The two references was the "I have an army / we have a Hulk" exchange from the Avengers and the oath that Kanahana recites is heavily based off of the Lantern Oaths' rhyming scheme of the Lantern Corps
Also I submitted a picture to my Eienias20 dA of the now 3 vampires fighting: Wyre Reh, Tyse Erent and Kanahana. Picture is called "Grove Tower Vampires" and it took quite a while to complete. Hope you like it.
Wow...chapter 50...LETS GO!
Chapter Fifty
Grove Tower: Part Two
"Where is he!?"
"Sir! We-"
Without waiting for an answer, several guards were sent to the floor as a man filled with undying rage barreled through them.
One last guard saw him coming and despite his orders he moved aside and allowed the raging man to break through the door next to him.
Several heads went up as the door fell to pieces.
"How did you-"
Once again ignoring the calls around him, he marched straight for the winged man in the corner; focusing all his fury into his fist he punched the man across the face before grabbing him and slamming him into a wall.
"Wyre!" The sage turned to see his King Yuuten Heitnaro, he then did something he never believed he would. He ignored his king and proceeded to strike the vampire in his grasp again.
"You tried to keep this from us…the ones who've served you, who served your lord father, who served our country in the hopes of attaining peace and to protect our families. You lied to all of us."
Yuuten remained silent as Wyre turned towards him.
"The Order of Rein has killed countless people since they emerged…travelers, aristocrats, beggars, men, women, and children, anyone who they could get to…with no remorse. Many of us serving have lost family to them and you would bring one into the fold? Keep it from your loyal vassals?"
"Wyre, you-"
Yuuten held up his hand, silencing his brother Lyger. "We shouldn't have kept it a secret…but you must understand if the general populace knew he'd be dead."
Wyre turned to the vampire on the floor then back to Yuuten "We are using him because his Intel is invaluable. He was a member of the Order of Rein for some time…in return we assure his freedom. He grew tired of the killing, remorseful. I didn't believe it at first but he has given us enough information to push the Order of Rein from our controlled lands."
"How does one who knows nothing but death grow tired of it?"
Wyre once again turned and picked up the vampire "Explain yourself."
Silently the vampire wiped the blood from his lip "My name…is Klein Kruse…I was forced into the Order. Unlike everyone else who serves Ulyus I had no intention of joining them, I was on an unrelated mission from Thyremog when they found me…"
Kruse looked at Wyre and saw the hate in his eyes before sighing "My mission was not a peaceful one…I was to carry out the fell one's wish of war and incite it in other countries. My ship was marooned on Hitenticul's northern island and after a few nights of planning we were attacked by vampires. We fought to the last man…I was the only one left. Ulyus came to me, impressed with my strength and made me one of them. I fought against my urges from that moment…it wasn't until Lyger over there wounded me enough that I could regain myself and plead for freedom from Ulyus…"
"That does not erase any of your sins from your time in the Order and definitely not from the time before!" Wyre yelled.
The room fell silent as Klein nodded "It's true…I've chosen to work against what I've done…but I'll never be free from my past. At the very least let me do what I can until the day I die. Execution or not a vampire who stops drinking blood does not have long…"
"Why shouldn't I kill you right now?"
Klein looked at the lightning bolt forming in Wyre's hands before whispering something only the sage could hear.
"I must say…I'm not one to experience shock."
Kanahana smirked as Wyre flew up to his level, the two now facing each other. "I'd love to know how this came about. Surely you'll let me know, we are the same now."
"Don't you dare say that creature…we are nothing alike. At the very depth of my heart I'm still human; you have long since become a monster. You're not even fit to have a name."
After a short silence Wyre turned to see Soren and Mia, he knew they had countless questions and he could answer them all at once but-
A screech rang out as Kanahana barreled into Wyre, Tyse shot towards them followed by magic from Soren and Cadeera.
Kicking Wyre away, Kanahana evaded the magic but did not notice Boyd's arrows strike his legs. Tyse reached him and with a massive punch, sent the vile creature spinning back.
As Kanahana caught himself on the wall he noticed Wyre surrounded by an electrical aura cut across the air at an extreme speed. Both of Wyre's fist collided with Kanahana's chest, embedding the creature into the wall.
"Your fury…where is it…coming from?" Kanahana asked as he grabbed one of Wyre's arms.
