CHAPTER FIVE

"Derek, Cora, what are you doing here?"

"My little pup is going to her first school dance, and you didn't think we'd at least come to see you off?" Derek grinned. "You look stunning."

"Isaac isn't gonna know what hit him," Cora winked.

"Oh, hello," Mrs. Martin said, coming into the foyer. "Who are you?"

"I'm Derek, this is my sister, Cora," Derek introduced. He looked to Magda fondly. "I'm Magda's guardian, and we just wanted to see her off before the dance."

"Oh how lovely," Mrs. Martin said. "Well welcome, and make yourselves comfortable. I believe the boys should be arriving shortly." She left for the kitchen.

"Isaac's actually already outside, waiting," Cora said.

"Wait, why is he so early? I told him we wouldn't be ready for a little bit longer," Magda said, brows furrowed.

"He wanted to borrow my car for tonight," Derek shrugged.

"And you're letting him?" Magda asked with a tone of surprise. He never let anyone drive his car. Not even Cora.

"He's growing on me," he shrugged again.

"Besides, I want to see his face when he sees you," Cora grinned. "You look drop-dead gorgeous. I have got to give Lydia props, she made you just shine tonight."

Magda blushed deeply, so unused to such compliments. "It isn't really anything special. I was the first one done, since I didn't want too much make-up or hairspray. Lydia and Alison are still getting ready, but the smell of hairspray was making me nauseous. Do I really look okay?"

"Do you guys have condoms, just to be safe?" Derek asked. Magda looked horrified as her blush deepened and Cora laughed and smacked her brother in the chest.

"I'm just saying," Derek said, completely serious. "I don't want any damn werepuppies in my loft."

"We're ready!" Lydia called as she and Alison descended down the stairs. Lydia wore a sparkly pink strapless dress complete with a tulle skirt while Alison wore a silver, sequined, cap-sleeve dress.

"Oh, hi Derek, Cora," Alison said.

"We don't mean to crash the party or anything," Cora told them. "Just wanted to see Magda off."

"I gotta give it to you, Lydia," Derek said. "You managed to take little pup here and actually make her look like a normal teenage girl."

"Wasn't too difficult," Lydia said, unsure of how to take a compliment from Derek Hale of all people. "She's a natural beauty."

"Thank you for helping me get ready guys," Magda told Lydia and Alison. "But I think Isaac's here to pick me up already."

"Ooh, yay!" Lydia said. "I can't wait to see his face when he sees you."

There was a knock on the door. Magda felt her pulse quicken. Lydia went to open it, grabbing and squeezing Magda's hand on the way.

Lydia opened the door wide so that Isaac got a full on look of Magda.

Magda heard Isaac's breath hitch and his heartbeat quicken slightly when he looked at her in her one-shoulder, form fitting, royal blue dress. Magda instinctively wanted to twirl a strand of hair nervously, but realized that she couldn't, as Lydia had curled and styled her hair into a loose side bun.

"Hi," Magda greeted, biting her lip.

"Hi," Isaac said, snapping out of his daze, and smiling at her. He walked towards her, ignoring Derek and Cora's eyes, as he placed a hand on Magda's hip, leaning in to kiss her cheek. "You look absolutely gorgeous," he whispered into her ear, sending shivers down Magda's spine.

"You clean up pretty nice yourself," Magda commented back. She couldn't deny that seeing Isaac in a crisp black suit with a shirt and tie perfectly matching her dress wasn't making her a little weak in the knees.

Isaac pulled away and offered her the crook of his arm. "My lady," he smiled. Magda could see Cora's huge grin out of the corner of her eye. He guided her towards the door.

"I'll see you guys later," she called over her shoulder as she followed Isaac.

The music was blaring through the speakers so loudly, Magda could feel the bass vibrating through the ground. She laughed as Isaac spun her around and pulled her close to him again, swaying to the beat. Magda was surprised at how easily they had blended into the crowd of dancing teenagers, as it was both their first times at a dance. But the music flowed through their bodies, though they were never too close, never too sexual. Regardless, they had fun.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Scott and Alison dancing goofily on the edge of the dance floor. Close by was Lydia and Stiles, Stiles dancing spastically, Lydia trying not to get hit, but also with the trace of a smile on her face.

