I stopped writing as I had no idea how to make Samuel better, stronger, more useful. It came to me talking to a friend named Ben. I wanted to use canon things to make him better. This is but one idea...

Samuel has potential but as it is he is a huge burden on the team. He lacks Kagome's senses and power, Inuyasha's everything, Sango's and Miroku's experience and training... he needs more to be of value. I can round out the team, and prevent him from being OP... which was the issues in past stories.

One month and Two weeks before Jineji episode

Samuel woke up hours later, with Kaede treating his wounded shoulder, the smell of blood filling his nose. They were in a forested area, alone. "What happened... I... body aches?"

Kaede smiled at him. "We were attacked quite brutally by a demon that controls people via hair, Inuyasha saved us. He is going to grab Kagome from where she came from, and lead her here to fight the threat. You were wounded, your back and shoulder mostly. I would have lost you but your book seems to be adding life into you, but it cannot sustain it forever. See if you can heal yourself, if even slightly."

Samuel sat up, and nodded, grabbing his book where it was on his belly. He remembered his healing spell from when he patched up Kagome. "Chinsei to Kaifuku." And he almost fainted as more power burned into his wounds, which hissed and slowly sealed partially up. " I cannot heal myself entirely,... only part of the way. This is the best I can do for now." He sighed. "Kaede... I need training. Kagome is all raw power, and she can see what I cannot. Inuyasha is a brutally powerful force with durability, healing and claws and a nose. To be of service, I need more training, in combat and in my power. Do you have any suggestions?"

She nodded, to his shock. "There is a man, a Priest. He leads a school for those with Spiritual powers. He trained Tsubaki, a powerful rival of my sister, and is in fact the one that gave the Shikon Jewel to Kikyo to guard. He may not have access of magic, but all energy works in a similar way. He can show you that, how to heal with herbs and such, and even to fight with weapons. He can teach you meditation, focus and calm. You will learn about our world, and life and time. Under his care, you will excel, I am sure.

His Shrine is not far, actually, and once you recover I will lead you to there as ask him to help you. Even if you spend only a month there, you will become far more capable and skilled. Most Priestesses spend only six months there, some longer. He has trained countless people, I am sure, I know he will help guide you into greatness. So, what say you?"

Samuel smiled. " I look forward to working with him... I need to be better, or I will just be in the way. Healing is helpful, but if it puts me into a near coma every time I try I will be a hinderance. This is great news."

True to her word, the morning after Kagome and Inuyasha killed the Demonness Yura of the Hair ( Badass name that was) Samuel told his allies of his and Kaede's goal. They were oddly supportive.

"Anything to make this easier, Samuel... really, go, we can handle this until you come back." Kagome said.

Inuyasha sneered a bit. "It's better if you're less weak than you are now." Which Samuel took as a sign of care.

He and Kaede rode towards the hills, towards a compound that he felt radiating power. It was like dull waves of heat. Two priestess, young and brightly dressed, stopped them, armed with staves.

"Who goes there?" One said, dressed in red.

"Samuel and Kaede. I am a priestess of a local village, in the valley. Samuel on the other hand wishes to be a student, Is Master Naomi here?"

The girls shared a look. "He is sick, very sick... we are set to be his last pupils." The blue one said, looking said.

"But I will make an exception." the girls jumped, turning to face an exceedingly old man dressed in a joe complete with a tall black hat. "Kaede, I have of you. It is a pity i never got to teach you. Samuel, I will take you on if Kaede of all people, practically a local legend, asks me too. What is the strange aura I sense, it is vibrant but firmly powerful?"

The boy lifted his book. "It is spell book, and it is has allowed me access to magic. Tapping into life force energy. I am going to help gather the Shikon jewel fragments, but to do so I need more control over my powers. I need more skills, This... is not my world, or tie. I need help. I am lacking in the skills to survive. So please, I beg of you, help me."

The man smiled. "Come, sit by our fire and enjoy some tea. Tell me your story, and we will see about getting you the skills you need, my son."
