Ouch, it's been close to three months since I last updated. Sorry about that, had other things to focus on. So I was slowly writing this chapter, but the last couple of days, I was hit with inspiration and managed to complete this.
So I hope you all can trust me with me saying I hope you enjoy this chapter!
(Beavis and Butthead laugh, knowing what this episode and challenges were centered on.)
It was morning, and everyone was in the mess hall eating breakfast. Or whatever Chef was serving that that was considered breakfast.
"Today's breakfast, is Hawaiian-Chamorro Fusion Casserole." Chef said as he presented what was supposed to be the dish.
All it was, was it some kind of mush, and he added a straw to it.
"Yeah mean leftovers, from the cooking challenge." Gwen stated.
"Yeah that's right! You got a problem with that?!" Chef barked.
"Sir, no sir!" Gwen hastily said and gave him a salute, which Chef gave one back.
Gwen quickly walked away, and Melissa was the next to be served.
Melissa gave Chef crisper salute, and said," Thank you, sir."
Chef smirked, and gave one back and Melissa then walked away.
Heather, who was still feeling a little sick after being locked in the freezer for so long during the cooking challenge, had a blanket wrapped around her, and some coffee.
Leshawna and Gwen, the latter sat down next to her, both smirked in amusement.
"Need a little Echinacea?" Gwen joked.
Heather glared at her and said with stuffed up nose," Ha, you're so funny. You think you can get away with locking me in the freezer? I am gonna make you sorry that you ever met me."
"Too late." Gwen mocked whispered to Leshawna who chuckled.
"You are such a… a… achoo!" Heather sneezed, interrupting what she was going to say. "Ugh! I hate this place!"
Melissa sat down across from DJ, who feeding his rabbit. Melissa blinked as she saw him slurp up the food from the straw, and the spat out the food into bunny's mouth.
"Uh Deej…y'know some of the food in that is meat right?"
DJ's eyes widened, and gulped. "Uh, I'm going outside to find something that a bunny could eat. Save my spot Mel." He said, and rushed outside.
Melissa then noticed Duncan walking by, they saw each other for a moment and Melissa went to eating. Geoff, who was sitting next to Melissa, saw the exchange.
Geoff wasn't the smartest tool in the shed, but even he could see there were still some lingering issues from a couple of days ago. He also knew Melissa wasn't as mad at him or DJ, sure she forgave them, but she still gave them looks. Harold was okay with them, and so was Tyler, but he still felt bad, even though he apologized. And it did help that both Harold and Tyler were cool with him. Including the fact that Melissa kept her word, and didn't tell Bridgette about he was going to do. That would've seriously bummed out their growing connection.
While for Duncan, Melissa and he still had an air of tension. Geoff wasn't the type to have bad vibes, and wondered how the two of them would make up in some way.
He did internally chuckle about the thought of those two ending up together. The possibility of romantic tension was funny. But, Duncan looked like he was trying to get through with Courtney. The CIT may deny feelings for the dude, but from the looks of things, her defenses were waning. While for Melissa, the dudette had her sights on DJ, and vise versa, although the both of them didn't realize it yet.
But who knows, they'll realize it when they realize it.
With Duncan, the delinquent was getting some coffee. He glanced around for a moment, and then swiped another mug that was on the self, and pocked it. He was about to walk away, but Courtney intercepted him with a glare.
"I saw that! How can you steal a mug?"
"Cause it's cool looking and I don't have one. Didn't have one, that is." He said with smirk, and then walked to a table and sat down.
"But you might get kicked off!" Courtney countered.
"Awww, and here I thought you didn't care about me." Duncan teased.
"Look, we have both the number of players and winning advantage right now. And I don't want to lose it. And I know Melissa doesn't either. Speaking of her, what's been going on with you two? I had a feeling something happened during and after the cooking challenge."
It had been bugging her for the past couple of days, it seemed like the American had gotten annoyed with something. Not to mention she had gotten the way when she was near Duncan, and to some extent, DJ and Geoff. She had asked her what was going on, but the American replied that it was nothing, and she had it handled.
Which was sorta odd, considering Melissa and her talked about strategy, their teammates and whatever else that needed their attention. And normally she would try to get to the bottom of it, but she decided to leave it. But considering whatever was bugging her wasn't serious, she would let it go, for now.
Duncan, knowing Courtney would go blab, and cause more issues if he told her the real reason, deflected by smirking, and said," Why? Jealous? Thinking something is going on?"
"UGH!" Courtney growled and groaned in frustration. "Why do I even bother?" She said as she walked away more annoyed. But for some reason, she felt odd after hearing the last part.
Guess Chef's cooking was starting to get to her.
The scene then switched to the middle of the forest, and Chris walked into camera frame with frown on his face. If the people at home were watching, then they would've heard somber music.
"Hi. Chris here." Chris greeted with a saddened tone. "Sometimes teams just don't get along. So the producers and I thought the best way to work through the group friction would be… to exploit it for laughs." He said the last part happily.
