A/N: So I decided that in order to get some things off my plate, I'm gonna wrap this story up first. So I will mainly be focusing on this AU. If a burst of inspiration hits me with the other stories I have, they will be updated, but for the most part We Simply Are is gonna be my main focus for a few weeks. Forgive me please.

I hope you enjoy this chapter. Might be a little choppy... Also, I am beta less so all mistakes are mine and mine alone. Yup.

Helena's eyes were puffy; she could feel them as she stretched across the bed. The bed was empty. She opened her eyes quickly, too quickly as she felt Myka's presence had left the room. She looked around, now dizzy and tried to focus on her surroundings. Myka wasn't there. Not in the bed, not sitting in their favorite spot reading. Nowhere.

"Myka!" Helena was running down the stairs and into the kitchen where everyone stopped what they were doing to look at her.

"HG, what's wrong?" Claudia asked.

Leena's eyes widened. She could tell something was really really wrong. "Claudia can you and Steve go check around the warehouse, see if Myka's out there?"

Helena nodded at Leena who went the opposite way, further into the warehouse to check the music room and the study. Helena went straight to the center of the warehouse, the well. She looked around frantically hoping that Myka was in there, even though that meant she could have had water from the well. "Myka!? Please... where are you?" She saw a piece of paper under a stone and ran to it, tripping over herself along the way.

'Helena. In the short time I've been here with you all, I have fallen madly and deeply in love with everything about this crazy family. I have fallen in love with Leena's ability to know exactly what to do to soothe the aches of ones heart, the way Claudia can make someone feel so needed and useful, everyone has something I love about them. But my beautiful, wonderful Helena. You are light and wonder. I don't want to die. Not because I'm afraid to, but because I don't want you to watch me leave this world. I want to live, for you but also for me. I am selfish in wanting this so badly; to be with you forever and never worry about losing you. You want me to live my life, travel the world, fall in love. I can do all of that with you. However, you seem to want me to want it with someone else. I can't go home Helena, I can't stay here, and I can't promise that I'll ever really live if you're not with me. So I am now and till the day I die, a wanderer. I truly do feel that my place is with you; but I am going, without a drink from this immortal well. If I have to die Helena, I will die with my memories of you and I in the orchard, in the cave, in the woods. You will be in my heart always and I know that I will be in yours. I will love you, forever.

Only yours,

Myka Ophelia Bering'

Helena was sobbing, clutching the letter to her chest. She stood to make her way through the warehouse, determined to find the woman she loves so much. To tell her that she belonged with her and to give her everything that she deserved.

"Where are you going?" Mrs. Fredric was standing between Helena and the outside world.

"I'm going out to find Myka." The older woman didn't budge. "Move out of my way Irene."

"Helena. You can't go after her. Let her be found and taken home. This is how it was meant to be."

"She can't go home. She'll only run again. She belongs here with us... with... with me. I will not let this chance go by without a fight." A fire burned in Helena's deep gaze. She lit fires beneath her caretakers skin.

"Sweet girl. Fate. Myka Bering needs to do this. This is what was supposed to happen. If she's meant to be here, she will find her way back to us."

"But McPherson! What if he finds her first?" Helena wanted to sound angry, but only fear and frustration shook out of her.

At this the wise woman stopped and thought. "You take Pete with you."

"He'll only slow me down."

"Hey!" Pete walked into the room and could feel the tension building, but he was too offended to care. "I eat a lot, but I'm in pretty good shape. Take a look." He pulled his shirt off and started posing. Helena and Irene rolled their eyes.

"Come on you big oaf." Helena walked quickly past Irene and outside, Pete trailing behind her attempting to get his shirt back on.

"Where are we going?" Pete mumbled with a piece of bread in his mouth. Helena turned around stunned.

"Where did you even get that?" They didn't even walk past the kitchen. Needless to say, Helena was confused.

"My pocket."

