shut about the abuse."
When she said that, Jamie gripped the arm of the couch so hard his knuckles turned white.
"What are were their names?" he asked.
Angela noticed his hand and gently unclenched it, grasping it lightly.
"They didn't hurt me, they just threatened. Dave was the only one who hit me."
Ignoring the fact that she was holding his brother's hand, Danny spoke up.
"We still need their names. We have to find out how many officers are involved and shut them down."
Angela nodded and then a thought occurred to her. "Do you think these men were doing the same thing to their girlfriends or wives?"
"Maybe. It wouldn't surprise me. Back in my day, there were some whose policy was 'don't ask, don't tell'" Henry said, frowning.
Angela shuddered and gave them the names. "I only remember two of them, because they were higher ranking than Dave; Detective Carl Scott and Lieutenant Wendell Pierce."
"Those two responded to a 911 call from one of my neighbors once. They were the 'closest unit'…Needless to say there were no arrests made that night…and I got it twice as bad for telling them the truth. They w-watched while he beat me and even collaborated his story that I 'fell down two flights of stairs' when he finally called an ambulance."
All of the Reagan men were furious.
"We have to find this son of a bitch" Danny said.
"What do we do in the meantime? It's not exactly like this is going to be a quick investigation. He's a cop. It's going to take some time" Jamie added.
Angela looked up. "I'll just have to be careful. I can't hide under a rock and not live my life. He should leave me alone for a while."
Jamie shook his head vehemently. "No. He knows where you live. What's stopping him from trying to kill you? You said so yourself, he won't stop. Not until he kills you."
"Jamie's right" Danny interjected. "He'll kill you if he gets the chance. And we can't exactly put a protection detail on you, he'll spot them or he'll hear it from one of his buddies and…"
"Enough" Frank said, holding up a hand, "Angela can stay here."
Done! Please please review and tell me what you think! :-) Pretty please with sugar on top?