"This is going to be awesome!" He excitedly said while rubbing his hands together in anticipation.
Later, both teams found themselves gathered at the dock, with Chris in front of them.
"So, last week's challenge exposed a few Gopher issues. And I'm sensing a little something funky floating in the Bass pond, too." Chris said.
On the Gopher's side, Gwen and Leshawna glared at Heather, with the latter doing the same. While for the Bass, Melissa glanced at Duncan, while Duncan smirked and nudged Courtney's side. Courtney's response was to push Duncan to the ground. And he soon got back up, and straightened himself out.
"So, this week's challenge is going to be centered around building trust. Because all good things begin with a little trust." Chris further explained.
-Confessional (Melissa)-
"If I had a nickel for all the trust related exercises I and my teammates did in all the sports I played in… I think I wouldn't need to be on the show." Melissa said, but she then had a slightly worried look. "But, sometimes they didn't go smoothly, and it bit us in the butt. So let's see how this goes."
"There will be four major challenges that will have to be completed by two or more members of your team. Normally, we like to have the campers choose their partners, but not this time! More fun for me!" Chris gleefully said, and the contestants shared worried looks.
-Confessional (Melissa)-
"Well, this is going to be interesting." She said with a slightly worried look and tone. But she then had her confident look back." But, whatever, Chris better bring his A game."
Later, the teams and Chris were gathered in front of a cliff side.
"Okay! So for the first challenge, you'll be doing an extreme freehand rock climbing adventure. Melissa and DJ will play for the Bass. While Heather and Gwen for the Gophers."
He then pulled some stuff out, and said," Here's your belay and harness."
He tossed both items at the chosen duos, with Melissa catching her and DJ's gear.
"Do you have any experience in rock climbing, Mel? I never tried it before." DJ said.
Melissa nodded, and said," Yeah, a couple of times. And don't worry, I trust you."
While Gwen did catch hers and Heathers, but Heather quickly took it away from the Goth.
"Hey! What's your damage?" Gwen yelled in annoyance.
"If you think I'm letting you hold me up, your nuts!" Heather shot back.
"You won't be holding her up exactly. One camper pulls the slacks through the belay as their partner climbs. If the climber falls, the belay will stop them from crashing. The catch? Both the side and the base of the mountain are rigged with a few minor distractions. Like rusty nails, slippery oil slicks, mild explosives and a few other surprises." Chris explained.
"Wicked." Harold said impressed.
"The person on belay must also harness their partner up. It's all about trust, people. And remember, never let go of the rope. Your partner's life depends on it."
"Excuse me, can we trade partners? I really don't feel like being dropped on my head today." Gwen said while glaring at Heather.
Heather rolled her eyes, and said," Please. As much as I love your company. I'm not gonna throw a challenge just to kill you. Yet. Now spread 'em."
DJ was finishing putting the harness on Melissa, when he saw Bunny come out of his pocket.
"Aw, sorry little buddy. I'm gonna be busy." He said as he held his pet, and then held him out to Geoff. "You can trust Geoff. He's my buddy. Yo Geoff. Hold Bunny while I hold the rope and Melissa?"
"Sure man." Geoff agreed, and he looked at the rabbit after DJ placed him in his hands. "Little Fury dude. What's up?"
Meanwhile with Gwen and Heather, the latter was finishing up with securing Gwen.
"There, you're all hooked up."
Gwen looked down, and raised a brow at another attached rope.
"What's the second rope for?" Gwen asked in suspicion.
"It's a backup line." Heather responded with a smile.
Gwen knew something was up, especially with Heather smiling, it smelled like trouble.
"What are you smiling about?"
"Nothing. I'm just really happy we got on this challenge together."
Gwen didn't looked convinced, and made a note to keep her guard up, and be on the lookout.
-Confessional (Heather)-
"It's all her fault for messing with me. I have a doctorate in revenge and humiliation." Heather declared.
Both Melissa and Gwen stood at the base of the cliff, once Chris fired off the air horn, they got to climbing. Melissa wasn't much into rock climbing, but she knew what to do. The only issue was, that she had to be extremely careful, due to not knowing where Chris had placed the traps. Both girls were neck-in-neck, with Melissa avoiding some nails on the Cliffside, and then had to brace herself, due to Gwen activating a couple of explosives, and she was thrown off with a scream.
Luckily, just like Heather said, she held the rope, and Gwen didn't fall to the ground.
"Don't worry! I got you!" Heather called.
Chris then appeared in front of the camera, and said. "I promise surprises. Habanero pepper sauce, anyone?" He then pulled out a water gun that was filled with sauce.
He then doused Heather with the sauce.
Heather screamed as she was covered with the pepper sauce, and also rubbed her eyes to get the sting and sauce out.
"What the hell, Chris?!"