Wyre moved his head aside as two beams fired from Kanahana's eyes. The mage responded by smashing his forehead into Kanahana, spinning the creature around and hurling him towards the ground where Leah and Mia were ready for him.
As the vampire engaged the sword wielders Wyre was preparing to charge in when he noticed someone below. Sighing he descended, landing in front of Wayu.
"Wyre…you are…"
As Wayu struggled to ask a question Wyre noticed everything become fuzzy before returning to how it was before. He stumbled a bit and shook his head "Wayu, I promise to tell you everything…to tell everyone but right now we need to deal with Kanahana."
Wayu remained silent until Wyre reached out and touched her cheek "I promise."
"Look out!" Tyse yelled as he flew past Cadeera and crashed into a wall. Standing the vampire shook himself off and prepared to charge again "Tyse! Did you know?"
Turning to the Valkyrie the man nodded quickly. Shock registered on her face before he flew past her again towards Kanahana who picked up Leah and tossed him across the room and into Boyd.
Colliding the two vampires began rending each other until Wyre joined the fray, at that point Kanahana went on the defensive but still felt the tears of vicious claws. Realizing he needed space he prepared his eyes, Wyre encased his hand in lightning magic and covered Kanahana's face. A red flash erupted in between Wyre's hand and Kanahana's face causing the two to separate. As the evil vampire's hands flew to his face, Tyse spun around and delivered a savage kick to Kanahana's back, tossing him to the ground again.
Wyre looked at the torn up palm of his left hand and sighed "Tyse, I appreciate that you told no one."
"There had to be a reason for it…I was hoping you'd tell them before it came to this…unless this was always what you were planning."
Wyre nodded at Tyse's claim causing the man to shake his head "Why now? You've fought Kanahana on Ymarkteg before, why wait till now? Why do this at all?"
An explosion caused the pair to turn to the ground where Mia, Soren and Cadeera were flying through the air before crashing into the ground. Leah stood facing Kanahana again and charged him with fury reminiscent of his days back in Hitenticul.
As Kanahana caught Leah's first blade he smiled "Still harboring hate for my kind eh? Amazed you worked so closely with three other vampires if I may say so."
Leah brought his second blade around which Kanahana evaded, taking Leah's first sword with him. As the vampire tossed the blade Leah glared at Kanahana "Wyre had it right when he said that you aren't a person but you also aren't a vampire…what the Midnight brought to life…was a mistake. Klein, Tyse and Wyre are all righteous souls…you are less than nothing compared to them!"
Leah shot up from the ground and engaged Kanahana as Wyre kept watching.
Tyse remained at his side "Did you have doubts?"
"Doubts…about what they would think after they learned about this…yes, I must admit I had a few." Tyse shook his head as Wyre clenched his fists.
"This whole group has been through a lot but they are capable of trusting and knowing who deserves their trust. There is no way they'd turn on you Wyre…all you need to do is tell them the truth."
Wyre nodded before hearing Mia call him "Hey you two! We need you down here!"
The trueblade shot towards Kanahana with the two vampires quickly following her.
A flurry of blades and claws filled Kanahana's vision, as fast as he was the numbers were against him and they all continued with a powerful force behind them. A determination Kanahana couldn't understand but he knew if this continued it wouldn't end well.
As he tried to strike the group broke away from him, he looked up just in time to see a massive orb of wind crash into him and send him into a wall.
"Wayu, are you hurt?" The Halberd shook herself awake and turned to Cadeera "You've been standing here for a while…Kanahana is still-"
"I'm sorry, I just…" Wayu trailed off as she caught sight of Wyre again. Cadeera put a hand on the younger woman's shoulder "Everything will work out. Take it from someone who knows."
With a smile Cadeera took off. Clenching her spear tight in her grip Wayu nodded and followed the Valkyrie.
Jumping, Kanahana's legs shot out into Leah and Tyse, knocking the wind out of them and forcing them to the ground. Turning he leapt away from Soren and Mia's blades only to take a shocking punch from Wyre who cut off his escape.
As he caught himself in midair a powerful light crashed into his back followed by a spear ripping through one of his wings. He turned and fired more lasers from his eyes causing Cadeera and Wayu to roll away.
Wyre once again crashed into Kanahana, the two engaging in intense combat with aid from Soren and Cadeera's magic as well as Mia's Branded Fire.
