Bella Swan
Two months. It has been two months since Sita left. When I returned home and informed Charlie of what had happened, he was not happy. He wanted to see his granddaughter, to meet her, and I didn't give him that chance. I felt horrible, all I did was think about myself and how I felt. Not once did I give Charlie a thought. Something I will regret for the rest of my life. Now that I was no longer pregnant, I wonder what the Volturi would do with me. Would they turn me or kill me? I was too scared to dwell on it for very long.
I haven't seen nor spoken to any of the Cullens, it was easy to avoid them when I never leave my house. The school was out of the question. How would I explain where I have been for the last few months? Charlie told me I needed to go back, but he usually avoids me if he can. Of course, I don't blame him. Maybe it's time for me to just move on. I had all this money saved in case I was keeping the baby, I could move to some random place where no one knew who I was. I could start all over, a clean slate.
I laughed at myself. No matter how hard it got, there was no way I would leave here. This was the last place the Taylors saw me. Of course, I could always send a postcard or something. Maybe send birthday cards over the years, until she wanted to meet me. I sighed and went for a shower. I felt so dirty like I did something unforgivable. Maybe I did. Sita has her best chance at growing up happy and safe. That's all that should matter – that's all that does matter.
Jake was sitting on my bed when I got out of the shower. I let out a startled squeak and grabbed the towel tighter around me. "Jake? What are you doing here? How did you get in here?"
Jake just grinned and pointed towards the window. "The front door was locked."
"Of course it was!" I screeched. "It means I don't want any company."
"Well, if you bothered to pick up your phone, I wouldn't have had to come all the way here just to check on you."
"There is no need to check on me. I am fine." I argued.
He raised his brow in doubt. "You don't look fine to me. People who are fine leave their house and pick up their damn phone once in a while."
"I am fine," I replied stubbornly. "Please leave."
Jake sighed and stood, his shoulders slumped in defeat. "I am here if you need to talk, Bella." Not waiting for a reply he jumped out of the window. I screamed and ran to the window peering out. Jake was standing on the ground, unhurt. He gave a little wave and took off running toward the woods.
After he left, I quickly got dressed, in case he decided to come back. As soon as I finished, there was a knock on my door. Annoyed, I made my way downstairs to tell whoever it was to come back later; but as soon as the door was open, I froze in fear.
"Bella, motherhood becomes you." Aro greeted. "May I come in?"
"Do you need an invitation to come in?" I asked shakily.
He stepped through the door, a grin on his face. "Of course not. I was just being polite." He took a seat on the couch. "Please sit, we have something to discuss."
I took a seat, unable to do anything else. "Discuss what exactly?"
"Your future."
"Is this the part where you tell me I have no future because I know your secret?"
Aro chuckled, "That, my dear, is entirely up to you."
"How so?"
"You have to decide which fate is worse: to die a human death or to become a soulless monster."
"What is the catch to becoming a vampire?" I asked. This was all happening too fast. I thought I would have more time to decide. If I am perfectly honest, I thought they were just going to kill me.
"It is a tough decision. The only catch as you say, is if you are to become a vampire, you must join my ranks."
I stared at him, aghast. "I would be your loyal soldier for eternity?"
"No, not eternity." He chuckled. "I only require 20 years of service from any of my soldiers. After that, you are free to leave. Most don't, but there are a few who have left. Carlisle is one of them."
"I wouldn't have to kill anyone, would I?" I asked.
"Feeding on animals like the Cullens do make them weak. They are not at full strength, the only reason why they win at anything is because of Alice."
I chewed my bottom lip silently, weighing the options. If I refused and died, I would never get to see Sita again, but on the other hand, would I want her to meet me when I will be such a monster? "I understand feeding on animals makes vampires weaker, but if I chose it, would you hate me?"
Aro stared at me for a moment, his red eyes piercing my very soul. "No, I would not hate you, but you wouldn't be as useful. I wouldn't hold it against you, of course. It would depend on the abilities you would possess as a vampire."
"And if I possess no extra abilities?" I questioned.
He shrugged, "He would find something for you to do for your 20 years."
"How long do I have to think about this?" I asked.
Aro thought a moment before answering, "Two days should be enough time."
"Two days?" I screeched. "I only have 2 days to decide if I want to die or to kill people for eternity?"
Aro shrugged. "I will be back in two days Bella." Aro walked out the door and disappeared in a blur.
I dropped to my knees and cried.
Two Days Later...
Aro arrived right on schedule. I knew my answer, but I didn't feel 100% confident I was making the right choice. Aro sat on the couch again and I sat across from him on the chair.
"Before I get your answer, do you have any questions for me?" Aro asked.
"Will it hurt?" I wanted to ask the Cullens all these questions, but I couldn't bring myself to go see them.
"Yes." Aro replied bluntly, "I will not sugarcoat it. The pain of transformation will be excruciating, like nothing you have ever felt before. Everyone is different, but the longest it lasts is 3 days."
I shuddered. "And after the transformation is complete?"
"The only thing on your mind will be blood."
"How long till I am more myself?"