The sound of screaming was heard, and Gwen came falling to the ground with a thud, due to Heather not supporting her.
"Muy Caliente." Chris happily said to the camera with a smile.
Chris then sprayed the sauce at DJ, he yelped and wiped the sauce off. Melissa luckily, held on to the rock, or else she would've crashed to the ground like Gwen did.
Melissa grabbed a rock, and tried to hoist herself up, but it was covered in grease. She almost slipped and was about to get her bearings, but an explosion knocked her off. She screamed for a moment, but realized she wasn't falling anymore. She looked down, and saw DJ was holding the rope again
DJ gave her thumbs up and said," Don't worry Mel! You can trust me."
-Confessional (DJ)-
"Even though Melissa forgave me for almost bullying Harold. I feel like I still need to show her that she could trust me. She's my friends, and someone I've grown to care about." He said the last part with a smile.
His eyes widened with the last thing he said, and then said," I mean as a friend! I care for her as a friend!"
Melissa gave him a thumbs up, and then did a swinging motion to grab the rocks. But, due to her obstacle, Gwen managed to get ahead of her. But Melissa got right back on her heels.
"Didn't think I was out for the count, huh?" Melissa said with a smirk.
Gwen matched the American's look as she looked down for a moment, and said," No, but your still going to eat my dust."
The two of them continued to climb, but soon, Heather enacted the plan she had come up with.
"Come on, Gwen! You don't wanna fall behind!" She called, and pulled the second rope she had attached earlier.
The rope was attached to Gwen's skirt, and it pulled it off. Not only was her skirt gone, but now Gwen's panties were not only being seen by everyone on the island. But also everyone at home watching this, once this particular episode premiered that is.
Gwen screamed in shock and embarrassment, while her skirt landed on Melissa's face.
Duncan looked up and said with a smirk," Well… you don't see that every day."
"No, you don't, my man. No you don't." Chris agreed as he stood next to Duncan, and was looking up as well.
Melissa removed the skirt from her face, and then looked up. She winced in sympathy, and climbed up a bit quicker, and handed it to the Goth.
Courtney, who was watching from below, scowled and said," Did she seriously help her again?"
"It was either that, or be semi-nude on international television." Bridgette pointed out. "Would you want that to happen to you?"
Courtney thought about it and groaned, knowing the surfer had a point. "No, I wouldn't want that."
Gwen grumbled a not so polite word to Heather, and then said to Melissa in a grateful tone," Thanks. This is like the second time you helped me with something."
"Hey, both times were good reasons. Well, later." Melissa said as she started to climb again.
No sooner did she start to climb again, another explosion went off, and Melissa screamed as she fell a good couple of feet. But luckily, DJ stopped her in time.
"Well, that was probably karma!" Duncan called, and he received a stern glare from Bridgette, even though the delinquent didn't give it a thought.
Melissa rolled her eyes, and got back on the cliff, and started climbing again.
Unfortunately, due to Melissa getting blasted off again, this gave Gwen enough time to make it to the top.
Gwen cheered, with her throwing the fist that held her skirt. She realized the mistake and held it in front of her underwear.
"Oh shit." She said in embarrassment.
"And the Gophers win the first challenge!" Chris declared, and the Gophers cheered.
"Well, this bites." Duncan said from below.
DJ, who was close enough to hear, said," Ugh, big time."
Melissa finally made it up, and Gwen helped her up.
"Thanks for helping again. Does Harold have anything else that would ruin Heathers day?" Gwen asked.
Melissa shook her head, and said," I'm afraid not."
"Dang it."
The second challenge took place in the mess hall. On the left side, Geoff and Bridgette were there for the Bass. While on the right side, Leshawna and Owen were there for the Gophers. Spotlights shined on both teams and also the podium in the middle. A stuntman then somersaulted from off camera and landed behind the podium in the middle. Chris stood up, did chopping motion, and crossed his arms.
"And now, round two! The extreme! Cooking! Challenge!" He declared with arms raised.
While he said that, the stuntman crawled on the ground and tried to not draw attention himself. Everyone did notice, and watched him leave, until he got out of the lodge with the sound of a door closing.
"Today, you'll be preparing Fugu Sashimi, the traditional Japanese Poisonous Blowfish." Chris further explained.
Chef wheeled in a fish tank that contained two of the said Blowfish. A gong went off, and Chris pointed a baton at a projector that showed a diagram of the inside of the fish.
"The Fugu Blowfish contains enough lethal toxins to kill thirty people. They must be sliced very carefully to cut around the poisonous organs. The poison paralyzes the nerves and there is no antidote. So now worries."
Chef tapped the tank with a small fish net, and the blowfish puffed up. Chef grabbed the fish by their tails, and said as he tossed them to both tables," Fishes! Meet your makers!"
Geoff gulped, and said to Bridgette," I'm not that good of a chef. How are you with it?"
