"Arthur... Arthur, you alive?" Arthur groaned as his head was pounding from something he could not tell. "Arthur, are you alive?" The voice asked again he distinctly recognized it as Lenny. "Shut up... I wanna die." Arthur mumbled.
"Arthur, this is serious. Get up." Another voice erged, Dutch. "Fine." Arthur gave in and slowly opened his eyes. His head was hurting less now.
There was darkness surrounding them, and Morgan was wet for some reason. Once his eyes adjusted, he saw that it was night and there were buildings around them. and the reason he was wet was because it was raining. He turned to Van der Linde. "Dutch, what the hell just happened, this ain't Horseshoe Overlook."I don't know, son." the leader told him. That was new, Arthur thought to himself. "Is everyone else here." He asked. "Yes, except Micah, because you hadn't broken him out of that strawberry jail yet."I was going to go for him in the morning." Arthur said.
Suddenly, a young voice yelled. "Uncle Arthur, you're okay!" Little Jack ran up to the older man and hugged him. Clearly, the young boy was afraid something had happened to Arthur. "He's been panicking for a while." John said as he approached the group with Abigail next to him.
"Jack, would you let go of Arthur." Abigail scolded her son. "Sorry, Mama." Jack apologized and let go of Arthur. "Abigail, he was scared about what happened to us and Arthur." John said. "Sorry, i'm just nervous." Abigail apologizes. "We are all a little shaken up." Hosea joined them with Uncle following behind.
"Is everyone awake and okay, Hosea." Dutch asked his longtime friend. "Yes, they are." He answered. "Good." Dutch replied. "What next, Dutch?" Hosea asked
Suddenly, an eerie voice spoke loudly throughout the place. "Remnants of Gotham, I have messages for you all." Everyone was startled by it. "What was that?" John asked. "I don't know." Arthur replied. "But look at that!" He pointed his finger at a nearby billboard, and the Van Der Linde gang followed suite. On it was a man, there was an orange liquid on his body, he wore some kind of worn duster coat, there were weird things sticking out of his jaw, his face was covered with rags and resembled a human skull, he looked to be blinded in one eye, he did not look human at all, he was huge on the screen. Scarecrow continued his message.
"To the vandals who stayed behind to pick the still-warm flesh from Gotham's bones: have your fun. You are under my protection. To the cowards quaking behind the police department's walls: you will not be spared. And to Batman: I have already won: i emptied your city with a vile of toxin and a few threatening words. That's how little the safety you provided was worth. And when the dawn comes. When Gotham lies in ruins and I turn my gaze to the world beyond, the legend of the Batman will be worth nothing at all. And to those who do not know me: I am the Scarecrow."
And with that, Scarecrow disappeared off the billboard. "Who the hell was that?! What the hell is Gotham?! And who the hell is BATMAN?!" John demanded. "Easy, John, he said his name was Scarecrow, I don't know what Gotham is, but I think it's a city, and I don't know who Batman is." Dutch reassured the younger man. "But whoever this Scarecrow is, he sounds like trouble. He must've chased everyone out of the city with a few words and some kind of toxin." Hosea spoke to Dutch.
"But I guess we will fight. There could be innocent lives here still. And besides, we shoot people who need shooting, save people who need saving, and feed em as need feeding." "What about us?" Bill asked. "Who knows what that Scarecrow can do, I do not wanna know what he uses that orange liquid on his body for or experience that toxin he spoke about."
Then the gang hear a yell right above them, and people laughing. "Well, looks like we got a saving to do." Javier said. "But how are you gonna get up there?" Pearson asked. Arthur saw a ladder leading up to a catwalk right next to the building. "I guess we'll use that ladder." "Alright, I'm going, Arthur, Javier with me." Dutch motioned as he made his way over to the item in question.
They started climbing. "You sure about this?" Arthur asked. "Yes." Dutch replied.
A few moments later, they were at the top and saw a door on the side of the building, Dutch walked over to it with Morgan and Escuella following him. "What's wrong? Are you afraid you're going to die?" A thug taunted. "Go to hell!" Someone snapped back at him. Dutch, Arthur, and Javier got up to the door. "Alright... Now!" Dutch said, and he kicked the metal door open, revealing a single room full of at least 8 thugs and one man tied to a chair.
"Who the hell are these losers?" A thug asked. "Who cares? They must be here to save the fireman, so shut up and hit them!" Another fella said, and the group began to attack. One guy got punched in the stomach by Arthur, knocking the wind out of him. And the gunslinger tackled him to the ground and punched him until he was out cold. Javier smashed another person's face into the wall, taking him down. A guy managed to punch Dutch in the face. He was repayed with getting kicked in his family jewels and head smashed on the ground.
Soon, all the henchmen were unconscious. "Please, don't leave me!" The hostage begged, and Arthur went to go untie him. "Boy, am I glad you showed up when you did, I was listening to them talk about how they were going to kill me for the last 20 minutes."You're alright now, son." Dutch approached and helped him up. "Have you found the others?" He asked. "Others?" Dutch asked. "Yeah, there's about 13 others, including the chief. Some kind of fireball thing slammed into our truck down there. Rioters dragged us out one by one, we were separated, taken to places around the city. Please, they're going to kill us."Don't worry, if we see them, we'll help them. You need some help, son?" Dutch said. "No, I just need a few minutes alone, then I'll head to GCPD. It's the tall blue building, over there." He pointed out a window, and they followed his gaze, and sure enough, there was the precinct. "Alright, just stay safe." Dutch said, and he, Javier, and Arthur walked back out the door.
"There they are." Jack said as Dutch and his friends climbed down the ladder, back onto the street." Hosea walked over to them. "How did it go?" "We saved the man, but there are about 13 other's, including a chief somewhere around Gotham, they were all oddly dressed, he said that there is a place called the GCPD, over there, he said something about some kind of fireball slamming into their... uh, what was it called? Truck I have no idea what it was, but these criminals are apparently everywhere, and they have those men hostage." Dutch said, and Hosea nodded at the information. "I say we go to that GCPD he spoke about." Uncle piped in.
"Then, if it is the safest place right now, let's go." Dutch said as he began leading the gang to GCPD, throughout the hell-hole that is Gotham City.