"It is different for everyone. Could be days, weeks, months, or years. You will always have the blood lust, Bella. After you feed a few times, you will be a little more like yourself. Until you have your blood lust under control, you will stay in the castle. We can't have our secret spilled after all."
"Of course." I swallowed nervously. "Do you think I will enjoy being a vampire?"
Aro looked a little startled at my question, but he recovered quickly. "In the beginning, you will love it. You will be stronger, and faster, and discover things you aren't able to as a human. After a while, the thrill will die, and I suppose it will depend on your character."
"Oh," I replied.
We sat in silence for a few minutes and then Aro looked at me pointedly. "Have you come to a decision?"
I nodded slowly. "I am not sure if this is the right choice or not, only time will tell. I have chosen to become a vampire and to serve under you until my service is complete. After that, I am not sure if I will still think this was the right choice or not, but I am willing to give it a shot."
Aro nodded. "Very well. Pack what you need. We will be on our way shortly."
I nodded. I ran upstairs, grabbed a bag, and threw a few things in there. I grabbed all my photos and my favorite stuffed pig. Then I grabbed a few pieces of paper and began writing. When I was done, I left the letter on my desk and went downstairs.
"I am ready," I said. Aro nodded, grabbed me by the waist, and suddenly a big whoosh of wind hit my face. My eyes shut on their own and when I opened them, we were standing at a private airport. We boarded the plane, and I fell asleep as soon as we took off. When Aro woke me up, we were already inside his castle.
"This will be your room," Aro stated, gesturing to the huge room we were in. "Take a bath, change, and then we shall begin."
"Already?" I asked.
"Yes, the sooner we get this part over with, the better."
I handed him some envelopes. "I would like you to mail this after the transformation begins. Please."
"Of course. For the Cullens I presume?" I nodded, "How fortunate for them to have someone who cares for them so."
I stared at him oddly, "I guess."
He clapped his hands and two women appeared in front of us. "This is Mary and Anne. They will be your maids."
I nodded at both of them, noticing their red eyes, and shivered. "Take me to my bath."
Carlisle Cullen
Two months. It has only been two months since she left, but at the state of this house, you would think she died. The loss of both Bella and the baby has left a scar I didn't think was possible. I am not sure how to fix it this time. I sighed and then stiffened when I heard a car coming down the driveway. It sounded like Charlie.
I met him at the door, he was upset and angry. "Charlie. What is the matter?"
"Bella left." Charlie wailed. "She left, and it's all my fault."
"Please come in." I gestured, and he walked sullenly into the living room. He sat down on the sofa heavily. "Why is Bella leaving your fault?"
"I have been a horrible dad to her for the last couple of months. She told me she gave the baby up for adoption, and I was so angry with her for not letting me see her first. I was being selfish, I wasn't even thinking about how she must be feeling after a loss like that."
"How do you know she left?" I asked. Charlie handed me a piece of paper. A letter addressed to Charlie. "May I?" He nodded.
Dad-
Before I say anything, I just want you to know, this had nothing to do with you. I am so sorry I couldn't face you to tell you that I have decided to leave. I have such a heavy broken heart, I don't want to drag you down with me. I know I hurt you with my decisions lately, especially concerning your granddaughter. I am so sorry you never got to meet her. I put a picture of her in here for you. I know it is not the same thing, but I hope it is enough for now. Maybe the Taylors will let you meet her once they are settled.
I will not tell you where I am going. I don't want you to try to bring me back. I have made my decision. I need a fresh start, where no one will know me or know what I have done. Please forgive me, Daddy. Remember that I love you, and when I feel better, I will come to visit.
Bella
I looked up from the letter alarmed. Would Bella have left without saying goodbye to us? Of course, she would. "Charlie, when did you find this?"
"Just now. I have been away for the last 3 days for work. I just got home today." 3 days, is quite the head start. From upstairs, Alice screamed. "What was that? Was that Alice?"
I nodded my head, urging Charlie out the front door. "Sorry, Charlie. The news of Bella has upset her. Thank you for letting us know."
"Well, I-" I shut the door, cutting off his reply. "You're welcome." He replied grumpily.
I returned to the living room. The family was already gathered. Alice was in hysterics and Edward was very angry. "Alice? What did you see?"
"Bella." She whispered, "She agreed to become a vampire."
"What?" I asked dumbfounded. "When?"
"It seems Bella left with Aro 4 days ago," Alice replied.
"Why didn't you see this sooner?" I asked, curious. "I thought you were keeping an eye on her."
"I was. She seemed fine the last 2 months, a little depressed maybe, but she was fine. I left when that mutt showed up and haven't had the chance to return yet."
"You didn't see when she decided to become a vampire?" Edward growled. "That is a pretty major decision."
"I know it is!" Alice screamed. "I feel awful enough as it is, Edward. If you could read her mind, we wouldn't be in this mess. Or god forbid, you accept your stupid feelings for her and get over your angsty bullshit, she wouldn't have turned to Aro."
Edward looked as if he had been slapped. "Do not blame this on me. She was the one who left. Not me!"
"Enough," I said. "Arguing about this is pointless. It has been 4 days. She is probably already a vampire."