The upbeat music slowly blended into a slower medley, a chance for couples to dance romantically, or friends to rest their feet.

Magda made a move to leave the dance floor, but Isaac pulled her to him.

"Hey, we've got to get the full dance experience right?" he smiled. Magda nodded as Isaac took one of her hands in his, placing his other on her hip. She gently placed her free hand on his shoulder as they swayed silently.

"You know," Magda said softly after a moment, "Everyone's going to think we're a couple now. Lydia was already asking all kinds of questions about us." Isaac just chuckled.

"I got the same thing from Scott," he told her. "Crazy, huh? I don't know why it's so hard for them to understand that we're just friends and nothing more."

Magda felt her heart drop. "Yeah," she echoed. "Just friends."

They danced for a little longer, Magda resting her head on Isaac's chest, willing herself not to cry. Suddenly there was a tap on her shoulder.

"Excuse me," a stocky dark-haired boy interrupted. "Do you mind if I cut in?"

Isaac looked to Magda, who gave a noncommittal shrug.

"Sure," Isaac said as he smiled at Magda and walked away. Magda awkwardly adjusted to the hold of the mystery boy, who after a few moments of thinking, she recognized as one of the lacrosse players.

"You've probably gotten this a lot tonight, but you are just absolutely beautiful," he told her. "I mean, you always are. I just never got the nerve to tell you in school because Lahey was always around."

"What made tonight different?" she asked him.

"The music, the lighting, your dress…" he said, "It was all too much to turn away from."

"You're really sweet," she told him with a smile.

"I was actually hoping we could maybe get off the dance floor for a bit and talk somewhere quiet?" he asked. Before she knew it, she found herself nodding and being led off the dance floor, into the hallway, and into an empty classroom.

Magda was about to tell him that she didn't feel comfortable when he pushed her against the wall and starting kissing her roughly.

Magda knew that she could easily push him off. That she should kick him where the sun don't shine, punch him in the face, and spit on him for the way he was treating her. She was a werewolf now. She was strong. She was confident. She didn't have to take this from anyone anymore.

In the back of her mind, she knew that.

But the moment that his lips were on hers, she froze. All her muscles tensed up, frozen. Flashbacks, memory after memory of her foster fathers, brothers, uncles doing the exact same thing rolled through her mind.

When his hand grabbed her thigh and started roaming up toward the hem of her dress, all she could do was shut her eyes against the tears. She tried pushing him away, but when his other hand grabbed her hair and forced the kiss deeper, all she could do was whimper. When he bit her lip and she tasted blood, all she could do was pray that someone would find her soon.

Just as the tears started to roll down her face, she felt him physically removed from her, and opened her eyes to see a wolfed-out Isaac standing over her attacker. He leaned down and punched him the face, and then again and again.

Suddenly there were a pair of arms around her and she looked up to see Lydia wiping her tears away for her, whispering something that wouldn't comprehend in her mind. Stiles stood next to Isaac, and after Isaac muttered something to Stiles, he kicked the figure on the ground in the ribs.

Everything was hazy and confusing to Magda, sheer terror still running through her veins. Stiles moved to put his hand on her shoulder in a comforting manner, but Magda found herself shirk back into Lydia's arms. He looked hurt, but backed away slowly.

Isaac took of his coat and gave it to Lydia to wrap around Magda's shoulders, Stiles giving his coat to Lydia for herself. Still unable to say a word, Magda let Lydia guide her to the car, and got in the backseat, while Isaac and Stiles sat up front. If there was any conversation, Magda tuned it out.

Magda's head was finally starting to clear as they took the elevator up to the Hale loft. She turned to look at Isaac, but he was staring straight ahead, his face unreadable.

"What the hell happened?" Derek asked as soon as he opened the door and saw Magda. He ushered the teens inside, and Cora was next to Magda and Lydia in an instant. Derek moved to touch her, but Stiles stopped him.

"Some asshole attacked her," Isaac said in a controlled, low voice. "When I noticed they weren't on the dance floor, I went to look for her, and I could smell the panic off her. He had her pinned against the wall… kissing her… touching her." Derek balled his fists. Hearing the words from Isaac's mouth caused more tears to fall on Magda's face.

