AN: Quick update just in case I'd be gone long :) Hope you like it!
TBBT's not mine :)
Penny practically inhaled her two mugs of coffee that morning. Going to work is hard when you feel like crap.
"What on earth is going on, Penny?" The director asked. Penny sighed inaudibly. "Nothing. Sorry." She apologized and mentally told herself to focus. Her assistant was watching her, looking sympathetic.
It has already been two days since Sheldon left, but Penny still couldn't focus. She thought about him by his Meemaw's side, and felt guiltier by the minute. She stayed in Sheldon's apartment the whole two days, thinking about telling her manager to shove the contract up her ass and going to Texas. She cooked (and burnt most of what she was cooking), cleaned (and broke down about three times whenever she remembered Sheldon's very impressive cleaning) and watched TV (Sheldon's favorite Sci-Fi shows) to keep herself from exploding. There was only one thing that she could not do: freaking act.
"Cut!" Penny sighed again as the director yelled. "Penny? A moment, please."
Great, now I'm in trouble. "Look, I know you got a lot on your plate right now, but you just can't suck at your job just because your heart's hurting." Penny flinched at her boss' words. "You're an actress. You should know how to keep it together and act like everything's fine." Penny nodded. "Take a five-minute break and clear your head. Go."
Penny nodded humbly. "Sorry." She went into the washroom and internally screamed. She wanted to go to Texas. She wanted to be with Sheldon. Hell, she even wanted to meet the rest of his family! If that's not commitment then I don't know what that is, she thought.
She unlocked her phone and stared at her wallpaper-a picture of Sheldon that she snapped without him knowing. "Man, do I hate you right now," she chuckled. "I am actually thinking about ditching work for you!"
"Penny's not coming?" Meemaw asked as soon as Sheldon entered the room. He has been there literally every day, and didn't care about the germs he could get from staying there. "No, Meemaw. She has work."
Meemaw frowned. "You say that as if you're pissed she got work," she replied.
"I am a tad upset," Sheldon replied. At Meemaw's questioning look, he continued. "She is supposed to be here with me! I believe that it is just right for girlfriends to be there for their boyfriends in times of crisis, and vice versa."
Meemaw sat up, albeit with a little difficulty. "Oh, Moonpie. Don't take it too hard," she chastised her grandson. "She has an obligation, a contract. She loves her job, and will do her best to keep it. And Penny's an independent little lady, Sheldon, you can't tell her what not to do."
"She's complicated," Sheldon mused. "Stubborn. Sometimes I could wish I could change that about her."
"Why? So she would do your bidding/" Meemaw didn't wait for his reply. "If she wasn't... as stubborn as you say she is, would you have fallen in love with her?"
Sheldon fell silent. He thought about all the fights he had had with Penny: the time she accidentally shot a paintball to his couch cushion, the time he hung her undergarments on a pole and she told his mother, the time she got three strikes but did not give a damn about it... Yes, she was extremely stubborn, but Meemaw had a point. If Penny wasn't as stubborn as she is, then she wouldn't be Penny.
"No..." Sheldon replied quietly. "See!" Meemaw exclaimed. "Penny's stubborn because she has responsibilities-this time, her career. But I do believe that she loves you very much, Moonpie."
"She calls me Moonpie even though I have told her many times that only you call me that," Sheldon muttered.
Meemaw rolled her eyes. "Oh, shush. You love it when she calls you that." She teased.
Sheldon smiled. He did love it when Penny called him Moonpie. It makes him feel loved, just like Meemaw does. "I really want you to meet her, Meemaw."
She patted his hand. "And I want to meet her too! But I trust your choices, Sheldon; if you fell in love with her, then she's probably the most beautiful, kindest, sweetest person in the world." She smiled.
"You okay?" The director asked as Penny returned two minutes into her break. "Yeah. Thanks for the break. I need it." To think about how I could get out of the state for about a week or so, Penny thought.
The director smiled. "Glad you feel better. Are you-" He was cut off by the beeping of Penny's phone. "Got a text. I have three minutes, don't I?" He nodded. "Go. Just don't be too long."
Hey Penny.
"Hi, sweetie! How's Meemaw?"
Still recovering from the heart attack. She'll be fine. She wants to meet you.
Penny sighed. "Me too, Sheldon. And I miss you a heck of a lot."
I miss you "a heck of a lot" too. Wish you could be here.
"Yeah, me too."
She looked up and saw the director walking towards her. "Everything okay? You gotta get back to work."
Penny bit her lip. She was an actress; she can lie. "Um, there's kind of something I need to tell you."
"You need to go to Texas?" He replied. "Not for your boyfriend's grandma, Penny. She isn't yours."
"Yeah... That's the something I need to tell you." Penny crossed her fingers, hoping her trick would work. "What is it?" He asked.
Here goes nothing. "I married Sheldon secretly last week. His grandma's kind of my grandma now, too."
Her assistant, who had overheard their conversation, almost jumped in glee. The director's eyebrows shot up so high Penny imagined them not going back down. "Guess I gotta go to Texas now, huh? Meemaw just suffered a heart attack..." Penny was making puppy eyes at him. Puppy eyes! She was never one to make puppy eyes.
"Damn," the director muttered under his breath, and Penny smirked in victory.
