"I'm Doctor Daniel Jackson, this is Doctor Nicola Carpenter. We're both archaeologists, we're searching for artefacts." Nicola was already bored of Daniel's statement and she knew that it would not be long until their kidnapper did too. She wanted to know why her luck meant that whilst on a harmless Earth-based mission, she and Daniel happened to run into Honduran revolutionaries.
"And so you think it acceptable to steal from my country?" They both remained silent, but Nicola could not deny the panic rising within her. The last time she had been in a cell, a prisoner of someone else it had been to Osiris/Carter and had been the point of her death. Naively, they had both walked into their current situation believing that nothing could be as bad as what they faced on a daily basis. They were both wrong. "So this… artefact, it is important? Worth money?"
"It's invaluable," Daniel answered.
"Shut up, Daniel."
"Do not listen to your girlfriend. Speak, more. You believe your friends are coming for you and that this … box is valuable. You shall make me rich." The kidnapper stood up, left the small prison and nodded his head at one of his men. They closed the door and locked it shut.
"Now they really think they can bargain for money. You know our government won't pay," she hissed angrily.
"But they'll keep us alive until someone comes for us."
"You better pray that someone is coming for us." She knew that he was right. There were four invaluable members of the SGC, invaluable to the government and possibly world in general due to their talents, skills and knowledge. Luckily, Nicola had been kidnapped alongside one of those four.
"Have you still not figured the SGC out?" he demanded and she glared at him. "We're a family, Nicola, those people there care about all of us so much, someone will come. Why did you join us to rescue Sam?"
"No offence, but I wish I hadn't."
"You've never spoken about what happened to you there."
"Not to you, no, and I don't wish to. Especially right now." They remained in silence for an unknown length of time, it was easy to lose track, when the silence was split by cackles of laughter from outside. "What do you think they're so happy about?"
"I don't know. It's easier with Goa'uld's," Daniel whispered. "We know what they want and they really don't care for us, they just want us dead. These guys…"
"I'm more scared of these men than I ever am a Goa'uld or Jaffa army."
"You're a fellow warrior, an enemy combatant. Here, you're a…"
"Woman," Nicola finished for him. "I know." And the thought of what that meant terrified her more than the thought of Osiris killing her again.
SG – SG – SG
Entering Sam's lab, Jack approached her carefully as he knew full well that sometimes she would flinch at the shock and one day she was likely to cut off a finger in the process. He had also been wary around her ever since her outburst at General Hammond and discovering Janet's fears. Jack did not like the idea of her entering enemy territory without him when he was as concerned for Sam as he was. At least she would have Teal'c, Bra'tac and Jacob backing her up. Due to the circumstances, he had not had any opportunity to speak with Jacob, but there were no secrets between the two men anymore.
"Hey," he greeted with a smile when she finally looked up. Resisting the urge to pick up any of her doohickeys, he continued speaking instead. "I'm gonna go rescue Daniel and Carpenter."
She nodded, the pleasant smile on her face. "Good. If anyone can get them back, it's you."
"I know the CIA guy, too."
"Anything to worry about?"
"Nothing that you need to worry about. This mission you're going to go on…"
"I'll be fine, Jack."
"Hammond doesn't doubt your command ability, you know that, right?" Her mood prior to their earlier mission to obtain a Super Soldier, as they had been nicknamed, had vanished as soon as the mission started, Sam's professionalism shining through. "And I don't like the mission you're about to lead, but I have faith in you, too."
"Thank you, Jack."
"Let's just hope that Honduran Revolutionaries and Super Soldiers don't put up too big of a fight."
"Good luck."
"You, too. You know, though, I swear I'd made a promise to stay at home more."
"You're not leaving the planet."
"True. My flight leaves soon, I've got enough time to say hi to Daniella and then I have to leave."
"I have to work on this, sorry."
Nodding, he understood. "Dinner when we're both home?"
Grinning, she replied, "Yeah, sure, yabetcha."