He would've used the chance to impress Bridgette, and show off his cooking skills. But he didn't want risk injuring or killing her. Also, he did hear that she was a Vegetarian, and also ate fish. She she probably had more experience.
"I cook and eat fish all the time. You can trust me." Bridgette confidently said, and Geoff believed her.
Owen looked excited and said to Leshawna," I can cook the fish! Please?"
-Confessional (Leshawna)-
"That boy better be good. Or else I'll be haunting his ass for the rest of his life." Leshawna said with a scowl, but then had a worried look.
"And now, after getting the approval from a different show, or else we would've been sued. Allez Cuisine!" He said with the signature pose.
Bridgette and Owen were given about an hour to make their dishes. Once the hour was up, both chefs presented their vict- I mean teammates what they were going to eat. Bridgette's looked like a traditional sushi platter. While Owen's looked presentable, none of it was missing, which meant the big guy didn't eat anything. And instead of Sushi, he made Nigiri, with rice on the bottom, and rectangles of blowfish meat were on top.
Geoff was the first to try the Sushi, and he took his time to eat it, and then swallowed.
"Right on! This is excellent!" Geoff congratulated with a double thumbs up, and Bridgette was both happy and relieved.
Now, it was Leshawna's turn, and she picked a piece of Nigiri, and ate it. Like Geoff, she took a moment to eat it, and then swallowed.
Leshawna blinked, smiled finding the fish to be good. And then said," Alright, I'll give this one a ten. Good job, Owen."
-Confessional (Owen)-
Owen smiled and said," Sure I love to eat. But cooking and then eating the finished dish is also good." He then gasped in realization. "I can probably become the Canadian Chef Gusteau. I wonder if I can find a rat to train to be a cook! That would be awesome!"
Chris and Chef looked slightly crestfallen, due to no one getting poisoned and Chris then said," Well, that's two for Gophers and one for the Bass. We'll head into a commercial break so we can prepare for the next set of challenges."
Like Chris said, production was getting the third challenge set up, so the campers got time to relax. Geoff and Bridgette used this time to change into their swimsuits and go for a swim.
"Last one in is a rotten Blowfish!" Geoff said as he ran on the dock with Bridgette, but stopped. "Oh wait!" He then pulled Bunny out of his pocket.
"Gotta put Bunny in a safe spot first." He said, and went over to the lifeguard chair.
"You were so brave to eat that fish." Bridgette complimented Geoff.
There was a part of her that thought she wouldn't cook it right, sure she knew how to prepare, cook and eat fish. But, she never had experience with one that was deadly. But she was glad Geoff trusted her enough to make the dish right, and then eat it.
"No biggie. I knew I could trust you. You're cool." Geoff said, which made the surfer smile and blush at the compliment.
She briefly remembered the previous times Geoff had flirted… or attempted to flirt with her. It was a mixed bag, but in some way she found it cute and admirable. Not to mention the times he stepped up during challenges, or went out of his to help her. Also, he was being himself, and wasn't trying to do anything outlandish or awkward to impress her. She also did remember Melissa say that he wasn't a bad guy, and that he was just trying to impress her, in his own way. This did help in seeing Geoff in a good light.
Not counting the odd and slightly heavy atmosphere after the cooking challenge. She wasn't the one to pry, but she did notice the looks the Athletic Nerd gave and vice versa with Geoff, DJ and Duncan. Including when they were enjoying the five star dinner as their reward for winning. Bridgette wasn't the one to pry, but she had to ask.
All Melissa said was that the three of them were planning on doing something stupid, and she took care of it. She didn't have to worry about. She felt like she should've, but she trusted her friend, and let it be. And things seemed to go back to normal, even though she caught Melissa giving Duncan a looking a few times, and so did the delinquent.
It wasn't anything romantic, which was a relief, she was still rooting for her and DJ… she was still trying to figure out a ship name for them.
DJissa? Meld?
Ugh, she had to remind herself to ask DJ if his name were initials for his real name or not. Her names were not working.
"Besides, you know what else is cool?" He said, and proceeded to cheer as he dived into the water.
Bridgette laughed, and jumped in after him.
A couple of minutes later, Bridgette and Geoff got out of the water to dry off. While Bridgette used a towel, Geoff proceeded to shake himself off like a dog. Bridgette found it amusing, but the amusement was short lived when she looked up, and gasped in horror. Geoff looked at where the surfer was looking, and his blood went cold. A snake had slithered it's way to the lifeguard chair, and was about to pounce on bunny.
"Bunny! No!" He cried as he sprinted towards the pet.
He didn't make it in time, and saw the snake snatch the frightened and defenseless rabbit into his mouth and swallowed. Geoff wasn't going to let his friends pet be eaten, and approached the snake. Just when he was about to grab it, and eagle swooped in and took it by its talons.
The both of them tried to grab it, and the eagle then landed at the end of the dock. Geoff tried to approach it silently from behind. But before he could get closer, a shark surfaced from the water, snatched all three animals into its mouth and went back underwater.