"Yo Dr. Cullen! You got some mail from Italy!" We all turned towards the front door at the voice. It was Jacob Black.
"What the hell is mutt doing here?" Rosalie asked.
"Let's find out," Emmett replied, flexing his muscles. "I am ready for a fight."
"Hey, whoa!" Jacob replied through the door. "I didn't come here to fight. Believe me, I do not want to be here at all. I found out Bella is missing, so I figured she might be with you bloodsuckers."
Emmett opened the door and Jake took a step back, pulling his arms up in surrender. "Why would you think she was here?"
Jacob shrugged, "I knew she was in love with one of you, so I figured since she was missing, she decided to become one of you or whatever. I was told to come here to make sure you guys remembered the treaty."
Edward growled. "The treaty has not been broken, and Bella is not here."
"Wait, did you say I had mail from Italy?" I interrupted.
Jacob nodded and handed me the letters. "Who do you know in Italy?"
I ignored Jacob and tore open the envelope. As I read the contents of the letter, I heard Edward slump to the floor in defeat. "It's true," I replied quietly.
"What's true?" Jacob asked, curious.
"Bella has become a vampire. She works for the Volturi."
Jacob turned pale, "She's a... vampire?" I nodded. "And you didn't turn her?"
"No, we didn't break the treaty, Jacob."
He cleared his throat, his voice hoarse. "Thanks for letting me know. Bye." He shifted in front of us and took off towards the forest. Seconds later, howls filled the woods.
"Poor Jacob, I suspect he was in love with her too," Esme spoke, breaking the silence.
Edward growled, "What are we going to do?"
I sighed, "There is nothing we can do, Edward. She chose this. She is stuck in Aro's service."
"That is bullshit. Why the hell didn't she come to us for?"
"She probably thought we hated her." We all turned to look at Jasper in shock, he never spoke.
"What do you mean?" Alice asked.
"Think about it. We wanted to adopt her baby and she said no. She probably thought we wanted nothing to do with her anymore."
"Why would she think that? None of us hated her." Emmett defended.
"Speak for yourself," Rosalie muttered.
"None of us tried to contact her either."
"We were giving her space to grieve."
"She took that as us abandoning her."
"Oh, that's awful. Carlisle, what can we do?" Esme turned pleading eyes at me.
I sighed, "As I said, there is nothing we can do. She is stuck there until her years are up."
"There has to be something," Edward argued.
"Well, we may not be able to get her out, but we could always join her."
"Are you crazy?" Alice asked. "Letting Aro have access to us would be suicide. He would never let us go."
"Aro always lets them go. Most just choose to stay loyal to him." I countered. "If you have an agreement, he honors it. No matter how talented you are."
"I'll do it," Edward said.
"Is that so wise?" I asked. "I mean you can't even admit your feelings for the girl."
"It's different now. Her blood won't sing to me anymore."
"It does make more sense for him to go, Carlisle. She loves him." Esme commented.
I sighed, defeated. "Very well. Just don't be shocked if you get rejected, or are nowhere near Bella." I explained.
"It will be fine," Edward promised and rushed upstairs.
I sighed again, "I hope he knows what he's getting into."
Bella Swan
"You summoned me, Master?" I asked, bowing.
"Bella." Aro greeted warmly. "I would like you to meet our new member of the guard."
I looked up and sucked in a shocked breath. "Edward? What the hell are you doing here?"
Edward didn't answer, he just stared at me with wide eyes. Being a vampire came with some cool perks. I was able to run forever, stare at the stars and see further than I could with any telescope, I was stronger and I felt incredible. The only downside was the thirst. I was always thirsty. I could kind of control it now, but I still had issues. As I stared at Edward, I could see the light blonde highlights etched in his hair, his eyes were a golden brown and mesmerizing.
"Edward has decided to join my guard. It was to be closer to you." Aro explained when Edward still hadn't said anything.
"You joined for me?" I asked shocked. "I thought you hated me."
Edward shook his head and turned to look at Aro. "Can I have a few private minutes with her? We need to discuss some things."
"Sure. Why not." Aro conceded. "Return here in an hour. I have an assignment for you two."
"Yes, Master." We both answered. I lead Edward to my room. Once I closed my door, I rounded on him. "Spill. Now."
Instead of answering, he pressed his lips to mine. Fire exploded through my body as if his lips pressed against mine was burning me from the inside. I wasn't sure how long it was before he moved away. "You have no idea how long I wanted to do that."
"What?" I sputtered.
"Since that first day, I met you, Bella. I wanted to taste you."
"You want to taste me?" I asked aghast.
"It's hard to explain." Edward ran a hand through his hair, clearly frustrated. "I love you. I have loved you since I first met you."
My mouth dropped open in shock. "You.. love me?"
He nodded, and then his lips were on me again, and this time neither one of us held back. An hour later, we were laying on the bed, naked, content. "Wow," Edward commented. "That was amazing."
I laughed, "It was." I noticed the clock on the wall. "Shit, we need to hurry and get back." I jumped out of bed and got dressed in a hurry. Not waiting for Edward, I took off towards the hall. Hoping Aro would forgive us.