Once again, Kanahana found himself focusing on Wyre in front of him. He tried to figure out why the man before him became a vampire, why his determination kept him almost entirely human, something even Tyse Erent did not have.
"Why is this man before me so driven to end me and remain human? Have I done something to him personally? The Order did ravage Hitenticul but for some reason his blows are meant for me. Could it be something I did following my return?"
Kanahana caught Wyre's arm and delivered a savage punch into the man's stomach before staring at the hand he held in front of him. Images ran through his head and a smile formed "So that's it."
Releasing Wyre he kicked the sage to the ground and shot away, landing near the Green Orichalcum. Kanahana smiled at it as its glow continued to brighten.
He then turned to see the New Emissaries before him "Wyre. This is all for her…isn't it?"
Wyre came to a stop and clenched his teeth "You better stop talking."
Tyse noticed something and backed up towards Soren and Mia.
"I must say…the ramifications of my actions don't mean much to me. I kill, drink blood and kill again all in service to those who resurrected me. Anything else is just…"
The vampire shrugged as Tyse came next to Soren and whispered in his ear.
"Something is wrong…Wyre is losing himself."
Soren turned "What?"
"I'd tell you it was quick and painless but that'd be a lie…the screams were delicious as was the blood and seeing their dreams vanish as the color of their skin faded away…"
Soren noticed Wyre's magic crackle around him "Wyre! Don't listen to him! Whatever he is saying, you're in control! Remember that!"
Kanahana took one step forward and spat "You…are a failure of a husband."
A loud screech rang throughout the room, the New Emissaries ducked, holding their ears as blood began to drip from them. Wyre exploded from near them and crashed into Kanahana, the Green Orichalcum flared next to them as Wyre's claws ripped chunks of flesh out of Kanahana.
"You let your guard down!" the vile vampire screamed as his eyes flared up.
Two beams pierced clean through Wyre's body, as the sage stumbled back, Kanahana raked his claws deep into the man's chest and tossed him to the ground.
"Wyre!" Wayu screamed, Tyse shot past them followed by Soren and Mia then the rest of the group.
Magic, arrows and Branded Fire reached the vampire first but with a renewed anger he brushed the attacks off. Once the blades, axe and spear reached him he began dodging, parrying and countering against the group even better than before. As the combat raged the Green Orichalcum shattered though no one was of the mind to notice it.
As Cadeera fell back, Boyd caught her "Get to Wyre!"
She nodded and ran off as Boyd leapt and brought his axe into Kanahana's back. The vampire ignored it as he raked his claws across Mia, Tyse and Leah before turning, jumping and kicking Boyd in the side of his head.
Wyre lay on the ground looking up at the ceiling; everything was fuzzy and somewhat darker. Unlike before, he couldn't shake it off and could not make out someone calling his name.
He noticed someone come into his view with a staff "Cadeera…" he managed to choke out before turning his head and vomiting blood.
As Cadeera healed him she noticed his internal functions were not improving and then it hit her.
"You…haven't had any blood recently…have you?"
Wyre smirked before coughing "Not since…I changed…"
Cadeera shook her head "You've never had blood, yet you're still alive? That's impossible."
Cadeera helped him up and turned her head "You need some now or your body will continue to shut down and you'll die."
Wyre moved away from her and stood "I know you let Tyse drink your blood when he needs it…but I'm not going down that road ever. I changed myself for one reason…and one reason only and I'm here to see it through."
Cadeera stood up and tried to stop him as he began walking. She noticed his eyes change and then the sage pushed her to the ground "Stay back."
Hearing the tone in his voice she swallowed as Wyre stretched out his wings and launched towards Kanahana, screaming.
"You are leaving…for how long."
Wyre turned "Forever, my king."
Yuuten sighed "Are you certain? We-"
"It has nothing to do…actually…it has everything to do with my life here…I know that whoever came to Hitenticul and went to Kanahana's grave did something…from taking his essence to bringing him back from the dead…and they've long since left Hitenticul. I have to find them."
Yuuten nodded slowly "Wyre…I read the report…this-"
"This is all I have left my King. I will see it through to the end."
Yuuten saw the look in Wyre's eyes and sighed "Who should I leave your belongings to? Your wealth?"
