"Trick or treat!" 'How did I let myself get roped into doing this?' Arthur thought, groaning slightly, as he rubbed his hand over his face. "Why aren't you two adorable?" He heard what sounded like an older woman say, you could hear the grin in her voice. "Pick any two you like dearie."
"Merci madame! Happy Halloween!" Matthew yelled before running back to Arthur to show off his new candy.
Arthur peeked down through his fingers as he felt his pants being gently pulled upon. Staring up at him with child like wonder and happiness with a dazzling grin stood Matthew. 'Oh. That's right. He used his powers of the puppy dog pout and crocodile tears.' "Look Arthur!" The small child thrust his orange pumpkin bucket, which was slowly but surely beginning to fill with candy, up as high as his little arms would reach and he was nearly bouncing with joy. "I got a lollipop and a bag of skittles!"
The British teen stooped down and grinned. "Oh that's great Mattie!" Matthew nodded and giggled a bit.
"Oh that's nothing, Birdie!" Arthur nearly faceplanted onto Matthew as the albino self proclaimed Prussian threw himself onto his back. "I got a bag of M&m's! Kesese!" Matthew giggled louder as Arthur scowled and pushed Gilbert back off of him.
"Oui, but I still have more candy than you do Monsieur Gilbert!" "Oh is that so?" Matthew nodded and held out his basket to the albino. "Well maybe I'll just... do this!" He reached into the basket and took out a handful of random candies. Matthew pouted, "Hey! Give those back!" He jumped up but Gilbert continued to laugh and hold the candy away from the blonde child.
Matthew huffed and began to pout. He yelped and giggled loudly as Gilbert picked him up and spun him around. "Say please and you can have all your candy back!" Matthew giggled and held onto Gilbert. "I also get to pick some from you!"
The albino man 'hmm'ed and tapped his chin thoughtfully before finally nodding. "You drive a hard bargain Birdie but you win." Matthew clapped and grinned.
Arthur just shook his head and chuckled to himself softly. "Alright you two, ready to go to the next house yet?" Gilbert and Matthew shouted their agreements before Gilbert took off running across the street to the next house.
The teen scowled and mentally began yelling swear words to the albino. 'I swear it's like I'm babysitting two children, not one!' He sighed and sat down on the sidewalk, facing the house where Matthew and Gilbert were. He suddenly felt like he was being watched and could feel the small hairs on the back of his neck raising as he heard the bush behind him begin to rustle. He quickly jumped up, black cape swirling behind him, "Alright, who's there?!"
"Ah! Don't hurt me! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare you!" A small voice yelled back before bursting into tears. "I'm sorry!" Arthur paled, 'Oh God I've made a child cry. How do I make it stop?!' "Uh it's ah... quite alright. Are you okay? Why don't you come out from the bush?"
There was more rustling before a small child, about Matthew's age, shakily stood in front of the Brit. He had blonde hair and sky blue eyes, a tuft of hair that seemed to enjoy defying gravity, his Captain America costume slightly dirty and the shield had a chip in it with dirt on it as well. Arthur slowly kneeled down so that he was eye level with the whimpering child. "Hello, my name is Arthur. What's yours?" He held out his hand to the child slowly, so as not to scare him.
The child just stared at the extended hand. "I'm not supposed to give my name out to strangers. I'm not even supposed to be talking to you! You're a stranger!"
Arthur sweatdropped. "Yes well... I'm not really a stranger."
The blonde child raised an eyebrow and tried to look all grown up, which caused for Arthur to bite his lip to keep from laughing at the dirty child. "You're not?"
The Brit shook his head. "No, not really. I did tell you my name." "Well... that's true..." The child fiddled with his broken and dirty shield before nodding and holding out his hand. "Hello my name is Alfred F. Jones and I'm Captain America because I'm a hero!"
Arthur couldn't hold back his laughter and he let out a soft laugh as he took the child's' hand. "Arthur Kirkland. I'm a wizard." "Is that why you sound funny?" The child, Alfred, asked, tilting his head as he still held onto Arthur's hand. Arthur blinked quickly as he thought about what the child said. "Ah... Yes. I"m from London."
"Do you do a lot of magic?" Alfred asked with a wide grin. "Arthur! We got more candy!" "Ja! The awesome me finally got more than the cheating Birdie!"
Alfred yelped and, dropping his shield, hid behind Arthur's black cloak. Arthur turned to face Matthew and Gilbert. "Huh? Hey who's this munchkin?" Gilbert asked loudly, crouching down to face Alfred, who was at this point shaking slightly.
"This is Alfred. I think he's lost." Arthur answered simply. Gilbert nodded, "So where are your parents kid?" Alfred shrugged, "I dunno..." He looked at Matthew, who waved before hiding behind Gilbert. "Hey! You lost your mask Spider-Man!"
Matthew blushed softly and nodded. "You lost yours too!" Alfred shook his head, leaning forward slightly, "No, it got stolened from me!"
Matthew tilted his head. "By who?" "Those people who work for HYDRA! They're a bunch of bullies!" Matthew shook his head. "That's not nice. We should team up Captain America! Then we can put them in jail!"
Alfred nodded and grinned. "We can start our own Avengers Team!" "Oui!" The two children grinned and high-fived, completely ignoring Gilbert and Arthur who were both biting their lips and trying not to laugh at the two children.
