"Penny!" Missy squealed as soon as she got to the hospital. The two women exchanged tight hugs and cheek kisses until Sheldon cleared his throat to get Penny's attention. "You got here," he said, surprised.
"'Course I got here. We have airplanes now, sweetie," Penny replied sarcastically. "I mean... how did you get out of work?" Sheldon asked.
Penny bit her lip, hoping Sheldon wouldn't see through her. "They gave me a free pass," she lied. She felt horrible for lying, but hey, you do these kinds of things for love, right?
Sheldon smiled, and Penny immediately knew that he believed her. He walked towards her and gave her a chaste peck on the lips, mindful of his sister. "Well in that case, welcome to Texas again, Penny," he grinned. "Meemaw would be delighted to meet you. Let me see if she's up," he said, then walked back to Meemaw's room, leaving Penny and Missy.
"You guys serious?" Missy asked. "Guess so," Penny replied. "Never knew Sheldon could be serious about anything other than science," Missy replied with a smile. "You know, I wouldn't mind having you as a sister-in-law..."
Sheldon's voice interrupted Missy. "She's up. Come with me, Penny." Sheldon led her to the room by the hand, and Missy followed. Penny's eyes widened in surprise when she saw Sheldon's mom and grandmother inside. "Hi," she greeted awkwardly.
"Hi, Penny!" Mary Cooper gestured for her to sit on the single chair in the room. "Sit, dear."
Sheldon stood beside her. "Penny, this is my Meemaw. Meemaw, this is my girlfriend, Penny." Penny smiled at the word "girlfriend." How much more serious can we be? She thought.
"Aren't you pretty," Meemaw replied. "I've seen you on TV a couple times, and I've heard a lot about you from my family here, but it's nice to finally meet you."
Penny blushed. "Thanks. Nice to finally meet you too! Sheldon talks about you a whole lot."
Meemaw smiled. "Sheldon, would you leave us ladies for a while?" Sheldon nodded and left. All three of them talked about the men in their lives for a while before Meemaw paused and looked at Penny. "Wait-last time I heard, you were stuck at work and couldn't fly out here. What happened?"
Oh no, Penny thought. No sense in lying to these women now... "Yeah... I... Kinda told my bosses that Sheldon and I are married."
"OH MY GOD!" Missy squealed. The two older women covered their mouths in disbelief. "Does Sheldon even know this?" Mary asked.
Penny shook her head. "That's the problem: he doesn't."
Meemaw grinned. "Oh! Get married, then! Sheldon doesn't like lying, dear."
"I know!" Penny replied. "That's not the only problem, though. The director knows, my manager knows, my publicist probably knows too... There were paparazzi in the airport asking me if I really had gotten married. If anyone from work finds out I lied, I'm going to be in huge trouble."
"Um..." Sheldon's voice interrupted them. "What's happening..?"
"Who told you to come in?" Missy asked. "It's... fine," Penny replied. "I told the director that we're married and if everyone finds out, I'm gonna be in trouble." Penny was talking so fast she almost ran out of breath.
To everyone's surprise, Sheldon remained calm. "Okay."
"Uh.. Didn't you understand, Sheldon? I lied."Penny replied.
Sheldon shrugged. "I'm going to marry you someday, anyway. Not in church, but... in another way." Mary glared at her son.
"Can't tell the paparazzi that, Shelly," Missy replied with a smirk. She wanted them to get married... immediately.
He nodded. "Well, Penny, if everyone thinks we had gotten married, why not make it official?"
Penny's jaw dropped. "Are you saying what I think you're saying...?"
"Marry me, Penny." Sheldon muttered.
The women gasped. "Yes!" Penny squealed and jumped into Sheldon's arms.
"You guys ought to get married as soon as possible," Mary said. "Either get married here or risk blowing your cover when you're back in California,"
Missy grinned. "24 hours. Give me 24 hours and I'll give you a wedding."
One day before the wedding
Sheldon and Penny were sitting in the kitchen of his house, sipping Diet Cokes. "It's really happening, huh." She smiled.
"Yeah," he replied. "I shouldn't... We shouldn't see each other before the wedding. That's the norm, right?"
Penny nodded. "Yup. I wonder how Missy did..."
Sheldon chuckled. "She'll do great. I may have underestimated her so many times before, but she is still my sister, so she has the same DNA. I trust her."
"Yeah, me too." Penny stood and kissed him goodnight. "I'll see you tomorrow, sweetie. Can't wait." She winked and went up to her room, where she found her two best friends sitting on the bed. "Oh my god!"
The morning of the wedding
"Penny! Wake up!" Amy and Bernadette shook Penny, who was still soundly asleep. They had a sleepover-slash-bachelorette party last night, and even though they slept at three in the morning, Amy and Bernadette were too excited for the wedding this afternoon. "Wake up!"
"What time is it?" Penny moaned. Bernadette pulled the blanket off her. "Time to get your ass up, lady! It's wedding day!"
"I don't even have a dress yet... and shoes..." Penny moaned even more. "It's so unfair. Boys don't have to get ready as long as girls."
Bernadette grumbled. 'Missy's coming, and it's 11 in the morning, so you gotta hop into the shower, eat lunch, brush your teeth, and get your hair and make-up done because the wedding is at four!"
Penny twitched at Bernadette's authoritative tone. "Okay! I'm getting up!"
Bernadette touched her swollen belly. "If I ever shout at you like that, baby, I am so, so, sorry." She laughed.
The morning of the wedding
Sheldon's room
"Tuxedo ready, shoes ready. Need anything else?" Howard asked Sheldon.
Sheldon smiled as he examined himself in the mirror. "Just for her to be my wife."
AN: Penny and Sheldon are getting married! I am proud (and a bit sad) to announce that we are nearing the end of the story. Hang in there, guys!
TBBT's not mine :)