Tyse felt a claw grip his shoulder and swing him away; he saw it was Wyre who proceeded to grab Boyd and Leah, throwing them aside before barreling into Kanahana and slamming him into a wall. Quickly Wyre proceeded to encase his fists in magic and ram them repeatedly into Kanahana's stomach.
As blood continuously shot out of Kanahana's mouth he brought his arms out and grabbed Wyre's head. Spinning about and ramming it into the wall.
As Wyre pulled his head out, Kanahana jumped and delivered a double kick into Wyre's side. Magic once again found Kanahana who turned ready to engage until Wyre stood and screeched.
A wall of lightning crashed in front of Soren and Mia, the group came to a stop.
"Stay back! He's mine!"
"Wyre! Get ahold of yourself!" Mia yelled "You're one of us!"
"I know but I gave up everything for this! This is why I've survived this last year! For this moment!"
Wyre turned to Kanahana who shrugged "You want to kill me for what I did…I understand…but I have a better reason. I want to kill you for nothing, nothing to gain, nothing to lose, I have my all to give for this. Normally I would be retreating right now but I want to bring you to a close myself."
The vampires once again crashed into one another, black magic spouting from Kanahana, colliding with the furious electricity that crackled around Wyre. Each punch delivered into the other filled the room with dark and bright light.
"He has awoken..."
The Fell Lord turned to his Apothecary "One of five…once we're all together…this story will come to a silent end."
The Fell Lord began giving off a green aura as the Midnight's Apothecary bowed.
Up north, sitting silently in a wide room with the Blue Orichalcum behind him, Norad Jyuugo continued to meditate.
"This blade was used by those of white hearts…"
"Our actions may not have been ideal at the time…"
"But what we achieved was what our world needed…"
Jyuugo smiled "Why tell me this? Why should I care?"
His eyes shot open as Alondite left his side, he stood up quickly, coming face to face with a large man encased in ebony armor and a blood red cape.
"Alondite is at home with me." He spoke as he ran his hand along the blade which began to glow.
"You are-"
"The Black Knight…and you Norad Jyuugo are not of mind or body to wield this blade…"
Jyuugo laughed "Me? What about you! I've been told everything I need to know about you, who you really are and what atrocities you committed. You've no right to judge me as a swordsman…I will leave the greatest mark on history, no one will even remember that you once wielded my sword, Alondite."
From beneath the Black Knight's shell, laughter seemed to echo "You're arrogance is…mythic."
Jyuugo clenched his teeth and reached out for Alondite only for it and the Black Knight to vanish.
He quickly realized the blade was still on him, turning he checked the entire room, aside from the glowing Blue Orichalcum there was nothing around.
Sneering he sat down once again facing the ornate door his challengers would soon burst through.
"Wyre…"
The sage stood, breathing hard with countless wounds all across his body and his wings torn up. Kanahana was in much worse shape yet still smiled "It must burn to know nothing you do to me will reverse anything…I'll die with satisfaction knowing what I've driven you to do!"
Wyre clenched his teeth "How you die matters not…"
The sage noticed Wayu out of the corner of his eye and despite everything a small smile came to his face. He chuckled "If only…"
He then turned and noticed that the spot where the Green Orichalcum once stood was now bare.
He looked up to Kanahana "This will end now…for Ymarkteg's sake the Midnight will be stopped."
Wyre stood up straight as Kanahana tilted his head, the sage made no move and to Kanahana it seemed he had no intention of doing so.
"Wyre!" Soren yelled "What are you doing!"
Kanahana charged at Wyre and in less than a second both of his claws were deep in Wyre's flesh.
Wyre responded by grappling Kanahana in what seemed like a hug, as he crushed the vile vampire's back he stared deep into Kanahana's eyes and saw something.
"Kharagan."
Kanahana's eyes widened, hearing his old name spoken everything that he had done began to dawn on him, an old soul awakening from decades of slumber.
Shaking his head Kanahana screeched "No!"
Wyre's eyes flared yellow, a massive, concentrated beam of Rexbolt fired from his eyes into Kanahana's face incinerating the vampire's head as his screeches began to cause the chamber to crack. Large portions of the ceiling crumbled and fell to the ground.
The New Emissaries ducked as the yellow light flared, once it faded they turned to see Kanahana's headless body with its claws still buried in Wyre.