Matthew looked up at Arthur, eyes wide, "Can we go to another house now? Captain America and I can get a lot more than Spider-Man and a pirate!" "I resent that! I was doing great!" Gilbert mumbled under his breath.
Arthur just smiled warmly at the two super hero dressed children and nodded. "But don't run too far ahead." Alfred's grin began to slowly fade. "Hm? What's wrong Alfred?" Alfred blushed softly. "The HYDRA bullies took my trick-or-treat basket too."
Gilbert sighed and held out his basket. "Here kiddo. Take mine. But I want the bag of M&M's!" Alfred's blue eyes widened. He gave a quick salute to the albino man before he and Matthew ran off to the next house.
"That was nice of you," Arthur said softly. Gilbert just shrugged. "I wonder where his parents are. He's very loud so you would think that they'd notice if he was suddenly gone." Arthur frowned deeply. "I'm sure that we'll find them." 'I hope.'
Gilbert nodded but didn't say anything. The four continued to go to house to house, the two elder of the four softly asking parents and other adults if they'd lost a child. Everyone said no.
Arthur frowned and tried to keep his face worry free but was beginning to stress out a bit. 'Where on earth are his parents?!'
It was getting close to eight thirty when Gilbert sighed before grinning. "Alright you two, time to go back home."
"Awh!" The two small children groaned out simultaneously. "But whyyy?" Gilbert picked up Matthew and spun him around again as he answered back, "Because your Papa is probably all done setting up for the party!"
Matthew giggled while Alfred just became more quiet and subdued. "Lad, where are your parents? Isn't there anyone we can take you to?" Alfred just turned a teary eyed gaze up to the British teen. "Can't I go with you?!" He threw himself into Arthur's arms and shook slightly. "Please? I promise I'll be good! Please don't make me go back there! All the other kids are mean to me!"
Arthur just glanced back to Gilbert, panic in his eyes, before rubbing soft circles into Alfred's back. "Shh... It'll be okay." Matthew whimpered softly. "I like Alfred, Arthur. I'm sure Papa won't mind if he comes home with us..." The small child trailed off. Gilbert and Arthur shared a look before Gilbert walked over to a bench that was a few feet away from Arthur and the crying Alfred. "You have to tell me where you live Alfred. I can't just take you home with us. That's illegal." Arthur tried to explain to still crying child.
Alfred wiped at his eyes and sniffled. "But I hate the orphanage! The bigger kids are mean! I wanna go home with you and Mattie!" He threw himself back into Arthur's arms.
A few minutes passed by with Arthur attempting to calm the crying child before they heard a lady yelling Alfred's name. Alfred whimpered and held onto Arthur tighter as the lady's yelling became closer. Arthur sighed as the lady stopped behind him. "Alfred?" she asked softly.
Arthur turned to nod to her before gently nudging the sniffling child toward her. Alfred gave one last pitiful look to Arthur before slowly taking the woman's hand. "Hello, my name is Arthur. I hope you don't mind but we," he gestured to himself, Gilbert, and Matthew, "took Alfred trick-or-treating with us."
Matthew grinned. "Alfred's my new best friend! Can he come play with me tomorrow?" The lady just smiled softly. "I'm not sure dear. Thank you so much for finding him. I hope he wasn't too much trouble."
The teenager shook his head hastily. "Oh no. Alfred was no trouble at all." He crouched down so that he was eye level with the blonde boy. "We'll see you soon. I promise." Alfred just nodded and then he and the lady walked back over to a rather large group of children and another adult.
Matthew pat Arthur on the arm and gave the Brit a hug. "Alfred will be okay. We'll play with him later." Arthur smiled warmly at the child and hugged him back. "We should get back to the house before your Papa begins to worry too much."
"More candy! Kesese!" Gilbert shouted, picking up Matthew's forgotten basket and making his way in the direction of his house, the two blonde's behind him.
~Time Skip~
Arthur and Matthew ate some chocolate cake somehow got everyone, including Ian, to play a game of hide and seek. While dressed up. Which was a rather funny sight. Antonio, Francis, and Gilbert were all dressed as pirates. Ludwig was dressed as Frankenstein, make up done by one proud Feliciano. The Italian brothers were dressed as zombies, make up and all. Ian was dressed as a ghost. While Arthur was a wizard and Matthew was Spider-Man.
The British teen couldn't help thinking about Alfred as he hid in a hall closest. Most of the lights were turned off through out the house, just a few lamps were on so very little light came into the small space as the door flew open. Francis quickly shut the door and sat beside his younger boyfriend. "Are you alright, cher?" He whispered.
Arthur sighed, Francis wrapped an arm around him. "Cher?" "It's nothing. I'll tell you later. Matthew made a new friend by the way." Francis grinned. "That's wonderful!" Arthur grinned and nodded. "Hey, who's it anyway?"
Francis sighed contently. "Moi~" He sang out softly in a whisper.
Arthur leaned against the Frenchman. "So does that mean I'm it now?" Francis chuckled softly. "Oui," he tapped the teen on the nose before quickly leaving the small space and yelling that Arthur was it. Arthur scowled softly but began to count.
A/N: Well I had this written almost 7 hours ago and ready to upload but for some reason my ipad was not working and I had some family drama happen so I couldn't upload it on my laptop until nearly 12 in the morning(for me). Gah! I hate depressive states. But I guess I'll just move on. Sorry for my rant. Hope the chappie was okay. I was super excited to put Alfred in so woo!