Geoff blinked shock and then had a worried look," Oh shit! Oh man, what am I gonna tell DJ?"
Bridgette placed a comforting hand," We'll figure it out."
"Figure what out?" A familiar voice asked.
The both of them turned to see Melissa.
"Uh hey Mel… what are you doing here?" Geoff asked.
"Chris said that the challenge is almost done, and he needs us back in 15 minutes. So I went to find you guys." She explained, and then noticed the looks the two had. "What's wrong?"
Geoff would've lied to the American, but he knew telling her the truth was better.
He sighed regrettably, and said," Bridge and I went for a quick swim. I placed bunny on the lifeguard chair. After we got out…a snake got it, and then eagle got them and then a shark ate them. Bunny's gone."
Melissa eyes widened, and then looked at Bridgette, who sadly nodded.
"Oh."
Later, both teams were in a clearing, and Chris was explaining the next set of challenges.
"Good news, the third round involves three more challenges. it's the three blind challenges. it begins with the blind William Tell, followed by the blind trapeze and then finally, the treacherous blind toboggan."
As Chris was explaining, DJ looked at Geoff, and asked," Hey, where's Bunny? I miss him."
Geoff flinched, and said," Uh Bunny… I-"
Melissa came to his rescue, and said," He's back at the cabin. Geoff told me he put him there."
DJ nodded, satisfied with the answer. Geoff gave the American grateful look.
-Confessional (Melissa)-
"Yeah, I didn't want to lie, but it was best that DJ found out after the challenge. So we can let him down easy. Ugh, this reminds me of when I was visiting my cousins, and their dog got attacked by a feral dog, and had to be put down. We had to tell them that it ran away." She sadly said.
Her eyes widened when she realized what she said. She slapped her hands over her mouth in shock.
She then removed her hands, and said," Uh, if any of you in production are hearing this. Please don't include this once it airs. But if it does air... sorry guys."
Chris placed camo glasses like they used during the Paintball Deer Hunt challenge, and an arrow on DJ's head.
"Like legendary marksman William Tell, you'll be knocking arrows off your partners head, with crabapples." He explained further.
"Uh… isn't it the other way around?" Courtney asked.
"Shush. Also, the shooter will be blindfolded." Chris said, as he started to put a blindfold on himself.
A couple of people gasped, including DJ, who realized he was going to be part of the demonstration. The people around him moved out of the way.
"The person, who knocks off the arrow while also causing least amount of facial damage, wins." Chris said.
He then aimed a slingshot, and fired the apple. The apple then hits DJ… in his kiwis. DJ groaned in pain, as he held his family jewels, and fell to the ground.
"Aw nuts." Chris said as he saw that he missed. "Gwen and Owen, you'll be one team. Courtney and Tyler, you'll be the other."
Tyler grinned, and said," I'll be the shooter! I'm a great shot."
Courtney thought otherwise and said," Uh Chris, can I-"
"Nope, Tyler called dibs. Looks like you'll be the target." Chris happily said.
"Ugh fine. You better be a good shot." She said the last part to Tyler.
"Alright, lets rock and roll!" Chris said.
Tyler went to get his and Courtney's gear. He then winked Lindsay, who blushed, with the former hoping to impress her.
Both teams got into position, and both Gwen and Tyler got to work shooting their apples. As one would expect, due to them being blindfolded, both Gwen and Tyler hit their teammates in various places. Courtney made her pain known by verbally crying out, while Owen took it like a champ, and didn't say anything. Although with the confused and slightly woozy look on his face, due to getting hit in the one to many times, he was starting to feel the effects. Another thing was that Gwen was aiming and making sure she got the shot right, Tyler thought otherwise, and fired his apples in rapid fire succession. Which was good for Courtney, who ended up getting pelted a lot.
Gwen fired another apple, and it pierced the arrow on Owen's head, and fell to the ground.
"Finally." Owen said, a little woozy.
Gwen removed her blindfold, and said," Did I hit it?"
Tyler didn't hear, or he did, but didn't care and continued to launch apples.
"Hang on, I think I got it!" Tyler said.
"Leshawna won already." Chris pointed out.
"Hey Einstein the- Ow!" Courtney tried to say, but she was hit again.
Tyler continued to fire apples, with various people dodging… except for Lindsay, who accidently got hit before she could, and fell down. Beside people, he ended up hitting the local wildlife, which included a Yeti watching TV in a cave.
"Tyler! It's over, man! Let it go!" Chris said as, he shook the jocks shoulder.
Tyler removed his blindfold, and sheepishly said," Oh, my bad. Got into the zone."
Courtney was swaying, and looked like she was going to pass out. "You are so… going down." After saying that, she finally passed out, and fell onto the ground.
After Courtney was placed into the medical tent, Chris and the contestants were at the next challenge location. With it being a trapeze that was situated above water.