The sage pulled the claws from him and stumbled back against a wall before falling to the ground.
His friends quickly ran over to him "Cadeera!" Soren called.
She shook her head "It doesn't matter how many wounds I heal, he is a vampire now. He needs blood or he'll die!"
Mia got next to Wyre "Then drink some of my blood Wyre! You can't die here! We need you."
Wyre remained silent as his friends called his name, his eyes were facing forward but he was staring at something else.
"It was her…" he whispered.
He brought his arm up to show them his wedding ring.
As his arm fell to his side he coughed.
"Wyre." Soren spoke lowly.
"I was married…to Shae…she was beautiful…in service to the crown. That is how we met…we fell in love…we married…we were planning on leaving the court for a quiet lifestyle to start a family…"
Wyre looked up at Soren and Mia "When she was murdered…"
Soren quickly put two and two together "The soldiers that were killed around his grave…she was one of them."
The group fell silent as Wyre smiled "We had one reminder of the Order of Rein…a sole tooth…that belonged to Ulyus…I buried it within my skin…the last venom…changed me…it took everything I had to maintain myself…I held onto one promise…I'd find who did this…and kill them…I was in a dark place…vengeance was all I wanted…"
The group turned as the Tower began to rumble all around them and a huge section of the ceiling caved in.
"The Orichalcum…it's gone…" Wyre whispered.
Mia quickly turned and gasped "He's right! What happened?"
The chamber continued to groan as Tyse cursed "It's going to come down on us."
"You have to go…there is much to be done."
"We aren't leaving without you Wyre!" Leah yelled "We won't think any less of you for taking blood! We need you!"
Wyre nodded "I know you won't. You are true friends. I had every intention of dying to see my Shae again…please…don't keep me from her…"
Soren and Mia glanced at each other, exchanging sad looks before standing.
"We aren't leaving him." Cadeera stated but upon seeing Soren's gaze she looked back at Wyre.
The sage smiled "My life has been blessed with people who gave theirs to see peace and security…Lyger Heitnaro and the man who convinced me those who do wrong can change…Klein Kruse. I give mine so that you may continue stronger than before…and save the world from what the Midnight has planned…"
Soren nodded slowly "Wyre…"
"There is…nothing more to say…Soren…"
Wyre closed his eyes and smiled. The New Emissaries looked to each other and turned slowly as the Tower released another dying moan.
"Wayu…can I…"
The Halberd stopped and turned to Wyre, she looked to the rest of the group, specifically Soren and Mia who nodded before proceeding.
She kneeled down next to Wyre "I'm sorry…Wayu…for what I…put you through…"
The Halberd remained silent as Wyre continued "After Shae…I was lost and in pain…if only I had waited…if only I met you at a more…opportune time."
Wyre's hand came up to Wayu's cheek; she held it there "Wyre. I'm sorry as well. I must have put you in horrible positions…questioning your immense resolve…I-"
Wyre shook his head "You have nothing to apologize for…now I think it is time for you to go…Wayu…see this through…survive this and live your life…"
Wyre let her go, his hand hitting the ground as Wayu stood slowly "Wyre…"
The sage's eyes once again became distant, he looked past the tower he was in and saw a shade approaching, "Shae…"
"You're records are inspiring…you will do well here…"
"I am humbled to hear you say that my liege."
The older man laughed "I'm no King…my lord father is…you may speak to me plainly."
"I…see…Yuuten then…I honestly never expected to be here."
"In the royal Hitenticul palace? Serving the crown? With these grades and efficiency, what were you going for?"
The man shook his head "I'm not sure."
Yuuten laughed "You'll achieve great things, I know it."
The two came to a stop, Yuuten turned to him "Starting now everything changes for you. Do you accept the duties and honor of serving our crown?"
The man bowed "Yes, I will serve the Crown of Heitnaro with my everything."
"Then stand…your life is forever changed from this moment on, speak your name now as one of the highest among Hitenticul."
The man stood, in his brilliant yellow cloak he smiled.
"Wyre Reh."
The New Emissaries stood outside the rubble of the collapsed Grove Tower. The beam of light faded away, bringing them one step closer to their journey's end.
Soren closed his eyes thinking of the man that would no longer be at his side.
Opening he turned to the rest of his group and nodded, somberly they departed for Numengate.