"When I tried to touch her, she pulled away," Stiles added. "I don't think any guys should try getting too close right now." Derek looked conflicted for a moment before reluctantly taking a step back.

Cora went to fetch a wet washcloth for her lip. "This should heal soon," Cora said softly. Magda nodded silently, pressing it against her lip.

"Thank you guys, for your help," Derek told Stiles and Lydia, "But I think we've got it handled from here."

Lydia turned to Magda, pushing her hair out of her face. "Will you be alright with just Cora here? I can stay, if you need me to," the redhead offered.

"I'll be okay," Magda managed to croak out. Lydia squeezed Magda's hand before leaving with Stiles.

With a little help from Cora, Magda cleaned up and changed out of her dress and into pajamas. Magda had stayed in the shower for almost an hour, scrubbing every inch of skin that he had touched until it was raw and red. She brushed her teeth over and over again. Cora didn't ask any questions, and Magda was grateful. She followed Cora into their room, climbed into bed, pulled the covers up to her chest, and didn't say a word.

From her bed, she could hear Derek and Isaac talking in the living room.

"Did you get the bastard that did this to her?" Derek asked Isaac.

"Yeah," Isaac said, voice steady. "He's been on the team for years. I can't believe he'd do something like this."

"Piece of shit like him doesn't deserve to be on the team."

"Don't worry, after what I did to him, he won't be able to play the rest of the season," Isaac said. There was a pause, and Magda assumed Derek gave him a look. "Don't worry, I didn't seriously maim him. Just gave him a black eye, a broken nose… Maybe a few broken ribs. Though Stiles helped with that too."

"Wouldn't have thought Stiles had it in him," Derek commented.

"He was pissed, too," Isaac added. "Anyone would, after seeing Magda like that."

"She's tough," Derek said softly. "We'll help her get through this."

"She shouldn't have to go through this at all," Isaac said, his anger finally breaking through.

"There's nothing we can do for now, but be there for her," Derek said. "Try to get some rest, alright?" Magda heard him climb the makeshift ladder up to his bed.

Magda laid in silence for a while, unable to sleep. When she closed her eyes, all she could see was her attacker. After an hour, when she was sure Cora was deep asleep, she climbed out of bed and went towards Isaac's corner.

Isaac seemed to be asleep, but Magda gently crawled into bed with him, maintaining at least a foot's distance between them. She lay on her side so that she was facing Isaac. After a few moments, Isaac opened his eyes.

"Hi," Magda said meekly.

"Hi," Isaac said back.

"I couldn't sleep," she told him quietly.

"I didn't think you'd want to sleep in my bed tonight," Isaac confessed. "And I wouldn't have blamed you."

"I didn't think I'd want to either," Magda said. "But when I laid in my bed tonight, and I couldn't stop replaying what happened earlier… I just… I wanted to be here. With you."

Magda gingerly moved closer to Isaac, and he adjusted his position to fit her close to him. She leaned against his chest, and when Isaac went to rest his hand on her hip, she didn't flinch.

He pulled her tight for a quick hug and kissed the top of her forehead.

"I should've realized it earlier tonight," Magda said. "Even though I was afraid of Stiles, and even Derek a little bit, I was never afraid of you. You're my anchor, Isaac. Right now, you're the only place I feel safe."

"I'm sorry I didn't get there sooner," he told her.

"I'm just glad you got there when you did," she said honestly. "That was the first time anyone had come in to stop it. To save me."

"I wish there was something I could do to help," Isaac said.

Magda tilted her head up so she could look at him as she spoke. "When I close my eyes, I still see him. I brushed my teeth seven times, and I still taste him on my lips… in my mouth. I realized that every kiss I've ever had was tainted. Every kiss had been aggressive, drunken, painful." Her eyes started to tear up, but she kept her voice steady. She paused. She wanted to say more, but her lips trembled.

Understanding, Isaac leaned forward to kiss her gently. Magda felt him start to pull away, but she pulled him closer, continuing the kiss. When she pulled away, she rested her forehead against his, eyes closed.

"Thank you, Isaac. For showing me not all kisses are horrible."

Isaac watched and listened Magda slowly fall asleep against his chest. It wasn't until he was sure that Magda was peacefully asleep that he could close his eyes and rest.