"And now, the blind trapeze! To avoid serious injury, the trapeze has been set up over this pond… which is full of jellyfish."
Everyone looked down in the water, and gasped at seeing the said jellyfish.
"Due to the Bass having the numbers advantage, they'll be having two teams. But don't worry, it's only worth one point. It depends if the Gophers make it or not. Heather and Lindsay will go for the Gophers, with Heather blindfolded. While Bridgette and Harold, Melissa and Katie for the Bass, with Melissa and Bridgette being the ones blindfolded. You three will stand blinded folded on the platform until your partners tell you when to jump."
"And then?" Heather asked.
"Then hopefully they'll catch you." Chris said. "Or that'll be one heck of a painful swim."
Melissa wondered if it was a good idea for her to write out a Will.
Bridgette, Harold, Heather and Lindsay were going first, so she and Katie sat back.
Melissa noticed the worried look Katie had, and she gave her a supportive look. "Hey don't worry, I trust you, you got this."
Katie smiled with a nod.
As both teams got ready, DJ stood next to Geoff, and he thought of something.
"I think I'm going to see how Bunny is doing. I'll be back in a second."
Melissa, who was near DJ, knew she would have to tell him the truth. But before she could, Geoff beat her to it.
"Uh Deej… I gotta tell you something, it's about Bunny." Geoff started to say, but winced a little when he saw the Brickhouse tear up a little.
"W-well you see… I put him… he's not with us anymore… he uh hopped away. But… I'm sure he'll be back. Sorry dude." Geoff managed to say.
He would've told him the truth, but he didn't want to see his friend look worse. And he already still felt bad about what happened.
"No… it's not your fault man." DJ sadly said, and walked away to be by himself for a little bit. "My little Bunny… we were such good friends."
DJ then fell to his knees, and cried out into the heavens," Bunny! Why'd you do me like this?!"
Geoff looked like he was going to comfort him, but Melissa shook her head, which meant to give DJ some space. She did notice Duncan leave, and was about to ask him where he was going, but Harold and Bridgette were about to do the challenge. Harold was already swinging on the swing by his legs, while Bridgette was blindfolded, and stood on the board.
"Okay Bridgette, are you ready?" Harold said.
Once the surfer nodded, the geek said," Jump now!"
Bridgette was about to, but she got scared, and held onto a support beam.
Harold groaned, not just because the blood was rushing to his head," If we're going to win. You got to trust me."
"Okay sorry. Next time."
"Okay 1…2…3! Jump now!"
Bridgette did just that, and once she was in the air, she felt Harold's hands, and she held on tightly.
"Alright Bridge! That was awesome!" Melissa cheered along with the rest of the team.
Once Harold and Bridgette got off, it was Heather and Lindsay's turn.
"Okay, One…two…three! J-jump! Wait! No! Not yet!" Lindsay said as she made miscalculation.
By the time Lindsay finished her sentence, Heather had already jumped. And proceeded to fall into the water, and get stung repeatedly by the jellyfish. Heather's screams were heard, and while some people winced, Gwen and Melissa grinned, and shared a nod.
-Confessional (Gwen)-
"Ahh. Sometimes the universe just gives you a freebie." Gwen happily said. She then looked up and gave the universe a double thumbs up.
-Confessional (Melissa)-
"And that my friends, is karma." Melissa said with a smile.
Melissa stood in the board, blindfolded, while Katie was hanging and swinging on the trapeze.
"Alright Bass, this is your final trust jump. You'll get a point if you make this. Which will get you in the lead." Chris said.
Melissa said a short prayer in her head as she prepared herself. She didn't know which was more dangerous, rock climbing with explosives, or getting caught by a partner above a pool of jellyfish.
'You can do this. You can do this. For Sadie.' Katie said in her head. "Alright Melissa, on the count of three… Three!"
Melissa jumped, and held her hands out. For one glorious second, she felt Katie's hands, and closed them. But apparently it wasn't strong enough, due to either girl losing their grip, and Melissa fell into the water with a scream.
Now, Melissa had been shocked before, like static electricity, or touching a light-switch with a wet hand. But nothing could compare to the pain of over a dozen or more jellyfish stung her at once.
"AAAAAAAHHHH!" Melissa screamed in pain.
Everyone winced, although Katie looked mortified. DJ, who wasn't having the best day so far, due to getting hit in the kiwis and losing Bunny, but he felt his heart clench when he saw his friend get hurt.
He sniffed, today was not a good day.
"Well, Bass still get one point for successfully getting one of their teams to complete this challenge. Score is tied." Chris said.
Once both girls were fished out of the small pond, the both of them were able to walk to the infirmary, both sporting jellyfish on them. While Heather had her's on her head, Melissa had her's on her leg.
"Well, this is such a great day, huh?" Melissa sarcastically said, and then shook in pain when the jellyfish shocked her.
Heather was too angry and in pain to make fun of her, and said, "Yep, stupid challenge. Stupid Chris making us trust those idiots." She then got shocked as well.
