Chapter 16
And it's the for a random montage of random events! Cue the m-m-m-m-montage!
Lex smiled brightly at Nomicon, Randy, and Howard who were standing in front of Greg's Game Hole, their favorite arcade. Accepting Randy's challenge to beat his never-ending high scores, Lex walked confidently around the games and tried to beat each and every high score. She failed each time, much to her dismay. Sighing dramatically, Lex sat down next to a game system with a huff and a pout. Nomi chuckled at Lex's behavior and took a seat next to her.
"It's just a game, Lex. There is no need to act so childishly about it. I lost (at every game) but I'm not crying." (On the outside.) Nomi assured.
"There is need to act childishly about it. I only beat one of Randy's high scores! I need to beat them all!" Lex whined.
"Tell you what, I'll try to beat another score of Randy's for you and if I fail, I'll get you some ice cream or something."
"And if you win at something?"
"Then I get prize."
"What will that be?"
"I'll tell you when I win." Lex pouted slightly put nodded all the same. Long story short, Nomicon still lost and had to take money from Howard's wallet (because why not! :D) and got Lex a frozen treat that she ate happily on the curb outside the arcade.
"It's okay Nomi! Not everyone is as gifted as Randy, Howard, and me!"
"I can speak most languages fluently, know everything about everything, and I'm a martial arts master. I should've been able to beat that game."
"Well, when you think about it like that…" Nomi sulked in silence next to Lex until an idea popped into her head.
"Hey, what did you want as a prize if you beat Randy's scores? I'll get it for you! You did buy me ice cream and cheered me up." Nomi's eyes widened a bit and a tiny smile made its way to his face.
"Are you sure? I mean, I'd hate to burden you with my wish…"
"C'mon Nomi, I'm your friend. That's what friends do!" Before she could continue, Nomi placed a kiss on Lex's cheek, right at the corner of her lips. Lex blushed madly as Nomi pulled away with a smile.
"That is all I wished for." And with that, Nomi walked back inside.
Mordea was out doing the Sorcerer's work for him. Causing minor mayhem and humiliation to make sure as many people as possible got stanked. For an evil girl like Mordea, girlfriend of Bash and leader of an powerful little clique, that was all too easy. Every other day, someone, somehow, at least one person was stanked. Mordea giggled maniacally as another student was stanked.
"Eleventh one this week!" Mordea cackled, walking calmly away from the stanked teen and watching the chaos unfold.
The flaw in this madness? A pair of ninjas. The Ninja himself found it helpful whenever Kasumi appeared. She'd appear in a flash of light and smoke before doing everything she could to make sure whoever was stanked returned back to normal.
"Double ninja kick!" Both ninjas shouted as the kicked one such monster in the face and sent it flying backwards.
"I'll keep him busy, you get him un-stanked!" Kasumi shouted, taking out her favorite ninja weapon: a long chain that had a spiked, metal ball at one end (like a mace!) and two sharp blades that ended in a sort of hook on the other.
"Got it!" The Ninja called back, rushing to the monster. It was a thin white and green snake-like creature with dagger teeth and thorns lining its back and head. Hard to believe this kid was turned into a monster by a simple "kick me" sign, huh?
"Where is it?!" The Ninja asked silently while trying to avoid getting caught in the stanked kid's gaze.
"Probably in that lovely assortment of horns and spikes." Kasumi snickered sarcastically. Then he found it. A tiny little sticky note stuck on a thorn near the monster's neck.
"Great, so if I fail, I get bitten. Wonderful."
"Hurry up, Ninja!" He nodded and hurriedly jumped onto the creature's back, causing it to lurch and thrash about.
"Stop moving! I'm trying to help you!"
"Bad snake thing!" Kasumi threw the bladed end of her chain over the monsters head successfully getting it stuck in the grass next to it. Yanking on the other end of the chain, Kasumi subdued the student.
"Now!" The Ninja grabbed the little sticky note and held in front of the student.
"See this? This is why everyone's been kicking you." He ripped the paper up a million times before tossing it in the trash.
"Now they can't." The creature turned its head to the side and shrank back down, turning into a band kid who grinned shyly.
"Thanks Ninja! Thanks Kasumi!"
"Don't mention it! Now, I believe you have a class to get to." Kasumi chuckled as their student gasped and ran back into the school.
"You know, we make a pretty good team." The Ninja said.
"I have to agree with that. You're a pretty awesome ninja. No wonder everyone loves you!"
"I wouldn't say EVERYONE loves me."
"Who would hate Norrisville's greatest hero?"
"McFist and whoever owns whatever thing I end up destroying half of the time."
"First day I met you, we destroyed half the school. Did the principal hate you?"
"No."
"Exactly. You can't hate heroes…unless you're a villain. In which case, I'd think you're pretty justified."
"Gee, makes me feel WAY better." They both laughed, sitting in the grass.
But even those times stopped sometimes. On the occasion, Lex could never reach her mask fast enough and would end up in trouble. That's where the Ninja came in. With so many smaller, but still troublesome, stanked students running around, it was hard for Randy to get to his damsel in distress.
"Need some help here!" Lex yelled as she struggled and squirmed in the grasp of Julian, but as a spider.
"Ninja fire ball!" Julian screeched at the flames and backed up, tossing Lex into the air. She squealed and shut her eyes tightly before landing safely in the Ninja's arms.
"It's okay! I got you. You can open your eyes." Lex hesitantly opened her violet orbs to meet the Ninja's own blue ones. Those oddly familiar blue eyes… Lex felt as if she'd seen them before.
"Wait here, okay?" Lex nodded and the Ninja set her down before going back to deal with the monster that was Julian. Not long after, when Julian was human and the fire from the ball was put out, the Ninja returned to Lex.
"So, are you alright?"
"I'd assume so. I'm still breathing." Lex said with a little grin.
"That's good." The Ninja laughed. "Not sure what I'd do if you got hurt." Lex blushed at his words and watched as he began to walk away.
"Wait! Can I…ask you something?"
"Sure, what?"
"Do I…do I know you, by any chance?"
"E-excuse me?"
"It's just…you seem kinda…familiar."
"…I guess you'll find out." The Ninja finally after a slight pause.
"Huh?"
"If I am someone you know, I'll tell you." He gave Lex one last smile before disappearing in a cloud of red smoke.
About a week later, Lex was hanging out with Randy, Howard, and Nomicon. As she usually did. By that time though, it was pretty late and, with the help of Howard, Lex had managed to eat all their snacks. Nomicon had left for the washroom and Howard was napping on the couch, leaving Randy and Lex there to chat without waking him up.
"Yeah. Hey, Randy?"
"Hmm?"
"Do you ever wonder who the Ninja is?" Randy stopped and glanced at Lex.
"D-d-doesn't everyone? I've really started to wonder who that Kasumi girl is, too."
"M-me too." They laughed nervously and awkwardly looked around the room. That's when it hit her.
"Randy, look at me."
"What? Why?"
"Just do it." Randy obliged and looked at Lex, gazing onto her purple eyes. Her eyes widened at the exact same navy blue eyes she'd seen behind the Ninja mask.
"Y-you're the Ninja."
"I knew you'd find that out sooner or later."
"I can't believe you're the Ninja!"
"Sorry to interrupt, but you're Kasumi, aren't you?"
"How'd you know?"
"Your eyes…" Randy looked away with a blush.
"Aww! That's how I figured it out too, so we're in the same boat here."
"So…are we still partners?"
"The best ninja partners ever!" "I guess this team is official then!"
