I do not own Doctor Who. Though I wish I did. :)
Clara awoke around 8:00 in the morning, after an unusually long 11 hours of sleep. On waking up however, Clara quickly realized that something was wrong. Her limbs felt heavy, and more than a little numb. After panicking for a moment, she decided to wait for a few minutes before calling for the Doctor.
Sure enough, after about 2 minutes, her limbs felt light, and the numbness was reduced to an odd tingly feeling. Still wanting to relax, she wanted to have a long soak in the bath, for a calming effect. Slowly, she walked to the bathroom. From behind the door, she heard indistinct noises. When she opened the door, she found her bathroom had changed.
Previously there was a simple, though nice, bathroom with the basic fixtures; the new bathroom behind the door was much more spacious was much more spacious. The Vanity Area now occupied the whole back wall, while an enclosed area for the toilet was just to the left of the door. On the opposite side, was a large shower with opaque glass and handrails within the shower. And in the Center of the room, a large Marble Bath Tub sat, with steps going up to it.
Clara quickly got in, and soaked for half an hour.
The Doctor and Dave helped George get the kids ready for school, and get them sent off. After that, they had a chat for half an hour over many sundry topics, mostly stories from their respective pasts. Around 8:45, Clara Oswald came down to meet them.
"Good Morning Clara!" the Doctor said to her.
"Morning. Doctor, this morning my limbs felt numb. Does that have anything to do with the regeneration?"
The Doctor's face fell slightly. "Yes, it does. Sometimes before regeneration, it can be incredibly hard to move or walk. Do you feel better now?"
"Yes, I do." Clara replied.
"Good! Because we have a long day planned today! You want breakfast?"
"Yes, what do you have?"
"I can make a full Scottish Breakfast…." Dave interjected, though the Doctor was giving him a pointed look in regards to location, "in the TARDIS."
"Sounds good, Dad." Clara replied with a smile.
"Have you decided where you want to go, Clara?" the Doctor asked.
"No, I haven't," Clara frowned, "But, I have until Dad is done with his concert right?" she finished with a small smile.
"Of course," the Doctor smiled at her. She quickly broke out in a wide grin.
By 9:45, the breakfast and been cooked and eaten. Once again, they left the Paternoster Gang back at the Maitland's with enough to keep them occupied for a day.
Within twenty minutes by the reckoning of those on the TARDIS, they had touched down at the first destination, a concert from Dexys' Mignight Runners. As the Doctor walked towards the door out of the TARDIS, Clara got in front of him, and blocked his way. "Do you think you are going out like that?" She asked.
"Like what?" the Doctor replied, slightly perplexed
"Dressed up to the nines, complete with waist coat and top coat. You look like you are doing your best impression of a Victorian or Edwardian era dandy." Clara stated back at him with a smirk.
"And what if I am? I think I look good in this, especially the bowtie."
"I am not denying you look great in that Doctor, but at the same time, wouldn't you attract attention?"
"Like I don't attract attention elsewhere?" the Doctor smirked, "Besides, it is one one night. No one is going to remember a single well-dressed person in a crowd."
Clara thought about it for a second, and nodded her head in agreement. "I see your point Doctor." She was dressed in Black jeans, a red T-Shirt, with a leather jacket over it.
"Everyone ready to go?" The Doctor asked, rubbing his hands. Clara and her father nodded.
They walked out of the door, and out to the street. They were in Manchester, 1983. They quickly made their way to the concert venue, and after some effort, found some money for the tickets. They quickly went in.
Considering what band members of the Dexys Midnight Runners were wearing, the Doctor quickly leaned over and told Clara her concerns about his clothing was unwarranted, as they seemed to be emulating blue-collar dock workers.
It was another 10 minutes before the music started. Dave seemed to be the most into the music at first, singing along to some of the lyrics. Clara joined in within minutes, as she remembered hearing many of these songs when she was a child. The Doctor smiled at seeing how happy she was, from the combination of Nostalgia, being with her Dad and her Doctor, and just good music. Gradually, this caused the Doctor to join in. This went on for roughly 2 hours, before the final song started, Come on Eileen. It was at this point, the Doctor stopped singing along, because, though it was a song with nostalgia and being happy in a miserable situation, it was also quite raunchy if one understood the lyrics, and about love. And while fine with both, he was trying to deny that he felt anything that he thought of her as anything more than a very close friend.
This was proving difficult, however. The combination of her intelligence and wit, a caring yet cheeky attitude, the fact that she had saved his life so many times through sacrifices she had made, among other factors, was testing how he felt about her. However, see Clara and her father so happy helped his mind immensely, and shortly thereafter, the song ended.
Slowly, people started leaving, and Clara and Dave walked up to him. "Thank you so much for this, Doctor!" Clara exclaimed, and her father added to it "Thank you as well for giving me this wonderful time with my daughter."
"You are very welcome" Doctor warmly stated back to Dave, as all three started walking towards the TARDIS. The Doctor then turned to Clara, and then asked a question.
"So, Clara, which musician do you want to see? All musicians in earth history from April 12, 2013 are at your availability," the Doctor said to her, putting an arm around her and pulling her close.
"I am not sure which one," she said while smiling back to him. "Remember what I said about on my first adventure on the TARDIS?" The Doctor remembered what she said back then.
"I don't know. You know when someone asks you what's your favourite book and straight away you forget every single book that you've ever read?"
"Yes I do," the Doctor responded, thinking about that adventure, smiling at how strong she proved to be.
"So, Doctor, why don't we let the TARDIS decide? Give her certain instructions to follow, and we go to that concert" Clara suggested. She did not want to spend the limited amount of hours thinking about which musician, out of hundreds, possibly thousands, she would want to see.
"That sounds great Clara", the Doctor replied, smiling back at her. The Doctor, Clara, and Dave walked back to the TARDIS, with Clara between her Dad and the Doctor.
This took entirely too long. Reasons being emotional chaos, money issues, and much more. And for that I am sorry.
As for the chapter, I decided to have Dexy's Midnight Runners be the band the Dave would go to. He would have grown up around the time they spiked in popularity, And I think it plausible that he might have gotten Ellie to come along. In addition, I get the feeling that he and Ellie may have been in Lancashire for a while, considering Clara's accent. Thought came to me after watching Todd in the Shadows' One-Hit Wonderland review of said song.
This day will be split in two. Otherwise, it would be way too long.
Hopefully, the next one will be along soon.