Melissa didn't agree on the last part, but the former she agreed to.
Thankfully, the tent wasn't that far, and Melissa fell onto the bed that was next to Courtney's. Courtney groaned as she started to wake up. She then shot up wide awake and looked around.
"Where am I? What happened to you two?"
"Ugh, courtesy of the challenge we went through." Melissa grumbled. She then let out a curse once she got stung again.
"The infirmary. Got anything for removing jellyfish?" Heather asked Chef, who was in there with them.
Chef, who was wearing a nurse's uniform, nodded. Heather gave him a thumps up, and let herself lay down on the gurney.
Courtney gave both girls a look of sympathy, even though she wasn't a fan of Heather, she didn't deserve that. She then noticed something outside. Duncan was walking backwards holding out a carrot, and a rabbit was following him.
"What's Duncan doing with a rabbit?" Courtney thought aloud.
Melissa, who saw this as well, figured out what he was doing and grinned a little bit. But went back to a pained grimace when she was shocked again.
Later, the campers who weren't injured were waiting for Chris to explain the final challenge.
"And now, the final leg. The blind toboggan race." Chris said, as he pointed at some toboggan's that were near a tree.
"The blind what now?" Leshawna questioned with a worried look.
"Each team will have a driver and a navigator. The driver steers while the navigator shouts directions. Oh yeah. And the driver will be blindfolded." Chris explained the twist, which caused everyone to gasp in shock and slight fear.
Chris chuckled." Not many of you left, huh? Keep losing you guys. Oh well. For the Gophers… Gwen and Leshawna. And for the Bass… Geoff and DJ."
While both girls on the Gophers were more than willing to trust each other on this, it was a different story with the Bass. Geoff looked at DJ, who still looked sad about Bunny. And he was worried that things wouldn't work out for them.
Once both teams made it up the hill, they were waiting for Chef to finish whatever he was doing to their toboggans. Although it was probably something not good, due to the cook putting what looked like grease on the bottoms of it.
"DJ, dude. I know you're still sad about your pet bunny, but we gotta focus here." Geoff tried to encourage his friend. "This could be life or seriously heinous injury, bro!"
DJ sniffed sadly and said," Bunny deserted me. Why should I trust you?"
"Because I don't wanna get hurt either!" Geoff said, and looked at Chef.
Chef noticed the party dude, and showed him his handiwork. The cook chuckled sinisterly and said," Just lubing them up. Give them a little bit more speed. Hehe."
Geoff looked even more worried, and hoped they would get out of this unscathed.
Both teams soon got ready to slide down, and were waiting for Chris's signal.
"On your marks… get set." Chris said, and proceeded to blow an air horn.
Both teams then slid down the hill, even with the downward slope, thanks to Chef's modification, the toboggans were speeding down the hill in record speed. Gwen and Leshawna were doing well enough, with Gwen giving good directions for Leshawna to follow. While for Geoff and DJ, Geoff was doing well with directions like Gwen, but DJ's heart wasn't into steering or doing the challenge in general.
One interesting thing that soon happened was that the Gophers ended up sliding on a rock like a ramp, and flew into the air. Leshawna whooped in joy, while Gwen thought otherwise. They then landed on a river, fell down a waterfall and then used a big branch below as a catapult that flung them into the air.
With Geoff and DJ, they were still on the path, but thing still weren't going as smoothly.
"DJ! We really need you to steer dude! Bunny would want you to live! And… not to mention Melissa would as well!" Geoff said, hoping that mentioning the girl would lift his spirits. "She's rooting and counting on you, dude!"
DJ looked to be considering his words, and before he could think on it further, he heard someone call out his voice.
"Hey DJ! Look what I found!" Duncan called from below with his arms raised and closed. He then opened them to reveal that he had a bunny in his hands.
Geoff brightened, and said," DJ! Duncan found bunny!"
DJ perked up, hoping what he said was true, and said," Don't tease me man." He then lifted up his blindfold, and sure enough, Duncan did indeed have Bunny. "Bunny! You came back!"
And with that incentive, DJ got serious, put his blindfold back on, and said," Alright! Let's do this!"
And with that, DJ put his heart into steering, while Geoff directed him. Things were looking good for them, but two things happened. One, Leshawna and Gwen returned after their little detour, and got a small lead. And also explosions started to go off around them.
"What the heck was that?!" DJ called, while Geoff held onto the Brickhouse for dear life.
Down below, Chris was holding a TNT detonator, and he then pushed the lever to detonate the explosives.
Chris smirked, and said," We had some leftover explosives. And I just hate to waste." He said and gleefully activated the lever again.
Both teams continued to go down the hill, even with the explosives going off around them. Until one explosive blasted DJ and Geoff into the air, while Leshawna and Gwen continued on. The Gophers below thought that the rival team were out for the count, and cheered. But it was short lived when DJ and Geoff's toboggan came literally crashing onto the finish line. The Bass were now the ones to cheer, having another victory under their belts.
