Stefan took Elena home and calmed her down. Once he was sure she was ok he left and went back to the house.
It was quiet. So Damon wasn't home. He walked into the living room. Lexi was sitting on the couch snuggled up to Lee she was holding something in her hand.
"I just don't know what to do. Showing this to Elena could really help her or really make everything worse."
"Show what to Elena?"
Lexi jumped and quickly hid whatever was in her hand. "Stefan! I didn't hear you come in. How is Elena?"
"Sleeping. What are hiding." Stefan said as he walked and stood in front of her.
Lexi inhaled and exhaled a deep breath. "After that man was hit by the car I saw something of his. " She took the phone from hiding and showed it to Stefan. "This may of been how he was contacting Isobel. If I give it to Elena maybe she can contact her birth mother. But it might not, I don't want to get her hopes up."
"So you don't know if you want to give it to her?"
"No. I wasn't even sure I was going to tell you about it. Stefan she's your girlfriend I'll let you decide what to do." She handed him the phone. "I'll support you whatever you decide."
Stefan took the phone and sighed. He looked to Lee. "If the roles were reversed would you give this to Lexi?"
"Yep."
"Just like that?"
"All I can do is offer it to her. Then it's up to her what to do with it. She could throw it away, she could step on it. She could burn it, or she could call it and see who she can reach. But I leave the choice up to her. She doesn't feel mad because I kept something from her. There is no pressure of what to do with it."
"Wow you make it sound so easy."
"It is. You love Elena and you want what's best for her. So just give her the phone and let her decide what to do with it."
Stefan sighed but nodded. "All right, you're right. I'll give it to her tomorrow. Thanks Guys."
Stefan took the phone and went upstairs. Lexi just sighed, hoping he had done the right thing.
The next morning Stefan woke up early went to Elena's house. He smiled when he walked into her room and she was still sleeping peacefully. He walked over to her bed and sat down by her side. He leaned down and stroked her hair as he placed a gentle kiss on the head.
She groaned sleepily but slowly opened her eyes. "Stefan, what's going on?"
"Thought you might want a nice wake up call."
"I have my alarm set, what time is it?"
Just then Elena's alarm blared. She groaned. Stefan chuckled and turned it off. "Time for you to get up Ms. Gilbert."
Elena smiled. "One more kiss."
Stefan leaned down and they shared a kiss on the lips.
They pulled away and Elena sat up. "I thought we were meeting at school. What are you doing here?"
Stefan sighed. "I have something for you. You can do whatever you want with it but I feel like you should have it."
"What is it?"
Stefan handed her the phone. "Stefan that's really sweet but I already have one."
Stefan chuckles. "No, it's...it belonged to the man from last night. I think this is how he was contacting Isobel. I want you to have it in case you want to call her. If you don't want to call her that's ok too. There is no pressure either way. I just wanted to give you that choice."
Elena stared at the phone. She didn't touch it for a second and then grabbed it and sighed. "Thank you."
Stefan kissed her head. "I'll be downstairs. Come down when you're ready and I'll take you to school."
Elena nodded and Stefan went downstairs
Elena sat on the bed in her room, her legs crossed as the cell phone sat on one knee and her cell phone sat on the other. She sighed and picked up the cell phone. She looked down at the cell phone and quickly put the phone down. She sighed again. She picked up the cell phone once more but quickly set it down again. Elena moved the phone from her lap. She stood up and started to pace.
"Why am I being such a baby about this? Just pick up the phone dial the number. You can do it. You're strong you can do this."
Elena took a deep breath and grabbed the cell phone from her bed. She selected the most recent number and hit send. Then she put it to her ear shaking as she heard the ringing on the other end.
"Was there a problem?"
Elena froze. That was her, the sound of her mother, more importantly the sound of her mother's voice alive. Elena gulped finally finding her voice "Is-Isobel?"
After that, all that was heard was a dial tone. Elena just sat there stiff as stone unsure of what to do now. Her birth mother was alive...but didn't want to see her or know her? Sighing she hid the phone is the same place as her journal. Then she climbed out of bed and went to get ready for her day. If her birth mother didn't want to know her, fine she'd forgot this whole thing...at least she'd try to.
She arrived downstairs with the same smiled she wore the first time she went back to school after her parents died. It said I'm smiling and happy on the outside. But inside I'm anything but.
"Ready to go?" she asked Stefan.
"Sure." Stefan didn't ask anything in case Elena didn't want Jenna to know.
Once they got in the car Stefan asked her what happen. Elena told him all about the phone call and what she decided to, or rather what she was thinking about doing. The rest of the car ride was quiet.
They arrived at school and they split up to go put their books away and get the ones they needed for their first class. Stefan met Elena over at hers. He got there just in time she see her sigh deeply as she closed her locker and then leaned against it.
"You ok?" he asked.
"Just thinking."
"About Isobel?"
"Isobel? Oh you mean my vampire birth mother, who's related to my vampire ancestor Katherine, who screwed over your vampire brother? Nah… I haven't thought about it at all."
Stefan chuckled at her sarcasm. "I'm sorry I brought it up."
Elena sighed once more. "it'd just be nice if we could get through one day without having to deal with any of it. No vampire mother or brother."
"No vampires at all?" Stefan asked with a fake pout.
"No vampire, but you. I just want to get us back to normal stuff like school and homework and here the thought: fun"
"Ooh, that sounds good to me, when do we start?"
Elena giggled and they shared a kiss before heading off to their classes.
In between classes they met up with Caroline who invited them to double date with her and Matt. Elena was hesitant but Stefan convinced her and they all agreed to meet at The Grill that night for dinner.
During free period Stefan called Lexi and told her about the plan and invited her along with them. She agreed to meet them all at The Grill. Stefan just really hoped this went well. Elena really needed a fun night out with friends. What could possibly go wrong?