Helena could barely understand the man, but she was so used to it that she could read from his expressions what he was trying to mumble out. "Let's just find Myka and get her back here before something horrible happens."

...

Myka was walking along, still crying as she followed memorized paths through the woods. She figured she would just visit the places Helena had taken her, finishing at the orchard and then heading toward the nearest town that wasn't Willow Tree. She wanted to say a proper goodbye but failed to do so as she snuck out before the sun rose. She hated leaving Helena that way, but if she waited until the woman woke up, she never would have left at all.

She heard voices and the crunching of leaves beneath heavy feet. "No." She ducked behind a large group of trees. About seven men surveyed the area, looking for her. She slowly backed away, never letting her eyes leave the search party, only to bump into a solid figure behind her. She turned and saw McPherson.

Myka tried to scream but before any sound could come out, James had a hand over her mouth and the other arm wrapped around her tight. "None of that now Ms. Bering." He walked back until they were a good distance from the group. Then turned with the young woman in his arms and left the area, heading to a place where he and Myka could talk.

James settled for a clearing by a river. "Now I will take my hand away and you're gonna tell me everything I want to know." He moved his hand.

"You will never find the warehouse! You're not meant to be there McPherson, you won't find it!"

"Now now. That is why I have you. You're going to take me there. I deserve to have that water, I should have been given a drink when I was a boy but they refused me!"

"They loved you! They wanted you to be happy and live your life. How can you be angry with them for that?"

"Look at me! I'm an old man my dear. I'm old and I am in pain every day. Walking is getting harder, I'm forgetting more and more as time passes."

"That's life. We'll all have to go through that."

"They won't!" McPherson was livid. He held onto so much anger throughout the years. "They'll live forever."

"Alone. They won't be able to have children of their own, get close to anyone who isn't like them. They'll have to lose people forever if they do. What kind of life is that?"

"I've already lost everything. I already am alone. The only one of those people who ever understood was Arthur."

"Arthur? There's no Arthur there."

"Hmmmm. They didn't tell you about him? Arthur Neilson?"

Myka knew the name. Artie was one of them?

"He was the one who actually considered allowing me a drink from the well. Treated me as a son. The woman... HG. She fought him on it because of her precious little gem. I hate her most of all."

"Christina... Don't talk about Helena or Christina. Not ever!" Myka's voice was venomous.

"Ah. You know about the girl then? That woman must have taken a real liking to you." James loosened his grip by accident but Myka felt it and twisted away from him, pushing him back in anger. She seperated herself from the tall man and ran toward the woods. Her legs were stronger now, her mind sharp as she skillfully avoided roots that stood lifted from the soil, and rocks that blocked the path. McPherson followed. He wasn't as quick but he was a tracker, a hunter. He kept Myka in his sights.

Myka was getting tired. She wanted to stumble into the warehouse only to have it disappear from McPherson's sights, but she wasn't that fortunate. He was catching up to her and she took her eyes off the path, tripping as she had the first time she walked through the woods. "Help!" She screamed. "Helena!"

Not too far away, Helena and Pete heard the cry for help. Helena went full speed, leaving Pete in the dust. She didn't want to scream Myka's name. If she was in trouble, Helena wanted to make sure whoever was with her didn't know she was coming.

"Please Helena!" Myka backed against a tree as McPherson approached her out of breath. Myka was just about ready to lose hope.

"Now..." The old man grunted as he was hit by a body and thrown to the ground.

"Helena?" Myka stood up, watching as McPherson gained enough momentum to roll Helena onto her back. His hands were on her throat. "No!" Myka watched in horror, moving toward the two on the ground.

"Myka... No." Helena struggled to get the words out. She could feel herself about ready to pass out. She needed Myka to be safe. She could see a shadow approaching and heard Pete's voice calling for Myka. "Myka..." She tried again. She fought desperately to get a big enough breath to scream, knowing that Myka would stay until she knew Helena was okay. "Run!"