DJ got up, removed his blindfold, and got Bunny from Duncan. DJ sniffed as held his bunny, happy he was okay. He then looked at Duncan thankfully and said," Thanks, Duncan. You're the best."
"Whatever, man. It's just a stupid rabbit." Duncan said without a care.
"I can't believe you found DJ a new rabbit. You're a good guy." Courtney said with a smile, as she was coming back from the infirmary.
Melissa approached as well, minus having a jellyfish on her, but she still looked a little frazzled. And she was grinning like Courtney.
"Yeah, I gotta say, you sure proved me wrong." Melissa said, and then flinched like she was being shocked.
Apparently, she was still dealing with slight side effects of the jellyfish. But, she was glad that Duncan proved he was a good person.
"What, no I'm not." Duncan denied.
Neither girl was deterred with Courtney saying," You are. You're actually nice."
"I don't know what either of you are talking about." Duncan continued to deny.
Melissa smirked, and said," We both saw you dude. There's no denying it."
"Whatever He wouldn't leave me alone, weird rabbit." Duncan said, but then caved when he saw the looks both girls were giving him." Okay fine, I did it. Are you both happy now? Listen, don't tell anybody, okay? I don't want any of them thinking I'm soft or anything."
"You're secret is safe with me." Courtney said, as she walked off.
"Same, but, you do have others to consider as well." Melissa pointed out, as she pointed to the cameras, and walked off as well.
Duncan realized what she meant, and stared at the film crew, who waved at him.
-Confessional (Duncan)-
"I'm not nice, okay? Just to set the record straight." Duncan said in a threatening tone.
"And the Bass are the winners of the Toboggan race!" Chris announced, and the Bass cheered, but not for long. "But unfortunately, I said that these were blind challenges. By taking off the blindfold for a moment, you broke the number one rule. Which makes the Gophers today's big winners!"
The Gophers cheered, not just because they won, but also the fact that their losing streak was over.
Later that night, the Bass were going to vote off one of their own. And after tonight's bonfire ceremony, only eight would remain.
"Let's see… one for Bridgette, one for Duncan and one each for Melissa and Courtney." Chris started off, and tossed marshmallows to the ones he called. "DJ, Geoff and Harold, well done my brotha's."
After giving the last three, only Tyler and Katie remained. While Tyler looked worried, Katie looked slightly resigned.
"Tyler, you're picked because of your terrible shooting skills. Even though you said you were accurate. And Kate, you're here because you allowed one of your teammates to be shocked by jellyfish. That was quite shocking." He said the last part with a laugh, which made Katie feel worse. And the host ignored the glares the others, mainly Melissa, were giving him.
"And the final marshmallow goes to… Katie."
Katie was shocked as she grabbed the marshmallow, while Tyler slumped down in sadness. DJ and Geoff, who were near him, patting him on the back
"Ah man. Well, I had fun while it lasted. Melissa, once this is over. Let's see who the more superior athlete is. You, me or Eva, what do you say?" Tyler said.
Melissa nodded, accepting the challenge, and said," I'm looking forward to it dude. You're on."
With his spirits slightly lifted, Tyler walked to the Dock of Shame, with his head held high.
"Well, let's see if the rest of you can pull back after this loss. Other than that, your all safe, for now." Chris said.
-Confessional (Lindsay)-
Lindsay looked sad, and said. "I can't believe his gone. But like I'll never forget our time together." She said the last part happily. "I'll never forget you Taylor, I mean Tyler. Bye." She said as she blew a kiss and waved.
As the Bass walked away from the campfire, Bridgette remembered something, and then walked over to DJ," Hey DJ, I've been wondering. Does your name stand for something, or is it just letters?"
DJ looked confused by the question at first, but said," It stand's for Devon Joseph, why?"
Bridgette nodded, and said," Just wondering, thanks." She said, and walked off to talk with Melissa and Katie.
The brickhouse was confused, but shrugged it off. He then looked at Bunny, and he still felt glad that he had him back.
Meanwhile, Bridgette was internally cheering on the new names she could think of for him and Melissa.
And like that, Tyler is now out, and Katie is still in, and not voted off like Sadie was in this episode like in canon. (Screw you O'Hara... for those of you who get the reference)
I might have an in-between or two before heading into the next episode. Also, try and figure out those references I had in there as well.
Also, here's some things I was originally going to do while writing this chapter:
Melissa and Katie were going to be part of the Fugu challenge, with Katie cooking and messing up. Thus poisoning Melissa, but I didn't want to put her through that. So I allowed her to be stung by jellyfish instead. And also you can see that no one on the Gophers were poisoned, I decided to throw them a bone and not have that happen.
Melissa and Duncan were supposed to do the rock climbing challenge, I even had it written out, but settled on her and DJ.
That's all I have for now, till next time.
